CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HONOREES! Axalta is proud to be a Presenting Sponsor for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania’s 2022 Take the Lead event.
A X A LTA C O AT I N G S Y S T E M S 2
Dear Friends of Girl Scouting, As we gather for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania’s 36th Annual “Take the Lead” event, there’s a feeling of emerging from the shadows back into the light. With the shutdowns and incalculable losses of COVID hopefully behind us, it feels wonderful to be able to celebrate our girls’ accomplishments “live and in person” again, and to share with you, our valued supporters and champions, the opportunities that exist for you to help further our work. The four honorees at this year’s fundraiser represent a breathtaking array of talent, inspiration, and achievement that make them, among other things, ideal role models. We can’t wait for you to meet them, and hear from four exceptional Girl Scouts just what they learned spending time with each of these remarkable honorees. They are women whose careers are marked not just by success, but by commitment, integrity, and service to others. Meanwhile, whether it be the challenges of the pandemic or the struggles of those seeking social justice, we’ve learned over the last couple of years that our world can be a daunting place. Yet when you spend time, as we do, with the young women for whom the Girl Scouts is a place of friendship, learning, bright futures, and unlimited potential...you realize that our world is, on the contrary, a place of shining possibilities. We offer enormous, heartfelt thanks to all our supporters past, present, and future. Please know that, whichever skill-enhancing, characterbuilding, or just plain fun Girl Scouts program, activity, initiative, or event your funding is applied to – yes, including camping! – your dollars are supporting the mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character. Girls who are making the world a better place. As, indeed, are you. Warmly,

Dear Friends, There are many reasons why we, as co-chairs of the 2022 Take the Lead are thrilled to have you at the event this year. This event gives us the chance to demonstrate the benefits of participation in Girl Scouts really are for every girl – from every community in Greater Philadelphia. Girl Scouts has always been about giving all girls a level playing field – a common soil in which they can take root, grow, thrive, flourish, and bloom into young women of purpose and leadership. At Girl Scouts, every girl belongs. Whichever way you choose to underwrite Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania’s (GSEP) work, and in whatever amount, you are making it possible for GSEP to remove economic barriers for so many girls right here, right now. With your investment, we can provide aid for deserving girls who could not otherwise afford the amazing experiences she will have in Girl Scouts. GSEP maintains more than 1,000 acres of beautiful camp properties, provides transportation to and from summer camp, recruits and trains qualified troop leaders, offers uniform vouchers to girls in need, provides enriching programming that cultivates life skills, and even supplies scholarships to girls to pursue higher education and alternative education paths. As investors, philanthropists, and leaders, we know a vitally important cause, and funding well spent, when we see them. And your support of Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania represents both those things, in spades. Please listen closely to the heartening words you’ll hear tonight, and to the wonderful girls you will meet. Each of them is representative of the growth and the achievements of which every girl in our region is deserving. With your help, they will have it. Sincerely,

Julie Alleman CEO Children & Adult Disability & Education Services (CADES)
In college, Julie Alleman realized that she was called to the helping profession, not as a doctor as she had thought, but as a social worker, poised to advocate for the dignity, respect and growth that all humans deserve to receive in life. Alleman began her career as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) working second shift, during which she supported twelve adolescent girls who were living with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She quickly concluded that the DSP role lacked the education and coaching necessary to be successful or to ensure the growth of the individuals she served. It was in this formative experience that Alleman’s philosophy of care began to take shape and has motivated her to the role she holds today. As the CEO of CADES—an education and human services organization serving infants, children, and adults living with intellectual, physical, and developmental disabilities—the pillars of Alleman’s philosophy of care are simple and rooted in the core values of respect, trust, and growth. After twenty-five years in the social services field, Alleman has established herself as a hands-on leader dedicated to advancing the welfare of people living with disabilities, and especially the incredible people who serve them. She completed her Master’s in Social Service at Bryn Mawr College and holds a certificate in Behavior Analysis from the University of Cincinnati. While Alleman clearly loves the work she feels called to do, she is happiest spending time with her husband Perry, raising their two daughters, Taylor and Kate, in Southern Chester County, PA, listening to books on Audible, hiking, and pretending she has a green thumb from March through October.

Powering partnerships. At PECO, we recognize that great leaders grow where diversity is celebrated and people are empowered. That’s why we contribute more than $6 million each year to diverse programs that promote education, the environment, arts and culture, and community enrichment—like Camp Shelly Ridge and STEM programs for our region’s Girl Scouts—giving girls the tools to make an even greater impact in their communities. PECO is proud to partner with Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania in celebrating this year’s Take The Lead award winners.
