We would like to start 2021 with a message of gratitude to you, our committed supporters. Over the past year, the pandemic has changed a lot in a relatively short time and we are grateful for your continued support and for helping us celebrate our 26th annual - and first virtual - Take the Lead Berks! This past year, we shifted quickly to remain engaged with the girls, their families, and our volunteers by creating innovative virtual programs and events including Girl Scouts@Home, Camp@Home, and most recently, our virtual Cookie Program! We are thrilled to recognize the leadership of our outstanding 2021 Take the Lead honorees: Kristin Boyd Edwards, Susan Denaro, Jacquelyn Fetrow, and Debra Powell, who represent women’s leadership and provide the example that will encourage our girls to continue to effect change in themselves, in our communities, and our world. Take the Lead is our largest fundraising event and more important this year than ever before. By participating in this virtual event, you share our commitment to raise critical funds for Girl Scouting in Eastern Pennsylvania. Our goal is to provide all girls in our region, regardless of barriers, real or perceived, with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) and to be able to share opportunities to learn and thrive in a girl-led, all-girl environment where girls feel empowered to explore their full potential and discover a strong sense of self. As in previous years, our Girl Scouts are excited to participate in the festivities and serve as event hosts, presenters of awards to our fantastic honorees, chorus singers, and event curators. Take the Lead would not be possible without their months of hard work and preparation. Girls who participate in Take the Lead gain valuable skills in leadership, project and time management, networking, and presentation skills. Take the Lead participants have the confidence to see themselves at colleges and in professions that encourage their growth while making the world a better place. Thank you again for your support,

Deborah Hassan Chair, Board of Directors Deloitte & Touche LLP, Ret.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania and to congratulate the

Take the Lead 2021 Award recipients

Dear Friends, Welcome to Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania’s Take the Lead 2021. This year, it is our privilege to honor four strong women: Kristin Boyd Edwards, Susan Denaro, Jacquelyn Fetrow, and Debra Powell. Through her leadership and achievement, each woman demonstrates what it means to be a Girl Scout and we thank you for joining us in celebrating their courage, confidence, and character. We are proud to be Take the Lead co-chairs and strongly believe in the value the Girl Scouts provide to our community, our country, and around the world. This past year has been filled with challenges. Thanks to the dedication of Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, our girls were able to stay connected during this unprecedented year. Girls participated in virtual troop meetings, earned badges online, attended Camp@Home, and flexed their entrepreneurial skills, setting up virtual cookie booths for the first time ever! Even though our Girl Scouts have been dealing with the pandemic and all its challenges, they have continued to find ways to give back to their communities. Girls have made masks for frontline healthcare workers, written letters to isolated elderly people in retirement facilities, and organized food and supply drives for the increased number of families with economic challenges. Your support of Girl Scouts through Take the Lead creates opportunities for girls to learn and grow while gaining experience as empathetic leaders along the way. Thank you for your support and for attending our first ever virtual Take the Lead Berks County event. Your involvement and commitment to our mission underlines the enduring impact Girl Scouts has in building the next generation of women leaders who are changing the world for the better. Sincerely,

Karen Marsdale Greater Reading Chamber Alliance, Ret.

TAKE THE LEAD QUOTES FROM BERKS COUNTY

Due to COVID-19, Take the Lead Berks 2020 in-person events had to be canceled. This didn’t stop our amazing honorees and Girl Scouts from meeting up and speaking with each other, albeit virtually! Three videos were created for the event, one of which took an indepth look at our shadow day program, which pairs honorees with Girl Scouts to mentor them for a day. The purpose of the videos was to raise awareness about the event, our sponsors, and, most importantly, the honorees and girls. While the event was canceled, all our honorees had the opportunity to connect with girls and teach them about their careers and leadership.

Susan taught me that respect is a two-way street.

CHORUS SING-ALONG

"STAND TALL" Julie and the Phantoms Verse 1:

Verse 2:

Bridge:

Don't blink

Right now, I'm loving every minute

Like I'm glowing in the dark

Hands down, can't let myself forget it, no

I keep on going when it's all falling apart

'Cause everything is rushing in fast

Yeah, I know with all my heart

Keep holding on, never look back

Ooh, ooh

No, I don't want to miss it One thing, and it’s back to the beginning 'Cause everything is rushing in fast Keep going on, never look back Pre-Chorus: And it's one, two, three, four times That I'll try for one more night Light a fire in my eyes I'm going out of my mind Chorus: Whatever happens, even if I'm the last standing

Pre-Chorus: And it’s one, two, three, four times That I'll try for one more night Light a fire in my eyes I'm going out of my mind Chorus: Whatever happens, even if I'm the last standing

Never look back Chorus: Whatever happens, even if I'm the last standing I'ma stand tall, I'ma stand tall Whatever happens, even if I'm the last standing I'ma stand tall, I'ma s tand tall Stand tall Stand tall

I'ma stand tall, I'ma stand tall

Whatever happens, even if I'm the last standing

Whatever happens, even when everything's down

I'ma stand tall, I'ma stand tall

I'ma stand tall, I'ma stand tall

Whatever happens, even when everything's down

'Cause I gotta catch that feeling

I gotta keep on dreaming, 'cause I gotta catch that feeling

I'ma stand tall, I'ma stand tall

Whatever happens, even if I'm the last standing

Whatever happens, even if I'm the last standing

I'ma stand tall, I'ma stand tall

I'ma stand tall, I'ma stand tall

I'ma stand tall, I'ma stand tall Whatever happens, even when everything's down I'ma stand tall, I'ma stand tall I gotta keep on dreaming

I gotta keep on dreaming, 'cause I gotta catch that feeling Whatever happens, even if I'm the last standing I'ma stand tall, I'ma stand tall

Also, with FNB Leadership taking an active role on the 2021 Take the Lead (Berks County) Event Committee, we are ensuring our support of the GSEP program mission to help girls develop courage, a strong sense of character, and recognize the important role of future female leaders." – First National Bank

"The Girl Scouts is an important organization for helping to empower young girls to be leaders. As a former Girl Scout, I remember the inspiring, influential female role models whose courage, confidence and character I aspired to. These women, some of whom I met as an undergraduate student at Albright College, made a difference in my life and in my life’s journey. They helped me to become the leader I am today. I could not be more delighted and honored to serve in that role for today’s young women. Thank you, Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, for this honor and for continuing to provide opportunities for girls to take the lead." – Jacquelyn Fetrow, Albright College "As the bank for all communities it serves, M&T Bank understands the important role the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania play in helping to lift up and inspire women whose leadership and service make all the difference in our communities." – M&T

"MAKE NEW FRIENDS" Traditional Girl Scout Song

Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver, the other is gold. A circle is round, it has no end. That's how long I will be your friend.
