a message from the board chair and ceo
Founder
Dear Friends and Supporters of Girl Scouting: For over 100 years, Girl Scouts has prepared more than 60 million girls, parents, and professionals for a lifetime of leadership. Leadership is at the very center of our Girl Scout DNA, and as we begin to showcase how G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ represents Girl Scouts and the wide range of experiences available to all girls, we hope to reach more families than ever. Our biggest focus in 2016 was implementation of the Movement-wide, Customer Engagement Initiative (CEI) with its new technology platforms, staffing structure, and re-focus on customer-centric practices designed to make joining and volunteering for Girl Scouts easier than ever. While implementing CEI has not been without its challenges, we are happy to report its success, and feel certain it will be of benefit to all. The historic flooding in August that affected so many of our members brought with it different hurdles to overcome. We are proud of the fortitude our volunteers and girls showed in the face of such adversity, as well as the generosity of sister Girl Scouts from across the country whose donations helped replace ruined uniforms and books. Please take a moment to review highlights from 2016 in our annual Report to the Community, along with our financial information and the names of those who support us and our mission financially. It is because of the unflagging dedication of our committed adult volunteers that we continue to make a difference in the lives of girls and their communities. Please know how much we appreciate your time, energy, and financial support to Girl Scouting.

Nearly 13,000 girls and 5,500 adults in southeast Louisiana were active Girl Scouts, committed to living by the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Over 7,700 individuals participated in councilsponsored programs held across our 23-parish jurisdiction, including 240 Girl Scouts and family members at the fourth annual Thin Mint Sprint 5K and 1 Mile Daisy Dash, and approximately 1,000 in attendance at the Believe in Girls (B.I.G.) event at Southeastern Louisiana University. Girl Scouts demonstrated their entrepreneurial skills by selling (once again), over 1 million boxes of cookies. A record 263 Girl Scouts entered our
A Cookies to College Scholarship Program was established, thanks to funds from our new baker, ABC Bakers. Two Girl Scout Cookie Entrepreneurs, graduating high school students India Evans and Michelle Stutes, were the program’s first scholarship recipients. Girl Scout cookies proved to be the perfect ingredient at our second Cookies & Cocktails gala fundraiser in February, with 20 New Orleans area chefs and bartenders providing tasty treats for gala guests. A fundraising luncheon was also held in Baton Rouge in May, with Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, Mae Calvin-Belton, Nikki Fargas, and Julie Skinner Stokes honored as 2016 Women of Distinction.

Approximately 1,325 girls became Girl Scouts through innovative outreach programs held in housing developments and schools in Baton Rouge and New Orleans as well as through the Girl Scouts Beyond Bars program, thanks to
