Glasgow Science Centre is an educational charity and our education programme is at the core of our mission. Each of the structured learning sessions is carefully aligned with the objectives of the Curriculum for Excellence and our overall offer has been approved by HMIe. New this year is an expanded choice of films at Cineworld IMAX, with a new ‘on demand’ slot for early visits. We’re repeating our popular and free teacher evenings in October 2014 and January 2015 and our partnership programme brings you and your students new opportunities to explore careers in STEM, generally and in specific industry sectors. We may be able to support a visit financially and our ‘On Tour’ outreach programme covers the length and breadth of Scotland, bringing science to your school and community no matter how remote. We look forward to seeing you during the 14/15 academic year.

Your students can find out about how their personality relates to potential careers and virtually ‘try on’ outfits associated with different jobs in science.
SANTA’S STARRY ADVENTURE Using the stars as our guide we will follow Santa around the world as he delivers Christmas gifts. Help him find his way back to the North Pole using the North Star.

HIDDEN UNIVERSE 3D If you have previously enjoyed Hubble P7 – S4 then you will love Hidden Universe. This is the most up to date 3D film that shows the depths of the Universe in stunning images and colours. For the first time see the farthest reaches of time and space and meet some of the astronomers that delivered these images. BORN TO BE WILD 3D Pupils learned a lot from the Planetarium and the IMAX. They now know about the constellations and the International Space Station Teacher, Glasgow Academy

SPACE STATION 3D Space Station is the story of 16 nations P4 – S4 coming together to perform the greatest engineering feat in history. Students will learn about how the station was built, what it is like to live in space, what it means to be an astronaut or engineer and what the experiments on the Station teach us about our world. With the UK sending its first ever astronaut, Tim Peake to the ISS in 2015 there has never been a better time to engage students with this incredible feat. Science | Planet Earth | Space
UNDER THE SEA 3D Climate change and the effect on the P4 – S6 natural environment is uppermost in all our minds. Here you can explore the wonders of the most exotic and isolated undersea locations on Earth. Your students will experience faceto-face encounters with some of the most mysterious and stunning creatures of the sea in amazing immersive 3D and see how their environment is changing. TO THE ARCTIC 3D In one of Earth’s harshest P4 – S4 environments see the effect man is having and the resulting challenges facing its wildlife. ISLAND OF LEMURS: MADAGASCAR 3D

This film highlights the tireless efforts P4 – S4 of trailblazing scientist Dr. Patricia C. Wright and her life long mission to help these strange and adorable creatures survive in the modern world. Captured with IMAX 3D cameras, the film takes audiences on a spectacular journey to the remote and wondrous world of Madagascar, where lemurs arrived millions of years ago as castaways. They’ve since evolved into hundreds of diverse species, but are now highly endangered.
ABOUT THE CINEWORLD IMAX® IMAX presents crystal clear images on a giant screen. So immersive is the 3D that students will reach out and try to touch the images that surround them. Its an incredibly stimulating way to start topical discussions or to consolidate your existing studies. Watch out for special lectures and events that will build upon these incredible films. In 2015 we will be installing laser projection to make the images bigger, brighter and even more inspiring.

WORLD SPACE WEEK 4th-12th October 2014 Celebrate World Space Week by P4 – S2 joining us for our space themed programme of activities! Get hands on in the Lab and explore how we can use Invisible Science to view deep space, or join us in the Forces science show where we investigate the forces needed to get a rocket into space! Stargaze in our world-class planetarium or experience a multimedia musical feast amongst the stars with guest presenters Let’s Talk About Space. Pupils will be engaged by our live science show Who Needs Science? and our interactive careers exhibition My World of Work from Skills Development Scotland as part of National Oil & Gas Skills Week. SCOTTISH WATER Glasgow Science Centre and Scottish Water are working together to create an exciting 3 year programme that will offer your pupils the opportunity to participate in a hands on, interactive Science Show and Workshop during their visit. In addition, your pupils can talk to real water scientists from Scottish Water, learn about the work they do and see water science in action at the Making it Clear event in March.

ABOUT OPAL The Open Air Laboratories (OPAL) is an environmental project which aims to connect children and adults with the natural environment. We give everybody the chance to explore nature through our six surveys, which investigate the health of the UK environment. Our surveys have been designed by scientists, to be carried out by you and your class. Our team of Community Scientists can tailor activities to fit around the Curriculum for Excellence, to help you meet you outdoor education targets. From bug hunts to pond dipping, pupils will learn basic survey techniques and have the chance to contribute real scientific data to a UK wide environmental report. Be our guest, free of charge, before your pupil’s visit and explore what’s on offer at a time that suits you. Free teacher visits must be pre-booked and ID is required on the day of visit. The purpose of free teacher visits is to let you experience Glasgow Science Centre so you can consider an educational visit for your students. A fair use policy will be applied.
