CAMPO SPORTIVO N°2

Porto Torres, Campo Sportivo n°2, Sardegna (SS) Bando pubblico esplorativo per la riqualificazione e gestione degli impianti sportivi

The area taken into consideration for participation in the exploration call issued by the Municipality of Porto Torres is Campo n ° 2 located in Viale delle Vigne of Porto Torres, inside of the sports citadel. The sports facility in Via delle Vigne needs targeted interventions, useful for its improvement and enhancement. The proposed interventions for the improvement of the structure include the recovery of existing buil-

dings, the ordinary maintenance of electricity and water systems, the installation of a synthetic turf, the construction of new structures that favor activities and improve its efficiency, the planting of evergreen trees, the insertion of a refreshment point and finally the recovery of the grandstand.

The new conformation of the dressing room of the 11 camp provides the movement of the entrance door, “protected by a plasterboard wall to maintain privacy, and a general rearrangement of the spaces with greater interest for the section dedicated to toilets and showers . The new construction of the locker rooms for the 5-a-side football field, provide for the total construction of a reserved area for the preparation of athletes, toilets and showers. The restaurant area is built on a stable basis and includes a single work space, a pantry accessible only from the work area and a single toilet that can be used by everyone. Included in the structure is a small terrace where seats and tables can be placed to consume the products. The new structure that will be built is divided into two different areas, the first dedicated to sports facilities and a laundry room, while the second part for the inclusion of some offices for sports companies that will use the structure.

GREEN PRODUCTIVE INFRASTRUCTURES

Barcelona, Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat, Cataluña Observatoy of Urbanization, Barcelona

The research “Green productive infrastructures” is part of the global project “Changing our Global Infrastructure: An International Collaboration”, which brings together teams led by senior colleagues from over 80 universities worldwide. The commission pre-defined nine land systems under consideration in each local study based on examination of past geodesign studies:

1. Landscape, 2. Transport, 3. Water, 4. Energy infrastructure, 5. Agriculture and Forestry, 6. Industry and Distribution, 7. Housing, 8. Mixed-use Development, and 9. Institutional Uses. Have been established common spatial formats to enable the direct comparison of evaluation and impact model outputs. Participants have chosen nested project sites at scales adhering to a square format, 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 40, 80, and 160km on a side. The team of the Observatoy of Urbanization for the UAB chose the territory of the Baix Llobregat located in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, in the periurban area, at the “Comarc”a of Baix de Llobregat. It includes areas belonging to Natura 2000 (protected area) , the airport, the Baix de Llobregat Agricultural Park and the El Llobregat river. The study involves the analysis of the area from two different points of view and through which they will lead to a final cartographic production that shows the overall situation in terms of blue and green infrastructure.

The themes chosen were the following: Agriculture: The theme was chosen because within the metropolitan area of Barcelona it was found the presence of numerous areas with agricultural vocation that despite being rural areas, maintain a close contact with the urban context both by proximity and for relationships.

Green Infrastructure: The theme was chosen because within the area

under analysis there are protected areas, Parks with recognized values, Agricultural Parks and numerous areas of urban and periurban green that can be connected to each other by characteristics found.

Blue infrastructure: The topic was chosen because within the area un-

der analysis there is a hydrographic network currently being researched in the various Municipalities in order to improve the conditions through the application of new technologies related to the Blue Infrastructure

VORES DE PAISATGE

Noches de los Museos 2018, Fabra i Coats, Barcelona Ajuntamiento de Barcelona

The edges of the city have traditionally accommodated industrial activities. During the first decades of the 20th century, a city in frenzied expansion sprinkled its surrounding territory with factories like Fabra i Coats; working premises in a territory that was being ruthlessly urbanised. For a long time, these urban outskirts have remained isolated, unconnected, never really recognised, just like the work that was done inside the walls of the textile factories, where hands and machines wove the edges and borders with industrial precision. It is true that these landscape edges are no longer invisible but intertwined and woven with the city, thanks to various urban planning operations. The memory of this daily industrial life remains, although still frayed at the edges... threads of urban identity that hang, waiting for a common narrative to resew edge and city, memory and place, through the landscape. The Fabra i Coats Landscape Lab proposes Landscape Edges, an exhibition that, based on these connections, reflects on the neighbourhoods to the east of Barcelona, like Sant Andreu. More specifically, it reconstructs the evolution of the urban fabric in a section of landscape between Turó de la Peira and the Besòs river, along Passeig de Sant Eulàlia (now called Passeig Fabra i Puig). This

Passeig, planned in 1870, connected the council of the old town of Sant Andreu de Palomar with a promenade designed for the leisure pursuits of the locals, which reached all the way to the church of Santa Eulàlia, in the old neighbourhood of Vilapicina, from where a road began to Sant Iscle, in Collserola, leading to Horta. This journey back in time then takes us to 20 April 1897, when a royal decree from the regent Maria Cristina annexed six old towns of the area to Barcelona, including Sant Andreu de Palomar and Horta. As of this moment, with new developable land available, growth in line with the streets was organised along new ones, which meshed and wove together with each other. The city grew rapidly, pulling the threads of the existing landscape and casting new nets over the cultivated fields – the cheap houses of Bon Pastor and Can Peguera. Gradually, the great Barcelona took shape, connecting nets that trapped large industrial fish. It is these large fish – the workshops of La Maquinista Terrestre i Marítima, the railway workshops El Norte, the thread factory Fabra i Coats, Hispano-Suiza... –, right alongside our Passeig, still tangled in the mesh, that define the character of this part of Barcelona and, ironically, alsoweave its contemporary future.

OBSERVACIÓ ESPAIS PÚBLICS CIUTAT VELLA Rambla del Born, Barcelona, Catalunya Observatoy of Urbanization, Barcelona

The “Observació espais públics Ciutat Vella” project is a survey carried out by the Barcelona Observatoy of Urbanization with the aim of understanding the internal dynamics of the Ciutat Vella with regard to the public spaces present. The areas to be analyzed included many spaces typically frequented by the Catalan community and by tourists, such as: Plaça dels Àngels, Rambla del Raval, Plaça Reial, Les Rambles-Drassanes, Passeig del Born, Eix Carders-Allada Vermell, Plaça Poeta Boscà e Front marítim. In a practical sense, the work methodology consisted of making an on-site observation (of the selected area) with a minimum duration of twenty minutes, in which it was necessary to identify some characteristi-

cs of the area (see the diagram on the side). The next step involved the graphicization of observations with the data obtained, concerning the use of space, mobility, users, age and type of user (resident or tourist). The methodology includes observations in different time bands within the day, with different times (time slots: 4-12, 12-20 and 20-4), further divided into working days and weekends. The pilot case used is that of Passeig de Born, where you can see the methodology used and the results obtained on working days and weekends.

WORKSHOP “LIVE PARK RUBì BLUEHEALT PROJECT” Rubì, Fonte Can Moritz, Catalunya Bluehealth Project, Ayuntamiento de Rubì, Màster Landscape Intervention and Heritage Management

The project is born as part of the initiative Bluehealth Project and the Ayuntamiento de Rubi developed in conjunction with the Master Landscape Intervention and Heritage Management, which seeks to recover, activate and value the torrent of Can Matarí in Castellnou, recovered its surroundings and restore the Font Moritz, local heritage that dates from 1922, found in 2015 after some maintenance work in the area. It is very difficult, or rather, impossible, that all the old sources that made Rubí an ideal place to enjoy moments of relaxation with friends or family, can be restored. However, it would be necessary to fight for those who are in a state of degradation to be able to play their role as a pleasant

place to spend a good time. Difficult in this age of new technologies related to the world of leisure, but necessary if we want to preserve one of the elements that mark our identity. Life park proposes to recover the valley taking into a ccount their landscape and ordinary heritage building a space for recreation, healt and welfare, that reconnect to the community with its natural enviroment and its cultural traditions in the environment of the richness of water.

A PLANE FOR THE “SATELLITE” OF PORTO TORRES Porto Torres, Villaggio Satellite, Sardegna (SS) Supervisor: Prof.ssa Casu A.

The aim of this thesis work is to understand the spatial, social and economic dynamics that lead to urban regeneration in public residential quarters and specifically, addressing the case of the Porto Torres Satellite Village. The thesis work has produced a historical research concerning the origins of the “Satellite Village” and a cartographic production that explains in detail the situation regarding the properties of the houses, for the most part rented, and the properties of the land, granted in property law. Through the analysis carried out in the field and thanks to the study of the area it was possible to define some guidelines that they suggest and propose some project actions that allow the district under consideration

master thesis

to be able to grow at a social, economic and environmental level. The guidelines provide for various interventions aimed at improving accessibility, through the strengthening of the pedestrian area and internal mobility (mixed traffic), the removal of architectural barriers and the usability of shared spaces, the implementation of green spaces and recovery building through a sustainable design. All these initiatives will be evaluated and discussed in participatory processes that provide training and educational activities for the project.

PLANNING STRATEGY Structure of the Area Plane (1967)

Current structure

Actuators R.A.S. I.A.C.P. Gescal The Area Plane written by Fernando Clemente provided a very harmonious urban structure, but at the time of implementation was not respected.

Service of the district

Properties of housing

Within the Satellite Village there are several services that have been divided into five categories: commercial services, health services, catering services, tertiary-management services and recreational services.

The research examined shows how the houses in the district have a different origin from each other. Actuators have played a fundamental role in the structuring of the district, despite the presence of houses built by the Region and by private individuals.

Areas of relevance to residential property

Areas of relevance to the citizen

The areas of relevance within the district are defined in three distinct categories, as there are the spaces assigned to the A.R.E.A. institute, which still remain, the public areas of the municipal administration and those deriving from private buildings.

The areas of relevance, within it, are further subdivided, as it is possible to find internal courtyards enclosed and accessible only to residents, green spaces often not accessible and public areas built by the Municipality.

GUIDELINES Internal paths Following the demolition of the physical barriers that separated the courts, it is possible to establish new internal pedestrian routes that make the district more accessible and less closed on itself.

Internal accessibility and external accessibility 1. Improvement of the accessibility of the district, concerning the relationship with the neighboring districts (external accessibility); 2. Improvement of internal accessibility to the district. Shared public city and green spaces 1. Implementation of accessibility to green spaces; 2. Policies concerning the management and allocation of green areas of relevance through agreements between the Municipality of Porto Torres and the A.R.E.A.; 3. Regulation of the parking in the road axes and in the internal courts of the buildings.

Pedestrian network and internal mobility 1. Enhancement of the pedestrian network; 2. Improvement of internal neighborhood traffic (critical intersections) and development of a mixed-traffic mobility program.

Building recovery and sustainable design 1. Realization of a new synergy between the Municipality of Porto Torres and the regional agency for housing for the management of spaces within the district; 2. Research of funds to intervene structurally and physically on existing homes.

Active participation in the Satellite Village 1. Formation of a common table that includes the various stakeholders: Administration, A.R.E.A. Institute, residents, associations and committee; 2. Activation of collective activities such as workshops and conferences.

Urban gardens The diagrams below show the ideological advances that lead to the formation of an area to be dedicated to urban gardens.

LA PEDRERA

Alghero, Pietraia Neighborhood, Sardegna (SS) Prof.ssa Casu A., Prof.ssa Congiu T., Prof. Dettori M., Prof. Onni G.

The “La Pedrera project is carried out at Pietraia, a popular district of Alghero (SS). The peculiarity that makes this district an area of interest for the designers, is that which primarily concerns the mentality of the inhabitants, since they have the conviction of being a city independent of Alghero. Historically, the district of Pietraia, was part of the outskirts of Alghero and had several houses within it, roughly related to the processing of the land. The approach to the historic center takes place in the 60s, with the building boom, which favors the construction of new lots and thus incorporates the district within the compact city. The design idea focuses its intervention on the area that physically con-

climate change

alternative mobility

internal traffic

nects the district with the city center, thus functioning as a pivot between the two realities. The goal is to integrate the Pietraia district with targeted interventions, dedicated to the redevelopment of public spaces, to the enhancement of alternative mobility and better quality of life. The design idea is divided into two steps, the first that involves the development of a general strategy that helps us to define a master plan, and the second that will show us more in detail the proposed interventions.

DESIGN STRATEGY 1. Transversal trading axes

2. Urban and periurban green system The work area includes two types of spaces green, urban green, more than other used for decorative purpo-ses, and periurban green which forms one division between compact and peripheral areas.

The first project element analyzed is that concerning the main axes. The presence of two transverse axes, which they contain the activities commercial, allow define the same as a reference point in the planning strategy. existing services services implemented

3. Pedestrian network

4. Bicycle lane in/out neighborhood

The planning strategy includes reinforcing the areas dedicated to the pedestrian, such that, either possible to be active users of the area, without the need to use the cars. The pedestrian network identified, connects the business already present in the area of work.

5. Vehicle traffic network

The strengthening of the cycle network, already present in some parts of the neighborhood, is a strong point of the planning strate-gy. The net cycle path, in addition to being a physical-spatial con-nector, will support mobility al-ternative to the neighborhood and will be equipped with equipped rest areas. project network existing network equipper rest areas

6. New urbanization

In the evaluation of the vehicular viability they were made some small changes regar-ding the directions of travel in some stretches of the area. These changes they will make the traffic local more fluid. changed direction of travel critical intersections

Inside the area a housing part has been inserted, which provides for the design of some structures, be them for residential and commercial purposes. The structures will arise in an area of neighborhood connection, currently considered  an urban void.

THE COASTAL CITY

Hydrofrafic basin of Temo River, Sardegna (SS) Prof. Sanna G., Prof.ssa Serreli S., Prof. Tischer S.

The project takes as its design area the extremes Alghero and Bosa, the largest and most well-known urban center of the area, which are connected by the coastal road SP105, undoubtedly represent the most frequented and influential epicentres of this stretch of coast. The aim of the project is to create a new conception of the territory that goes beyond the two hubs, diverting part of the traffic flow inland through the SS292, which connects Alghero with the urban nucleus of Villanova Monteleone and the other centers, to the purpose of enhancing internal areas of the territory connected to each other by the territory-structure represented by the dominant environmental of the Temo.

The planning strategy includes actions aimed at improving the receptivity within the territory and thanks to these interventions, a final result, which aims at the rehabilitation of the now semi-abandoned area, in social and economic terms. The actions include redevelopment operations developed in the territory of Monteleone Rocca Doria that will provide better accessibility of the area, as regards roads and paths, and a higher quality of accommodation, with the intervention on historical garrisons and the inclusion of specific sports activities that re-evaluate the territory in a different area.

In any case, the expansion will be 10 square meters. PINNETTU The structure will have the possibility to expand and / or increase its volume but at a safe distance.

ACCESSIBILITY

ACCOMODATION

A fundamental element, considering the initial objective, is certainly the network of infrastructures, both primary and secondary, that allow access to the territory in a direct and easy way. According to the current situation, two interventions have been defined to improve accessibility, through the improvement of infrastructures, that is, the completion of a circumlacual road and the insertion of direct access to the lake.

The project idea is not to include new buildings within the lake landscape but to use and/or re-use the volumes already present in the area. Following a cartographic study and in the field, about twenty farms, active and productive, and several historical buildings classified according to environmental and infrastructural criteria were identified (see abacus to the side).

SPORTS ACTIVITIES

PROMOTION AND TRAINING

The morphology and the landscape of the Promontory of Monteleone Rocca Doria suggest in itself many sporting activities to be implemented in this territory, such as, for example, cycle paths, equestrian routes, maritime activities related to the use of small boats and divers, or activities considered extreme as climbing in the spectacular former Quarry of the Promontorio or the hang glider (see photo on the side).

A further action, essential for the success of the project proposal, is that which provides for an adequate promotion of the territory, and an equally appropriate training of personnel who will undertake this path concerning the territorial receptivity. The training will be implemented through the support of new technologies and through collaboration between the entities involved.

OCCUPATION OF PUCLIC SPACES: THE CASE OF THE C.S.O.A. PANGEA

Porto Torres, ex Bocciodromo, Sardegna (SS) Prof. Cecchini A., Dott. Cannaos C., Dott. Onni G.

The study carried out in this thesis analyzes the phenomenon concerning the occupation of buildings and public spaces by the Social Centers. These experiences are important from an urban point of view because the occupants make a requalification of the acquired space, usually abandoned and in conditions of degradation, and an effective urban and social revitalization in the neighborhoods they belong to. In the survey carried out, through the use of the case studies, the possibilities and

characteristics that an occupation must possess in order to be stable over time, or even regularized, will be evaluated and cataloged. The specific case of C.S.O.A. Pangea of Porto Torres and its characteristics have been evaluated, through a fieldwork, in relation to its stabilization and a possible future regularization.

FIELDANALYSIS RESULTS 1. Questionnaires The study carried out on the occupation of public spaces consists of a constant analysis in the field. The initiatives were multiple and different, but allowed a thorough knowledge of the vicissitudes and motivations that led to employment and at the same time a general knowledge of the collective initiatives within the building.

The field study involved participation in collective events and meetings, the structuring of a questionnaire * and constant monitoring of the structure. The most significant data for the research are derived from the questionnaires, carried out both within the collective and outside the building. Below we will see some of the results obtained.

The neighborhood of origin (2) is a given important because it makes us understand how the Collective was formed thanks to a common thought by the boys and not as a result of previous friendship. The data concerning the level of education (3) and work (4) help us to understand the general situation, with many occupants having difficulties in having a job, perhaps also on the basis of their training.

LOCALIZATION AND STRUCTURE OF THE SOCIAL CENTER The structure of the ex Bocciodromo is located near the sports citadel, in a suburban area on the edge of the city. The peculiarity that makes the space important in social terms is its positiovn adjacent to the two popular neighborhoods of the city.

From the ex Bocciodromo to a busy and self-managed building

The building occupied by the Collective Pangea was originally a sports facility not used by the community and in a state of neglect. Following its takeover, the building was converted from a sports center to a social center, with repair and modernization work carried out by the occupants themselves. The sports structure provided two environments, that is, an area dedicated to the sport of bowls (1) and one used as a dressing room (2). The socio-cultural activities envisaged by the Collective required different spaces from those that the structure possessed and the work carried out fragmented the sports space into four distinct environments, one dedicated to refreshment and toilets (3), a common space for events ( 4), a stage (5) and a back-stage (6) currently unusable and not usable. Occupations of disused and abandoned buildings are defined as urban and social redevelopment works, as they return to the society a new space.

ground floor plan

Thanks to the activities of the Collective, a project proposal was developed to make the structure a totally usable space. The project idea involves two different interventions, the first concerns the recovery of the area behind the stage, with the inclusion of two different environments to perform socio-cultural activities, and the second provides the ability to install a mezzanine in the area behind the stage with the aim of expanding the available space in the structure.

IMAGINE...YOU CAN!

Alghero, ex Cotonificio, Sardegna (SS) Prof. Cecchini A.

The course of “Plan and Project” is structured on the “city-university” relationship in the city of Alghero. The project involves the recovery of various abandoned structures and the organization of the current offices available to the University. The work is developed in two different phases, which foresee a first part carried out in a group and a second part addressed individually. The

urban redevelopment

group work is structured in such a way that the structures examined are connected to each other by a cycle path that will have to play the role of “connector” and the study of services available to the city. The single project focuses on the former Cotonificio di Alghero, which, given the strong presence of the city council of Sant’Agostino, will be managed by the University and by the same committee.

MASTERPLAN

The general objective of the project is to strengthen the network city-university through the reuse of some buildings in disuse and abandoned. The first design phase was dedicated to the observation and analysis of general and cultural services within the city to be able to start imagining one network between them. The definition of the “network” passes physically through the extension of a bike path, a lot used in the city by residents and students. Its structuring provides two different types intervention, that is, a main path that creeps into more ways busy and one secondary course dedicated to the streets less used.

Stages of evolution of the cycle path

existing track expansion track 1 Road signs and security Signals will be installed to inform drivers of the cycle countermove on crossings, pedestrian crossings and access lanes to residential areas.

In addition, the visibility of the cycle path will be improved, through the use of different colors / materials, and in some cases through the installation of physical separation devices.

New rest areas

Park policiest

The project includes the inclusion of two new rest areas for users of the cycle path.

The car parks must be arranged on the axis of the road. 45 ° or 60 ° parking is not allowed.

Elimination of parking at street corners with consequent widening of sidewalks.

As regards the structure of the former cotton mill, the aim is to restore this space to the services of the Catalan community, as it is currently in a state of neglect and degradation. Within the city-university network, the structure examined will provide useful spaces both to the university community and to the citizens of Alghero themselves, as the management between the Department of Architecture in Alghero and the Sant’Agostino Committee would be shared, much active on the territory. The former cotton mill would thus become an active space of the Department of Architecture, as the huge spaces inside would be set up to carry out laboratory activities, fundamental in this discipline, thanks to the structuring of a large open space. At the same time, the district of Sant’Agostino, will have a public space to use, given the green area outside the building and a part of the same that will be managed by the District Committee. The goal of this project is to create new opportunities for socialization and interaction between the two communities that will be hosted within it.

Subdivision of spaces ex-cotonificio Public green 1130 m2 of public green, with seats spread throughout the courtyard area, parking available for those who use the bike path with its bike, shade under the trees, internal path that contains a large green space that can be used by children to play. This creates a public space for the whole district and for Alghero.

Open Space Approximately 1300 m2 available to the Department of Architecture, especially used as spaces to work during the workshops. Given the size of the area, it will be possible to create dividing areas with panels, in order to have areas reserved for certain work situations.

Offices This area will be used for the management of the entire building, so given the partnership (AAA and the district committee of Sant’Agostino) will see the presence of both personnel.

Committee Room Sant’Agostino Given the lack of a real office for the committee (currently guests in the premises of the parish of the SS Nome di Gesù) this part of the stability will be granted to the Committee for meetings and as a meeting point, given the lack of real spaces public in the neighborhood.

Design perspective

MANAGEMENT

The position of the former cotton mill favors the integration and interaction between the realities present in the neighborhood, such as the school facilities located near it. The Department of Architecture, in fact, will provide the spaces that will be granted in management, to carry out recreational activities led by educators, to provide a service related to after school. These practices will be carried out on pre-established days, as they will not have to be superimposed on the laboratory activities of the students, who need a lot of space and organized environments in order to work at their best. In this interaction situation, the Neighborhood Committee will have a fundamental role, which will keep the structure open to interested users, together with the outdoor area full of green spaces and shadow spots.

A PARK FOR EVERYONE

Quartu S.Elena, Molentargius Park, Sardegna (SS) Prof. Arnal I.P., Prof. Faiferri M.

The course of “Project and Environment is held in the hinterland of Cagliari and specifically within the Municipality of Quartu Sant’Elena. The design area is the suggestive Park of Molentargius, enclosed between the Pond of Molentargius and the Saline of Quartu, near the Poetto beach. Currently the park is not a centrality for the citizens of the neighboring municipalities, because its great environmental potential is not appreciated and used. The environmental system formed by the Pond of Molentargius, the Molentargius Park, the Saline of Quartu and the Poetto beach is surrounded by vast built-up areas (hinterland of Cagliari). In our analysis we place the Molentargius Park at the center of both the environmental system and the built environment, above all for its central position. The goal is to make the park usable and appreciated by everyone, to make it an area of interest but above all it has its function within the community.

MOLENTARGIUS PARK - QUARTU SANT’ELENA The project name is "A Park For Everyone" because the goal is to offer a space totally usable to its visitors. Inside the park are preserved existing homes (orange) that are almost isolated from the dense trees, used to help more to define the green spaces available to the user. The Molentargius Park, for the purposes of the project, presents several innovative activities, such as Pet-Therapy, a therapy that integrates, strengthens and assists traditional therapies and can be used on patients with different pathologies with goals of behavioral improvement, physical, cognitive, psychosocial and psychological-emotional.

Given the delicacy of the therapy, a defined space has been granted, with a structure inside where you can admit the patients who undergo treatment. The quality designated of the Park, that is, its total usability, we can note also in the different types of sports facilities present, such as free climbing, parkour, bird-watching, bowling fields and various sports fields, connected through cycle-pedestrian paths wide and safe.
