Ben Sollee WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 6PM Doors | 7PM Concert

Garage Cuban Band WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 11 6PM Doors | 7PM Concert

Cellist. Composer. Storyteller. Sollee’s music is difficult to pin down. Following a performance at the Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series, the New York Times remarked how Sollee’s “…meticulous, fluent arrangements continually morphed… Appalachian mountain music gave way to the blues, and one song was appended with a fragment from a Bach cello suite, beautifully played.”

Anchored on a mix of Cuban folk and jazz styles, the Garage Cuban Band celebrates the rhythmic patterns and styles from an assortment of cultures improvised within a jazz band setting. Guitarist Bill Carson, bassist Jonathan Gray, keyboardist Nathan Koci, and drummers Jack Burg and Ron Wiltrout perform their interpretation of street-style Cuban music—a perfect complement to the Pan American Modernism exhibition that will be on view at the Gibbes.
