Australian horseman Guy McLean to perform

T

hings will get western with an Australian flair at the 2016 Trinity Valley Exposition Fair and Rodeo. Debuting at the rodeo is the award winning Australian-born horseman, Guy McLean. McLean’s talent as an equine performer is artistic display of horse and trainer. Rodeo fans will be treated to his classic touch and team of horses on Oct. 20-22.

According to his bio, McLean was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in 1975, the youngest of five strapping boys in an inner city suburb, thousands of miles from where and who he is today. The McLean family moved to Hervey Bay, Queensland, where they purchased a 1,600-acre property and formed “Susan River Homestead” Holiday Ranch resort. His parents wanted a life

for their young family away from the city streets, with countless opportunities to prosper and grow, and it was here that McLean was sat on his first horse as a 16-monthold. He has been riding solo since he was 4 years old. Rodeo fans will be treated to a PRCA Xtreme Bull Riding on Oct. 19 and will see a sneak peak of the Aussie’s talent.

Children walking, riding on a bicycle or in a wagon, or on a small or large float are just a few examples of what spectators might see. The TVE’s baby parade continues to be one of the longest running parades in Texas. Parade entries will be judged on a variety of creativity.

Mutton bustin’ to entertain crowds at rodeo Brave young cowboys and cowgirls will take to the arena Tuesday, Oct. 18 for a chance of glory, and some fun, in the annual mutton bustin’ contest. A fan favorite since 2004, 40 local children will climb up on a sheep, hold on tight, and hope for a decent time that will send them further in the competition. The initial competition is set for Tuesday, Oct. 18, with all 40 contestants riding 5:30-7:30 p.m. The top 20 from Tuesday move on with 10 riding on Thursday and 10 on Friday. The top six from Thursday and Friday will battle for the top title Saturday night after the steer wrestling event. Contestants will shoot

out of the small chute and a vast majority will fall off in less than eight seconds. Six seconds or longer is considered a good ride, and the competition is just as popular with parents as it is with children.

Children ages 3-5 compete, and for their safety, are issued a vest and helmet by TVE. There are height and weight restrictions on the children who participate, so no harm is done to the sheep. With a week filled with

bull and bronc riding, the mutton bustin’ competition could be considered a stepping stone for a bigger future in the rodeo industry someday. Mutton bustin’ started in Texas more than 20 years ago.

It’s time to start perfecting those rubs, sauces and more as the Trinity Valley Exposition Fair and Rodeo’s BBQ cook-off competition is accepting teams. The cook-off contest once again will have teams testing their culinary skills on the first weekend of the fair’s nine-day run on Oct. 1415. Teams will be judged on several different categories including fajitas, ribs, brisket, chicken, chef ’s entrée, chef ’s des-

sert, beans and margaritas. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to the top placing teams in each category. All teams who are interested had to register by Oct. 7. The entry fee per team is $120. A mandatory chief ’s cook meeting will be held on Friday, Oct. 14 at 5 p.m. The TVE Fair and Rodeo runs from Oct. 14 -22. For more information on the fair’s schedule or ticket information visit tvefair.com.

Wolfe is a country singer and songwriter. His bio page on his website defines country music as... “it was, is and always should be, with boots firmly standing on the bedrock of tradition and an eye focused on taking it into the future.” From small town Oklahoma, Wolfe has performed on dance floors and honky tonks in Texas and Oklahoma to Music Row in Nashville. Wolfe’s music is burning up Texas charts. He’s had six consecutive Top 10 singles including “Let

Dusty Brighteyes Neuman

A Country Boy Love You,” “That Girl In Texas,” “I Don’t Care,” “It All Happened In A Honky Tonk,” “The Only Time You Call,” and “What Are You Doin’ Right Now.” Ward, a Houston native and country music traditionalist, was exposed at an early age to old gospel hymns he sang in church. Riding in the high school Rodeo Circuit as a teenager, Ward got his first taste of performing, singing hits from Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard and George Jones. Encouraged by the crowd feedback, he put together his first band in 2003 and started paying his dues at local honky tonks. Ward released his third album, “Promises”, in July 2012. Neuman calls Dayton his hometown. “I’ve always looked up to guys like Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Lyle Lovett, and Robert Earl Keen,” Neuman writes on his website. “I think being from Texas, it’s almost mandatory to have these guys as your mu-

sical influence. To write with as much conviction, sincerity and feeling as Townes is something I’ve always strived for. Music is supposed to make you feel something, if it doesn’t, it’s worthless.” Neuman combines his folksy upbringing with songs about love, hate and more in his latest self-titled album. Red, white wine to flow at TVE tasting The wine will be flowing at the Trinity Valley Exposition Fair and Rodeo’s Wine Tasting on Friday, Oct. 14. Wine connoisseurs and novices will be treated to an array of reds, whites and other blends. This is the second year the wine tasting will help kick off the fair’s activities. TVE’s Fair and Ro-

deo will run from Oct. 14-22. This year’s wine event will include 12 wines including two that are produced here in Texas. “Last year’s event was a success, and we are looking forward to having this event continue to grow and attract more members of our community who may not typically

attend TVE,” said Robbie Herrington, TVE president. Tickets are $30 each and will be available at Sterling Realty, Capital Title and the TVE office. A limited number of tickets will be for sale. “We are working hard on getting a good wine selection. I think the Wine Tasting event is

something people really wanted, and I am thrilled we are able to do it,” Wine Tasting Chairman Jim Sterling said. Some tasty treats will be offered. Festivities run from 6-8 p.m. and will be held in the TVE hospitality room. For more information on the wine tasting visit tvefair.com.

PRCA continues rodeo history in Liberty County Rodeos have a long history in Liberty County, and this year’s three-day PRCA Rodeo will attract fans from a large area. The PRCA Rodeo will take the arena at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20-22. Rodeos have called Liberty County home off and on since 1921, but it was not until E.W. Boyt built a $10,000 arena on the Trinity Valley Exposition grounds in 1940 that the rodeos were sanctioned nationally. The new arena became a member of the Rodeo Association of America and most of the professional riders were the forerunners for what

Today, the PRCA boasts roughly 7,000 members with more than 5,000 of those being current contestants. It is the largest, and oldest, rodeo-sanctioning body in the world. The organization also strives to improve working conditions for contestants and monitors livestock welfare to boost entertainment value and promoting sponsors.
