A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD CHAIR AND CEO Founder

Dear Friends and Supporters of Girl Scouting:

Juliette Gordon Low Founded March 12, 1912

As the new Board Chair and CEO of Girl Scouts Louisiana East, it is an honor for us to guide the best leadership development organization for girls in southeast Louisiana. We are inspired by the dedication and passion of our volunteers and community supporters, and we thank you for your commitment to preparing girls for a lifetime of leadership. More than any other organization, Girl Scouts thoroughly understands the value of programming designed specifically for girls and delivered in an all-girl learning space. We are, and will remain, the first choice for girls and parents who want opportunities to build new skills, explore the outdoors, get interested in STEM, participate in service projects, learn entrepreneurship, and grow into happy, successful, and civically engaged adults. From having our voices heard in the state Legislature to demonstrating STEM skills in state and national robotics tournaments, our G.I.R.L.s (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ continue to speak up, demonstrate their skills, and advocate for others. Please join us in sharing our Girl Scout story with others, as we work to improve our communities and make the world a better place.

When it appeared that GSLE’s request for $850,000 of funding from the state to repair Camp Whispering Pines’ lake valve was left off the Capital Outlay bill, Girl Scouts took action, writing letters and calling and visiting with state legislators about the much needed funds. Erosion continues to eat away at our 23-acre lake’s spillway, and if not substantially repaired, Timber Lake could empty into the nearby Tangipahoa River causing flooding downstream. Subsequently, the funding request made the Priority One list, was signed into law by the governor, and a line of credit was approved by the state bond commission.

With studies showing that girls today are not spending nearly enough time outdoors, Get a G.I.R.L. to Camp! was the perfect theme for our 2018 Resident Camp. A total of 529 campers enjoyed sessions ranging from three days to two weeks at Camps Marydale and Whispering Pines. Activities included horseback riding, rock

The national retirement plan, frozen in 2010 and accepting no new participants, has long been a liability and underfunded. The spin-off will ultimately provide cost-savings, the freedom to invest more effectively, and reduce the long term indebtedness as projected by GSUSA.
