We welcome everyone irrespective of their experience, to study at GSA with the Continuing Education Department. Whether you are a beginner wishing to explore a new found skill or interest, a student intending to apply for Further or Higher Education needing assistance with a portfolio, or whether you are an established artist who wishes to develop an existing talent, we are more than happy to discuss your requirements and find the right course for you. This year we are pleased to announce the return of many of our courses to the Mackintosh Building – globally recognised as Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s masterwork. BACK IN THE MACK The Department’s drawing and painting courses will take place in Mackintosh’s original painting studios which have been recently restored to enhance the original features from Mackintosh’s designs. GSA FACT/
The Mackintosh Building was one of the first public buildings in Glasgow to have electricity and an early form of air conditioning.
Although much is protected, as you walk along the corridors passing one of the UK’s finest collection of casts, look out for Glasgow’s coat-of-arms in the central staircase, Mackintosh’s whiplash Art Nouveau lines in the ironwork and stonework reliefs around the School, his signature stained glass rosebuds in doorways and the decorative timbers above you. Take in the views from the Loggia and ‘Hen Run’ on the top floor and as you leave from the main entrance you will see two figures, each holding a rose, who act as guardians to the School.
