Guðmundur, the founder of Guðmundur Jónasson Travel, was not content with Iceland’s limited number of roads in the 1930´s, so he pioneered his own. His travels in the highlands and on Iceland’s glaciers are legendary and today’s travellers benefit from his explorations. When NASA chose Iceland as their training ground for the first moon landing because of the lunar style landscape, they chose Guðmundur to show the way. He teamed up with Sir Edmund Hillary, guiding him when he visited Iceland after his ascent of Mt. Everest. Those who travel with us today travel in his footsteps and we hope they share his love for this Land of Ice and Fire called Iceland.

Iceland - A land for all seasons The Country: Iceland is an island of 103.000 km2 (39,756 sq.miles), about the size of Portugal, Cuba, South Korea, the US state of Kentucky and the Indian state of Bihar. Its highest peak, Hvannadalshnjúkur, rises to 2.110 m and over 11 per cent of the country is covered by glaciers, including Vatnajökull, the largest in Europe. Energy: Situated on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Iceland is a hot spot of volcanic and geothermal activity: 30 post-glacial volcanoes have erupted in the past two centuries, and natural hot water supplies much of the population with inexpensive, pollution-free heating. Rivers are harnessed to provide affordable hydroelectric power. People: Out of a population numbering around 330.000, two-thirds live in the capital Reykjavík and its neighbouring towns in the southwest. Keflavík International Airport is located about 50 km (30 miles) from the capital. The interior highland is uninhabited (and uninhabitable), and most centers of population are situated on the coast. Language: Iceland was settled by Nordic people in the 9th century - history tells that the first permanent settler was Ingólfur Arnarson, a Norwegian Viking who made his home where Reykjavík now stands. The Icelanders still speak the language of the Vikings, although modern Icelandic has undergone changes in pronunciation and in vocabulary! Iceland is alone in upholding another Norse tradition, i.e. the custom of using patronymics rather than surnames. An Icelander’s Christian name is followed by his or her father’s name and the suffix -son or -dóttir, e.g. Guðrún Pétursdóttir (Guðrún, daughter of Pétur). Members of a family can therefore have many different "surnames", which sometimes causes confusion to foreigners! Route 1 or the “Ring Road”: It is the main road in Iceland which goes around the island, mostly along the coast, connecting many villages and towns. The total length of Route 1 is 1,360 kilometers (843 miles). In general, driving tours around Iceland with the most popular side trips are about 2000 km (1.240 miles). If you add the Westfjords, calculate about 3000 km (1.860 miles) of driving.

Best time to travel: Iceland is a country that inspires visitors year round. Spring offers brightening days and emerging flora and fauna, summer has nearly round-the-clock sunlight and balmy weather, autumn brings a wonderful change in colours while winter features dark mysterious days, softly glowing Northern Lights and even occasionally snow. The hardest part is choosing when to visit. The climate in Iceland: Thanks to the Gulf Stream, Iceland enjoys a moderate maritime climate: cool in summer and fairly mild in winter. Normal summer day temperatures range between 5-8 °C (41 – 47 F) for lows and 12 -18 °C (54 – 64 °F) for highs. When it comes to Iceland’s weather — the one thing you can count on is unpredictability. The best plan is to be prepared for anything and everything AND always to dress in layers. The Icelanders have a saying: "there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing." Day 1, MON: WELCOME TO ICELAND FLYBUS shuttle to Reykjavík. Day 2, TUE: GOLDEN CIRCLE We start with classic highlights: Gullfoss waterfall, the active geothermal area of Geysir and the UNESCO world heritage site of Þingvellir National Park. Overnight in West Iceland.

Day 3, WED: SNÆFELLSNES PENINSULA AND LAVA CAVE Today we

travel around the Snæfellsnes Peninsula where volcanic craters, lava flows, an ice cap, mountains, fjords, sandy beaches and high cliffs shape the landscape. A lava cave tour takes us 35 meters underground and about 200 meters into a lava tube. In the afternoon we catch the ferry to the West Fjords over a wide bay with countless islands. We stay for two nights in the area of Patreksfjörður.

Day 4, THU: ICELAND’S WESTERNMOST POINT We follow the coastline and stop at a charming folk and transport museum. We continue through a very remote and sparsely populated region to Látrabjarg, the largest seabird cliff and westernmost point of Iceland and Europe. If weather and road conditions allow we travel to Rauðisandur beach. Day 5, FRI: BEAUTIFUL WEST FJORDS We travel the shore of scenic fjords, beautiful beaches, and pass through small fishing villages until we reach the unique waterfall Dynjandi. We continue along the southern shores of the West Fjords. This is a route less travelled and is characterized by sheer cliffs, deep cut bays and narrow stretches of coastal lowland.

Day 6, SAT: HEADING NORTH At Haukadalur, there is an authentic replica of the homestead of Erik the Red, the famous explorer who founded the Icelandic colony in Greenland. His son Leif-the-Lucky was the first European to set foot in North America. We head north and stop at a local farm for lunch and a horse show. We stay two nights in Akureyri.

Day 7, SUN: NORTHERNMOST TOWN We travel to Siglufjörður, Iceland's northernmost town and known as the herring capital of the North Atlantic. On the way we pass small fishing villages and stop at a deserted valley that even most Icelanders have not seen. Included is a visit to the Herring Museum and also beer tasting at a local micro-brewery. The rest of the day is free at leisure and optional whale watching or horseback riding.

Day 8, MON: GEOLOGICAL WONDERS AND NATURE BATHS We explore Goðafoss waterfall and continue to Lake Mývatn, known for its rich bird life and extraordinary volcanic lava landscapes. We visit pseudo craters, walk in the lava field Dimmuborgir, see the tephra cone Hverfjall, see hot springs, fumaroles and bubbling mud pools, travel to the explosion crater lake Víti and soak at the Mývatn Nature Baths.

Day 9, TUE: THE SECRET OF THE EAST Dettifoss is Europe’s most powerful waterfall. From there we head through the uninhabited highlands to the isolated village Bakkagerði in East Iceland. Only 120 inhabitants live in this charming fjord village, built snugly next to colorful and impressive mountains, and known for its extensive population of elves. Look out for kittiwakes, puffins, and other seabirds. Day 10, WED: FJORDS, GLACIER, AND ICE It’s a day to admire the dramatic fjord landscape and its tiny fishing villages in the East Fjords where we visit an interesting stone and mineral collection. Vatnajökull is Europe’s biggest glacier and we stop for a boat ride amongst the floating icebergs on the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. Overnight in the region.

Day 1, SAT: WELCOME TO ICELAND FLYBUS shuttle to Reykjavík. Day 2, SUN: LAND OF SAGAS & VOLCANO CLIMB After a Reykjavík city tour, we head to West Iceland. In the settlement center in Borgarnes we learn about the Icelandic sagas. Next, we climb Grábrók volcano crater, formed about 3400 years ago. Deildartunguhver is one of the most voluminous hot springs in Europe. Soon after, we explore Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. Enjoy Icelandic history at the cultural site in Reykholt. Overnight in West Iceland.

Day 3, MON: TRAVEL NORTH, WHALE WATCHING & SEA ANGLING Today, we travel over mountain passes, through lava fields, green pastures, fertile farmlands and along fjord landscapes to North Iceland. We go whale watching and sea angling at Eyjafjörður, Iceland's longest fjord, right below the Arctic Circle. Before reaching the picturesque town of Húsavík in Northeast Iceland where we stay two nights, we stop in Akureyri, Iceland's second-largest city.

Day 4, TUE: GEOLOGICAL WONDERS & NATURE BATHS The day begins with Goðafoss, a beautiful waterfall but also a prominent spot in Iceland's history. We tour the Lake Mývatn area, known for its abundant bird life and amazing volcanic lava landscapes. The lake's unique features are shaped by nature - strange lava formations, any kind of volcanic craters, attractive bays filled with thousands of birds and ducks. We stroll through the mysterious lava field of Dimmuborgir, look at pseudo craters and see the tephra cone Hverfjall. Our last stop is the Mývatn Nature Baths, where we soak in geothermal water, which contains a lot of minerals, is alkaline and well-suited for a relaxing and rejuvenating bath. Day 5, WED: FROM NORTH TO EAST We explore the geothermal area of

Námaskarð with hot springs, fumaroles and bubbling mud pools. At Krafla, we see the impacts of volcanic activity and you can smell the sulfur. Víti is a circular explosion crater filled with blue water, surrounded by colorful mountains and hissing steam vents. We continue our journey to the 44-meter high Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall. From there, we head through the uninhabited highlands to East Iceland, where we stay one night.

Day 6, THU: FJORDS, GLACIERS, AND ICE The Icelandic ring road takes

This round-the-island tour shows you highlights of Icelandic nature, geological wonders, historical and cultural sites. In the afternoon travel to an important spot in Iceland's history, Goðafoss, the waterfalls of the Gods. Continue to Lake Mývatn which is known for its geological wonders and active bird life during summer. Stop at bizarre lava formations, walk around pseudo craters and soak at Mývatn Nature Baths that contain a unique blend of minerals, silicates and geothermal micro-organisms. Overnight at Lake Mývatn or in Húsavík.

Day 4, FRI & MON: LAVA LABYRINTH, HOT SPRINGS & TRAVEL EAST Today hike in a lava labyrinth at Dimmuborgir "the dark castles" and visit the hot spring area of Námaskarð with bubbling mud pools and steaming solfataras. Head through the uninhabited highlands and moonlike surroundings to East Iceland. Overnight in Egilsstaðir or in Borgarfjörður-Eystri.

Day 5, SAT & TUE: EAST FJORDS It's a day to admire the dramatic fjord landscape and its tiny fishing villages at the end of twisty roads in the East Fjords and on route we visit an interesting stone and mineral collection. In the afternoon we reach Vatnajökull – Europe’s biggest glacier that is visible all over Southeast Iceland. Overnight in Höfn.

Day 6, SUN & WED: VATNAJÖKULL & SOUTH COAST We travel along

the southern part of the glacier Vatnajökull and spend some time at Europe’s largest national park. We stop at Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs, and we walk on the black sands of the so-called Diamond beach, where large icebergs get stranded. A beautiful drive with many natural wonders awaits us in the afternoon. We head across the Eldhraun lava field and the sandy desert of the south coast, overlooked by mountainous cliffs, glaciers and waterfalls. We stroll along the black lava beach of Reynisfjara near Vík. Skógafoss waterfall is 62 meters high and one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country. We continue to the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall which plunges over the mountain. Overnight location is near Hvolsvöllur, South Iceland.

Day 7, MON & THU: ICELANDIC HORSES & GOLDEN CIRCLE We explore classics today as we travel the route of the Golden Circle sights. We start the day at Friðheimar, where you learn about the Icelandic horse, its special qualities and history and visit a geothermal greenhouse. Explore Geysir geothermal fields with a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools. We continue to Gullfoss, "the golden falls", which is a double waterfall that tumbles 34 meters into the Hvítá river and attracts travellers in summer and winter. We travel inland to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. As we return to Reykjavík, we take you for a short city tour to show highlights of the world's northernmost capital. tour guide and warm up in the geothermal mineral rich waters of the famous Blue Lagoon. Next, we explore Krýsuvík, an area with solfataras, fumaroles, mud pots and hot springs. We continue through lava fields to Strandarkirkja, a Lutheran parish church on the southern coast of Iceland. Next stop is the charming fishing village of Eyrarbakki where we visit the local Maritime and Folk Museum. Stay 3 nights in Hella, South Iceland.

Day 3, TUE: LANDMANNALAUGAR & ÞJÓRSÁRDALUR Today we drive the rough unpaved road to Landmannalaugar, an oasis in the barren highlands, surrounded by colorful rhyolite mountains. The highlight is a 90-minute round-trip hike up toward Brenninsteinsalda, the rainbow mountain of Iceland, which is still "hot" and where you can see sizzling sulfur springs and vapor at its sides. It could very well be the most colourful and spectacular volcanic mountain of Iceland, and so its picture is often found in books and calendars. In Landmannalaugar there is also a natural geothermal stream where you can enjoy a relaxing bath. We continue to the beautiful waterfall Hjálparfoss surrounded by unusual basalt rock formations. Nearby is the Viking farm ruins at Stöng, which was completely buried in pumice during one of Hekla Volcano's bigger eruptions in 1104. A leisurely hike brings us to Gjáin, a green oasis in an otherwise rocky, barren moon-like landscape. Þjórsárdalur is off-the-beaten-path and is dominated by Hekla, one of Iceland's most active volcanoes. Day 4, WED: GOLDEN CIRCLE Today, we explore Þingvellir, a national park and UNESCO world heritage site, followed by Geysir hot springs and Gullfoss waterfall. After the three "must-see" sights on the Golden Circle route, we add a little extra. There is a small waterfall called Faxi, and nearby we visit a traditional sheep pen, and Skálholt, which is one of Iceland's most historic and holy places.

Day 5, THU: WESTMAN ISLANDS Short ferry ride to the Westman Islands, where we explore bird cliffs, walk up a volcano crater and visit „Pompeii of the North“, a volcanic excavation project. There you observe a “house” which was dug up from the thick layer of pumice after 40 years. You have the afternoon free to wander around the town of Heimaey, with its birds and signs of recent volcanic eruptions. In the evening we travel to our accommodation near the village of Vík in South Iceland, where we stay for two nights.

Day 1: WELCOME TO ICELAND FLYBUS shuttle to Reykjavík. Day 2: REYKJAVIK CITY TOUR & BORGARFJÖRÐUR SAGA VALLEY Meet our tour guide and start with a Reykjavík city tour. Then we head west. Borgarfjörður is known as the Saga valley because of its many important historical events. We get a chance to climb a volcano crater and visit Europe's most powerful hot spring. Hraunfossar is a series of waterfalls pouring from beneath a wide lava field. We spend two nights in Borgarnes, West Iceland. The afternoon includes a lecture about Northern Lights. Day 3: SNÆFELLSNES PENINSULA & FJORD CRUISE We travel to the picturesque fishing town of Stykkishólmur on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula for a cruise in the Breiðafjörður fjord. A uniquely Icelandic “treat“ awaits us at Bjarnarhöfn, where they make Hákarl - the fermented shark. Naturally, once darkness falls, we are out in the hotel garden to chase the Northern Lights and to soak in the hotel’s outdoor hot tubs.

Day 4: GOLDEN CIRCLE, GEOTHERMAL TASTE & ICELANDIC HORSES Today we travel along the scenic shores of Hvalfjörður fjord and turn inland to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. Volcano Information Center we learn about living with active volcanoes. Skógafoss waterfall is 62 meters high and one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country. It is near one of Iceland's finest folk museums with turf-built houses. Next we take a stroll on the black lava beach at Reynisfjara in South Iceland. We spend 2 nights in the Vatnajökull National Park region, located in complete darkness and ideal for Northern Lights search.

visible in the northern sky from September through April when the sky is clear and free of clouds. The tour is dependent on weather and therefore sightings are not guaranteed. Like many natural wonders, it is an ephemeral spectacle – the Northern Lights may be visible, they may appear for a bit and then be gone (it is not a TV show that you can just turn on and off). But it is worth the patience which is much required. Because they are a winter event, you need to be prepared to wait outside while looking for them. It is best to dress very warmly, in layers, with good footwear, gloves, hats and whatever else makes you comfortable while you await this truly outstanding event. For the best photos we recommend using a tripod.

Day 6: SKAFTAFELL NATIONAL PARK & VATNAJÖKULL GLACIER Today’s program: glaciers, ice and icebergs. We travel to Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs, and we explore the extraordinary site and might see seals swimming in arctic waters. In the afternoon we visit the tiny turf church at Hof and spend time at Europe’s second- largest national park, which has Iceland’s highest mountains, an alpine environment, and Europe's largest glacier. In the evening enjoy a film presentation about the Northern Lights as part of the Northern Lights Academy program. Be careful not to go to bed too soon in this remote and quiet location or you may just miss out one more chance of seeing the Northern Lights shimmering and dancing across the night sky.

Day 2, GOLDEN CIRCLE & SNOWMOBILE Meet your tour guide and

head to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. We travel the Golden Circle route and visit Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir geothermal fields with a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools. In the afternoon, we join a snowmobile tour on the nearby Langjökull glacier. Overnight at a small countryside hotel in South Iceland. Tonight, we search for the elusive Northern Lights from the hotel garden and experience the true Viking winter wonderland amidst the peace and stillness of rural Iceland.

Day 3, SOUTH COAST & GLACIER HIKE Today, we travel the South Coast to stop at the rocky plateau at Dyrhólaey and walk along Reynisfjara, a black lava beach with high bird cliffs and pounding waves. In the afternoon, we take you on an easy and fun glacier hike on the breath-taking Sólheimajökull glacier tongue and explore the wonderland of ice sculptures, water cauldrons, ridges and deep crevasses. We continue to the lovely village of Skógar where we stay two nights. There, you will be able to experience the magnificent Skógafoss waterfall which is 62 meters high and one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country. In the evening, join a torch walk near the waterfall and look out if the auroras are across the sky. Day 4, GLACIER LAGOON & ICE CAVE Today's program is all about glaciers, ice and icebergs. A long drive brings us to Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs. At this extraordinary site, you might see seals swimming in arctic waters. You can walk on the black sandy beach, the so-called Diamond beach, where large icebergs get stranded. In the afternoon we spend time at Europe's largest national park, which has Iceland's highest mountains, an alpine environment, and Europe's largest glacier. Experience a spectacular natural crystal ice cave in Europe‘s largest glacier, Vatnajökull. It is like standing under a frozen blue ocean or in a frozen cathedral surrounded by millions of shades of blue. Deep under Iceland’s massive Vatnajökull glacier, beautiful caves of ice are formed by rivers of meltwater during the summer time. Cold winter temperatures strengthen the ice and make explorations possible and safe to enter the natural ice caves between November and March. In the evening, enjoy a film presentation about the Northern Lights as part of the Northern Lights educational program. Day 3, THU or SAT: SOUTH ICELAND WITH OPTIONAL GLACIER HIKE Today we head along the south coast and reach the area near the active

volcano that is beneath the Eyjafjallajökull glacier. We stop at the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which plunges from the mountain. Next we visit Skógar folk museum, which contains an outstanding collection of farm and domestic artifacts from Iceland's past and several turf-built houses. Nearby is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country; the 62 meter high Skógafoss waterfall. In the afternoon we offer an optional glacier walk. The Sólheimajökull glacier tongue extends from the great Mýrdalsjökull glacier, down to the sandy plains of the Icelandic south coast. The spectacular surroundings are marked by rugged and majestic rock formations thoroughly shaped by the glacier. On this fun, safe and easy to moderate glacier walk you get to explore the wonderland of ice sculptures, water cauldrons, ridges and deep crevasses on the breath-taking Sólheimajökull glacier. If you booked the trip without the glacier hike, then the tour continues further south were you can stroll on the black lava beach to see the amazing bird cliffs at Reynisfjara near Vík. In the evening there is another presentation about the Northern Lights. If the night is clear, you might see the Northern Lights swirling in a wild and carefree dance across the heavens in dramatic shapes, colours, patterns and sizes.

Day 4, FRI or SUN: HORSES & GOLDEN CIRCLE In the morning you learn about the Icelandic horse, its special qualities and history and visit a geothermal greenhouse. Travel the Golden Circle route. See steam rising from the Geysir geothermal fields as you arrive. There is a variety of hot springs and bubbling pools. Strokkur, "the Churn", erupts at 5-10 minute intervals. Continue on to Gullfoss, a double waterfall that tumbles 34 meters into the Hvítá River and attracts tourists and travellers in summer and winter. Head inland to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site, before returning to Reykjavík for your last night. our tour guide and start the escorted tour program with a short introduction to Icelandic geology while watching a striking film at Reykjavik Volcano House documenting the eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull and Fimmvörðuháls in 2010, which caused millions of people to be stranded worldwide as thousands of flights were cancelled. These films give a good insight into the general geology and volcanology of Iceland. At the Volcano House you can experience a hands-on geological exhibition and examine various pieces of pumice, ash and lava from Icelandic volcanoes. Later on we depart Reykjavik for Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. Þingvellir is one of Iceland's most fascinating historical and geological places. The site is situated on the boundaries of the tectonic plates of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The faults and fissures of the area make the rifting of the earth's crust evident. Exploring the hot springs at Geysir is like watching a geography lesson in real life: natural springs bubble away in the ground until the pressure becomes too high and explode spectacularly. Geysir and Strokkur are the two biggest of the geysers there. While Geysir no longer is active, Strokkur still spouts every 5 to 10 minutes to the delight of visitors. Next we travel to Gullfoss, a double waterfall that tumbles 34 meters into a canyon. Kerið is a caldera with a crater lake at the bottom and which resembles an ancient amphitheatre. In the evening, you hear about the Northern Lights from our tour guide. Naturally, once darkness falls, we are out in the garden waiting for the Northern Lights. Day 3, TUE: VATNAJÖKULL NATIONAL PARK & GLACIER LAGOON A long drive brings us to a world of glaciers, ice and icebergs. We travel to Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs. The Vatnajökull National Park is about 12,000 square kilometers and it is the second-largest national park in Europe. After dinner we show a movie about Northern Lights as part of the Northern Lights educational program. Be careful not to go to bed too soon in this remote and quiet location, or you may just miss out one more chance of seeing the Northern Lights shimmering and dancing across the night sky. village of Vík where we make a photo stop. We take a stroll on the black lava beach and along the bird cliffs at Reynisfjara in South Iceland. We pass the glacier Mýrdalsjökull and the infamous volcano Eyjafjallajökull and continue to Skógafoss waterfall which is 62 meters high and belongs to the most impressive waterfalls in the country. Day 2, WED & SAT: WEST ICELAND Meet the tour guide and travel west, passing the town of Borgarnes and climb the Grábrók volcano crater. Day 4, FRI & MON: TRAVEL EAST Hike in a lava labyrinth at Dimmuborgir, visit the hot spring area of Námaskarð with bubbling mud pools and steaming solfataras and travel to Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall. Head through the uninhabited highlands and moonlike surroundings to East Iceland.

Day 5, SAT & TUE: EAST FJORDS It's a day to admire the dramatic fjord landscape and its tiny fishing villages at the end of twisty roads in the East Fjords. Visit an interesting stone & mineral collection and overnight in Höfn.

Day 6, SUN & WED: VATNAJÖKULL & SOUTH COAST Start the day at Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs. We spend some time at Europe’s second-largest national park, which has Iceland’s highest mountains, an alpine environment and Europe’s largest glacier. Day 1: WELCOME to ICELAND Private transfer from Keflavík International Airport to a 4-star hotel in the center of Reykjavík, where you spend 2 nights.

Day 2: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE Iceland is spectacular and so is the Golden Circle route. Experience wide open volcanic landscapes. Visit the ancient Viking Parliament area of Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site, and the place where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet - and are moving apart. There is a widening fissure in the ground where the planet is literally opening up. Next stop is Gullfoss, a double waterfall that tumbles 34 meters into a glacial river and attracts travellers all year. Nearby are the Geysir geothermal fields. Sheer power of water and steam erupts and really makes you realize how alive the ground is beneath our feet.

Day 3: TRAVEL TO WEST GREENLAND Private airport transfer in Reykjavík.

A 3-hour flight brings you to Ilulissat in West Greenland, 300 kilometres north of the Polar Circle. Transfer and welcome meeting at 4-star Hotel Arctic. Enjoy a guided city walk of Ilulissat and afterwards you have some time to explore the town, visit the local museum and observe Greenlandic life at the always busy harbour. There is hardly any place in Ilulissat where there is no view of either the Icefiord, the Disko Bay or another natural gem. After dinner, depart for a midnight sailing trip to the famous Ilulissat Icefiord which is the world's largest ice sculpture park. The experience is overwhelming as lights and colours change constantly.

Day 4: EQI – THE CALVING GLACIER Early morning departure by boat to Eqi - the calving glacier. Only few places in Greenland are as beautiful as the Eqi glacier, which runs into the fjord 80 km north of Ilulissat. You can get close to the edge of the glacier by boat as we cruise in front of the glacier for around one hour and might see the calving process. The front of the glacier is 3,4 km wide! The sound of the active glacier is quite remarkable while the sight of icebergs toppling into the water is breathtaking. Afterwards we continue to the small settlement of Ataa, a former trading station, where we enjoy a delicious lunch. On the way back to Ilulissat, keep your eyes open and hopefully you will spot some whales.

Day 5: INUIT SETTLEMENT AT ILULISSAT ICEFIORD Guided walking tour to the old Inuit settlement in the Sermermiut valley, on the famous Ilulissat Icefiord, which was inscribed on UNESCO's world heritage list in 2004 because of its outstanding glaciology and natural beauty. Learn about local history and Inuit customs and admire the views across the majestic icebergs. The Icefiord is about 65-70 km long. It is densely packed with floating icebergs and ice floes, which are slowly pushed out through the fjord. Sit down and try listening for the many different sounds of the ice. This is nature at its best. The rest of the day is free at leisure to hike along the Icefiord and explore the town of Ilulissat. Farewell dinner at Hotel Arctic. Day 6: TRAVEL BACK TO ICELAND Explore the town of Ilulissat in the morning and do a bit of last minute Greenland shopping. Return by flight to Reykjavík. Private transfer to a downtown hotel in Iceland’s capital, where you spend 2 nights.

Day 7: BLUE LAGOON & REYKJAVÍK Bus transfer to the Blue Lagoon where you can relax in its rejuvenating mineral rich geothermal water, believed to have healing powers. The afternoon is free at leisure to explore Reykjavík, Iceland's capital, or enjoy optional spa treatments at the Blue Lagoon.
