Council Sponsored Programs/Activities

These events are led by staff, community partners, or volunteers. Leaders or approved adults are required to attend events with their Girl Scouts and are responsible for ensuring the safety and behavior management of the girls. If a girl is attending without a troop, a caregiver must chaperone and be responsible for only their girl at an event. All overnights require official Volunteer status including membership and background check.

How to register for programs online:

Access My Events

There's two places you can search for events: From the website (gswny.org)

• Go to the Event Search link under the Discover tab

• Use the search box at the top of the Event List to find your event/camp/ training or click on the event calendar to look for activities by month.

• Click on the name of the event for more details.

From your My GS/My Account

• Log in to your account, click on My Account.

• Select My Events on the left sidebar.

• Select Register for another event

Search For An Event

• Enter a ZIP code (required) where you would like to search (your own or any ZIP code.)

• For virtual events/trainings use ZIP code: 14225.

• Enter in a search radius (required.)

• Search for the program you want using the various search features.

GSWNY Council Programs are open to all Girl Scout Troops and Girl Scouts. Financial assistance to cover program fees is available for troops and individual Girl Scouts. Please reach out if accommodations are needed for a Girl Scout to attend any program.

Register For An Event

• Once you find an event, choose Event Details to review details about event.

• Use the and older (grades 2-12) to select the number of girls and/or adults that you are registering for this event in the right-side panel.

• Scroll down and select the green Log In or Add Events button. You will be prompted to sign in or create an account if you don’t currently have a My GS account.

• On the next page, under Assign Attendees, select either My Household or My Troop Member (if you are a Troop Leader registering troop girls.)

▪ Choose your first attendee. Choose payment option for the attendee. You may have to choose a payment option even if the event is free.

▪ Click Next Participant and repeat the process until all attendees are added .

▪ Once all attendees have been added, choose Submit Member Details.

• Register for additional event? To register for another event in this transaction, click on the Girl Scout logo in the green header and search for the next event. Follow steps above to register.

• Click on Review Cart.

• Accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law at the bottom of the right panel (this must be checked in order to move on.)

• Click on Add Payment Details.

• Add payment information and Submit Payment.

• You will see a payment confirmation showing the order number and the email address where the receipt will be sent. You may also Print Receipt if needed for troop financial reporting purposes.

Now That You’re Registered

On your confirmation page, you can choose Manage My Account to take you to your My GS account.

• Click on My Events tab in the left panel to see a list of all your events.

• Click on the event to see more details about the event including:

⬥ Location of event

⬥ Cancellation policies

Registration Deadlines:

Registrations are accepted until the program is full or when the registration deadline is hit, whichever comes first. Registration deadline are strictly adhered to.

Confirmation:

Confirmation emails will be sent prior to the program, after registration ends, to the email address attached to the girl record.

Program space: Program space is limited. Attendance capacity is based on the needs of the program itself and cannot be adjusted due to late registration, transfer requests, troop needs, etc. Program capacity and space availability can be viewed online.

Program cancellations and refunds:

• Participants who make a cancellation/refund request 30 days or more before an event will receive a refund of 100% of registration fees.

• Participants who make a cancellation/refund request 15 days or more before an event will receive a refund of 50% of registration fees.

• Participants who make a cancellation/refund request less than 15 days before an event, no refund will be issued.

• Refunds will not be given for programs or events under $5.

• Refunds for family emergency or serious illness will only be processed if notification is made before the event and is followed up within two weeks by a written refund request. For serious illness, a doctor’s written note is required within two weeks after the program. A full refund will be provided.

• All requests must be sent to customercare@gswny.org

• No refunds will be issued for no-shows.

Program Pillar Patch

Our Girl Experience Team has planned exciting programming based in the four program pillars of Girl Scouting - STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship. To make sure you get to experience all that Girl Scouts has to offer, we created this Council Programs Pillar patch.

After attending your first Council Sponsored Program and completing the post-survey, you will have earned the main patch. Then, attend a Council Sponsored Program in each program pillar and complete the post-survey to earn that part of the patch. Collect all five pieces to complete the patch. Patches are available for purchase at any GSWNY Shop.

I Camped, I Conquered Patch

Explore camping/an overnight at all of the GSWNY camp properties and earn each part of the I Camped, I Conquered patch! You can do this all in one year or experience a different camp each year.

The Highest Awards in Girl Scouting

The Girl Scout Gold Award, Silver Award, and Bronze Award prove you’ve got what it takes to build a better today and tomorrow.

Bronze Award

The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Junior can earn. Girls work together as a group to complete a Take Action project that directly benefits the Girl Scout community, or the girls’ local community or neighborhood.

Grade Levels Girls must be in 4th or 5th grade and a registered Girl Scout Junior.

Help and guidance is provided by the troop/group volunteer.

Council approval is needed for any money earning.

Silver Award

The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can achieve and gives girls a chance to work with a small team or as an individual. Girls focus on projects that make lasting change in their communities.

Girls must be in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade and a registered Girl Scout Cadette.

First complete a Cadette Journey and complete the Silver Award Training

Work as an individual or in a small group

Gold Award

The Girl Scout Gold Award represents the pinnacle of Girl Scout leadership progression. Open to Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors, this prestigious award challenges them to change the world by solving a community problem in an innovative and sustainable way.

Girls must be in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade and a registered Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador.

First complete two Journeys (Senior or Ambassador) or Earn the Silver Award and complete one Senior or Ambassador Journey and complete the Gold Award Training

Girls work individually

Take action on a community issue the girl cares about

Help and guidance is provided by the Project Advisor

GSWNY Celebrates International Day of the Girl

International Day of the Girl will provide girl and adult members of GSWNY with a full day experience to celebrate what it means to be a girl. This event will educate, empower and foster wider relationships both within Girl Scouts and the WNY Community through fun activities, Global Action Award badge earning opportunity, adult exhibits and so much fun. Lunch will also be provided. Girls will participate in a global take action project by collecting and donating school supplies to a local organization. All donations will be given to Journey’s End in Buffalo, NY.

Total Solar Eclipse 2024

Monday, April 8, 2024

On April 8, 2024, at 3:20 p.m., Rochester/Western NY will be in the path of totality of the Great North American Solar Eclipse! In collaboration with the Rochester Science Center, Girl Scouts of WNY will offer unique, fun and engaging STEM activities leading up to the eclipse. Step outside with GSWNY on April 8, 2024, for this once-in-a-lifetime event. All participating Girl Scouts will receive solar eclipse glasses and a patch. We are currently working on programs at various camp properties throughout our council as well as locations in Rochester and Buffalo.

In this workshop you will design and make a wearable piece of jewelry. You will learn how to use some of the basic tools that are used in the jewelry repair industry. These same skills are commonly used by electricians, dentists, computer repair technicians and many other trade professionals. This class focuses on three (3) skills, (1) Learn to identify simple hand tools by name, (2) Demonstrate proper use of tools to wrap wire into usable shapes, and (3) Design and make a wearable piece of jewelry. The art of knotting and braiding has been used for hundreds of years and is a valued skill for hunters, boaters and fashion designers. When you’ve earned this badge, you will know how to use a basic tool to transform flat braiding material into a useful object. This class focuses on three skills:

(1) Learn to prepare a braiding disc tool for square knot and spiral braiding, (2) Learn the names and techniques for shaping basic knots, and (3) Design a functional tool, such as a key chain, bookmark, or bracelet. Learn how to take care of and love the skin you’re in with Dr. Kanasha Blue from Mary Kay. Each participant will receive a satin hands pampering treatment, learn about the importance of daily skin-care routine, and be led through a self-guided spa facial. Along the way, you’ll discuss what makes you special, how to be a caring friend and family member, healthy relationships, and self-respect. You’ll also hear the inspiring story of the founder of Mary Kay and her entrepreneurial drive. There will be a drawing for a prize and all participants will leave with a spa goodie bag.

Winter camping can be lots of fun if you know how to stay warm. Join us at camp as we show you how to plan for a safe and fun winter trip, practice fire building, try out gear, share tips and tricks for staying warm, and much more. Come prepared to spend the afternoon outside in any conditions and pack a hearty lunch. This will be held at GSWNY's Camp Piperwood.

Winter camping can be lots of fun if you know how to stay warm and you are not afraid of a little work. Gathering firewood, building a fire, going for a hike, collecting water from a frozen lake, and cooking over a woodstove are just a few of the things you will experience in this challenge filled program. Girls will have a choice of a 4 season tent to themselves with Zero Degree sleeping bags and additional insulating gear, or a group canvas wall tent with wood burning stove for additional warmth throughout the night. Fee includes 4 energy packed meals, use of GSWNY winter camping gear, fun patch, and 40+ hours of winter camping experiences you will never forget.

A mandatory pre-event zoom meeting will take place to help you prepare for a safe night in near freezing temperatures.

How Do I Get My Photos On Social Media?

Send your photos or video to communications@gswny.org and details about the activity being shown in the photos, troop number(s), and the location. Quotes and comments from girls are also very welcome. Each girl is required to have parent/guardian permission before submitting. If you have large batches of photos or a video that would be difficult to send over email, we recommend using DropBox or Google Drive. We prefer photos of girls in uniform, but it is not a requirement.

The council reserves the right to use submissions for future marketing and public relations materials.
