Sinuses The sinuses are cavities located in the bones of the face which serve to humidify and warm the air that you breathe and also absorb the force of facial impact by crashing like an accordion to protect the brain. There are four sets of sinuses on either side of the face and skull: • The frontal sinuses – chambers located in the forehead bone. • The maxillary sinuses – Behind the cheek bones • The ethmoid sinuses – between the eyes • The sphenoid sinuses – in the middle of the base of the skull, almost between the ears Each sinus cavity is connected to the nasal cavity and when they are healthy, the sinus lining is not swollen, the sinuses are empty of secretions and filled with air. In sinusitis, the sinus openings are obstructed, which leads to inflammation of the sinus lining, nasal congestion and drainage. We use the latest endoscopic instruments to precisely diagnose the problem and prescribe the latest medical therapies to manage the disease.
