02 VAUXHALL GARDEN SPINE URBAN DESIGN - INFRASTRUCUTRE REVITALIZATION LONDON, UK Group Research, Individual design Advisor: Simon Atkinson Date: 010/2020-12/2020

Vauxhall is the main entrance to Lambeth Bourgh in south London, with a chaotic transportation system and human unfriendly open spaces, separated from old neighborhoods and historical heritages. Recently, a cluster of skyscrapers along the London Overground railway not only reinforces the boundary of the viaduct, but also prevents the community from entering this non-human-scale space and approaching the Thames riverbank. The proposal first transforms the public infrastructure into a new social, cultural and healthy living center to redefine the gateway area, while also serving as a medium to soften and bridge the huge gap between new development projects and traditional communities. Create a continuous and shared 3D platform that allows people to cross the border or introduce them to a new journey in the city center. Finally, the garden spine activates the frontages and penetrates into the surrounding neighborhoods.

03 BREAK THE CUBE LANDSCAPE DESIGN & CIVIC PARK Shanghai, China Individual Work Advisor: Qinhe Qian Date: 9/2018-11/2018

As the main force under the expansion of China's metropolis, white-collar workers are rushing around at work, spending a lot of time in monotonous building boxes, bearing all aspects of mental stress and suffering physiological subhealth. Urban open space is the place where they are in desperate demand. They need to release pressure on this open space to seek a healthier modern urban life. The thirst for nature dominates the concept of this design, trying to break the rigid fold line with smooth curves. The overall reconstruction of the natural landscape will bring the diverse, fresh and lively senses to the office workers.

04 URBAN ACUPUNCTURE URBAN DESIGN - STREET INVESTIGATE MONTERREY, MEXICO Group Research, Individual design Advisor: Dean Almy Gehl Associates:Ghigo Di Tomassi, John Bela Lake | Flato: Justin Garrison Date: 02/2020-05/2020

The Distrito Purisima-Alameda (DPA) in Monterrey, Mexico, a historic district developed soon after the city’s founding, experienced progressive depopulation and neglect as the metropolis underwent an intense process of suburbanization and expanded its sprawling borders outwards. Recent years, new developers are trying to build high-density towers to attract crowds, but violent development that lacks social equity considerations will only continue to burden the city. This project guided by people-first design will be started from the human scale and engaged in local public life. It will satisfy the physical space of local people ’s daily life while revive unique characteristics and spiritual culture of the district, and gradually activate and regenerate this area with the low-tech, low-cost, low-impact interventions of the urban acupuncture. Eventually realize social justice and equity, diversified functions and public safety, environmental restoration and sustainable development of this vibrant and livable world-class district.

PHASE 1: Introduce new community space by transforming underutilized parcels to improve the coverage of public spaces

PHASE 2: intervene in intersections with higher values and the special yellow boundary to create multi-functional anchors.

PHASE 3: improve other potential anchors and grow the

28

Before - Disruption

Distruptions at Cinco de Mayo Street shaped by dead spaces of one-way street lead to terrible traffic and a big challenge for pedestrian safe. The building facades are ruined, making it difficult for neighbors to stay.

Disruption - After

Widen the sidewalk space, add new bike lanes, and reprogram parking lots for taco vendors, which will improve the identity and safety of this unique disruption moment.

Communities enjoy their daily life, chat at street corners, and escape from the busyness of the city

29

Before - Intersection

The street is bustling with visitors, shoppers, and workers. Buses and cars fly by every so often. Exhaust emissions and noise pollutions keep people away from the street. The most dangerous intersection in DPA.

Intersection - After

Set up bus lanes, green media belts, reduce car lanes, and provide slowdown paving for people to walk through the most prosperous streets to reach the Alameda Plaza more safely and calmly.

Walkble intersection bring more people to visit Alameda Plaza and stimulate street econamies

05 WEAVING INTERBAY URBAN DESIGN - BLOCK TYPOLOGY SEATTLE,USA Group Work anlysis, model, plan, render Advisor: Dean Almy Date: 09/2019-12/2019

Interbay is in urgent demand of a transformation from industrial to adapt to the growth of the city of Seattle. By regarding the site, to take a divided, and in many ways uni-dimensional industrial space, and hybridize it by adding a variety of housing, retail, greenspace, all while expanding the industrial footprint of the area. we intended to create both more livable space and provide more connecting opportunities around the site. Being conscious of the sites history and where it might go in the future, we have created a water and landscape driven system that integrates phytoremediation and the movement of water with the intent to bring ecosystem services to the front of mind.

06 REKINDLE THE CHIMNEY URBAN DESIGN - POSTINDUSTRY RENOVATION JINGDEZHEN, CHINA Individual Work Advisor: Mengyuan Xu Date: 02/2018-06/2019 The Excellent Graduation Design of HZAU, Top 5%

This project is located in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, which is the millennium porcelain capital, but industrial reforming resulted to economic depression and population loss. I choose the urban wasteland of an old porcelain factory, where used to be the most famous place, and the biggest procelain company over the country. Recharging the place to be an new culture hub for people to celebrate local events, memory history, and enjoy new life. This design model also can be apply to other post-industrial sites, to strenghthen the relationship between new urban development, also interrelate with green infrastructures in large scale.

07 REDEFINE SAIGON RIVER BANK LANDSCAPE DESIGN - SUSTAINABLE PLANNING HO CHI MINH , VIETNAM Individual Work Advisor: Hong Li Date: 11/2017-04/2018

While we were doing this design, we focused on a new landscape type of inhabitable landscape. The site is located on the riverbank of Ho Chi Minh City. There are some places that are not suitable for human survival, owing to severe flooding issue. Meanwhile, government doesn’t have enough money for equal development in the city, many of the poor groups turned out to have to live in the urban fringe area. The poor groups directly be influenced when the flood occurs in the city. To reduce the vicious circle caused by this gap between rich and poor, we choose to use the advantage of local living environment to improve the water condition and people’s life.
