LA SPEZIA (Italy) Product installed: ITALO Planning of the large Castelletti area in the former IP industrial settlement, was directly commissioned by the Municipality of La Spezia: a completely new area that includes the new stretch of the Aurelia highway which is considered as one of the main Italian roads. The new project allows a direct entrance to the city centre of La Spezia: an infrastructure project of a total investment of about 200 million Euros. The project includes a total of 100 ITALO 1 0F2H1 STU- M 4.7-4M with a power of 79W, a luminous flux of 7610lm and the standard 4000K colour temperature (white light). The devices were installed at a height of 8 meters with approximately 30 meters inter distance in the straight lines. The inster distance was slightly reduced close to junctions and roundabouts. The area is a high traffic populated road intersection consisting of straight lines, junctions and roundabouts. Therefore an appropriate lighting level was provided for each of the areas concerned. Based on the analysis of risks developed by the Municipality of La Spezia, which has identified a ME3a category (1.0cd/mq) for straight sections, AEC designed adequate installation geometries in order to achieve the ME3a category (1.0 cd / m²) for the straight lines and the CE2 category (20 lux) for the junctions and roundabouts. The new STU-M ITALO optic reached excellent results during the software lighting design and, above all, in the field after the devices installation’s had been completed.

There are more than 5,200 students and a global channel of 160.000 students. We are proud to have contributed to the functional public lighting of public and private institutions such as the one of Hertfordshire, an amazing university where 50 academic departments and 24 research centres are 100% active. We collaborated with Kingfisher lighting, our official Partner in UK, and decided to offer our key product: ITALO, a high performance luminaire, perfect for every type of installation. Thanks to its wide range of optics, it represents the perfect product for smart projects. In this specific case, the goal was to provide safer outdoor lighting, as it is a place with a high amount of traffic. Our mission was to guarantee safety and energy saving for a very important university that plays a key role in maintaining UK prosperity. The aim of the UK is to create a new generation of universities and to be 100% innovative, which is why it has chosen LED technology for the public lighting of this type of area. In fact, AEC was selected for this project as the public authorities wanted efficient and high quality lighting. We think that the buildings, as well as the surrounding areas, have to be original, new and adequate for students. AUCKLAND (New Zealand) Product installed: ITALO Auckland Transport is responsible for all of the region’s transport services (excluding state highways), from roads and footpaths, to cycling, parking and public transport. Auckland Transport, having studied the development of LED street lighting and learnt from the experience of major cities world-wide, are now embarking on a major deployment of LED luminaires across the city. This allows the cost-effective implementation of their white light policy with up to 50% energy saving and lower cost of ownership. Auckland Transport recognised the benefits of “white light” street lights for safety and comfort of all road users - motorists, cyclists and pedestrians back in 2003: - imparts natural appearance due to better colour rendition and generates a feeling of security and wellbeing; - makes city centres and places of interest appear more natural and attractive, and thereby attract more people; - research indicates that ‘white’ light may reduce an observer’s reaction time under normal street lighting conditions. However, the cost of installing metal halide luminaires (the only available white light technology at that time) was so high, their use was restricted to areas of highest road safety need and key pedestrian areas. The advent of high quality LED luminaires has reduced the “cost of ownership” to a level that now makes them the number one choice for all street lighting. LED luminaires will allow Auckland Transport to reduce their street lighting power consumption by up to 50%. The Authority has invited Techlight, AEC Illuminazione official partner in New Zealand, to present a new lighting scheme specifing ITALO for the city of Auckland. ITALO luminaires further reduce the cost of ownership by design: - their optical systems, developed by AEC Illuminazione’s R&D department, are built to cope with a wide range of installation geometries, giving a higher luminence to power ratio than many LED luminaires; - the quality of design and componentry gives ITALO a world-beating lifespan; - future-proof design to allow for networking and programming.

The system is composed by a column with a crossing signal and a Q QUADRO luminaire. The aim of the project was to give the area a high performing lighting close to pedestrian crossings. AEC installed the safety series in an important shopping area where hundreds for Q QUADRO luminaires had already been mounted. Considering the high number of pedestrians and vehicles passing by the entrance and exit area of the shopping district, the use of an appropriate lighting system close to pedestrian crossings has been a winning choice. The installation guarantees citizens a safer passage through the entire area.

The luminaires chosen respected this idea and were positioned to make the installation of the fittings easier for themselves. The project includes a mixed system of discharge and LED luminaires, in both cases the choice of an appropriate optic was crucial to highlight the structures without creating a uniform and flat effect. The discharge luminaires with spot optics were installed at the base of the arch structure in order to benefit from the cylindrical shape and to better manage the light beam. In addition to the supporting structures AEC has highlighted the outer edge of the road surface through the installation of the LED floodlights XMOD PRO mounted on a plate along the bridge border. Following the floodlights used for the project: DISCHARGE FLOODLIGHTS - N.6 floodlights Q5 PRO SPOT HQI-T D 250W 5200K; - N.4 floodlights Q5 PRO SPOT HQI-BT D 400W 5900K. MANCHESTER (UK) Product installed: ILO led In 2013, Manchester Airport was the third busiest airport in the United Kingdom in terms of passenger numbers and the 21st busiest airport in Europe. The Airport started construction on 28 November 1935 and opened completely on 25 June 1938. Terminal one was refurbished later in the years. After almost 30 years in consistent use, a bold transformation to dramatically improve the customer experience and environmental credentials of the landmark Terminal 1 multi storey car park has been unveiled. AEC, along with Kingfisher Lighting, has been invited to prepare an external lighting scheme for the entire development of the parking lot. Given the design brief and time line involved, the AEC and Kingfisher team presented a design proposal based on the ILOled utilising a combination of twin and triple mounted lighting points. The lighting scheme involved a combination of twin and triple mounted ILOled’s with a mounting height of 6m. To achieve the lighting specification of 20 lux average, AEC and the Kingfiher lighting team designed the ILOled 54 ST series. This specification utilises 54 LEDs with a total rated power of 68w and a lumen output of 4,853 lumens and provides a street lighting distribution. Compared with a conventional 70w light source this particular version offers energy savings of up to 16%. AEC, who have had previous projects in airport lighting, guaranteed the best solution for energy savings. ILOled met all the requirements of the customer in terms of design, lighting scheme and safety.

MILANO (Italy) Product installed: ILO led The Vodafone Village is the new environmentally friendly Italian headquarters of the company: 67,000mq of covered area. The project of the area was developed in order to guarantee: - high functional reliability and maintenance; - energy consumption reduction; - environmental impact reduction; - comfort workplace; - maximum integration of the building and the architecture to possible future changes in the functionality of the space; - LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) compatibility. As for the lighting of outdoor areas, it was decided to move from a solution with standard equipment to a LED solution, adopting ILOled with 200 mm brackets for street lighting and TABLED for the long arcades of the complex, in addition to high efficiency and high visual comfort. ILOled was chosen as the lighting for the parking area at the entrance of the offices, while TABLED is the innovative modular system of AEC that was placed in the covered outdoor areas near the entrances to the buildings and between areas of connection. The annual energy consummation of 49,900 kWh (in comparison with the 90,800 kWh with HID luminaires) was reduced of an additional 30% thanks to the use of a conveyed waves dimming system. This dimming option was integrated with the BMS of the building thus allowing a reduction of the luminous flux at minimal levels when the buildings are not occupied. This solution led to a 55,870kWh consumption reduction per year equal to a reduction of 33 CO2 tons (per year). In addition to this, thanks to AEC luminaires, the maintenance costs were further reduced when compared to the traditional HID solutions. The Milan Vodafone Village proves to be a 100% eco-sustainable complex with a low environmental impact and high level of energy efficiency.

HAMILTON (New Zealand) Product installed: TABLED The general extension of shopping hours around the world has contributed to a change in the life style of many people, shopping habits included. Shopping centres have become the privileged place where to spend one’s own free time all along the day especially on weekends. During late hours, leaving these places and approaching the parking areas can make the customer feel uncomfortable and most of all unsafe. This unpleasant sensation can even compromise the shopping experience of the consumer. AEC Illuminazione was approached by The Base Shopping Centre in Hemilton, New Zealand to improve the exterior lighting in the parking area. AEC Illuminazione chose TABLED to provide the Centre with a suitable lighting for the pathways from the exits to the car lots of the Centre. The product comprises a 9 LED module with a unique and minimal design. TABLED has guaranteed the pathways a high lighting level with a low energy consumption. As a result the customer feels safer and the shopping experience gets more pleasant. This way the human eye is able to adapt to the lower lighting levels in the parking area removing any possible “shock effect” during the transfer from one area to another.

PADOVA (Italy) Product installed: ILO led Padova has one of the most important and busy Italian railway stations. Thousands of visitors and commuters crowd the many platforms available daily. Approximately 18 million passengers get on and off the trains every year. The square in front of the station is a central hub for the traffic of the area. Local and suburban buses and taxis have their terminus here. In addition to this, the entrance of the station is located at the end of a pedestrian path leading to the city centre. The central square has undertaken an important renovation plan that has involved AEC. ILOled was installed in particular on bent columns, an original but functional choice for the area. Due to the high traffic of the square, safety was considered as top priority. Each column hosts up to 3 luminaires – a post top ILOled and two staggered ILOled for the lighting of the pavements and the waiting areas to buses and taxis. AEC was also invited to prepare a lighting scheme for the covered area at the entrance of the station. The company proposed a customized solution using wall-mounted TABLED BAR. TABLED BAR is a versatile and functional solution, available with up to 20 led modules in relation to the installation needs. In this project TABLED was used on a wall-mounted box with 3 downward modules equipped with phosphor optics and the 2 upward modules were equipped with spot optic for indirect lighting.
