From Italy to Shanghai, to the world: sharing the same goals Italian glass technology is a value whose results deserve to be amplified. Because putting together know-how expands the opportunities for new successes
A
ll aspects of business and working life, at every level, are inextricably linked to an ability to interest, cultivate and strengthen relations. And behind all these relations you have communication,
whether verbal or non-verbal. Communicating basically means “putting together”: a thought, idea, project or goal. This is where the value of sharing comes from: in other words, placing your knowledge at the disposal of others so that it can reach higher targets by allowing more eyes, more minds to focus on the same goal. Ours is the age of sharing: global contemporary socializing, information and communication survive thanks to, and through this. And from this they are implemented, by expanding themselves, amplifying the results. This is exactly what the new issue of Glass in IT style aims to leverage. Because through our pages and social networks, the business and working life and relations (of human beings too) of the companies that we represent can be maximized and their potential taken beyond geographical borders. It’s time for China Glass, one of the topmost international exhibitions for the glass trade. This means it’s time to share the heart of Italian glass technology: from Italy to Shanghai, via the rest of the world. Happy reading. Chiara Marseglia

hina Glass is the next international calendar event - and the first in 2016 - for the Gimav group stand. Despite the current climate of economic instability in China, the event is expanding and confirms its role as one of the leading fairs for the glass industry. What tools can be leveraged to increase the visibility of our members? “Our aim - explains Laura Biason, director of the Association of Italian manufacturers of machinery, accessories and special products for glass processing - is to take full advantage of long-standing relationships with our local partners and with the CHINESE CERAMIC SOCIETY, organizers of the event”. This year the international Chinese exhibition dedicated to the world of glass is being held in SHANGHAI. Compared to the one in Beijing, it is “the edition that historically has been one of the MOST GRATIFYING for our member companies - continues Biason - We have confirmed reservations for an exhibit area of more than

9 1,000 square meters: further evidence of how important this event and this market are and the need to maintain a foothold here with close monitoring and great interest. And, obviously, Gimav is here, alongside its members”. The 27th edition of China Glass will take place April 1114, 2016 at the New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) in Shanghai. The number of Italian companies participating is consistent with that of previous China Glass shows, which are held in Beijing in the odd-numbered years. In fact, again this year, about 30 companies will represent Italian-made technology as part of the group stand spearheaded by Gimav. “The business experience of our members in the People’s Republic - adds Biason - clearly shows that in recent years even the relationships with Chinese buyers have changed markedly: buyers are increasingly inclined to VALUE PRODUCTION QUALITY and to appreciate the technological know-how that sets our country apart”. So, China appears determined to radically modify its approach to markets, no longer focusing exclusively on quantity and mass production, but rather on the “quality” resource and the accumulation of skills. “And, even if there is an air of uncertainty hanging over the Chinese economy at this time, the fact remains that we are still talking about the number two global economy, whose potential - concludes the director - is huge”.

17 INTERVIEW WITH DAVIDE CIGNA, SALES MANAGER OF BOTTERO SPA
The importance of the international appointment of China Glass 2016 “China Glass is once more bound to be the leading expo for the Asian market in 2016 and beyond. However, the macroeconomic situation in Asia has changed significantly in the last 24 months, posing new and urgent challenges for the glass sector as well as others. The increase in labor costs, need to improve finished product quality, and the recent depreciation of Chinese currency are accelerating the Asian market shift in demand towards machines and technological solutions with very high levels of automation, as well as performance and productivity requirements that are increasingly similar to those of the Western world. Bottero, which has always been an Asian market leader, interprets and anticipates this need by showcasing at China Glass machines that combine productivity with automation and quality. In particular, the 343 EVO float glass cutting table, equipped with low-e glass removal and laser marking systems, is a true and proper automated system for cutting and “tracing” the glass for all subsequent machining
operations at the plant. The ability to identify and track the glass from the first operation (cutting) until it is shipped to the customer is an important challenge for the glass sector, as it significantly reduces costs and increases productivity. We at Bottero believe that future innovation means improving the customers’ production flow and reduce material recovery costs, without foregoing the quality of Bottero. Our showcase will also include a laminated glass cutting table, to meet the increasing demand for this type of work in South-Eastern Asia, and a work center from our newly revamped 2016 product line”.
High-Tech at China Glass for a quickly evolving market
N. 37 APRIL 2016
FOCUS ON CHINA GLASS 2016 particular, has strongly influenced the type of products offered to Asian customers. In the last few years, demand has constantly increased for highly automated production lines and cutting-edge solutions apt to offset rising labor costs and meet the increasingly higher demand for higher value glass products, such as low emissions and laminated glass.
Performance and traceability Bottero interprets and anticipates market demand by presenting at this year’s China Glass a float glass cutting table with highly acclaimed technological features which, in addition to boosting performance, allow the glass manufacturer to track the pieces from the time they are cut till delivery to the end customer, an increasingly sought after production automation feature.
Variants The 343 Evo, which is the name of the machine displayed, provides the option of being equipped with two units in addition to the traditional cutting head. The most popular configurations are pre-set for low-e removal and labelling of the cut pieces indelibly (using the laser on display at the stand) or by removable means (with an adhesive, water resistant, repositionable label). Technological evolution is driving the glass sector to appreciate and adopt these systems, which provide for full, real-time control of the entire production chain thanks to dedicated software, and traceability ensured by the barcode or QR code printed or engraved on each piece by ÂBottero cutting machines.

range of products at China Glass, indicate their expectations for the forthcoming fair. “The Chinese market itself does not make a major impact on the corporate budget, since the contacts are for the most part with Chinese companies that export their products”, she explains. “On the other hand, other counties in the Far East are among some of the most important markets we have. Without a doubt, Thailand is a pivotal market - they add - to the extent that the two reference distributors hold senior management positions in the company”. We also have “footholds” in Malaysia, Indonesia and Korea. And, let’s not forget the Middle East.
Thailand, a strategic market “It is an opportunity to meet our customers in the Far East, and also to make contact with manufacturers from Russia, the Balkans, Oceania and South America, since this trade show is one of the leading shows in the world and attracts visitors from all the key strategic geographic locations”. Marta Pesce and Patrizia Pastorino, who will represent Bovone Diamond Tools and its vast

Longer-lasting polishing wheels Other outstanding items are the polishing wheels for arris. “These products have two new features: we are expanding the range and producing these tools for all straightline machines and not just for Bovone machines. In addition, all the wheels are mounted on an aluminum plate ensuring that the tool lasts longer and provides greater polishing power/capacity”.
Tools for new materials In 2015 Bovone Diamond produced 40,000 tools. Nonetheless, explains Pastorino, “ours is not a mass production operation. Instead, we have always aimed to work closely with companies and understand their needs. Which is why - she adds - in addition to having very responsive distributors around the world, we make a habit of visiting our customers and talking to them about any new needs they have”. It is by virtue of these contacts that the company has decided to challenge itself by creating “tools capable of processing the new materials that are making their way into the market, of which glass is one of the components”, concludes the expert.

GENERAL MANAGER OF CEFLA FINISHING SUZHOU
The Suzhou plant in operation for 9 years After years of commercial presence on the Chinese market, in 2007 Cefla Finishing has opened the production subsidiary of Suzhou. “We came to China 9 years ago to open a plant, and locally produce and market finishing systems to meet the local production standards”, says Francesco Mura, general manager of Cefla Finishing Suzhou. Suzhou was chosen because of its importance within one of our main business areas, wood. This is where the factories of the largest door and kitchen manufacturers are located, and Cefla provides them with the very
best of its technology, starting with its flagship system, iBotic, a Cartesian robot made in Italy. About 50% of the sales invoiced by Cefla Finishing Suzhou solely derive from systems manufactured and sold to the local market. “We are in the process of enhancing the efficiency of our installation and aftermarket services, and therefore investing in training” he adds. “Disseminating our know-how is a must - he concludes - and we are also envisaging how we may collaborate with other entities, institutions, and Chinese schools to make mid-long term investments in this region”.
Higher productivity, less waste Prima G is the ideal low-cost machine for companies seeking to increase productivity, reduce waste, and improve the quality and consistency of their finish. Thanks to its 1,300 mm working width, its productivity is higher than manual paint booths and other smaller automatic

The paper conveyor prevents overspray deposits on panel undersides, and ensures impeccable panel face/edge coating. Aspiration is provided by dual dry filtration units. The large filtering surface ensures better air circulation, which translates into an even finish and a cleaner machine. The absolute efficiency of this system minimizes overall maintenance, also thanks to the extreme ease of roll and filters replacement, which combine efficiency with low-cost operation. It is particularly recommended for those who are looking to switch from manual to automatic coating.
“Turnkey” solutions Cefla Finishing mainly designs and manufactures custom tailored and “turnkey” production lines for the wood market sector, but has also become a name behind the names for cutting-edge technology in the glass, plastics, fiber cement, composite materials, and metals sector.

lettromeccanica Bovone plans to focus on two types of machines at China Glass 2016. The first revolves around silvering lines for producing CSP mirrors for use in renewable energy. In fact, a silvering line for parabolic mirrors for solar plants was recently installed in China, a concrete sign of the country’s interest in renewable energies and, above all, recognition of Bovone’s 30-year presence in the area, based on impeccably-constructed, robust machines and a satisfied, constantly growing client pool.
The MSL lines Elettromeccanica Bovone possesses solid know-how in this sector, including flat MSL silvering lines, but it is with the line for parabolic mirrors in particular that the company anticipates significant penetration of the Far Eastern market. The country’s economy is solid at its base “This is a market that historically has been significant for us and today continues to occupy a prime position”. On the eve of China Glass, Massimo Arata, sales manager for Elettromeccanica Bovone, summarizes the Piedmont-based company’s relationship with the Far Eastern market. Its products in this area “are concentrated on flat and curved lines for mirror production, as well as straightline grinders and beveling machines”, he
says. The relationship between Elettromeccanica Bovone and China is a profitable one, “despite the ever-present concerns over competition, to date the local production has never managed to erode our reputation for quality, an asset derived from solid know-how”. The slackening in growth of China’s GDP - “but the percentage is still mind-blowing compared to that in Italy and Europe” - for now, is not a source of concern. “This country is solid at its core; at this point in time, it is probably the richest in the world”, reckons Arata. Twenty years in China “After years of explosive growth, the Chinese economy is currently experiencing a major setback whose backlash is being felt well beyond the Great Wall. Intermac intends to continue to invest in a market that nonetheless has enormous potential and where it is still possible to set oneself apart from the local competition when you have a quality product and cutting-edge technology. Our presence in China, through the Dongguan branch, is crucial in being able to quickly gain insights into market changes and to be able to
offer customer assistance to those who need it. Naturally, this difficult economic climate will lead to inevitable selection among the many players who have entered the Chinese market, both from outside and within. Once this process has run its course, the companies that will have managed to reorganize in the most practical manner and who offer the right products will have everything they need to do business with renewed vigor in one of the top global economies.
The Genius cutting line The Genius cutting line for float glass is a product already in use in countless workshops and companies around the world. This is the perfect product for manufacturers that need to automate their work cycle and increase output and plant safety. This system is made up of three machines. A loader, a cutting table and a break-off table. They can all operate simultaneously, ensuring a high rate of work flow and maximum reduction in waiting times.

Among the newest innovations by the Limbiate-based company, is a special glass preparation system based on immersion of the sheet in an ultrasonic bath, a system used in several applications.
Customization: always Like all Triulzi machines, the two models being promoted at China Glass were also designed and engineered to integrate innovations based on market demand for customized automation, eco-friendliness and energy-efficiency. Unstinting investments in R&D have allowed, and continue to allow the company to grow, improving its already excellent customer assistance for those clients who choose the quality and reliability of Triulzi’s strictly all-Italian production.

“This year at China Glass our technical sales expert will be on hand. We participated in the last five editions of the show, which took place in Beijing and Shanghai, because we believe this event is a key meeting place to engage not only with the Chinese market but also with professionals from neighboring countries and from Europe. For us China is a very attractive market for special machines. We have major Chinese customers for whom we have installed machines for glass treatment and application of low-e coatings, products of a certain importance that must provide high yields and optimal results. It is true that the Chinese market is rife with local competitors but the quality, durability and reliability of our products, and of Italian-made products in general, are traits that certainly set us apart and contribute to our popularity with those customers who recognize and value the difference”.

or at least 35 years, the Fenzi Group has been actively engaged in the Asian market, and especially in China, so much so that in 2006 it founded Fenzi China Paints and Sealants Company Ltd which, over the years has received various accolades. We discussed this with Stefano Pozzi, General Manager of Fenzi China Paints and Sealants Company Limited. How was this made-in-Italy business “lesson” able to make a difference in a country so different from our own? “Over the years we managed to demonstrate the value of the consistent quality of our products, becoming a reliable supplier and very well-established in the market. Speed and efficiency are the basic factors contributing to the steady growth of our market share”.

37 economy over the years and, above all, its behavior in the most recent cycle, in which the Chinese system is undergoing profound change? “China’s economy is not experiencing its best period. In all respects, there is a widespread state of saturation. As far as we are concerned, ‘our journey’ is progressing under fairly good conditions. Now, more than ever, quality, speedy service and the utmost in customer care are decisive, in addition to ongoing innovation and research into developing new kinds of products that are a closer fit to our customers’ needs”. China Glass has grown so much that it is now positioned among the top three international glass industry trade shows globally. What does the Fenzi Group expect from this event, after last year in Beijing and now on stage in Shanghai? “We are expecting a good number of visitors. Including many from South East Asia, the Middle East and Oceania. Shanghai is a major trade show venue and certainly an extremely appealing one. So, we have high expectations for a successful show. For an international company like Fenzi to participate in an event like China Glass is strategic in itself”. What new, innovative assets does the Group intend to leverage as international strategies? “We are working on several fronts and on almost our entire range of products. The development of new technologies -even more cutting-edge and modern - is also paramount for the Chinese market that is becoming more and more competitive, even in terms of quality”.

hina continues to represent one of the key markets for Ocmi, Italian leader in the supply of COMPLETE LINES FOR MANUFACTURING
TUBULAR GLASS CONTAINERS FOR PHARMACEUTICAL USE . Most important Chinese ampoules and vials manufacturers were born and are growing with Ocmi equipments and technical support. This is the reason why Ocmi is considered not only a supplier but first of all a partner by Chinese customers. Such strong relationship can be established thanks to the CAPACITY TO OFFER COMPLETE SOLUTIONS starting with the loading of glass tube and finishing with the packing of the empty glass containers, to develop complementary devices with the purpose of strongly reducing the manual glass handling and finally to support customers with TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER the commissioning of the equipments.

39 INDUSTRY TRENDS
Ocmi-OTG will be present at China Glass 2016, taking place in Shanghai New International Expo Center from April 11th to 14th 2016, in hall W1, stand 188
Government rules regarding type of glass used for pharmacetical containers are quickly changing in China and low borosilicate glass, previously the most produced and converted by local manufacturers, seems to be destinated to be replaced by full BOROSILICATE GLASS TYPE 1, currently produced by main European tube suppliers. This tendency is pushing strongly the local market TO THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE FINAL QUALITY of glass and ampoules and consequently to the purchase of best performming tube converting equipments as only strategy to not lose market shares.
A COMPLETE RANGE OF GLASS-FORMING MACHINERY
One of the first steps during new project developments is to define the best type of machine according with the quantities of borosilicate glass containers to be produced and lots dimensions. OCMI can offer a very complete range of ampoule and vial forming machines to be connected with after-forming lines suitable for the installation of several optional devices in accordance with the type of container needed by the customer. Production and technological development is organized in three plants, respectively located in MILAN (Italian headquarters), CHELLES (in France with Moderne Mecanique plant) e AHMEDABAD (with Ocmi India). Chinese factories interested in starting or increasing their glass ampoules production, can choose their forming machine between 30 stations MM30 MACHINE MADE BY MODERNE MECANIQUE, with a max. output of 4500 pieces per hour, and 36 STATION MACHINE FA36S, PRODUCED IN OCMI ITALIAN FACILITIES. This second model is very much appreciated by main Chinse manufacturers thanks to its station for first bottom forming that allows to produce one more ampoule per each tube and to reduce the glass waste.
EFFICIENCY IS KEY The production efficiency, one of the most important parameters for the end-user, depends not only on the standard equipments but also on the optional devices installed. Camera system for dimensional control OPTISTEM/2 developed by Ocmi for ampoule forming machines MM30 and FA36S surely helps to keep the ampoule stem diameter into more tight tolerances and improve the output quality. Ocmi is able to provide all the necessary technical details
needed during commissioning and production starting including details about consumptions, pressures of air, gas and oxygen for burners feeding, correct levelling of the machine, frequency of maintenance operations. The same is valid for ampoule processing lines by Moderne Mecanique, suitable to be connected with FA36S and MM30 ampoule forming machines. Thanks to ampoule production specialists delegated by
Ocmi to the start-up, the customer can get a very COMPLETE TRAINING about each optional device installed on the after-forming line, such as cutting station for Form B ampoules production, closing station for Form D ampoules production, colour rings application for opening or identification purposes, OPC, printing station with dryer, annealing lehr and packing. This last function is available in standard configuration or in automatic version with PACKING MACHINE PM-A.
Top level vial machines FLA/20E e FLA35 Regarding vials production Ocmi recently upgrade the FORMING MACHINE FLA20/E with new components for the control of main tooling heads movement and for the speed increase up to 3,000 PCS/HR for 2R vials. This forming machine, equipped with two pre-forming heads, is able to perform the finishing of two vial necks in the same time, thanks to the the double main tooling station mounted on one carriage moving in perfect synchronization with the main machine body thanks to the control by PLC and brushless motors. This concept for vial finishing brings the advantage of adapting the neck processing time according to the com-

41 plexity of the neck drawing (particularly for crew neck vials). TOGETHER WITH BASIC FORMING MACHINE FLA20/S, FLA20/E represents a flexible and simple solution for vials to be produced in limited batches. On the other side, the 35 STATIONS VIAL FORMING MACHINE FLA35 is the most performing vial machine made by Ocmi, with max. output of 4,500 PIECES PER HOUR. It’s equipped with three pre-forming stations and seven main tooling heads running on rotating chain perfectly synchronized with the main machine and removable for maintenance operations. This is the best solution for vials produced in long runs since the job change, in this case, is not so quick like in 20 stations machines. All vial forming machines produced in Ocmi headquarters of Milan follow the experience of CONTINUOUS ROTATION TECHNOLOGY with evident increase of productivity.

They can be equipped with CAMERA SYSTEM OPTIVIAL FOR DIMENSIONAL CONTROL and automatic rejection of out-of-tolerance products. The vial after-forming lines from MODERNE MECANIQUE are suitable for 20 and 35 stations forming machines. They are usually equipped with additional station for dimensional control, printing station with dryer, annealing lehr and packing station also in this case available in automatic version.
Index-style option: TAM114 Even INDEX-STYLE vial forming machines TAM114, with 16 stations for mouth forming and 8 stations for bottom finishing and flattening, are available to be offered in Chinese market. These machines, with maximum output of 1,600 PCS/HR, are produced in OCMI INDIA, Ocmi Group subsidiary located in Ahmedabad, in accordance with European quality

standards. Thanks to the strict cooperation b etween INDIAN AND ITALIAN ENGINEERS, the machine has been completely renovated in order to improve relevantly the quality of the finished vial also from the point of view of alkalinity levels. The installation of movable burners for the operations of tube cutting and bursting allows to minimize the time of flame activity on the tube in order to decrease smokes production. The blowers installed in the lower crown for bottom forming will work for the same purpose, in order to remove from the vial the internal smokes produced by cutting o peration.
N. 37 APRIL 2016
The new line LF516/114 New after-forming line LF516/114, suitable to be connected with two index machines TAM114 is UNDER DEVELOPMENT WITH GREAT NEWS applied to the annealing lehr firstly and aimed to reduce losses and improve the complete annealing of the products with the minimum heating dispersion.
Next challenges All these elements make Ocmi ready to face the upcoming challenges in Chinese market, where some interesting new and ambitious projects are under study in different areas. Ocmi confirm is total availability to support the existing customers but also the new potential manufacturers of pharmaceutical glass during the several steps of project development, choice of equipments, installation and start-up of production. All of them will be warmly welcomed in Ocmi booth during China Glass 2016 to get any type of information about the best quality ampoules and vials manufacturing.
