WHEN A GIRL LEAVES HOME AND ENTERS THE WORLD OF CAMP, SHE MEETS NEW FRIENDS AND PEERS SHE’LL HAVE FOR A LIFETIME. As she sits around the campfire, rides a horse, tries ziplining, or even snorkels for the first time, something in her begins to change—she gains a sense of pride by facing her fears, she grows as a person by learning new skills, and becomes stronger and happier by making new friends. She comes home with a spring in her step and a new light in her eyes. Camp is transformative. Our trained and caring staff support girls grades K-12 in discovering who they are and what they can become. Our engaging activities are designed with girls’ interests in mind, so they can grow their passions and take healthy risks in a safe, supportive environment. Our campers:

]DEVELOP INDEPENDENCE through our girl-led programming, with supportive staff by their side

]DISCOVER A SENSE OF SELF

ATTEND AS AN INDIVIDUAL... She doesn’t need to have her troop to have a camp adventure! Many girls visit camp on their own and make brand new friends that stick with them for life!

...OR BRING A BUDDY!

by challenging themselves to try activities they’ve never done before

Girls can bring a buddy from their troop or a friend who is not yet a Girl Scout. Buddies can be placed together according to program session, age, and Girl Scout level. See more information on our website at girlscoutsindiana.org.

]LEARN RESILIENCE

NOT A GIRL SCOUT? NOT A PROBLEM!

by participating in activities that build confidence

]OVERCOME OBSTACLES and gain a deep appreciation of the great outdoors

]CULTIVATE IMPORTANT LIFE SKILLS by interacting with fellow campers and problem-solving with a team

]RELAX AND UNPLUG FROM THE EVERYDAY while making lifelong friends

You don’t have to be a Girl Scout to attend one of our camps. Whether she’s a first time camper or an experienced adventurer, an outdoor enthusiast or a creative artist, your girl will find her perfect program at one of our camps. General registration for all council-run camps opens January 29, 2020. Visit us at girlscoutsindiana.org to find her camp!

SUMMER CAMP OVERVIEW Applying for a program assistance grant (PAG) Girl Scouts of Central Indiana is committed to providing a positive experience to every girl who wants to be a Girl Scout. PAG's are provided so that a family’s economic status will not be a barrier to participation. To apply, submit the PAG application with your camp registration and health history form. A $20 deposit per girl is required to secure her placement. This deposit is not refundable unless your child cannot be placed into a session. Use a separate grant application per girl. Please fill out your PAG at the same time as your registration form. All applicants will be notified by email as to the approval of the request.

Refund procedure The camp fee does not cover the entire cost of your child attending camp. The remainder is covered by various funding sources that support Girl Scouts of Central Indiana. For this reason the refund policy is: • Refunds are given only if written cancellation is received at least two weeks prior to sessions. • $25 of fee will be retained for handling charges. • Bus fees are not refundable. • No refunds for family camp. Refunds are not given to no shows or campers leaving camp early due to personal reasons including homesickness, sports, family vacations, behavior, lice, etc.

All PAG information is kept strictly confidential. A limited number of grants are available for one camp session per girl.

Camp fees Full fee must be paid no later than May 31 for all camp dates. Failure to do so will result in loss of reservation.

Meet Jaime Hubbard Camp Director, G.E.M.S. I began working in summer camps over 20 years ago and fell in love with watching girls enjoy the freedom of learning for the sake of learning. But, I also had a deep passion and love for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math.) Since 2007, I have been able to mix these loves together through leading STEM opportunities for Girl Scouts. One of the most fun parts is that I often get to learn alongside girls as they develop ways to utilize technology to explore the world around them!

Older girl leadership at day camp

Day camp aides have long been part of the day camp experience. Day camp aides provide a variety of skills, talents, and support to younger campers while continuing to develop their leadership skills in an adult-supported and supervised environment.

Attend a day camp aide-in-training week (for new day camp aides)

This is designed to reinforce basic skills and to give a foundation for leading and working with younger girls in the outdoors. You must be going into at least 7th grade in the fall. The cost is $40 and includes materials, camp T-shirt, patch, and meals on Thursday and Friday. All trainings are Wednesday-Friday with the Thursday overnight. You must complete the entire training, including the overnight to be qualified to become a day camp aide. Experienced day camp aides and girls who have completed the training may apply to be a day camp aide. The cost is $40 per session. The fee includes meals on Thursday and Friday, a camp T-shirt, and patch. You must attend all five days, including the overnight.

Become a day camp volunteer

Do you enjoy the outdoors and have a passion for working with children? Volunteer at camp! Without volunteers, this valuable learning experience would not be possible for girls of central Indiana. Interested parents and adults are invited to register.

Volunteer selection The selection of staff is based on the qualifications of the applicant and the staffing needs at camp. For the safety of all campers, you must be physically able to stand for long periods of time and walk on rough terrain. All volunteers must be registered Girl Scout members and pass a background check. Please find forms online at girlscoutsindiana.org. Volunteer benefits - Attend day camp for free - Waive the camp fee for the girl of your choice - Receive a camp T-shirt and patch - Make a difference in a girl’s life To waive the camp fee, you must attend a pre-camp meeting, attend day camp all five full days (Monday through Friday), and stay on the overnight (Thursday night). Volunteers are expected to stay the entire week for the safety and well-being of our campers. No exceptions! Volunteer training All day camp volunteers must attend the pre-camp meeting at Sycamore Valley on June 6, 2020 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and Na Wa Kwa on June 19, 2020 from 6-8 p.m. At this meeting, you will receive a day camp volunteer manual, learn about the specifics of your session, meet the camp staff and other volunteers, as well as get your questions answered and start planning your unit!

Day Camp Aides Grades: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 An opportunity for older girls to practice leadership! Full descriptions can be found at girlscoutsindiana.org

Meet Mandy Montgomery Camp Director, Camp Dellwood To say I have lived and breathed green my entire life would be an understatement. I attended Camp Dellwood as a camper then went on to later become a day camp aide and an adult volunteer. I have loved the memories I have of Camp Dellwood. With the help of more than 200 amazing volunteers, I am honored to be a part of your summer memories. We have so many great adventures that await us this summer – from hiking the trails to archery to swimming and so much more! I can’t wait to see you at day camp! Contact: Mandy Montgomery 317.924.6871 mmontgomery@girlscoutsindiana.org

After Care Program Opportunities @ Camp Dellwood New this year is the opportunity to extend your day at camp with optional after care. This option runs Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. for an additional fee of $40 per camper. Spots will be limited so register early. Pick up will be at 5:30 p.m. and there is no bus service at this time. Campers will participate in programming during this time. Parents should pick-up campers at 5:30 p.m. – there is not extra time allotted after 5:30 p.m.

Camp Dellwood Sessions

Each camper participating in this opportunity will choose one of three after care options: Swimming Lessons – For beginning swimmers with less than 2 years of swimming experience, this class will teach the basics of water safety, basic swimming skills, and all-around swimming fun. Outdoor Fun – Experience all of the outdoor fun that Camp Dellwood has to offer. From hiking to archery to nature, we have a great week planned! Only campers 9 years of age and older will be able to participate in archery. If a camper is younger than 9, we will substitute this with another program opportunity. STEM – STEM is the foundation of Girl Scouting, and we can’t wait to explore the world of this exciting topic. Join us for some really fun programming and experiments during our STEM adventure! Please note that ALL Dellwood sessions are day camps.
