“BASILIKOS”

After having tasted the welcome treatment of “raki” (traditional Greek drink) and delicious dip with crouton, you will have the chance to enjoy the tasty “mezedes” (small appetizers), along with special seafood and meat dishes, making your own culinary combinations. Fresh fine fish, sea bass with eggplant purée, sardines stuffed with capers and Florina pepper, raki and mackerel flavored lentil salad, Russian seafood salad with fine shrimp and surimi, as well as delicious meat dishes. You will have the chance to choose from a wide variety of meat delicacies, with neck chops and pancettas to stand out. Raki and rakomelo (raki with honey) are the protagonists, along with top-quality tsipouro and renowned wine labels.

Very few combinations in life are as perfect as beer and rock music. Maybe brick walls as a backdrop to a classic wood bar with leather stools could be added to this short list of ideal pairings and perhaps the effect of some genuine hard rock and metal tunes over a shot of bourbon. And if all those combos sound like the bare essentials to a rocker’s life, just keep wandering around the stone-paved alleys of Ladadika, till you find the ultimate rock and metal joint this town has to offer! Dizzy Dolls has been building its reputation upon the principles of true rock attitude for almost 16 years now, having set its “headquarters” in an old, stone and brick two-storey establishment in Ladadika. With a really classic décor and a genuine rock-bar feel, its long, wooden bar can easily accommodate big cheerful parties of rocker chicks right next to some lonesome biker types. But apart from being the indisputable epicentre of the local hard rock and metal scene, Dizzy Dolls is also a true gem when it comes to beer. An extensive catalogue of local and imported draft and bottled beers will tempt any true brew-lover. And if brands like Henninger, Kaiser and Guinness don’t sound enticing enough, perhaps you should try some of the Greek beers, exclusively supplied by local microbreweries! And since the music is great and everything is served at really low prices, be prepared to lose hours upon hours at this joint.

It’s one of the prettiest areas of Thessaloniki with many traditional taverns, cafes and restaurants, with old houses, small alleys and beautiful views on the city and on the Thermaikos Gulf. Most restaurants are located on the east side of Ano Poli, near the Portara (Great door) area. If you find yourself on the northwest side, don’t miss to visit Tsinari. The name derives from a plane tree (in Turkish cinar) that grows in the area and the namesake cafe located from the 19th century on the corner of Clio and Alexandra Papadopoulou st. Characteristic of the region is that in this we find many old houses and shops. Opposite the restaurant there is a fountain from the Ottoman period, while just over one another to the point that existed until 1925 Tsinarli Mosque. The area was in the 20s and reception center for refugees to find this many refugee houses built next to castles. By choosing Ano Poli you will indulge in a delicious meal and watch the sunset with a glass of retsina in your hand.
