Wanting to become a better self and also have a biological child, as a closer to a real humanized relationship with her girlfriend turns possible, she first reaches out to her creator to transform her into a 100% biological human. With his disapproval, Amora now has to face a dystopian dark world and invest into an illegal alternative to get what she desires.
GOALS OF THE PROJECT
• Seize the opportunity of creating my first LGBTQi+ short-movie in Canada as international student that can be curated and perfected with the help of professionals acting in the field • Communicate our passion for sci fi and coming of age movies, within budget but without losing quality • Create a 21st century Pinocchio/ Frankenstein inspired piece • This movie is dedicated to people, like us, that feel sometimes umconfortable on their own skin • Desire to show fragility of life in a poetic way • Portray strong female characters on screen and subtext of themes such as abortion, body disphoria and family conflicts.
CHARACTERS
The latest form developed of an android, Amora is an androgynous character that feels that doesn't fit in as a robot in a human world. She fears the perfection, and loves the poetry of life. • Designed by Steven Matter, developer of the “change” technology • Strong-minded, determined, will do anything to get what she wants • Passionate about humanity and wants to share the real feeling of family
CHARACTERS
Steven is a mechanic-staggered man in his 60s. He was once the founder of HARP, the Human and AI Rebuilt Protection company. Nowadays, with the fast advance of technology, he is retired and has a disbelief in life. He created Amora, and believes that she is the most perfect creation. He has the similar fascination with Amora as Mary Shelley’s Victor Frankenstein has with the Creature in his first moments of life.
CHARACTERS JACKIE Amora's girlfriend, in her 30s. In the past, Jackie was once a robot and went through the process of “change”. She is in favour of Amora changing to human, but fearful that she is going to lose the best part of Amora: her undoubted vision. LINT Co-founder of HARP and DNA composer. He is a failed genious engineer that was fired from one of the biggest industries for his alcoholism and mood-swings. He is fascinated by art and hates new technology. He works with the illegal to get his revenge on the legal change by opening an alternative market of robot organs on his own to sustain an underground need for pieces. STEPHANIE Amora's “mom”. Co-creator of the “change” technology and Johnny’s biological mother. Absent from her life, but present in Amora’s imaginary as a romanticised version of what she aims to be in a near future.
• World is dominated by technology, but humanity is still valuable • The setting is important to estabilish the scenario of changing robots into human beings • 3 locations: Hospital facility (Gbc health building) , Dr. Lint office (Robot’s butchery), Street/Alley in Kengsington market MAIN THEMES • Trust who you are / You are the best version of yourself • LGBTQI+ - dichotomy of “Coming out of the closet” / Body Disphoria • Character’s dissociation from her personality x Struggle to be herself
• Static Shots / Slight movements associated with action scenes • Use of wide angle lenses 18mm and sudden changes to 85/50mm • Use of gels/ coloured lights = screen/futuristic • Ref.: David Lynch/ David Fincher movies / • Lighting dictactes mood and pace of the movie.
• Amora: small details as monitor on her wrist (VFX), mimicking ‘phone’ • Sound will be the main source to show her android qualities - immersion of character’s mindset • Art Direction: minimalistic future, with little to no difference from today’s scenario •
