GSEP launched its Travel Pathway this fall, and we’re inviting you to be a part of it! The travel pathway gives older Girl Scouts an opportunity to travel both domestically and internationally. These tours will provide you with an experience that you will never forget. Planned tours include Savannah, GA in summer 2014, London and Paris in summer 2015, and Costa Rica in summer 2016— join us on January 12 to learn more details! You’ll even be able to enroll in the tours at the meeting if you want, so bring a check for the initial deposit of $150.

Join professionals from Chestnut Hill College in workshops designed to give you the competitive edge. You’ll get guidance on how to tailor your skills and past experience for your current opportunities, and tips on what format and paper to use to push your resume to the top of the pile. Learn the importance of making eye contact and why the clothes and accessories you wear to an interview can make more of an impression than your flawless resume! You’ll also meet admissions counselors from Chestnut Hill College who can give you the inside scoop on the college admissions process, whether you’re just starting to think about college or you’re in the thick of deciding where to apply. Use the tips and techniques you learn here to buff up your resume for your first job or to shine in scholarship and job interviews like the leader you are.

Join other Daisy Girl Scouts from around the council in the delight of sisterhood! Volunteers from the GSEP History Committee will lead you in learning new songs, playing traditional games, touring the Girl Scout museum, and participating in a scavenger hunt. This event is for girls only! Retreat from the noise of the world and bond with your sister Girl Scouts! Spend the weekend exploring your own circles of sisterhood. Examine the ways female beauty and friendships are portrayed in the media and compare them to your experiences. Define a Sisterhood Issue and plan how to Take Action to create a positive impact. Girls will complete all of the steps leading up to the Take Action project, including project planning. To finish earning the Sisterhood Award, girls will need to implement their Take Action project after the weekend. *Includes accommodations, all food, and Mission: Sisterhood Journey book.

Learn about wild animals that live in your neighborhood and explore their natural homes – their habitats. Investigate an animal habitat, create your own animal house, and discover how you can help protect animal spaces near you. Bring your own lunch and drink (on-site café not open) and enjoy a picnic on the patio. *Includes admission to the Arboretum and the Animal Habitats Badge.

Prerequisite: Highly recommended that girl be working on or have earned LIA before attending Program Aide Training. Are you an older girl looking to become more involved? Program Aides work as a team to design and lead activities for younger girls. You will participate in hands-on activities to learn about

team-building, leadership skills, girl development, and leading a group. Participants will fulfill GSEP requirements for the Program Aide Leadership Course. *Includes snack.

Why did the toad cross the road? To get to the other pond! The spring is mating season for amphibians, and that means American Toads are waking up from their winter naps to look for the perfect mate and the perfect pond to lay eggs in. Help shepherd hundreds of toads safely across Port Royal Avenue as they migrate to and from the reservoir during breeding season.

To create multiple innovative products, a challenge that will test your problem solving, organizational, and communication skills. Join experienced and highly creative entrepreneurs from NextFab Studio in hands-on activities that will help you understand the different stages a product goes through before you can buy it as a consumer. Explore how different materials are used to make products, from metal to wood, electronics, textiles, lasers, and even 3D printing! *Includes Inventor Badge for Brownies and Product Designer Badge for Juniors.

Most people living in the United States today have someone in their family who was an immigrant, maybe your great grandparents, your parents, or even you! Immigration now is very different from the past. Explore the process new immigrants experienced when they entered the United States in the late 1800s to start a new life. Prepare to start your life in America as you receive your new immigrant identity. Explore steerage, the part of the ship where passage was the cheapest, and see the bunk beds where the waves of the ocean would rock you to sleep. Visit the dispensary for medicines and be sure to get your daily ration of “food” to eat. Head to the medical inspection area to check for any diseases or bugs you may have picked up on the ship before you disembark in the United States! Girls will also have the chance to tour the museum and the historic ships from the 1890s, the cruiser Olympia, and the submarine Becuna. *Includes admission to the museum and Playing the Past Badge.

Earn part of your Girl Scout Ways Badge as you participate in workshops and complete a scavenger hunt. Collectors from all over the United States know amazing facts about Girl Scout history, and they’re experts on their collections of memorabilia. Stop by to learn about their collections and get help on your hunt. Items will be for sale, so you can even start your own collection of memorabilia. Be sure to bring your camera, as our Juliette Low has been known to make an appearance! *Includes an Event Patch.

Girls love technology and science! Learn basic engineering principles as you build super-cool models that use gears, axles and pulleys. Discuss the six simple machines and how they make our lives easier. Build one of several different models (a windmill, rubber band car, and catapult) and talk about the science behind the technology. How do these simple machines help us in our everyday lives? Plus spend some time playing in the Discovery Center where your imagination can run wild! *Includes admission to the Discovery Center and Event Patch.

Water Explorers tHursdAy, April 10, 6–7:30pM Alvernia University 400 Saint Bernardine Street, Reading Grades: 9–12 Cost:

$5 per girl

Join the Alvernia Science Association for an evening of water exploration. Travel to the Angelica Creek Park where you will test the water for elements such as iron, copper, and lead. Then practice your design skills as you construct your own water innovation that will benefit the Angelica Creek Park waterway. Complete the program with a “splash” as you create your own water composition to take home. Earn requirements toward your Water Badge.

Grades: 1–6 $45 per person

Have you been thinking about trying overnight camp but are not sure what to expect? Come to this program and spend the weekend getting to know camp! You will experience a campfire, eat in the dining hall, play games and even get a chance to help build the camp gaga pit (and then be among the first to use to it)! By the end of the weekend you will be counting down the days until you come back to camp this summer! This program is open to girls in troops as well as individual girls. Individual girls must be accompanied by an adult. All adults must have a satisfactory background check to participate in the program. *Includes all accommodations and food.

Join other Brownie Girl Scouts for a morning of science fun as you learn about our environment and make your own recycled paper. Come up with a pollution solution and mold animal prints. You’ll also get to mix up some chemical changes as you make Tootsie Rolls. Do you know what a simple machine is? If not, find out when you assemble a working catapult. Put your puzzle solving skills to the test as you create a Soma Cube Puzzle, plus enjoy a few special surprises. Completes Step 1 of the Home Scientist Badge.

Spend the day exploring Shelly Ridge Program Center while hunting for geocaches—hidden boxes that always have surprises inside! Navigate around the 113-acre camp property with a compass. Bring along SWAPS (special whatchamacallits affectionately pinned somewhere) to leave in geocaches and/ or swap with other girls at the event. Juniors will earn parts of the Geocacher Badge.

The rehab center tries to make injured animals feel comfortable while they recover by recreating their homes in the wild. Using “found” natural materials, you will make an animal house, too! A live animal presentation will feature woodland creatures. Bring something to sit on outside. Or, if you’re a first time user or haven’t used the system since last August, activate your account by clicking on the NEW ONLINE ACCOUNT button. 3. If you receive an alert to contact us, please do so. Your record may be incomplete, you may have a duplicate record, or you may not be linked to your girl’s record. 4. Click on the ACTIVITIES tab. 5. Search for the program you want using various search features. 6. Click on the program name and review the details. 7. Click REGISTER NOW. 8. Select the registrant and click CONTINUE. 9. Enter additional information as requested, then click CONTINUE. 10. Confirm your order details and click CHECKOUT; consider making a donation or select the not at this time option, click CONTINUE. 11. Enter your credit card information and click PROCESS MY ORDER. 12. You will receive an email confirmation.

imPortant PointS For ParEntS, GuardianS, and voluntEErS: • Adult spaces in programs are only intended for the adults necessary to meet the girl/adult ratios, unless otherwise indicated. Chaperoning adults are free unless otherwise indicated by a per person or per adult price for the program. All chaperoning adults must be registered for the program. • All girls attending a program or event must be registered Girl Scouts. Girls new to Girl Scouts can register as a New Member online at gsep.org through the online registration system. • Council-sponsored programs are designed for specific age/grade levels. Please only register for programs that are in your age/grade level. • Leaders, parents, and guardians must make arrangements to leave other children at home. Additional children and/or family members are not permitted to attend any GSEP program. • All GSEP Sponsored Programs: According to Volunteer Essentials, all volunteers participating in the Girl Scout movement shall meet GSUSA membership standards, which include committing to the Girl Scout Promise, accepting the Girl Scout Law, registering annually through the Council as members of the Girl Scout movement. Effective January 1, 2014 prior to registering for all programs sponsored by GSEP, adults who are interested in attending must have a current membership that exists on the adult’s record in the online registration system. This applies to all programs advertised in SPARK or via the GSEP website or other communication. Cost of registration is $15 and is in addition to the cost of the program. Adults can register online following the instructions on page 17. • Trips & Overnight Programs: According to Volunteer Essentials, when girls go on trips and overnight programs, the group must have at least two

unrelated, registered, cleared and trained adult volunteers. Adults who attend overnight programs or share GSEP property at the same time girls are in attendance need to be cleared and registered to ensure the utmost safety of the girls. Effective January 1, 2014, in addition to becoming a registered adult member of Girl Scouts, any adult who registers for an overnight program with GSEP will have to successfully complete a Criminal Background Check prior to program registration. By logging onto the Become a Volunteer page of gsep.org, the adult will be directed to apply for a Criminal Background Check (CBC) at their cost of $1.95. Following successful completion of the CBC, the adult can then register for the program. • Due to planning issues and safety concerns, walk-in girl and adult registration cannot be accepted at any GSEP event. rEGiStration dEadlinES: Registrations are accepted until the program is full or two weeks prior to the program date, whichever comes first. Please allow at least four weeks lead time from the program date for processing of paper registration forms. We cannot guarantee paperwork submitted less than four weeks in advance will be processed in time for you to attend the program. ConFirmationS: Confirmations with necessary details will be sent to all registrants by email approximately two weeks prior to the program date. SPaCE and attEndanCE: Program space is limited. Attendance capacity is based on the needs of the program itself and cannot be adjusted due to late registration, transfer requests, troop needs, etc. Program capacity and space availability can be viewed online.

trooP rEGiStration: Only approved 01 troop leaders can register current troop members online using the troop management feature. PaYmEnt: Payment for all programs is due in full at the time of registration. Space will not be held for any registration forms submitted without the full payment amount that is due. rEFundS: Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing to ebiz@gsep.org at least four weeks in advance of the program date for consideration. Refunds are not issued for “no shows” (registrants who do not attend). Refunds are not issued for cancellations occurring less than four weeks in advance or if numbers are reduced less than four weeks prior to the event. CanCEllationS: GSEP reserves the right to cancel an event due to insufficient registration, acts of nature, or other reasons beyond our control. In the event a program is canceled, a full refund will be issued. Weather-related cancellations: if you are concerned with the weather, please contact the facility where the program is taking place. When possible, the event will be rescheduled or a refund issued. For cancellations in advance, email notification will be sent to each registrant. For same day cancellations, an attempt will be made to call the phone number available on record. Phone numbers and emails can be updated at any time through the online registration system when you visit your online profile on our website at gsep.org.
