Patient/Family-Centered Care and Therapy EACH PATIENT’S treatment program is individualized and modified as progress takes place. Therapists work with the patient for a minimum of three hours per day, which are spread throughout the day to allow for rest breaks. Patients who come to RWS may have conditions that are complex and require daily physician intervention to manage their medical stability. In addition to the residual effects of their stroke, they may need continued management of nutrition, diabetes, anemia, hemodialysis, and cardiac and respiratory conditions. A program of physical, occupational, and speech therapy may be initiated to increase endurance and function in self-care and mobility. At Roosevelt Warm Springs, we understand that strokes affect the entire family, not just the patient. We work to alleviate some of that stress by having an open visitation policy, so caregivers may choose to stay in the patient’s room overnight or visit at their convenience. We believe families and patients are an integral part of the team, and caregivers are encouraged to remain actively involved in the patient’s treatment plan. Patients and their families can be confident we will provide the highest-quality stroke care, centered on current scientific research, to ensure continued improvement in treatment and compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of stroke patients, including leadership and medication management.
RWS is a recipient of the Joint Commission Gold Seal, a clear sign we are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to our patients. This award recognizes our Stroke Program as one that maintains high standards of excellence in the areas of patient care, performance outcomes, and national safety criteria.
