RMHC-SLA provides free accommodations, transportation, volunteer-provided meals, and a food pantry to families, alleviating stress and some of the financial burden. Girl Scouts Louisiana East’s Direct Mail Solicitation flyer
Dear Friends, I celebrate one year as CEO of Girl Scouts Louisiana East on December 10 and am reminded of the importance of the Girl Scout Movement and its impact on my life. Time spent as a Brownie and Girl Scout in the former Audubon Council set the foundation for me to grow and develop my current leadership skills. I continue my commitment to Girl Scouting as a Lifetime Member and financial supporter of GSLE so that the current generation of girls can be afforded the Girl Scout Experience that has impacted me and so many female leaders. I have witnessed the value of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in the lives of girls served by our Council. Daisies and Brownies are participating in hands-on S.T.E.M. activities and completing community service projects. Girl Scout Juniors and Cadettes are learning to love the outdoors through a hallmark of the Girl Scout experience—camping! In addition, GSLE recognized 15 Seniors and Ambassadors last June who earned the Gold Award. These young women didn’t just change the world for the better, they changed it for good by tackling issues dear to their hearts while driving lasting change in their communities and beyond. This year has reminded me of a principle that underscores our work at GSLE: when you invest in a girl or woman, you invest in a family, a community, and the nation. Equipping girls with the tools they need to grow into women of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place is a noble cause. I am honored to continue that work with more than 10,000 girls in southeast Louisiana. If you too have witnessed the merit of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, whether in yourself, your daughter or granddaughter, a friend, or simply as a friend to Girl Scouting, I invite you to make a gift. Your financial support underwrites financial aid for girl memberships and uniform costs, volunteer training and resources, the maintenance of our camps and properties, and unique programs like Girl Scouts Beyond Bars. In short, we cannot do it without you. I thank you for thinking about your own experience with Girl Scouting and how your financial support will help to make the Girl Scout Leadership Experience a reality for more girls, right here in our community. Yours in Girl Scouting,
Rebecca Pennington, Ph.D., CFRE Chief Executive Officer

Girl Scouts Beyond Bars
A Parent in Jail, A Family Imprisoned Girl Scouts Beyond Bars Program offers stability to mothers and daughters, improving the mother-daughter relationship, helping girls develop healthy behaviors, and promoting the development of leadership skills.
In Girl Scouts Beyond Bars: The Girl Scout program builds honesty and makes communications between mom and daughter better.
Girl Scouting’s mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
While girls with incarcerated parents may face unique obstacles, in this program they are simply Girl Scouts. They have access to materials, programs, and activities that foster leadership and growth. Girls have the opportunity to believe in themselves and make sound and healthy choices for their futures. The primary goal is to empower girls to take charge of their own lives, regardless of circumstances. Mother and daughter will have the opportunity to meet together once a month and interact with each other through planned Girl Scout meetings, providing opportunities for the strengthening of relationships and leadership development. The program also offers the mother opportunities to attain important life skills while maintaining a relationship with her daughter. For more information:

Make Memories with your Daughter as a
Girl Scout Volunteer Girl Scouts need committed adults to help girls develop skills and confidence in themselves. Make a difference and volunteer – you’ll be glad you did! “The time I spent as a Girl Scout was one of the happiest of my childhood, with many great memories. I want to give the same gift to my daughter that my mother, who was my Scout leader, gave to me.” Lisette Webre, Leader, St. Charles Borromeo
“I decided to become a leader to spend time with my daughter and teach her and her friends how to be strong, independent and compassionate girls.” Veronica Blakesley, Leader, Destrehan
“I really enjoy being a Girl Scout volunteer because I get to spend quality time with my daughter and her friends. It is such a pleasure helping these girls earn their patches as well as helping them to become better citizens through various community service projects. The Girl Scout program offers lots of guidance for me and opportunities for our girls.” Missy Madere, CoLeader, Norco “Throughout my childhood I admired Girl Scouts; unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to join Scouting as a child. Becoming a leader to me is having that chance to be a part of something great and to be able to share these moments with my daughter makes this experience even the more magical! Girl Scouts is now a part of who I am and what I stand for.” Jamie Peck, CoLeader, Destrehan
“I chose to be a part of Girl Scouts because I loved being a Girl Scout as a child. Girl Scouts taught me many valuable things. I want my daughter to experience all the things Girl Scouts has to offer. I do things with my daughter instead of sitting on the sidelines and observing. I want her to build courage, character and lots of confidence.” Terry Jones, CoLeader, Luling “I loved being a Girl Scout when I was a little girl. It was my good fortune to be a leader for both of my daughters. The Girl Scout experiences that we have shared are amazing—camping and cooking outdoors, arts-n-crafts and learning about our world, community service, and making lots of friends and so much more. I wouldn’t change a thing. I treasure all my memories!” Amy Rosalie, Leader, St. Rose
For more information or to volunteer, contact Jan Barbee at 504-289-1291 or jan@groundwater.net OR Amy Rosalie at 504-220-0968 or amyrosalie@bellsouth.net Girl Scout Membership is $15 a year for both girls and adults, but no girl will be turned away for financial reasons. There are more ways to volunteer in Girl Scouts than ever! Choose your Pathway! The Camp Pathway allows girls to participate in the outdoors and/or focus on nature and the environment. The Events Pathway is for girls who like to pick and choose from a menu of stand-alone events that interest them. The Series Pathway gives girls the opportunity to explore a specific theme or topic without making a long-term commitment. The Travel Pathway gives girls different opportunities to visit new places, meet new people, and learn about different cultures and ideas. The Troop Pathway offers the same group of girls the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities. They need a leader and advisor to guide and inspire them in a safe and nurturing environment!
