When Kourtnie was 13, she attended Camp Alice Pittenger, “We spent 3 days rafting the Salmon and this is when I fell in love with the river. During that trip a dream was born. I wanted to be a rafting guide. Ten years later I was blessed to realize that dream.

The Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council has played an important role in the lives of Idaho girls for more than 80 years, inspiring them to become strong young women of courage, confidence, and character. Girl Scouts in Idaho succeed. They demonstrate greater high school graduation rates and are 80% more likely to pursue a college education than non-Girl Scouts. They rise to the top in their careers and become leaders in their communities.
“Without Camp Alice Pittenger, I wouldn’t be where I am today.” Kourtnie is now a river guide at World Wide River Expeditions in Utah. “Being a river guide has been the most challenging and rewarding experience of my life. Without Camp Alice Pittenger, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Thank you for that pivotal experience.” -Kourtnie F.
Core to the Girl Scout experience is summer camp. The Girl Scouts of Silver Sage primary camp property is Camp Alice Pittenger on Payette Lake near McCall, Idaho. At camp, girls learn team-building and leadership skills, they explore the outdoors, and form lasting friendships—all of which helps them develop a stronger sense of self. Unfortunately, the last nozzle will be turned in the shower house at Camp Alice Pittenger this August. The wear and tear on the structure, after visits from thousands of giggling girls, has finally taken its toll and it is time to rebuild.
DISCOVER Reasons to Rebuild
• A new shower house is necessary for safety, sanitation, and American Disabilities Act compliance. • The existing shower house is enclosed but does not have a roof. Google Earth has made it possible to view the inside of the shower house which has created a serious privacy concern. • The roofless structure allows clean water from rain and snowfall to go down the drain and into the sewer rather than into the ground. • The shower house has to be in good working order to accommodate 90-100 campers and camp staff during each camp session. Our modest shower house rebuild has a best practices estimated cost of $175,000. Upgrades include 9 flush toilets, 10 shower stalls, ADA compliance, split entry, energy efficiency, and environmentally conscious plumbing.
“Camp brings complete strangers together in a safe environment, where girls can be themselves and meet life long friends. It’s a place where girls can be leaders and learn extremely valuable qualities, like responsibility, honesty, and confidence” - Anonymous Camper
CONNECT Funding is Essential
Girl Scouts of Silver Sage offers affordable camp rates to make it possible for all girls to go to camp. The gap between camp session rates and the actual operating costs creates an annual camp operations shortfall of approximately $50,000 to $55,000 a year. To meet the financial needs of a new shower house we need to connect with people who have a heart for girls and camp.
