KEYSTONE MARKET RESEARCH LAUNCHES INAUGURAL UK FENESTRATION MARKET STATISTICS REPORT & FORECAST
Comprehensive market analysis provides crucial insights and forecasts for the UK fenestration industry.
Keystone Market Research is proud to announce the release of the first comprehensive UK uPVC fenestration market report since 2017. This extensive study marks a significant milestone for the industry, filling the critical gap left by the cessation of annual market reports from Palmer Market Research and D&G Consulting.
Covering the full spectrum of the UK fenestration market, the report offers in-depth analysis of market trends by material, end-market, and product styles. For the first time, the study accurately quantifies the volume changes in the uPVC market during the pandemic years and provides a complete overview of the impact on the industry. Drawing from extensive collaboration with companies across the sector and cross-referenced, reliable third-party data sources, the report also includes market forecasts up to 2026, allowing businesses to develop well-informed strategies for the future.
“I am delighted to release this market report, which is the culmination of over a year of dedicated work and collaboration with industry partners,” said Charlotte Hawkes, Director of
Keystone Market Research. “Having established Keystone specifically to address the industry’s need for reliable, detailed market data, I am grateful for the support and guidance I’ve received from so many, particularly from uPVC systems companies and David Amos, previously of D&G Consulting. This report builds upon D&G’s trusted methodology, which I’ve then expanded on to capture the evolving complexities of today’s fenestration market.”
The report highlights key trends shaping the UK fenestration industry, such as shifts in preferences toward decorative and sustainable products, evolving product ranges, and the competitive
landscape across different materials. The detailed forecasts for market volumes and values from 2024 to 2026 provide a strategic outlook for industry leaders to navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Charlotte added: “This project has been a deeply personal one for me, driven by my own experiences of the challenges in obtaining accurate market data for strategic planning. I hope this report serves as a valuable tool for industry professionals, offering a reliable foundation of data and analysis. I am committed to continuing this work annually, with plans to expand our range of market reports to further support the industry.”
Keystone Market Research extends its thanks to all the participating companies, with special appreciation to David Amos for his invaluable insights and support.
The 2024 Edition of the UK uPVC Fenestration Market Statistics Report & Forecast is now available for purchase on the Keystone Market Research website. For full details and to secure your copy, please visit www.keystonemr.co.uk.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT AND THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO
It’s all getting a bit confusing. Lots of talk of the need for housebuilding, with ambitious targets, then reports of a lowering in the productivity in the housebuilding sector and a serious skills shortage. Then, of course, lots more talk about skills initiatives, and encouraging words from the government, but not a lot of action on that front. It may be churlish to criticise so early in a government’s life but there appears to be plenty of blaming of others, cuts or abolishing of grants or benefits, but very little positive news.
In an open letter to the trade, Emplas’ Group Managing Director, Ryan Johnson, talks a lot of sense. He says: “The majority of home improvements take place within the first 12-months after a house move. If the housing market is static because property prices are too high and out of reach because of under supply, recovery will be slower.”
“Building new homes and most importantly, affordable new homes, is consequently critical for our own industry in generating direct opportunities in new build but also driving them indirectly in retail, which remains the foundation for window and door sales as a whole.”
He talks about the planning issues and how the constant delays in planning approvals and appeals, for any number of reasons – I remember a well-known system house struggling for planning approval to extend their manufacturing facilities after someone had claimed, rightly or wrongly, spotting a horned newt! Ryan highlights the importance of the small housebuilder and not just the nationally known companies and the need to utilise those plots where a homeowner is prepared to sell off a portion of land and the need to make planning easier and quicker. It sounds as if the government’s plans have merit whereby local authorities will lose their rights to grant planning approval if they don’t speed the whole process up. We’re certainly into interesting times and my natural cynicism directed towards politicians in general should, perhaps be curbed for the moment!
Writing this prompted me to look back at some wise words from Sternfenster’s Mike Parczuk just after the election: “As a nation, we need to stop viewing our glass as half empty, and to develop a positive can-do attitude. And that starts with companies like yours and mine. Not only is the window industry a barometer for how well the economy is performing, but it is also a bridge between homeowners and the construction industry, feeding into a multibillion-pound machine that helps drive the economy in the UK.”
“And we are the ones who keep that machine going. It is up to us to invest in our people, in our factories, in product development and in our customers. A general election is a once in a five-year event – we are the ones who keep the economy moving on a day-to-day basis.” All very true and, being a half full kind of guy, (probably something to do with age!), I recognise the need to show some positivity!
In thinking about planning, I have a little issue at the moment and I shall be interested to see how it plays out. To cut a long story short, Champion Towers is suffering from such a low water flow that filling a kettle takes an inordinately long time. My local water authority says the pressure is fine because the old pipes are so corroded that the small amount of water comes through at an approved pressure rating – I need a new supply from a plastic piped main supply out in the road. Yes, big money, but the bit that gets me is the local authority wants £490 to allow the road to be closed. You may say that’s fair enough but when one of my neighbours had the self -same problem the contractors said they didn’t need to shut the road and they whipped the new supply in with no problem or inconvenience to traffic. Did my neighbours get their £490 back from the local authority? Nah! It probably went in the Christmas Party fund. So, I’m planning to have a street party and family cricket match when the road is closed and make sure I get my money’s worth!
Remembering that I’m trying to be ‘glass half full’ there’s a couple of visits I have been looking forward to. Having had an early look at RegaLead’s new Engineered Door Components’ ‘UPVC doors re-imagined’ I went to their Open Day later this month and the report is in this edition of Glass News. The RegaLead gang always have something good to see and my visit had nothing to do with the amazing hospitality and the pizza ovens….definitely not something to miss! Also Comp Door had a Next Generation Product Launch at the Space Centre near Leicester. I really wanted to get to that event as I am intrigued that they are joining with Kubu for this launch but a hospital visit prevented me from going. I wonder what it is!
With the publishing of the Grenfell Phase 2 report we are reminded of the many failures that led to this tragedy. The part that directly involves this industry is the issue of fire doors and the importance of maintaining these life-saving systems according to manufacturers’ guidelines.
Nicola John, Managing Director of Fire Door Maintenance (FDM) part of UAP is advocating for a central register of qualified operatives—inspectors, maintainers, and installers—so that we can ensure fire doors consistently meet the highest safety standards and prevent future tragedies. “It’s something” she says, “ the industry direly needs, and FDM is bridging the gap, providing holistic training for the industry in order to make this a reality.”

REGAL HARDWARE AND THE RESIDENCE COLLECTION: A PERFECT PAIRING
Regal Hardware stands out as the epitome of elegance and authenticity – and with an endorsement from The Residence Collection for its prestigious timber alternative windows and doors, it is the go-to choice for fabricators.
The rise of flush sash systems in recent years has sparked a revolution in the industry, with homeowners increasingly demanding windows and doors that combine modern performance with traditional aesthetics.
When Window Ware introduced its Regal Hardware range in 2018, the timing couldn’t have been better. As the popularity of flush sash windows and doors soared, Regal Hardware’s fan base grew, and it soon became the first choice for fabricators seeking to elevate their finished product.
Rob Vaughan, the leading independent UK window and door hardware provider’s Product Manager, explained: "When we introduced Regal Hardware six years ago, we knew we were onto something special. The market was crying out for hardware that could match the authentic look of flush sash systems, particularly for period properties and conservation areas. Regal Hardware filled that gap perfectly. Not only did it look the part, but it delivered on quality, performance and choice too, offering a striking array of designs and finishes.”
A RINGING ENDORSEMENT
The Residence Collection – creators of premium timber replacement glazing system, R9, R7 and R2 – has officially endorsed Regal as their recommended hardware choice, an endorsement that serves as a testament to the exceptional quality and suitability of Regal Hardware for high-end flush sash systems.
Sarah Hitchings, sales and marketing director of The Residence Collection comments: ‘The Regal Hardware collection has been developed with Window Ware from the outset through a well thought out programme of design, testing and development as our trusted development partner. The result is a premium range of handles, stay and pegs in a vast array of finishes including the on-trend Brushed Copper and Rose
Gold options perfect for The Residence Collection’s R9, R7 and R2 systems.”
For fabricators, this endorsement provides a clear signal: when it comes to crafting Residence Collection windows and doors, Regal Hardware is the way to go. The range offers a perfect match for the system's period aesthetics while ensuring smooth operation and longlasting performance.
A HIGH-END BRAND FOR A HIGH-END PRODUCT
But it's not just about aesthetics. The Regal Hardware range is engineered to meet the exacting standards of modern fenestration. Each piece is crafted from high-quality materials and undergoes rigorous testing to ensure longevity and smooth operation.
The range includes an extensive selection of window and door furniture. From elegant matching stays and pegs to dummy and working butt hinges, every piece is designed to
complement each other, allowing for a cohesive look across all windows and doors.
"One of the key strengths of our Regal range is its versatility," said Rob. “Regal Hardware has options to suit contemporary and character dwellings alike.
Homeowners who invest in new flush sash windows for their property often want matching doors installed at the same time, so having a full complement of coordinated heritage hardware simplifies sourcing and makes life easier for fabricators.”
SUPPLYING MADE EASY
Regal Hardware is a complete suite of fully coordinated furniture, so fabricators can reliably source a full set of monkey tail or pear drop window handles and butt hinges, pegs and stays, as well as door handles from a single source in Window Ware, who also provide a range of eye-catching brochures, fliers, high-res imagery and pop-up display stands to support promotion.
Rob Vaughan, Product Manager
And with consistently quick turnaround times and extensive inventory, fabricators can count on Window Ware to deliver what they need, when they need it."
“For fabricators looking to create exceptional Residence Collection windows and doors that truly stand out in the market, the choice is clear,” added Rob. “Regal Hardware from Window Ware offers the perfect blend of authentic style, superior quality, and industry seal of approval.”
WINTER FUEL CUTS REQUIRE URGENT DRIVE FOR HOME ENERGY IMPROVEMENTS, SAYS FMB
The debate in Parliament this week to cut Winter Fuel Allowance demonstrates the urgency of a nationwide retrofitting programme to upgrade the energy efficiency of UK homes, according to the Federation of Master Builders (FMB).
Brian Berry, Chief Executive of the FMB, commented: “MPs have taken the decision to cut winter fuel payments to pensioners, but what this really demonstrates is that fuel bills in this country have reached an unmanageable level. The UK’s existing housing stock are the oldest and least efficient in Europe. We need to see the Government put forward a bold plan to retrofit at least five million homes to make them greener and more energy efficient as an urgent
priority. This will be crucial to making people’s bills affordable.”
Berry continued: “The UK Government has made a legal commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. In order to achieve this, we need to decarbonise our homes and buildings. There are currently eight million lofts that need insulating, five million uninsulated cavity walls, and 20 million uninsulated floors that need upgrading if we are to reach these targets. The new Government have made a strong start with proposals to build new homes, but we need to see a nationwide programme rolled out to support local builders to install insulation, double glazing and new heating technologies across the country.”
STERNFENSTER LAUNCHES NEW INTERNAL GLAZING SYSTEM
Sternfenster has launched the ID30 Internal Door and fixed glazing system, which promises to open up exciting new opportunities for window companies looking to extend their influence to the inside of the property.
The ID30 Internal Door and fixed glazing system creates bespoke interior partitions, dividers, or glass walls, which separates spaces while giving an open-plan feel.
“The ID30 system is definitely the right product at the right time,” Sternfenster’s Sales Director Nathan Court said. “It perfectly solves two apparently conflicting trends.
“On the one hand, we want to open up our properties and allow more light to flow through the interior, while on the other we want to partition off areas for specific functions, such as offices, dining or play areas.
“The ID30 Internal Door and fixed glazing system achieves both these aims with ease, while adding a modern design flair.”
ID30 is a slimline product, and can create both heritage and contemporary designs in a number of configurations.
Significantly, using just one door profile, you can give homeowners the option of either hinged, pivot, sliding, or bi-folding configurations. This means you can meet your customers’ design aspirations with ease, while allowing easy access between rooms.
“There is a high demand for room dividers, screens, and doors that separate living spaces without compromising natural light, while maintaining the popular Art-Deco or Industrial styling,” Nathan said. “The ID30 can be used for anything from room dividers and lobby entrances to shower screens and in-kitchen designs.
ENDURANCE® DOORS MAKES SIX FIGURE INVESTMENT INTO EMPLOYEE WELFARE
Endurance® Doors has shown further evidence of its commitment to the utmost standards of employee health, safety and wellbeing.
Closely following the business’ recent announcement that it has secured ISO 45001 accreditation, it has now confirmed a six figure investment into new infrastructure that will enhance the working environment for its production team.
Specifically, the manufacturer of solid, secure and stylish composite doors has installed a new extraction system at its main manufacturing facility in Brigg, North Lincolnshire. The state-of-the-art system effectively removes fine dust particles, which are naturally created during the doorset production process, from the air.
As well as improving air quality, the system’s ability to remove this airborne dust, which has the potential to be combustible, also helps to increase fire protection.
Additional fire protection stems from strategically located, fully automated isolation valves which can prevent the spread of fire through the system.
Plus, as a further benefit, the newly installed system also helps to reduce ambient noise levels.
Commenting, Stephen Nadin, managing director at Endurance® Doors, said: “As a business, Endurance owes its success to a multitude of different and diverse factors.
“This includes a belief in the highest standards, the use of advanced technology and the many uniquely human
“What’s more, we fully support our customers during the sales process, giving them the tools to convert more leads,” Nathan said. “These include our virtual showroom, which walks homeowners through the customisation process, including the vast array of colours on offer.
“Our bespoke EasySales software then allows you to create professional looking quotes, which dovetails neatly with Sternfenster-Plus (SF+) and EasyAdmin, giving you full visibility of the production process, while managing the project right up to customer sign-off.”
EasyAdmin also allows window installation companies to have complete oversight of their profit and loss. This information is updated daily and allows business owners to see the health of their accounts in real time.
EasyAdmin works with SF+, which improves communication with customers and gives them greater insight into the fabricator’s manufacturing capacity.
“Not only does the ID30 open-up new opportunities inside the home, it does so using skills you already have,” Nathan concluded. “All while receiving full support from Sternfenster.”

qualities of our teams such as their passion, pride and professionalism. As our people genuinely are our greatest asset, we want to ensure they enjoy a working environment where they feel considered, valued and able to perform to the best of their abilities.

Sioned Yates from newly launched Access Marketing outlines the biggest frustrations that business owners face in making marketing drive revenue
Sioned Yates has just launched Access Marketing, a new kind of marketing consultancy offering strategic marketing advice and practical marketing support, which is focused directly on sales generation.
Having worked in senior level construction marketing for more than 30 years, with big name brands such as AluK, REHAU, Lafarge Plasterboard (now Siniat), Brandon Hire and most recently Whitesales, Sioned says she has identified the four biggest frustrations that businesses have in accessing and then applying the kind of marketing support which ultimately drives revenue:
1. Business owners don’t have the time to focus on marketing when they’re too busy running their business, but recognise they are missing opportunities as a result.
2. They don’t have the budget, or their business is too small to justify employing a full time marketing director, but they can’t find someone with specific industry knowledge and expertise to help them in a part time or consultancy role.
3. They outsource their marketing to an agency and then don’t have the time or the experience to manage and direct the agency and are disappointed with the outcome and the cost.
4. They employ a junior in-house team to deliver marketing communications campaigns, but they are disconnected from sales, so the impact of the campaigns is limited.
In response, Sioned has structured Access Marketing so that it tackles all of these frustrations, and provides business owners with a raft of options to suit all requirements and all budgets.
Sioned Yates
She says: “I’m offering something different to the established marcomms agencies in this industry. My skills are strategic, planning and creative thinking and management. I will come into businesses either on a project or part time basis and carry out sales and marketing audits, help them create strategic marketing plans, and then support the roll out of those plans –either by managing their existing agency or by bringing in my own network of suppliers.
“For some clients, the roll out might be a whole new customer onboarding strategy, for others it might be a repositioning in the market and a new brand launch. There will be no one size fits all approach. The priority will always be to drive sales revenue, so my input will be making recommendations and creating plans which help do that.
“I have worked with some of the biggest names in this industry and I know what works – and what doesn’t. Working on a project or part time basis also means my clients get all the advantages of a senior level marketing director – without any of the associated salary and benefits costs.”
Sioned says that one of the key areas that clients want help with is in acting as a conduit between their business and their agency. She adds: “Too often, businesses think they can take care of their marketing simply by outsourcing it to an agency, when in fact they need to carefully manage and direct that agency and constantly monitor and evaluate results to get any real payback on their investment.
“This is best done by someone like me with senior level experience – who can then mentor more junior in-house team members so that they learn to take on the role themselves over time.
“Similarly, I can guide in-house marketing teams in building workable relationships with sales teams and recommending new work patterns which put sales and revenue generation at the centre.”
As well as providing ongoing consultancy support, Sioned can work directly with clients on short term planning and event support, such as exhibitions and sales conferences.

PREMIER ARCHES MAINTAINS 98%+ OTIF DESPITE SOARING PRODUCTION
Premier Arches, the UK’s leading manufacturer of arched and angled frames, continues to set industry standards with its exceptional on-time, in-full (OTIF) delivery rate of over 98%, even as production surpasses 150 frames per week.
The achievement underscores the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction in the face of both increasing demand and complexity, with the company’s success further highlighted by its impressive 98% + right-first-time frame rate, with very few re-makes required.
Specialising in uPVC profile bending and bespoke window and door frames across a wide range of different systems, including popular profiles like Residence 9, Rehua and Liniar, and manufacturing complete products, including both curved sashes and outer frames, fabricators and installers can take on more complex projects with the confidence that they are going to get quality products delivered when they need them.
Sean Greenall, Premier Arches’ Managing Director, said of the company’s outstanding performance: “We take dependability very seriously at Premier Arches and despite getting busier and producing increasingly technically challenging products, we have strived to maintain more than 98% of frames arriving on time, in full on delivery dates confirmed at the point of order.
“This is a testament to our skilled craftsmen at our state-of-the-art manufacturing base
in St Helens and our experienced customer service team.”
This level of precision and accuracy aligns perfectly with Premier Arches’ exceptional levels of customer care and support and manufacturing quality.
“Our manufacturing processes mean we can produce high-quality, bespoke frames efficiently, allowing our customers to say ‘yes’ to high-value projects they might have previously turned down, knowing they will get bespoke frames on time and to the highest standards,” added Sean.
“As the industry becomes more competitive and our customers need to get ahead, our commitment to maintaining high OTIF rates, order accuracy and technical standards, even as production volumes increase, will allow us to continue to support them and keep them happy.”

EQUANS SHOWS SHELFORCE SUPPORT WITH SIGNIFICANT UPGRADE
Leading uPVC, window, door and fire door manufacturer and supplier Shelforce has received a significant upgrade to its headquarters, courtesy of energy and regeneration specialists Equans.
The refurbishment at Shelforce’s base in Erdington, Birmingham includes new signage, aluminium doors in the factory, and a revamp of the office, lobby area, and restrooms, and comes off the back of Shelforce’s prestigious Kings Awards for Enterprise in Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility) win last year.
A delighted Howard Trotter, Business Manager at Shelforce, commented: “We’re thrilled with the fresh, modern look Equans has given our facility. The new signage really makes us stand out, and the revamped office space has significantly improved our working environment.
“Equans has done an outstanding job, and we can’t thank them enough for their support. This gesture underscores the valued partnership and great long-term relationship we’ve built with Equans over the years.”
John O’Leary, Head of Operations at Equans,
commented on the collaboration: “We have worked with Shelforce for over 12 years now, and they have huge experience when it comes to delivering local authority building projects. The quality of products they supply are of the highest spec.
“They offer a hands-on, fully comprehensive approach and provide in-depth knowledge of the options available to satisfy strict and unique planning requirements.
“To win the Kings Awards for Enterprise was a wonderful achievement, and their approach and commitment to inclusion, diversity, and delivering real change are values that line up with our own. Shelforce always go above and beyond for us on our projects, so we wanted to do the same for them and it was a pleasure to help them
with the refurbishment.”
The two companies have worked closely together on numerous projects with Shelforce supplying uPVC windows and doors that help bring properties up to energy efficiency requirements and provide warmer homes for residents.
This collaboration has been instrumental in ensuring the successful delivery of building projects in Birmingham, particularly in meeting energy efficiency requirements and Howard added: “We have a valued partnership and a great long-term relationship with Equans and we are looking forward to continuing to work with them in the future.”

The company’s new website, which is viewable at www. uws.co.uk, has been developed as part of the business’ wider rebranding. As well as featuring an updated look, the new site offers more information and greater functionality than ever before.
Mir Patel, from Unique’s senior management team, said: “Unique is using our ongoing rebrand to rethink and relaunch a number of our marketing assets in line with our focus on continuous improvement. “Rather than simply reskinning our old site, we wanted to identify and implement features capable of delivering maximum benefit to our customers
in the trade, new build and commercial sectors.”
Visitors to the new site can explore and discover in-depth information about Unique’s continually growing range.
This includes systems and products from well-known brands like Eurocell, AluK, WarmCore® and CORTIZO as the fabricator’s own brand products such as Unifold bifold doors.
Visitors to the new site can also learn more about Unique’s impressive credentials and latest developments in areas such as sustainability and corporate social responsibility through case studies and a regularly updated news page.
In addition, the relaunched site offers a number of valuable resources such as downloadable order forms, installation guides,

These videos provide information on products, past projects and the sales support initiatives offered by Unique like its dedicated showroom. They also offer a look behind the scenes of Unique’s operations and give an insight into what it’s like to work for the company.
“The launch of our new website is far from the end of its development” adds Mir. “It will be an ever-evolving piece of digital real estate that sees ongoing additions and enhancements. We want to ensure its continued relevance and value so that users have a reason to revisit it on a regular and repeat basis.”

AN OPEN DAY NOT TO BE MISSED!
Joining Regalead’s Open Day at their Urban Manufacturing/ ColorSpray Network Trade Counter and Training Centre at Manchester’s Roundthorn Industrial Estate, Glass News’ Editor, Chris Champion, had the opportunity to view new products and meet suppliers as well as the many RegaLead customers.
For a 10.00 hours start to the Open Day, rolling up at a respectable 30 minutes late seemed like the polite thing to do but on arrival, the place was buzzing! RegaLead Open Days are more than that – they’re an event, and those in the know make the most of the day and get there early. The coffee truck was queued with those looking for a caffeine fix to kickstart the day and this wasn’t any old coffee stand. In fact, asking for a bog-standard latte looked pretty ordinary against the designer brews with soy, oat milk and a whole range of syrups. Armed with a suitable beverage there was much to see. Understandably, the showroom displaying the ‘UPVC Doors Re-imagined’ was a popular haunt for those looking for something completely different.
These are UPVC doors the like of which I certainly haven’t seen before. This affords the fabricator the opportunity to make their own doors with an Engineered Door Components’ kit, the new brand within the RegaLead family.
With the fabricator able to utilise their normal profile to make up the outerframe and sashes, the measurements for infill panels, decorative glass and additional mouldings are ordered via the Engineered Door Components’ portal, and they are delivered within 7 days, ready to be beaded into the door. The choice of foils appears to be never ending and you can even choose
the make-up of the panel and specify either 28mm, 36mm or 44mm thickness and the XPS foam, 4mm marine grade plywood and 2mm HPL (High Pressure Laminate) as standard, although you could have optional specifications including aluminium for additional security.
These are decorative panels and have a wide range of looks from very traditional right through ultra-modern and contemporary, and feature raised and fielded panels that use aluminium profiles and additional foam to fill the void beneath, providing the timber door look. Also, there are bolection mouldings that are face fixed. The fact that

fabricators can make and offer their own range of UPVC panels without the need to stock additional materials and, importantly, have no wastage from cut-offs…the panels are made-to—measure…obviously generated much interest and the showroom was pretty full throughout the day with the RegaLead team showing off the product and explaining the kit concept.
But this UPVC panel isn’t the only new thing on offer and I was very interested in the SprayGrain that was being shown. I tagged on to Master Glass GB’s Mark Bowskill who was looking to be able to replicate Renolit foiled profile with a GRP skinned composite door. Getting a match is notoriously difficult but the RegaLead guys were able to show how a three stage process of painting the door, putting the patina into the grain of the skin, wiping through and then sealing with a two part polyurethane varnish provides an answer.
“How many colours can you offer?” I asked. “Infinite” said the eternal salesman, Paul Edwards – and his claim was backed up by

the technical boys! There is absolutely no reason why the technique shouldn’t be used for wild and outlandish colours and not just to match the various timber finishes offered by Renolit or Hornschuh.
When it comes to glass, and particularly decorative glass, RegaLead never stand still. There were new ranges of both traditional and contemporary designs on offer and hardware was on display too. The very

impressive Ultion showroom van was there from Brisant and Coastal were showing their range, too. Sata’s demonstration van with their spray equipment was there - for anyone looking for paint spraying advice or kit, this was the day. Apart from Sata and their spray equipment the Abode Academy that provides training in the whole art of paint spraying were giving advice plus finishing systems from Schuberts were there to be seen as was the well-known Schubox drying system.
Inox was on display with the range of glazing cassettes and the whole Urban bar range was there to be seen. What was impressive was that genuine advice was on
offer and that came from all quarters. While people may have come to see the engineered doors, they found a whole range of other products and services on offer and it was clear that great interest was shown in every display, and not least the pizzas – the best this side of Naples, as they say!
This was probably one of the best networking days of the year! The trade was well represented with systems houses, door manufacturers, fabricators, installers, hardware companies and equipment suppliers of every kind. RegaLead hospitality is well known and attendance at one of their Open Days is worth the trip.
When you hear that they are holding another day, get the date in your diary!

LINIAR SHINES AT THE 2024 GREAT HOLIDAY HOME SHOW
In September, leading UK systems company Liniar showcased its full range of groundbreaking outdoor products at the Great Holiday Home Show in Harrogate. The largest outdoor event of its kind, the show attracted over 25,000 attendees.
The week-long exhibition provided Liniar with the perfect platform to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable manufacturing and product innovation, while highlighting business opportunities for caravan and park operators.
The company’s stand drew significant attention with its comprehensive display of PVCu decking, fencing, piling, gates, and the much-anticipated official launch of Spaces outdoor rooms.
HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE WITH INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS
“The Great Holiday Home Show was an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our outdoor range and engage directly with potential partners in the industry,” said Daryl Fradley, Secondary Operations Director at Liniar.
He continues, “Team members enjoyed helping visitors interact with our products and explaining the value they bring to the holiday home and park sectors. The response was overwhelmingly positive, which is a testament to the quality of our versatile product offerings.”
As well as the existing SwitchBoard and SwitchBoard Ultra decking ranges, visitors had the opportunity to explore
“The response was overwhelmingly positive, which is a testament to the quality of our versatile product offerings.”
Liniar's latest addition - Rapt premium foiled composite decking. Finished using Renolit’s GEOFOL foil and designed to replicate the look and feel of classic timber (or other natural materials), Rapt received glowing reviews.
One visitor remarked, "The intricate detail looks stunning, and the finish feels great underfoot, it’s really grippy – very impressive." This feedback underscores a strong demand for durable, low-maintenance deck boards that don’t compromise on aesthetic appeal.
INTRODUCING SPACES OUTDOOR ROOMS
A major highlight of Liniar’s exhibit was the launch of Spaces outdoor rooms. Attendees had the chance to step inside a fully furnished Spaces room and experience its comfort and versatility first hand.
Mike Hobson, Sales Director Outdoor Range at Liniar, explained, “Demand for outdoor rooms surged during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the trend has persisted with Keystone market research showing annual searches online for garden rooms to be up 42% compared with 2019.
“Liniar has pulled together its considerable expertise in PVCu extrusion, foiling and manufacturing into one stunning, fully customisable finished product. Spaces can add significant functionality and value to any outdoor area, as well as providing a way for businesses to generate additional revenue by diversifying their offerings,” adds Mike.
TRADE DAY SUCCESS AND BUSINESS GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES
During the event’s Trade days, Liniar’s Sales team focused on building connections with key industry professionals. Conversations revolved around the cross-selling potential of Liniar’s extensive product range, including how their innovative solutions could help businesses grow.
“It was fantastic to help park operators and suppliers understand how Liniar’s products can enhance their existing portfolios and create new revenue streams,” said Mike. “The feedback we received has strengthened our resolve to continue innovating and meeting the evolving needs of the industry.”
A WELL-RECEIVED EXHIBIT, SUPPORTED BY A DEDICATED TEAM
The success of the event was bolstered by the tireless efforts of Liniar’s Sales, Marketing, Design & Development, Technical, and Fabrication teams, who collaborated closely to meticulously plan the exhibit and ensure every product was showcased to its full potential.
The overwhelmingly positive feedback from visitors affirmed Liniar’s position as a leading British manufacturer and supplier of PVCu solutions to the caravan and park operator industry.
As the show concluded, Daryl Fradley commented, “It was clear that Liniar’s participation had not only strengthened its relationships within the industry, but also opened up new avenues for growth and collaboration. We’re pleased to have taken part in the show and are already excited about what next year’s event may bring.

KOLORSEAL COLOURS LIKE NO OTHER
As a specialist in the fenestration sector Kolorseal was purpose built to provide colour coating solutions to an ever developing market. Debbie Hendry, Managing Director talks to Adrian Barraclough, Chairman of Quickslide, who is concerned there are less and less niche experts like Kolorseal in the sector, that can offer professional bespoke colouring services.
CRAFTSMANSHIP COUNTS
With regulations becoming tougher across the sector, Adrian believes there are few, true specialists, recognised as experts in the field, who can offer the consistent quality and craftsmanship that Kolorseal can.
Adrian comments, “Although some consider specialisms such as colour coating, integrated blind manufacturing, window arch fabrication, glass production etc., as straightforward and easy to replicate, this is not the case due to complicated techniques that true specialists make look simple. The idea of creating a niche service comes from understanding the market and bringing about much needed opportunities which become the backbone of a customer’s growth.
For some, they have learned the hard way about trying to offer the same type of service that a niche business offers. A number of Kolorseal clients have returned to the company after trying to handle their own in-house colour coating service as they soon realised that it is not plain sailing.”
As a longstanding provider of bespoke solutions, the Kolorseal team has been trained to the highest industry standards and they grasp the pitfalls that can occur when spraying different surface types.
Adrian believes that whilst imitation is the highest form of flattery, when it comes to
getting it right this takes time, research and very hard work.
Colour is fast becoming more than just an option for fabricators to offer and it is evident that consumers are now aware of the broad choices available to them.
EVERY SINGLE PROJECT IS UNIQUE
Handling and coating by Kolorseal means all the colouring aspects of any job are fully understood, with careful attention placed on the smaller details - and they really count.
Understanding and hoping to imitate the standards that an expert has explored, tried and developed over 20 years is simply not possible in a matter of a few months.”
Adrian continued.
“Becoming a specialist is no mean feat and this isn’t highlighted anywhere better than Kolorseal.
Would would you want your plumber doing your electrics because he’s good at plumbing? Or would you be happy for an accountant to be the structural engineer calculating loads on your house or a neurologist doing your heart by-pass? They may be smart and competent at a similar profession but in essence the subtle differences could disastrous.
“Debbie and her team fully grasp what is required and how to achieve the best results. Looking to the future, whilst some may believe that they can provide the skills of highly trained operatives, it could well be the case of needing to revert to using a specialist due to the losses incurred and expensive lessons learned.”
MEETING THE NEEDS OF THE INDUSTRY
By launching a company that serves fabricators manufacturing for all property types from high end bespoke, to commercial and corporate buildings through to supplying services for small builders and community projects, Kolorseal is best placed to meet the needs of the industry via its modern 18,000 sq. ft facility in Huddersfield.
“Leading a market as an independent, clear headed business owner, who is totally integrated into the sector with unique options is something fabricators need - they rely upon this to get projects completed to the highest standard in the fastest timescale.
“Every Kolorseal project is unique and of the highest quality - because in simple terms, the company knows what it is doing.”
Adrian concluded.
Kolorseal is an award winning, niche colour coating provider, exclusively serving the fenestration and construction sectors. Visit the website www.kolorseal. co.uk for more information.

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO WORK WITH DOORCO?
Leading composite door supplier, DoorCo, has put together a 48-page Customer Guide designed to give their customers a comprehensive insight into what they can expect from working with DoorCo, the team that supports them and the products they can procure.
Head of Technology and Marketing, Ben Aspinall, explains more: “The recent launch of BRiTDOR has elevated DoorCo to be the only composite door supplier that can deliver the four key types of door –foam-filled, hybrid, solid-timber and fire - from their own product portfolio, along with a glazing cassette system and a bespoke glass and colour collection. From our humble roots, we’ve become a far more complex beast. Transparency is at the heart of what we do, so to help our customers to understand how we work, what we offer and who will be supporting them, we have put together a comprehensive Customer Guide.
“The guide, which is available in digital format so it always remains current, can be accessed via the Web to Print Portal, outlines our offering as the ultimate one stop composite door supplier. It features key information like our service proposition, our values, photos and names of the team, each one of our doors along with the key designs and styles they can achieve, and details of our other components like FLiP, PAiNT and GLAZiNG. We have also detailed our supply chain, and our specialist technology and marketing support services.
“Over the last 16 years, DoorCo has grown into a full one stop shop for composite doors, with a team of over 190 people with 450 years collective experience, supporting the supply of market leading composite doors and components from 4 UK sites. Most importantly, however, is that DoorCo is still owned by one family and this status is what continues, as it always has done, to drive the business forward. We remain intent on being the most helpful composite door supplier on the market and this guide has been created to help customers understand everything we can offer and the many ways we can support their businesses.”

APEER UPGRADES CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH NEW ONLINE PORTAL
Apeer has launched a new, online customer services portal that provides a more efficient way for trade partners to register aftersales and warranty queries as well as making it easier to follow up on their progress.
The product of eight month’s intensive development by Apeer’s dedicated technical team, the new, bespoke portal has been created entirely in-house and as a result has been expertly tailored to the needs of its extensive customer base.
Apeer’s Managing Director, Asa McGillian, explained: “We’re committed to supporting our customers in any way we can, from delivering the best performing, best looking products on the market, to high quality service, marketing and after sales.
“We know how important it is, in a more challenging trading environment, for installers to gain a competitive advantage and that’s why we’ve invested so significantly in our new online portal.
“It allows them to quickly create an aftersales query ‘ticket’ and upload photos if required, even if they’re on site, without having to navigate back to emails,” he continued. “It helps to keep all the info from an aftersales query in one place, provides an easy way to check on its progress and importantly, it means that a dedicated Apeer sales representative will also be able to instantly see an overview of any open tickets, enabling them to expediate urgent queries.
“Trade partners can still use our existing customer service, cs@apeer.co.uk if they wish, but the new portal has been designed to allow them to operate more effectively – it also means they can pass on these efficiencies to the end user, enhancing their own level of service and brand reputation in the process.”
When logged into the new portal, Apeer’s trade partners will also have direct access to product technical information and documentation, detailed care, fitting & warranty guides, plus additional FAQs and valuable marketing materials.
“At Apeer, we’re constantly looking to raise the bar when it comes to our product offer, with exciting innovations that gives us a leading edge on performance, aesthetics and the breadth of our range,” concluded Asa. “And, as we’ve demonstrated with our new customer portal, we’re also dedicated to providing the best service and support, making it as easy as possible for our trade partners to manage and grow their businesses.”

In addition to the new Bristol location, the company also opened two new branches last year, in Worthing and Christchurch, bringing the total number of stores across the network to eighteen. RENAISSANCE FOR TRIED AND TRUSTED W20 STEEL WINDOWS
As home renovation remains popular, and with the focus being on the acquisition and refurbishment of rural properties, this has resulted in Steel Window Association (SWA) members reporting a higher than usual demand for the replacement of the traditional W20 style windows.
The W20 closely replicates the appearance of the older universal suite of sections and can therefore be found providing reliable service from country cottages to dockland warehouses and in commercial, as well as industrial buildings. Not only do the slimline sections offer slender sightlines compared to PVC-U and timber frames, but their strength also provides good security and longterm robustness.
In addition, the advancements made in glass technology and the availability of much improved weather-stripping means that the modern W20 window delivers far better energy performance than their single-glazed predecessors.
The President of the SWA and Contracts Director at Associated Steel Window Services, Kris Bennell, comments: “W20 steel frames are the ever reliable, ever popular
DOORCO CONFIRMED AS TWO-TIMES G24 FINALIST
DoorCo is delighted to have been shortlisted in this year's G-Awards, for Component Supplier of the Year and Promotional Campaign, both categories the leading composite door supplier has won before.
traditional option for the sector, which are liked by both planners and heritage bodies for use in a host of different property types.
“The glazing beads mean it is possible for new and refurbished W20 windows to accept 16mm thick IG units; and these in turn can feature low-E coatings on the glass, warm edge spacer bars and argon, krypton or xenon gas filling to deliver much improved U-values. W20 is a system which can work in
a summer-house or a commercial building in London and as a stylish room divider or shower screen. It is just so versatile.”
The SWA offers UK wide coverage with member companies able to carry out the full range of contracts from the repair and restoration of heritage windows through to the installation of major fenestration packages in contemporary commercial, residential and other types of developments.
For further information on the Steel Window Association or if you’re interested in becoming a member, please visit www.steel-window-association.co.uk.
Ben Aspinall, Commercial Director comments: “We’re really pleased to have been successfully shortlisted in the two categories we entered for this year’s G24 Awards. Both Component Supplier of the Year and Promotional Campaign of the Year are important awards for us to uphold, having won both in previous years.
“Since being named G22 Component Supplier, we haven’t been resting on our laurels. Our focus has been firmly on innovation, which was perfectly showcased in our INNOVATiON Week takeover last November.
“INNOVATiON Week saw us highlighted to the market 11 new product innovations that have been added to the product portfolio in 2024. Twice daily announcements over 5 days covered all the work we’ve been doing behind the scenes on our journey to be the ONE Supplier for composite door components in the UK, supporting many of the industry’s key players with the sole supply of composite doors.
“DoorCo is the only UK composite door manufacturer to that can supply, from their own product portfolio, the four key types of doors on the market –foam-filled, hybrid, solid-timber and fire – along with its own UK manufactured glazing cassette system and a bespoke glass and colour collection.
“We’re excited to be attending the G-Awards this year as a finalist to celebrate the very best of the window and door industry. Congratulations to all the other finalists.”

PST’S INNOVATIVE SOFTWARE CONTINUES TO ENHANCE MADE FOR TRADE’S OPERATIONS
Made For Trade, the multiaward-winning aluminium manufacturer, has been reaping the benefits of using Production Software Technology’s (PST) cuttingedge software for over 7 years. As the company expanded its operations to include manufacturing its own products, such as the Korniche Roof Lantern, Made For Trade needed a reliable software solution to meet their evolving needs. Given their previous positive experiences and familiarity with PST’s software, working on a partnership was an easy decision for the company.
Since 2017, Made For Trade has been utilising PST’s powerful manufacturing software, Virtual Shopfloor (VS). This innovative tool allows fabricators to access an extensive library of preset 3D model templates or create custom designs from scratch using a free form tool, enhancing their manufacturing capabilities.
Mike Robinson, Head of Sales Operations at Made For Trade, emphasised the value of this partnership, stating, “The previous experience we had with PST’s software during our partnership with Synseal made it an obvious choice when we began designing our own products and needed to find an appropriate software solution. The familiarity the team already had with PST’s software ensured a smooth transition for the company
during this important period. Working directly with the PST team has been invaluable, as they promptly address any needs, questions or custom requests. Although issues are rare, when we do have specific requirements, such as adding things into the bespoke platform, the PST team handles any requests swiftly and seamlessly.”
Neil Travers, Managing Director at PST, added, “It has been a privilege to work closely with Made For Trade over the past 7 years. Knowing that Virtual Shopfloor (VS) has played an important part in enhancing their manufacturing processes is very rewarding for myself and my team. We have built a strong relationship where continuous feedback and collaboration ensures the software is always evolving to meet Made For Trade’s needs and supports growth.”

A WARMER WEBSITE FOR WARMCORE ODL EUROPE LAUNCHES NEW DOOR DESIGNER
With a strong new business pipeline already established after the ‘warm to the core’ campaign was commenced earlier this year, Kömmerling have invested in a new website platform at warmcoresystems.com to support the sales drive.
The website has been designed with consumers, trade partners and commercial specifiers in mind, clearly promoting the many benefits of this unique PVC/aluminium hybrid platform. There is wider information about Kömmerling’s vision as a global brand under which WarmCore sits and also important information about sustainability as WarmCore looks set to become a 100% recycled product platform in the coming months.
Earlier in 2024 a new range of WarmCore literature was launched and there are also plans to expand this in
the coming months as the investment in marketing continues.
Mark Frain, national business development manager of WarmCore commented: ‘WarmCore is a respected product, and this new website perfectly showcases this revolutionary platform that includes bi-folding and patio doors, along with casement, flush and tilt and turn windows. Supporting this are also a wide range of ancillaries too.
He continued: ‘The website is a digital platform for
people to find out more and to make enquiries and is supported by our social media channels and other marketing efforts. Our customers firmly believe that this is a better and warmer way to aluminium and we’re actively looking for more partners to join our network.’

£1.5 BILLION QUOTED ON TOMMY THIS YEAR
Use of the Tommy Trinder app continues to climb; the firm reports that the value of work quoted by installers topped £1.5bn in the first 8 months of 2024.
“The numbers are a bit nuts,” says founder and CEO Chris Brunsdon. “In two years, we’ve seen the values quoted by installers on Tommy go from under £100 million a month to over £200 million a month. It’s a lot of zeros!”
The number of firms using the Tommy Trinder platform continues to grow too with 150 more installation companies signing up to use the service so far this year. But it's not just new business that is fuelling growth, explains Chris: “Having a full suite of materials - timber, aluminium, steel and PVCu - available to touch, show and sell is really boosting the numbers. We’re seeing a rising incidence of installers combining multiple materials in one quote – a timber front door,
an aluminium bi-fold and some PVCu sashes on the same job is not uncommon, for example. These mixed material projects are leading to higher average quote values - typically, in the region of £7,300.”
“Premium features are a factor too; foils, dual colours, dummy vents, mechanical joints, flush casements, surface mounted bars and premium ironmongery are all trending upwards. It's easy to show these off on the Tommy platform in a very visual way, and when it’s easy to show it's easy to sell.”
Tommy Trinder report that more than 33,000 homeowners have received a quote generated by the Tommy platform in
the last three months. Notably, 60% of quotes were accompanied by a visualisation;
“The makeover tool, where installers provide a mockup to the homeowner of their new windows in situ, is definitely becoming a staple part of the quoting process,” says Chris. “When you consider the ease with which consumers are able to model other significant purchases like cars or kitchens, it feels inevitable that offering the client a visual of windows and doors will become the norm. Customers love being able to ‘try before they buy.’”
Installers can find out more about Tommy Trinder and book a free demo at www.tommytrinder.com.

GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS WINNING SALES
The retail sector is struggling to meet consumer expectations for service, but as Rhonda Ridge of Ab Initio highlights, that means there is a real opportunity for installation businesses that are getting customer service right.
According to a study conducted by Forbes 96% of consumers will walk away from a company for bad service. And yet, the latest publication of the bi-annual Institute of Customer Service survey suggests that bad service is what consumers are getting. The UK Customer Satisfaction Index (UKCSI) is the lowest it has been for 14 years with consumers feeling they are not being understood by the retail companies serving them. The survey reported more problems remain unresolved, and companies are taking longer to resolve the problems they do manage to fix.
Rocio Concha, Director of Policy and Advocacy at Which? said: “People should be able to contact companies easily and get the answers they need without unnecessary barriers and in the way that suits them best – whether that is speaking to a person or a chatbot. Any firms that are falling short need to make improvements urgently and ensure they are offering customers the service they expect.”
Installation companies are not exempt from this requirement to upgrade standards of service. Although it’s more difficult for consumers to walk away once work starts on their home, installation businesses that treat homeowners well at the beginning of the customer journey and can demonstrate how their needs will be catered for throughout the process, upfront, are more likely to win sales against this backdrop of poor service. One of the easiest and most effective ways to upgrade your service is to implement the right software in the form of an installation management system with a strong focus on delivering what the customer wants.
“ It’s a great sales tool too because homeowners can see upfront how they will be able to track their order online and how they will benefit from even better service levels.”
GIVE CUSTOMERS FULL ACCESS
The AdminBase CRM has an awardwinning Customer Portal feature that helps home improvement companies manage their customer relationships seamlessly, while simultaneously saving customer service departments time and hassle. Most consumers buying from a retail business now prefer to have the ability to log in and check on the status of their order online, at a time that suits them. That’s why we have given this facility to our subscribers. Homeowners can log in, confirm appointments, check on the progress
of their survey and installation, and as importantly, report any snagging issues after the project has been completed. AdminBase also includes the facility to collect electronic signatures via e-mail.
The Customer Portal not only gives homeowners the level of service they desire, it also frees up customer service teams to allow them more time to help consumers solve their more complex concerns. It’s a great sales tool too because homeowners can see upfront how they will be able to track their order online and how they will benefit from even better service levels.
Rhonda Ridge
INTEGRATED SMS FOR EFFICIENT COMMUNICATION
Another feature the AdminBase system can offer installation businesses to help further improve service levels is an SMS function that is fully integrated into the system and that allows installers to use text updates throughout entire jobs. From booking sales appointments to confirming installation dates, and from payment reminders to remedial appointments, installers can use texting as a means of reaching the homeowner faster, and more easily. SMS messages sent through AdminBase can be viewed by the entire team and are all stored with each contract on the system to ensure all the benefits of texting customers, with none of the downfalls, such as a lack of shared information if texts are only stored on one device.
Service has always been important, but in a landscape of consumers struggling to find companies to meet their needs, those that can demonstrate a commitment to good service will be streets ahead. Those that can’t deliver the same level of efficiency will start to fall behind if they haven’t already. Implementing an all-encompassing installer management system is the most effective way to simplify processes in the business and make communication with homeowner customers smoother and sleeker, and ultimately better for all involved.
IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU...
Your education and subject or activity in which you excelled
I always enjoyed learning things and was fortunate to do well through my early school days to secondary education where I particularly enjoyed mathematics, art and technical drawing, this led me to follow in my brother’s footsteps by studying Building Studies and Architecture. I really enjoyed the design aspect and in them days it was tracing paper, drawing boards and ink fine-point pens, to which I excelled, winning an architectural award for my design and drawing presentations on a single dwelling project. It all changed with the introduction of autocad, which revolutionised detailing and design not only in architecture, but in many other industries. I continue to really enjoy using autocad and it is a great asset when designing new profile dies for our glazing systems.
Your favourite sports and interests
More recently I have been trying to be a lot more active, I enjoy going to spin classes and weight training. I also have two dogs who like a good long walk in the evenings and weekends. I like to watch a lot of sports, and as far as my favourite sport it would be a choice between rugby or football, I follow our local province rugby team Ulster and really look forward to the six nations, with Ireland currently playing great rugby that’s exciting to watch. On the other hand, with football, I

follow Manchester United, who at times are very frustrating to watch, but with wishful thinking, things can only get better.
Someone or Something that
inspires you
I have always had the support of my parents, who encouraged me to go on with my education. They have always taught me the difference between right and wrong and if a jobs worth doing, its worth doing right, so I would say both my mother and father have been great roll models and have inspired me in my work and life. My daughter has just finish University this year and I try to pass on sound advice and encourage her not to rush into any job, but to start out on her
career in a role where there are opportunities to advanced, but more importantly to find a job that she really enjoys.
YOUR CAREER...
When and how did you join this industry
I remember the very date, it was 5th February 1990, prior to that I had been working with in the Council’s Building Control Department and the opportunity came up for a draughtsman in BDG Group Ltd, a local window and conservatory company. I started on the drawing board and surveying jobs. I helped
introduced autocad into the business, which was a lot different then, than it is today, and as the business grew a team of Autocad technicians was formed and with hard work and dedication I got promoted to Technical Manager. The business continued to grow and I as opportunities arose within the business, I continued to put myself forward, and had various roles, from Commercial Manager to Research and Development Manager
Your greatest achievement
My greatest achievement was the design of the Atlas lantern roof, at BDG we had been asked by one of our customers to come up with a lantern roof with no boss or hood, as they look old fashion, and our customer wanted a slim less bulky solution. I went about looking at an alternative slim modern design and with the help of Paul Jamison, Atlas’s current Technical Manager, we came up with the Mark II ridge design, which was the first thermally broken all aluminium lantern with no bulky boss or hood to the market. Shortly after the Mark II ridge was designed Customade bought the roof system, and we have had incredible success throughout the years.
AND YOUR FUTURE...
What would you like to do if you weren’t in this industry
If I wasn’t in the fenestration industry I would probably fall back to Building and Architecture. I enjoyed designing and renovating projects and would relish the idea of taking on an older dwelling project from the design stage right through to project managing it.
A particular ambition
My ambition in life is to look after my family, be happy and continue to work hard and help bring as much success to REAL aluminium as I can, and in doing so try and stay as healthy as possible along the way.
The way you want to be remembered
I would like to be remembered as a hardworking decent guy who encouraged my family, work colleagues and friends to do their best and if they had any issues in their job or in life in general that they wouldn’t have any concerns about approaching me if they needed help.
SAFEDOORS LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE TO BOOST ENGAGEMENT
Safedoors has just launched its newly designed website, aimed at increasing brand visibility and supporting customers in securing more business. Kay McGrady, Trade Marketing Manager for Epwin Fabrication, said: “We’re delighted with our new website and confident it will add value to our customers’ businesses.”
The new site also marks the launch of a new ‘Approved Safedoors Installer’ programme, which gives installers access to an unrivalled range of composite doors, as well as online ordering, marketing support and lead generation tools.
The website features appealing lifestyle imagery that showcases the aesthetic appeal of Safedoors’ product range. An interactive ‘Design Online’ feature allows consumers to design their own doors and get inspired about the possibilities – and, crucially, send their designs directly to the nearest Safedoors Approved Installer to be quoted.
Additionally, the website offers comprehensive product information, detailing the specifications and credentials of Safedoors’ products.
DAWS LAUNCHES ITS GUARANTEED NO BOW, ALL-ALUMINIUM COMPOSITE DOOR RANGE
Leading aluminium manufacturer DAWS has launched its “all aluminium” Signature Door collection. Designed to provide residential installers with a stylish, robust and hassle-free composite door – the company believes this is truly the first composite door that gives hard working installers a fit-and-forget product they can trust.
Available in eight of the most popular styles, the PAS24compliant Signature Door range is manufactured using a strong aluminium-faced slab, ensuring tough and durable panels. At 63mm, it is 30% thicker than standard GRP composite doors and provides installers with a clear sales benefit compared to other PVC/Composite doors on the market, but finally at a comparable price point.
“It’s what the industry has been waiting for – a door that you never get called back to… it’s truly an amazing product that is offered at a similar price to a premium composite door, but with none of the headaches. No more colour fading and no more hinges dropping, and of course no more bowing doors, thanks to its industry first “No Bow Guarantee,” comments Phill Cresswell, Sales Director at DAWS.
Reflecting the high quality of its construction, every Signature Door comes with a 10-year manufacture guarantee and a massive 25-year Qualicoat powder coating guarantee on the paint finish.
The single colour frame and door leaf has a colour matched weather bar, and the doors can be specified in any RAL colour finish. The high security locking system comes with a Kinetica 3 Star cylinder for complete peace of mind.
“The combination of an aluminium outer frame that is rigid and secure, housing an aluminium finished door slab that is put together with meticulous care and attention to detail makes our Signature Doors a perfect alternative to standard composite doors. They also align perfectly with our ethos of offering our customers a headache-free life when it comes to ordering our trade aluminium and steel look products,” continues Phill.
To ensure that every Signature Door is delivered in pristine condition, there’s a small electronic device called a ‘Shock Dot’ attached to the packaging. This clever alarm records
This website launch is part of a broader rebranding initiative for Safedoors, encompassing both trade and consumer literature. Kay said: “The new branding offers a fresh and contemporary look that reflects all the high quality you get when you choose Safedoors.”
In addition to the website launch, Safedoors’ Encore™ 48mm solid timber core composite door range has just achieved FSC certification, further solidifying its status as a premium product for discerning consumers. Further investments include a new vehicle fleet and in-house paint line.
Kay concluded: “Our ongoing investments demonstrate our commitment to advancing our product range and supporting our customers. If you are not yet a Safedoors partner, we invite you to visit our new website, explore our products, and join us on this exciting journey.”

GRENFELL FINAL REPORT RELEASED: A LANDMARK CONCLUSION TO SEVEN YEARS OF INVESTIGATIONS
The long-awaited release of the final Grenfell Report, concluding seven years of extensive investigations into the 2017 tragedy at Grenfell Tower in which 72 people died, was releases earlier this month. The landmark report represents a significant milestone for the construction industry, the regulatory landscape, and for all those affected by the Grenfell tragedy. The release highlights the need for continued progress and reforms in building safety, a mission to which the Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) remains deeply committed.
“The Report notes that safety of people in the built environment ultimately depends on the skill, knowledge and experience of those engaged in the construction industry, explains DHF’s General Manager & Secretary, Michael Skelding. “The Inquiry
identified serious deficiencies in all three at Grenfell Tower. There has recently been progress in this area, including the creation of the Industry Competence Steering Group, responsibility for which has now moved from the Construction Leadership Council to the Building Safety Regulator. This work, beginning in 2018, was aimed at enhancing the skills, knowledge, and accountability of professionals across the construction sector.”
The Inquiry’s recommendations will enable further measures to be taken to address the industry’s failings. The fact that the Inquiry is now complete also clears the way for the law to take its course regarding the culpability of individuals and companies involved in the disaster.
“The failures in specifying, installing and maintaining the fire and smoke resisting flat
entrance doorsets at Grenfell are spelled out in the Grenfell Report; lack of competence was clearly the major issue,” continues Michael, “ and it is here where DHF sees its principal role, with its continuing development of training and support for specialists in door technology, including fire-resisting and emergency escape doors.”
Training, particularly of installers and maintainers, will remain the mainstay of DHF’s contribution to building safety. Courses are developed to assist in the creation of a competent workforce and awareness training for clients can also be offered.
“The release of the Grenfell Report is not the end, but a critical step forward in the journey to ensure that a tragedy like Grenfell never happens again,” concludes Michael. “DHF remains dedicated to working alongside industry partners, regulators, and the
government to implement the necessary reforms and continue driving improvements in building safety.
“As we reflect on the findings of the Grenfell Report, our thoughts are with the families and communities affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy. DHF stands firm in its commitment to advancing fire safety, advocating robust standards, and ensuring that the lessons learned from this tragedy lead to real and lasting change.”
DOORS TO SUCCESS: THE EMPLAS AND DOORCO STORY
THE BEGINNING OF A STRONG PARTNERSHIP
The partnership between Emplas and DoorCo began in May 2019, marking the start of a collaboration that has continued to evolve and flourish over the years. Emplas’ decision to forge the partnership, was driven by DoorCo’s reputation as a progressive company with a strong focus on new product development.
Kush Patel, Emplas MD comments:
“What initially drew us to DoorCo, was their strong reputation in the industry and their impressive investment in stock. This investment meant that DoorCo had stock readily available, allowing us to offer composite doors efficiently to meet our customers’ demands. The most crucial factor for us, perhaps, was DoorCo’s complete control over their supply chain, which aligned perfectly with the operational needs of Emplas, maintaining efficiency and reliability in our services.
EVOLUTION OF THE PARTNERSHIP: TRULY SPECIAL
“As our partnership evolved, it became clear that our shared values were a driving force behind our collective success. At Emplas, we’re committed to pride, integrity, teamwork, excellence, and determination. DoorCo, with their focus on people, innovation, adaptability, and quality,

mirrors these values closely. This alignment has built a foundation of respect and shared goals, making our partnership not only strategic but also a stronger collaboration.
“Flexibility has been key to this collaboration. We can prep certain door styles at DoorCo’s Macclesfield site while handling others at our Wellingborough factory. This flexibility has been beneficial for both parties, ensuring that we can meet the needs of our customers.
“DoorCo has consistently adapted to meet our needs, adjusting their product range, technical support, and customer service. Both Emplas and DoorCo are investment-led and privately run, which allows for quick decision-making and rapid adaption to market changes, making our relationship truly special.
“Over the years, DoorCo’s broadened product offerings has enabled Emplas to provide a more extensive range of options to our customers, backed up by high service standards. DoorCo’s commitment to innovation and exceptional customer service has truly been a key factor in the strength of our partnership.
“Our collaboration extends across all functions of both businesses, from senior leadership to purchasing, production, sales,

technical, IT, and marketing teams. The constant two-way communication at all levels has been essential in our progress, helping us quickly and efficiently tackle any questions or concerns. The ease in how we communicate is a testament to the strong relationships built across both organisations.
ACHIEVING INDUSTRY FIRSTS
“Our partnership with DoorCo has led to several industry firsts. Shortly after we teamed up, we launched ORiGINAL as a new range of foam filled composite doors for Emplas and we were the first fabricator to introduce ‘Works with Kubu Smart’ security on the range exclusively for 18 months, highlighting our commitment to leading the market with cutting-edge products.
“Early on in our partnership, we were also one of the first to implement an EDI system, a paperless online ordering system that has streamlined our purchasing process. Our purchasing team can place orders quickly and accurately, minimising the risk of manual errors and ensuring timely processing.
FUTURE GROWTH
“Since the launching of ORiGINAL in 2019, we’ve continued to expand our composite door range. Earlier this year we introduced GRiPCORE and we’ve just launched BRiTDOR, with stable doors and FiRECORE to follow in the foreseeable future. These new additions will allow us to
offer a complete, wider range of composite doors, catering to all divisions with the market.
“As a business, we’ve also made significant investment in composite door manufacturing, with a new dedicated 25,000 square foot doors facility opening at our Wellingborough home. From here, we will

be driving more composite door volumes and capacity, supported by DoorCo.
“Committing this six-figure investment is testament to our partnership with DoorCo and our faith in them as our sole supplier of composite doors. We look forward to continuing to develop the synergies in our relationship as we launch our expanded composite door offering to the UK domestic and commercial markets.”
Ben Aspinall, DoorCo’s Commercial Director adds: “Partnering with forwardthinking and investment-led fabricators like Emplas has helped us grow from humble beginnings 16 years ago, to be the only composite door supplier able to offer the market all the choice from one product portfolio – a true ONE stop supplier
“In collaboration, we’ve established a partnership supply model that is cross functional with top level, tech, product development, manufacturing and marketing teams all working together.
“It’s thanks to our strong relationship with Emplas that we’ve been able to get under the skin of the market, ask questions, trial innovations and understand what our customers really need. We are proud to work with such a driven and successful brand as Emplas and look forward to many more years of mutual growth”.

IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU...
Where were you born and live currently?
I grew up in Moorgreen, a slightly posher village next door to Eastwood, an ex-mining town in Nottinghamshire, famous for being the birthplace of D H Lawrence. Nestled in the countryside we were always a quick bike ride away from being in the woods, and I think this is partly where my love of nature and the outdoors comes from. Currently I live in a little village about 20 minutes’ drive from work – on the doorstep of the Derbyshire Peak District.
Your education and the subject or activity in which you excelled?
Pulled up by my bootstraps at Eastwood Comp, I always enjoyed more creative subjects like art and design and anything where you could argue a point of view. I attended an 11th Session art workshop at weekends – and despite whinging at the time about giving up my weekends, looking back this was a great opportunity. I drank and partied my way through 6th form, mainly studying intently at Rock City. I was also lucky enough to get to do some aid work through 6th form. Helping disadvantaged street kids in Romania – a humbling experience. Post A levels I got a place at Uni to study Graphic Design – a place I deferred to join the family business for a year as they introduced computers to a studio full of old school, incredibly talented but tech illiterate designers. It was during
this time that I first encountered the world of fenestration – as Eurocell, led at the time by Roger Hartshorn and Mike Bosworth were clients.
Your favourite sports or interests?
Mountain Biking, never happier (other than when I’m extolling the virtues of Sheerline of course!) than when I’m hitting the trails and getting out in the sun, wind and rain. I’ve also developed an unhealthy interest in gardening as I’ve got older, and an even unhealthier interest in politics (UK and US).
Your biggest regret in life?
A few relationship ones, you’d probably need to get me drunk for me to go into those. Workwise, I think you need to own your decisions and not second guess what you didn’t do too much. We sometimes joke at work about my time on the dark side ‘aka’ while I was at Synseal – and while it all ended rather ignominiously, it was good fun - mad as a bunch of frogs, and taught me a lot. I’m still proud of the work we did launching Warmcore. It also highlighted the dangers that businesses can face when they take their eye off
THIS MONTH: David Wigley Head of Marketing, Garnalex
In charge of branding, product launches, communication, customer support and tying everything together into a cohesive whole.
delivering value to their customers, and the detrimental effect that venture capital and management that’s disconnected from the core business can have. It’s one of the reasons I love working at Sheerline – Roger and the rest of the management team get stuck in and understand, and care about our products and customers intimately.
The temptation you can’t resist...?
Looking at old characterful properties to do up, rhubarb crumble and coffee.
Someone or something that inspires you?
Harriet Tubman – along with a long list of frankly kick ass woman. Plus being out in nature always energises me.
YOUR CAREER...
When and how did you join this industry?
First working for Eurocell while I was employed by my dad’s advertising agency. We later
joined Eurocell as employees in 1997 when the family business went into administration following the loss of a couple of key accounts. The National Coal Board, and the TSB. I think Eurocell had 6 depots when we joined, and I was part of the team that helped the business grow into the successful plc it is today. Eurocell had just built its first purpose-built facility at Clover Nook, and it felt like we were joining at the start of something exciting – the same feeling I’ve got now at Sheerline!
What is your job?
I’m in charge of all the marketing and communications at Sheerline. Everything from adverts to exhibition stands to website and how we respond to enquiries. I’ve got fantastic colleagues who all bring different skills to the team, and I think that’s key to success for a marketing department. I think what I bring (other than my charm and wit!) is vision, an understanding of the market and the business that is more practical than most marketing professionals. It’s essential to work out what adds value and concentrate on that.
Your greatest achievement?
I’ve really enjoyed being part of the Sheerline team from (almost!) day one. It’s given me a great sense of ‘ownership’ of the brand. We’ve built an amazing business, I genuinely think Sheerline has also moved the whole aluminium sector forward – and knowing what else we have planned I’m excited for the future too!
Outside of work – I think looking after your family and being a good friend is probably my greatest
achievement. I also really value being Godparent to my friends’ kids.
AND YOUR FUTURE...
What would you like to do if you weren’t in this industry?
Photography, architecture maybe? If I won the lottery – I’d probably buy some land, build my dream house, travel the world and have fun!
A particular ambition?
I’d like to renovate somewhere exceptional. Anyone know of anyone who can sort me out with some aluminium windows?
The way you want to be remembered.
Fondly. As someone who cared and made a difference.
I lost my dad when I was 23 – and while this isn’t exactly answering the question, I do still think of the old sod when I complete a major project or sign off a stand. Hope he looks down and is proud.

aluminium system, for which it received a UK patent the following year. This unique system features a highly-efficient expanded polyurethane (PUR) thermal barrier, which gives the PURe® system exceptional thermal performance. As well as helping to prevent heat loss to reduce energy consumption, the PURe® system also offers ‘cradle to cradle’ recyclability, with even the PUR thermal barrier able to be reused with no requirement for landfill. Over the last decade, Senior has continued to develop and extend its PURe® range to include a variety of window styles and both commercial and residential door options.
The company’s patented PURe® window system can also achieve U-values as low as 0.71W/m2K when calculated as a commercial CEN Standard window to comfortably meet the latest targets set out by Part L of the Building Regulations.
Commenting, Senior Architectural Systems’ managing director Mark Wadsworth said: “Being recognised with a King’s Award for Enterprise is one of our proudest moments as a company and so it was a real honour to be able to host such a special event here at our Denaby site and to share it with all of our team. SEVEN YEARS TO SEVEN MILLION: HORTON PLASTICS’ SUCCESS STORY
Give us some background on Horton Plastics – what are the foundations of your business model?
“We’re a retailer specialising in selling uPVC windows, doors and building plastics to trade customers. I’d previously worked for a prominent fabricator as an on-site trade counter manager, but when that company folded, I was approached by one of their main customers – Carson Powell Construction. They wanted me to set up trade counter supply for the company, and I used my existing connections to help put CPC in contact with trade customers I’d worked with in my previous role.
“The rest, as they say, is history – I hit the ground running and founded Horton Plastics in 2017, opening our first trade counter in Stoke. We’ve enjoyed great success since, expanding to a team of 25 with three Directors. That’s down to our business foundations and principles – we pride ourselves on great service and exceptional value for money and are always willing to go the extra mile for our customers when required.
“These values were formalised and set out in our Customer Charter the same year we were founded, to let our customers know what exactly to expect from Horton Plastics. We make clear to them that nobody will go further than us in providing an outstanding service. This includes listening and acting on their feedback to improve their shopping experience, investing in systems and infrastructure to enhance our service levels, and assisting in their marketing and advertising strategies when called upon.
“We started working with REHAU after we partnered up with the fabricators Shepley Windows (Shepley). Though Shepley had originally been using a different polymer supplier, they soon moved over to REHAU due to customer demand. It’s not hard to see why – the REHAU name is recognised for its quality, so their frames are easy to sell. It’s also easy to get trade supply with the company, which definitely helped move things along!
“REHAU also stood out because of its environmental commitments. As part of our Customer Charter, we also focus on being environmentally friendly, and continue to look for more sustainable methods of waste disposal and recycling. REHAU’s work ensuring a circular economy of uPVC and maximising material recoverability meant we knew we were working with an organisation that shared similarly green aims.”
Tell us about your approved installer scheme. Why was this introduced, and what have the wider benefits been?
“Horton Plastics’ approved installer scheme was set up a year after our 2017 founding. We’ve never really wanted to do fitting as we’d be treading on our customers’ toes, but we’re keen to work with installers that are similarly committed to providing a high-quality service.
“What this entails is ensuring we work with fitters that have up-to-date health and safety credentials and insurance back guarantees, among other criteria. We store these credentials and update them each year. Our commitment in this area has been crucial to our success, and installers have responded enthusiastically. We’re now working with more fitters than ever before, and it’s encouraging to see such a response to maintaining best practice.”
A gross income of £7 million in seven years is a considerable achievement – what has been the key to your success?
“It goes back to the Customer Charter and putting customer service at the heart of our business model. It sounds simple,
but the key is to just listen to the customer and do three things right – the right brand, the right price, and the right service. If you can succeed on these three fronts while being receptive to customer feedback, it’s a good recipe for growth.
“Again, our Customer Charter makes it very clear – ‘nobody will go further than us in providing outstanding service to you.’ That means being agile and adapting to their working practices. For example, we’re happy to provide a quote through any medium, whether that’s over the phone, online, on WhatsApp and so on.
“This also goes down to the little things, including providing the Horton Plastics toolbox to all customers. These are essentially goody bags that include swatches, colour sample, and voucher codes for our online store. We’ve sent out over a hundred, and tracking online sales from the vouchers, we can definitely say they’ve gone down well.”
“We also continue to invest in systems that improve the service we provide. This includes texting customers when orders are in, providing QR codes for easy fitting and allowing warranties to be registered online. We’re also expanding the infrastructure around Horton Plastics, including expanding our fleet to all new vans. If you’ll pardon the pun, we’re driven by the need to provide a topclass service for our growing customer base and ensuring everyone receives the best shopping experience possible.”
What REHAU products do you offer?
“We offer everything from the REHAU portfolio except the vertical slider. Everything is made to measure, with the customers’ order passed to Shepley for fabrication. Of the products we do offer, we’ve definitely noticed the SLINOVA sliding door growing in popularity.
“Installers have been commenting on how its slimline design links into consumer trends, namely around wanting products with large panes of glass that can provide a more ‘commercial’ look. Given this, I’m not surprised that demand for the SLINOVA has increased, considering it was designed with a large glazing area that can let more outside light in.”
What is the relationship between REHAU, Shepley Windows, and Horton Plastics like?
“It’s very strong, and Shepley is integral to this. Some of the Shepley team have previously worked with REHAU and now have a close relationship with Horton Plastics too. We’ve
definitely benefitted from these well-established lines of communication.
“How this works in practice is through a clear delineation of duties. REHAU handles manufacturing, and Shepley deals with fabrication, meaning we can focus on the retail side of things. In this respect, we’re basically an extension of each other’s team, and it works well – we can be confident in giving delivery dates to customers knowing REHAU and Shepley can provide products on time.
“A good example of this in action is when Shepley began fabricating REHAU’s Rio flush fit window around MayJune last year. You’d think that overhauling operations like this would lead to some disruption somewhere for us, but it was all seamless. It’s reasons like this that show why the relationship is as strong as it has been, and why we’re selling more REHAU products than ever.”
What was behind the decision to integrate online sales into your business offering?
“We had started working on online sales just before COVID, and like many companies we were caught up in the ‘digital wave’ overhauling the shopping portal on our site. Though these obviously weren’t ideal circumstances, the lockdowns helped spur on the development of Horton Plastics’ online platform. We saw a huge level of demand for our products throughout this time, which really kept our momentum going as a business.
“It’s also been crucial that we don’t rest on our laurels here. Our website now includes features that allow customers to design their desired windows step-by-step online, from the opening to the collar to the handles, before the going on to the checkout. Being able to visualise their order has been a key step in growing sales – we now deliver as far as Scotland, Cornwall and the Orkney Islands.
“We’re picking up lots of new and repeat customers via the online medium, and this has been good to see. It allows us to build footholds in new areas without impacting local trade, yet we’re still picking up business through our branches. It’s good to see all round, really.”
Tell us about your unique Electronic Point of Sale (EPoS) system – how does this work and what are the benefits?
“Well, we’re still working on it at the moment, so I don’t want to go into too much detail! In a nutshell, it’s next step for our already successful online offering, expanding on it while adding a new point-of-difference from other, similar websites.
“It revolves around the use of smart links, which provide a unique online account system for each customer. Using these links, customers can benefit from the same discount structure they would receive in-person. We wanted to be able to offer the same level of customer service as we do in person, but in a click-and-collect format. I’ve high hopes for the new EPoS system, and we’re excited for its full rollout.”

Answers by-lined to Rob Horton, Director at Horton Plastics
True authenticity comes from a blend of heritage styling and modern performance.
Single features may grab attention, but a true heritage sash window is designed to ensure the seamless integration of all its parts.
Everything has to work together: slim overlapping putty-line profiles, a 35mm midrail, heritage chalk finishes, seamless ornate sash horns, true mechanical joints, deep cills and innovative balance chamber covers, to name but a few.
Add to that a 1.2 W/m2k u-value without specialist glass, and you have a true conservation-grade sash window with outstanding modern performance.
Only Roseview’s Ultimate Rose sash window delivers all this. Because it’s more than a sum of its parts.
EMPOWERING THE FUTURE OF GLASS RECYCLING: LAUNCH OF GLAZINGRECOVERY.ORG BY ECKERSLEY O’CALLAGHAN
Eckersley O’Callaghan, a leader in innovative engineering and sustainable solutions, proudly announces the launch of GlazingRecovery. org, a groundbreaking platform aimed at transforming the recycling process of architectural glass. This initiative seeks to revolutionise the glass supply chain by fostering a circular economy where waste is minimised, and resources are reused.
A NEW ERA FOR GLASS RECYCLING
Architectural glass, essential for modern construction, typically has a long lifecycle. However, upon the end of its useful life— whether due to building renovations or demolitions—a substantial amount of this valuable material is discarded rather than recycled. GlazingRecovery.org addresses this critical issue by bridging the gap between glass production and recycling, ensuring post-consumer glass re-enters the supply chain instead of ending up in landfills.
“This initiative by Eckersley O’Callaghan to promote the recycling of glass should be applauded and its success will depend upon the involvement of the whole fenestration industry. The recycling of both UPVC and aluminium is now an established practice and it is hoped that, in a short time, the recycling of glass will become the norm. Guardian, Saint-Gobain and Pilkington, as well as the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), have all endorsed glazingrecovery.org and Glass News is pleased to be involved in helping to promote this important initiative.”
Chris
Champion, Editor, Glass News
DRIVING COLLABORATION AND BEST PRACTICES
More than just a directory, GlazingRecovery.org is a strategic initiative designed to transform how the construction industry handles glass. By promoting collaboration between the pre-consumer and post-consumer glass industries, the platform fosters a more sustainable approach to glass recycling. It also educates users on best practices for glass removal and separation, crucial for producing high-quality recycled glass, or cullet, which meets the rigorous standards required by manufacturer. Collaboration with the glass sector has been from other consultants (ARUP and Thornton Tomasetti) Flat glass manufacturers (Guardian, Saint-Gobain and Pilkington) and Trade associations (British Glass, Glass and Glazing Federation and Fensa) and others both up and down the supply chain.
A CALL TO ACTION FOR THE INDUSTRY
The launch of GlazingRecovery.org marks a significant step towards a sustainable future for glass. However, the success of this platform hinges on widespread industry engagement. By continuing to build a network of committed partners and promoting best practices, GlazingRecovery. org aims to divert the estimated 500,000 tonnes of glass removed from buildings annually away from landfills.
LEADING THE WAY TOWARDS A CIRCULAR ECONOMY
CONNECTING STAKEHOLDERS ACROSS THE GLASS INDUSTRY
The platform was created to unite various stakeholders within the glass supply chain, including producers, installers, and re-processors. Currently, smaller glass installers often lack direct access to recycling networks, leading to significant waste. GlazingRecovery.org serves as a central hub, providing an interactive map that connects these stakeholders and helps them locate nearby recycling facilities, making glass recycling more efficient and accessible.
As the construction industry continues to address its environmental impact, GlazingRecovery.org provides a blueprint for other sectors on how to approach the recycling and reuse of materials. This platform is not just a tool—it’s a movement towards a more sustainable future, ensuring every piece of glass is given a second life. For more information, visit GlazingRecovery.org.

VENTILATION FOR CONSERVATORIES AND ORANGERIES
When installing windows and doors into conservatories and orangeries, background ventilation should be a key consideration and compliance to regulations is best achieved by using natural background (passive) ventilation.
In June 2022, when Building Regulations changed in England and Wales, most of the focus was on the impact the new legislation would have companies in the supply chain who were replacing windows and doors in existing buildings. However, the same legislation (Approved Document F – means of ventilation) can also apply to window and door installation in conservatories and orangeries. In particular where the conservatory or orangery is connected to an existing habitable room (open plan), then the square metreage of the overall living space has to be factored in to the determine the requirements to comply with Building Regulations.
In addition to compliance, all installers and home improvement companies fitting windows and doors into conservatories and orangeries also have the opportunity to promote the benefits to homeowners of good ventilation such as improved air quality, thermal comfort, health and general wellbeing.
No matter what the situation, installing trickle vents on doors and windows in a conservatory, or orangery is the most practical and economical ventilation solution for window and door fabricators and installers. Using the award-winning Link Vent from Glazpart can help compliance and can overcome homeowners’ resistance to trickle ventilators.
Glazpart launched the innovative Link Vent in 2013 and since then, in 2022, in time for the legislative changes, the Link Vent 4000 was introduced to the range to meet the ventilation requirement for smaller rooms such as bathrooms and kitchens and for conservatories or orangeries that connect openly to other main rooms in the home.
The Link Vent has become the leading ventilation solution for building designers, window manufacturers/fabricators and installers and can be fitted to any type of material UPVC, aluminium and timber windows and doors.
The clever design of the Link Vent makes it simple to install and user friendly for both opening and closing - the innovative closing action allows the closure plate to be positioned so that it reduces draughts by directing air away from occupants.
Smart design, easy fitting, and functionality are fundamentals but it is the huge choice of colours and decorative finishes that sets Glazpart apart from the competition. The Link Vent is ideal for windows and doors as the colours can be perfectly matched to blend in with the overall design and look of the finished product.
“The Link Vent has become the leading ventilation solution for building designers, window manufacturers/fabricators and installers and can be fitted to any type of material UPVC, aluminium and timber windows and doors.”
For homeowners, the benefits go beyond aesthetics. The colours and finishes are extremely stable and resistant to UV rays, so homeowners can be safe in the knowledge that the vents will hold their colour in extreme weather conditions and constant exposure to the elements of weather, without noticeable fading.
At the start of 2024, Glazpart announced that its Link Vent premium finish ranges are now available in handy packs of either 10 canopies or internal vents to help companies only buy the stock they need and add more value, both in terms of revenue and aesthetic appeal for homeowners. The premium finishes available in the new size packs are the Premium Woodgrain range, Premium Vac Foiled range, Premium Sprayed Colours, Super Matt Finishes.
Dean Bradley, Glazpart Sales Director commented, “Homeowners have become more particular when it comes to the finished appearance of their doors and windows and this is even more so when they invest in a conservatory or orangery. Fabricators and installers need to ensure they can meet homeowners’ expectations not only by making their living spaces more habitable and healthier, but also by offering the widest colour range possible to ensure the vents are aesthetically pleasing. Glazpart’s Link Vent range can colour match a vast range of door and window frames and we can always manufacture at short notice to ensure we have our products readily available.”
When it comes to ventilation for conservatories and orangeries, Glazpart has the natural ventilation solution for fabricators and installers to ensure that homeowners are not just satisfied but are delighted with the finished job.
ARE YOU GETTING THE SERVICE YOU DESERVE?
Does your aluminium systems company provide reliable deliveries in 5 days, on all standard colour combinations?
Offer an additional 64 colour combinations in 10 days, and an OTIF that’s consistently better than 99%? Plus provide specials that are powder coated at a Qualicoat ‘Seaside’ approved paint plant in just 15 days?
If this doesn’t sound like your current aluminium system supplier, then it’s time to take a serious look at Sheerline – the UK’s most agile and customer focused aluminium systems company.
Nothing ruins a fabricator’s hard-earned reputation for good customer service like letting installers and homeowners down. Few things have such a negative impact on a production environment than products not turning up when you expect them to, or when there are missing components on an order.
That’s why all Sheerline orders come with an itemised delivery report, giving full visibility of what’s going to arrive, by job. We send these delivery reports to fabricators the day before the delivery is due, giving them time to rearrange their production plans if required – but with an OTIF that runs northwards of 99.4%, that doesn’t happen very often.

Sheerline is now offering versatile clip-on cills across its full range of products. There are two cills available:
one for the Prestige Lift & Slide
Patio Door and Classic Windows and Doors, and the other for the Prestige Bi-Folding Door and Prestige Windows and Doors.
Both cills have been developed by Sheerline’s experienced in-house R&D team and offer installation options to benefit certain projects. For example, it is easier to manoeuvre the brand’s patio or bi-folding doors around a production environment without a protruding cill attached.
Transporting the frames is hassle-free as they can be stacked with less chance of being damaged in transit.
For new build projects, it’s an ideal solution because the cill is protected from
potential damage from follow-on trades as they can be retrofitted.
In addition, the cills are prevented from collecting dirt and debris while they’re in situ and other work is taking place as they are fitted after the windows and doors have been installed.
Aside from the practical benefits, the clip-on cill also has aesthetic appeal. It looks stylish and effectively reduces the height of the bottom Outer Frame of the window by 25mm. This means there is a larger glazed area, which is useful for smaller cottage-style windows.
Sheerline’s National Sales Director, Tony Basile, said: “As a brand, Sheerline is continually innovating. The fact our R&D team developed this product in response to a customer request is testament to our commitment to our customers.”
“We recognise the importance of greater choice, flexibility, and offering the right product for every installation,” he added.
Customers can find out more about Sheerline’s Clipon Cill range by emailing info@sheerline.com or calling 01332 978000.

STELLAR ALUMINIUM FRAMES ADD DRAMA TO UNIQUE GLAMPING POD
Stellar Aluminium frames and doors manufactured and installed by GD Windows have brought drama to The TriPod, one of three glamorous pods situated on a working farm in Pantcefn near Llanarth in Mid Wales.
Gwyn Davies, Director at GD Windows said: “The Tri-Pod allowed us to show off the versatility and style of Stellar Aluminium. The slim frames maximise the light in the space and put all the focus on the spectacular countryside views.”
The Tri-Pod features full height Stellar Aluminium frames and a set of Fully Flush French Doors to the front aspect. The products were manufactured in black on both sides to complement the black external cladding, while the fully flush finish delivers a sleek contemporary style.
Every element of The Tri-Pod was carefully considered to create a luxurious retreat. Gwyn said: “The owners of The Tri-Pod knew every fixture and fitting needed to be highquality to deliver the ultimate holiday experience. Stellar Aluminium was integral to creating this feeling.”
Stellar Aluminium’s renowned thermal efficiency was also an important part of the project. The system is Part L-compliant by design, even in new build projects, helping to ensure The Tri-Pod is cosy inside on even the coldest of days. It achieves the impressive thermal efficiency thanks to the patented reverse butt joint, which means there’s no need for dummy sashes, reverse profiles or adaptors, thereby reducing the amount of frame and increasing the thermal efficiency.
"The Tri-Pod project highlights how our system not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also delivers outstanding thermal performance."
Phil Parry, Technical Director at Epwin Window Systems, commented: “Stellar Aluminium continues to demonstrate why it is a market leader in product innovation and design. The Tri-Pod project highlights how our system not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also delivers outstanding thermal performance. We are delighted to see GD Windows utilising Stellar to its full potential.”
GD Windows is based in Aberporth in Ceredigion and has over 30 years’ experience in the industry. As a trusted and
longstanding fabricator of Stellar Aluminium, the company is proud to work with designers, architects and builders to deliver bespoke solutions for new builds and renovation projects. FENTRADE SHOWCASES EXCEPTIONAL ATTENTION TO DETAIL IN HERITAGE PROJECT
Specialist aluminium fabricator Fentrade has demonstrated the skill of its team on a recent project for longstanding customer Windows Are Us.
The project involved the manufacture of several aluminium screens and doors using the Jack Aluminium SD70 Heritage system. These frames needed to be custommanufactured to fit an entire corner of a building. Additionally, one side of the building featured three different levels, yet every astragal bar and transom needed to align perfectly, ensuring the high end aesthetics were delivered.
Chris Reeks, Managing Director at Fentrade, takes up the story: “It was back to the drawing board for the Fentrade team! We went old-school, using graph paper and pencils to carefully calculate the dimensions
across the frames as a whole. Even a single miscalculation would have thrown the entire project off balance, so absolute precision was critical.”
The Fentrade team worked closely with Windows Are Us and their trade customer to ensure every detail was meticulously addressed. This dedication extended to revising the layout from scratch to accommodate changes in the overall frame dimensions, ensuring the project’s precision and quality remained uncompromised.
The results have more than justified the effort involved. The Jack Aluminium SD70 Heritage system has given the homeowner the traditional aesthetics they desired, along with the modern advantages of contemporary aluminium glazing. At the same time, the meticulous calculations and
precision manufacturing have ensured that every sightline aligned perfectly, delivering the exceptional high-quality finish the project demanded.
Chris concluded: “There were countless hours of work involved in this project, and seeing the finished result brings immense satisfaction. It looks outstanding and stands as a true testament to the skills and expertise of the Fentrade team.”
Windows Are Us is based in Stratford-uponAvon and works across Warwickshire and the Cotswolds. Its team has considerable experience in the home improvement industry, and it brings a professional and detailed approach to every project.

The new village hall was a five-year project that saw the original 1930s hall demolished and a brand new one built in its place. The project cost £1.35m and attracted funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, the Welsh Government Community Facilities Programme and the UK Government Community Ownership Fund.
The main contractor on the project was Jamson Estates Ltd, with the fenestration element provided by GD Windows.

EPWIN WINDOW SYSTEMS PRODUCTS
SELECTED FOR LUXURY HOLIDAY RETREAT
Stellar Aluminium and Profile 22 PVC-U windows and doors from Epwin Window Systems were selected for a luxury selfcatering holiday home located in the scenic Cardigan Bay, Wales. The high-end property refurbishment was awarded to GD Windows, an experienced fabricator and installer with over 30 years’ experience in private and commercial projects.
The Courtyard provides luxurious selfcatering accommodation set within the grounds of a Georgian mansion,
surrounded by 50 acres of pasture and woodlands on the Glaneirw Estate in Ceredigion. In 2013, the current owner started an extensive refurbishment programme, transforming the main mansion and its surrounding estate buildings. The Courtyard was meticulously renovated to an exceptionally high standard, preserving original features such as slate floors and terracotta tiles and combining with high-end modern fenestration solutions including aluminium bifold doors and flush casement windows. All products were carefully considered to maximise the stunning views of the breathtaking countryside.
Gwyn Davies, Director at GD Windows said: “The owners of The Courtyard wanted to use high quality products that combined comfort and superior sophistication. The combination of Stellar Aluminium and Profile 22 ticked all the boxes.”
GD Windows installed two five-pane Stellar Slimline Bifold Doors, each 5m x 2m which
fully opened up the rear elevation of the property. Additionally, a four-pane Slimline Bifold Door of 4m x 2m was also fitted to the rear elevation. The installation also included a four-pane Lift and Slide Stellar Door, along with a corner window featuring two fanlights above a fixed light. Over 20 Profile 22 Flush Casement Windows completed the transformation. All products were finished in Anthracite Grey on both sides, creating a striking contrast with the building’s cream stone exterior and adding a sophisticated touch to the interior design.
GD Windows took full responsibility for the manufacture and installation of all products, collaborating closely with other trades on-site to ensure seamless project coordination and a flawless execution. Their attention to detail and commitment to quality helped maintain the project’s momentum, delivering a meticulous finish
that met the high standards expected for this luxury development.
Overall Stellar Aluminium and Profile 22 have significantly enhanced the luxurious appeal of the property, contributing to an experience that continues to attract repeat visitors.
Gwyn concluded: “We’re proud to manufacture and install Stellar Aluminium because it’s a window and door system that’s at the forefront of product innovation. With its outstanding thermal performance, high security, incredible durability, sleek minimalist design, and ability to offer better views and an elevated lifestyle, Stellar truly stands out. The Courtyard was an exceptional project to work on and we are delighted with the finished result.”

SENIOR BRINGS LIGHT AND SHADE TO NEW HOTEL SCHEME
Dual coloured and slim framed aluminium fenestration solutions from Senior Architectural Systems have helped bring architectural interest to the external façade of a new multi-storey hotel in Coventry whilst ensuing the interior spaces benefit from plenty of natural light.
Constructed by main contractor Bowmer and Kirkland, Hotel Indigo Coventry has been designed by architects Chapman Taylor and boasts a striking exterior which features Senior’s popular SF52 aluminium curtain wall system and SPW600 aluminium windows throughout. The leading manufacturer’s SPW501 aluminium commercial entrance doors were also specified, with the full glazing package fabricated and installed by specialist contractor Acorn Aluminium.
Senior’s in-house powder coating service was instrumental to achieving the desired aesthetic for the hotel’s exterior façade which required the aluminium fenestration systems to complement the use of striking silver-blue metallic cladding. Opting for a dual colour finish, Senior’s aluminium fenestration systems were powder-coated in anthracite grey on the exterior and grey-blue to the interior of the frames. The SF52 curtain walling has been installed in columns that run the length of the building, with the metallic cladding installed in between. The darker colour of the aluminium curtain wall and inset windows add depth the building, with the recessed columns of glazing complementing the lighter shade of the façade material.
In addition to design flexibility, the slim frames of Senior’s SF52 curtain wall system and SPW600 aluminium windows have helped to create a comfortable interior
environment by maximising the flow of natural daylight and providing exceptional thermal-efficiency to achieve the desired U-values.

IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU...
Where you were born and live currently
I was born in Lincoln, and we moved to Yorkshire in 1980 and I have lived in a village near Wetherby, ever since. It’s a lovely place, and what is great is that my parents, siblings and I all live within 500 yards of each other. Though we can go for weeks without bumping into each other, surprisingly!
Your education and the subject or activity in which you excelled I went to school in my village and always enjoyed the art side of things. A handful of us were asked to produce an art mural in Leeds on the subject of recycling. This was back in 1991, well before the whole subject of recycling became fashionable. We were ahead of our time!
I’m still into art and I create abstract art pieces, jewellery and clothing. I’m always experimenting with clothes and colours and my hair has become an artform in itself, I’ve
always done quirky things with my nails…. they’re just a smaller canvas.
Sport was always a passion at School, and I was always a fast runner. I sprinted in 100 and 200 metres, but also the 1,500 metres, although the javelin was probably my main event. I was amazed to find out from my children (who are now at my old school), that they now throw foam javelins! What happened to the old metal/aluminium ones? Perhaps it’s to keep the teachers safe!
Your favourite sports or interests Not a sport, but I’ve recently got back into meditation and reading. I love helping my girls with their school/college art projects, but not when they pinch my stock. Listening to metal and rock music with my son, and especially listening to him play his electric and acoustic guitars! I have three children to look after and raise, always juggling, but is fun. Where did the time go? My eldest daughter is now learning to drive and soon to be joining me for a glass of wine in one of our local bars.
The art side is still relevant to me, and it is a form of expression. I’ve also always loved
THIS MONTH: Emma Champion, Advertising Manager, Glass News
Emma has been in the industry since 2018, and still thinks of herself as a newbie. From her time in the telecoms industry through to PR and Promotions and Ecommerce Software, she has always worked with clients, building relationships and making friends. Glass News has been a continuation of that trend:
“It’s the people that make this industry,” she says, “and it’s a pleasure to work with great clients, and especially to be part of the Glass News Team, who are all very supportive and always up for a giggle!”
swimming and although I don’t get much time for it now. I get very tempted by the open water of the Cumbrian Lakes when we go there for our annual holiday with my siblings, parents and all the children plus a dog. It’s a mad time and very busy, but its lovely to spend time together.
I had always wanted to teach art, and I was asked to mentor over 30 Year 1 children for art at the local primary school and I ended up helping with reading and writing and going in to help every Friday and then got
pulled into other classes. Great fun and very satisfying but not a paying career!
One thing I should mention is my love of classic and quirky cars. My first car was my Granny’s F reg 850 Mini, then my Grandad’s D reg Triumph 1300. I also had another Mini, though I treated myself to a Cooper this time, and I now drive a Cube…. If you don’t know what it is, think funky Postman Pat Van.
I love nature and wildlife, and I am so lucky to have the River Wharf literally on my doorstep. Usually, you see people walking by the river with their dogs, me… I take little mice for a walk and rehouse them there.
Your biggest regret in life
I don’t really believe in regrets as these are the things that make you who you are. Everything’s a lesson and it’s how you react to situations that’s important. I guess a missed opportunity can be counted as a regret. I

My upcycled clothing
was in a department store a good few years ago, to buy a load of jeans that I was going to paint on, destroy and decorate, I realised a lady was watching me, we got talking, she was intrigued, asking what I was doing. I explained to her about the upcycling of plain jeans into something different, and she commented on my style, the clothes I was wearing, and asked if I would be prepared to be interviewed for Hello magazine. It was at the time I was going through a divorce and had bigger problems on my mind, so declined the offer. Big mistake!
The temptation you can’t resist…
When my children and I moved into our first home together after our life changed, I went shopping with a friend and I found a face vase, she bought it for me as a housewarming gift, and now this has become a bit of an obsession with myself and my kids. As now we collect them, we have found them in different colours and sizes, and the collection continues to grow, even friends keep an eye out for them and grab them for us while out and about.
Someone or something that inspires you
It’s really just me. I was always the strange, weird kid with stripey leggings, wild hair and Doc Martens. In fact, I got married wearing white Doc Martens, with funky hair, and nails, but I did wear a beautiful dress!
I was asked to model for James Steward, the dress designer, as he wanted to show
the edgy side and that anyone, even me, could wear his dresses. I wore para boots underneath them. He knew that would happen, ha ha.
Perhaps I should have gone into modelling and Voice Overs as a telecommunications company had me recording their ‘phone messages and modelling headsets and pagers….very glam. Samsung, Nokia, Motorola, BT and others got to know about it and asked for me and wanted to get my nails or hair in the picture, and they even
industry it has to be the friendliest industry going. The hardest thing is keeping up with the ever-moving people from one company to another but always within fenestration. The FIT Show is one of my favourite events and if there is music and a bar, you’ll find Christina and I dancing in the aisles. Come and say hello at the FIT Show 2025!
requested I bring in my own clothes to style it. Local radio wanted me to do a morning show at 6am each morning. How do you do that and juggle three kids for school, so that was a no.
YOUR CAREER...
When and how you joined the Industry
I joined Glass News in 2018 and prior to that I was Account Executive at Frontline Promotions, working on a variety of weird and wonderful accounts. I managed a vast database for a national car dealership business on the one hand, while sourcing all sorts of strange items for clients. For instance, one client wanted adults to be dressed as snooker balls for the Snooker World Championships and I had to search out the costumes, I used to write copy for the packaging for brands such as building products companies and both sweets and biscuit manufacturers. Lots of freebies to take home! I ended up doing modelling for Arriva trains….I always seem to get pulled into shoots of some description. Missed opportunities!
At the time of the boom and bust of e-commerce I was involved in ecommerce website building software and the launching of industry portals. There were many entertaining stories from those times, not least a company that developed an early version of an Oyster type card. It was trialled in a large midland city and was so sensitive that a bus driving by a bus stop would suck the cash straight off the cards of those standing there! Back to the drawing board! I guess my surname is a clue to how I joined Glass News and although new to the
The job you do
I’m the Advertising Manager at Glass News and work with my regular clients while always looking for new ones. Don’t be shy….I’m easy to talk to! My clothes maybe a little odd, but otherwise I’m just me.
Your greatest achievement
My kids, being there for them, supporting and helping them navigate their lives. Not easy on your own, but they’re all growing up to be great young, spirited adults.!
AND YOUR FUTURE...
What would you like to do if you weren’t in this industry?
It would definitely be art based and painting is my real passion. Colour and texture can have an effect on how you feel and can both inspire and depress depending on your choice. It’s all down to personal preference and for me strong and strident colours make me feel good.
A particular ambition
Apart from the art side, my real ambition is to have my books published, so to be a known author would be a dream fulfilled! I am writing a series of children’s books and, as ever, time is the issue, but I’ve made a start and starting is the biggest hurdle to overcome.
The way you want to be remembered...
I’ve never thought about this properly, usually joked about it… I guess, as everyone, it would be lovely to be thought of as, a kindhearted, caring and a strong woman who was always true to herself, with a silly laugh! Oh and always wore large boots.

NEW SHOOTBOLT OPTIONS FROM VBH
Hardware specialist VBH has introduced two new greenteQ shootbolt systems for outward opening casement windows.
greenteQ iQ Intellect is a non-crop shootbolt that speeds up the fitting process and generates no wasted hardware through offcuts.
It covers sash rebate sizes up to a door-like 1800mm.
VBH advise that adjustable mushroom bolt cams in the middle of the window and adjacent to the projecting shootbolts ensure exceptional weather proofing and effective burglar resistance to the PAS24 security standard.
Intellect utilises modern, strong, low-friction materials, and a clever keep design guides the mushroom bolts into position. Coupled with projecting shootbolts manufactured from steel-reinforced ultra-low friction polymer, this makes for a combination of extremely smooth operation and high strength.
The second newcomer, iQ Superior, combines two bi-directional hooks on the gearbox with adjustable mushroom-headed cams and shootbolts on the extensions to provide exceptional security performance and weather proofing on windows with sash rebate sizes up to 1500mm.
Like iQ Intellect and the original greenteQ Invicta shootbolt, iQ Superior has been independently tested to the PAS24 security standard. Both new shootbolts are approved for use on Q-secure PREMIUM Plus installations.
greenteQ shootbolts are available in industry-standard 20 and 22mm backsets, so are compatible with most popular PVCu profile systems.
VBH also advise that, as with all greenteQ iQ products, both Superior and Intellect work with Kubu to link windows to a smart home network. This gives the user a host of benefits, including a live check on the open/closed status of windows, security alerts, weather alerts and more. The windows can even be linked to other elements in the network, so the heating can be set to turn off in a room if a window is opened, for example.
Dan Powell, Head of Brand at VBH says, “Our original iQ security espagnolette proved so popular that it was an easy decision to introduce more casement lock options that are compatible with Kubu.
“Including our original Invicta product, we now have three greenteQ shootbolts for fabricators to choose from. This will increase to four later this year when we unveil another Invicta variant. I’m looking forward to telling you more nearer the time!”
Contact VBH direct on 01634 263300 or by email at info@vbhgb.com for information on the expanding casement hardware range or any other product.

HAFFNER SHORTLISTED FOR G AWARD
Leading machinery supplier Haffner has been shortlisted for the new Machinery Innovation Award at this year’s G Awards.
Matt Thomas, Haffner’s Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted this year. It’s the third nomination in a row for us. We’ve been fortunate to have won our category in previous years, so we’re keeping our fingers firmly crossed we can make it three in a row this year!”
Haffner has been shortlisted for its KT 80850 Assembly Table for Door Sash because it eliminates the time-consuming manual alignment of a door outer frame and sash. The KT Table increases consistency, accuracy and speed, allowing a fabricator to manufacture one door every five minutes. It is a transformational solution for every volume door manufacturer.
Matt said: “Ensuring the outer frame and sash align consistently in door manufacturing is essential for both hinge placement and aesthetics. For high volume door manufacturers in particular, this is a
significant issue that slows down production rates and impacts quality, ultimately taking money away from the bottom line. Several fabricators approached us to develop a solution and in response, we developed the KT 808-50 Assembly Table for Door Sash
(KT Table), which optimises sash assembly by combining different processes on a single table.”

A LASTING LEGACY FOR GRADE II
LISTED RESIDENTIAL REFURB
Quickslide’s Legacy uPVC sliding sash windows have helped to transform a substantial, Georgian Grade II listed building, underlining Legacy’s credentials as a marketleading, high-performance solution for challenging heritage projects that demand a highly authentic product to satisfy strict planning regulations.
A total of 24 Legacy sliding sash windows were installed, together with one arched sash frame and two casement windows, all supplied by Quickslide in a white woodgrain finish, transforming the energy efficiency, aesthetics and security of the residential property.
The quality and attention to detail of the Legacy windows, featuring a range of outstanding heritage details such as a realistic timber-look finish, 90° mechanical corner joints, a Georgian-inspired full grid bar layout, and a deep bottom rail, were key to securing the required Listed Building Consent (LBC). These features not only ensured compliance with strict planning regulations but also perfectly complemented the building's historical character, preserving its authentic Georgian aesthetic.
Homeowner, Andrew, commented: “When we bought the property, which dates back to the early 1800s, it was in a bad state of repair and the windows, which had been replaced in the 1980s, were rotting, unsecure and in some places were being held together by Duck tape.
“We urgently needed to replace them, but doing so with timber windows wasn’t a
viable option because of the cost and the timescale. After researching alternatives, we discovered that a neighbouring house had been renovated with Quickslide windows and we realised that they offered the most realistic period style for our own property – and that was confirmed when the local planning authority granted us the vital LBC that we required for the renovation.
“Replacing the windows has breathed new life into the house,” he continued. “We love the sliding sashes, the astragal bars and especially the sunburst effect in the large arched window. The tilt mechanism also allows us to clean the new windows from the inside, which is a big bonus on a threestory property!”
Quickslide invested £1.7million last year on a bespoke machining centre ahead of the relaunch of the Legacy VS, and a further £1 million has been earmarked for automation in 2024. The Brighouse based fabricator has also introduced a new online tool, called Legacy On-Screen, which enables trade partners to promote Legacy on their websites with all the latest info, images and technical details.
Ben Weber, Quickslide’s Managing Director, commented: “Legacy took the market by storm when it was originally launched five years ago, but thanks to recent refinements it’s an even closer match to traditional sash windows than ever before.
“This includes a new midrail, which is now just 37mm and we’ve re-engineered the sash horns so that that the woodgrain foiled end caps run seamlessly with the shape of the horn – making Legacy almost indistinguishable from real timber vertical sliders.”
Available in a wide range of colours, including authentic woodgrains, and with a broad selection of heritage-style hardware options, more details on the Legacy sliding sash can be found at www.quickslide.co.uk.
ARE INSTALLERS ON TREND?
Andy Royle, director and cofounder of Leads 2 Trade, discusses the latest trends in the home improvement market from a lead generation perspective.
What are the standout product trends you've seen from consumers over the last eight months?
Windows and doors have always been in high demand, but this year we've noticed some interesting shifts. There's been a significant spike in inquiries for single doors, particularly composite doors, which have become incredibly popular among homeowners looking to make a statement with their front doors.
Another trend we're seeing is the evolution of the traditional conservatory. While we've always been strong in conservatory leads, there's a clear move towards what I'd call 'modern orangeries' or single-storey extensions. These spaces are all about open-plan living, often incorporating the kitchen and featuring bifold doors. It's a trend that really
speaks to how homeowners are reimagining their living spaces.
How are traditional conservatory companies adapting to this shift?
Many of our conservatory installer members are pivoting to meet this new demand. They're now offering single-storey extensions that still incorporate a lot of glass to maintain that bright, airy feel that conservatories are known for. It's a clever adaptation that allows them to meet the changing preferences of homeowners.
Are there any renovation trends you've noticed for existing conservatories?
In the last two-three years, we've seen a resurgence in homeowners looking to update their traditional Edwardian or Victorian conservatories. Many of these structures originally have polycarbonate or glass roofs, but now there's a strong demand for retrofitting them with solid tile roofs, which gives the conservatory more of an extension feel and improves its usability all year-round.
Can you give us an idea of the volume of leads you're generating in response to these changing consumer demands?
Since launching in 2006, we've built up a robust network of lead
generation channels, including well-established organic ranked assets, paid search platforms like Google AdWords, and a strong affiliate network. The volume can fluctuate seasonally, but on average, we're generating approximately 3,000 to 4,000 raw inquiries per week. These come in as web form submissions, which our call centre then double qualifies directly with the consumer before passing them on to our installer members.
How do you ensure the quality of these leads for your installers?
Quality is paramount for us, which is why we have a rigorous double qualification process. Once an inquiry comes in, our trained call centre staff contact the consumer directly. This allows us to verify the details of the inquiry, assess the project's viability, and ensure that the lead is genuinely valuable for our installer members. Our members can receive these leads in postcodes of their choice in several ways, including our appointment leads, where we book and arrange a firm and fixed appointment with the consumer, and they only pay for the lead if they sit and pitch it, and our hot key transfer leads, which we can transfer live to an installer sales team.

ROSEVIEW’S NO-HOLES-PARRED CHARITY GOLF MARATHON
Four directors from well-known sash window manufacturer Roseview Windows have taken part in the G72 golf challenge, in support of the Princess Alice Hospice. Princess Alice Hospice provides free palliative and end of life care for patients and their families. The hospice recently looked after a close family member of the Roseview team. In response Roseview held the charity event to support the Hospice’s work with much-needed funds. In doing so they raised £6,570.
Roseview’s directors took on the G72 golf marathon, playing four full rounds of golf in 24 hours. Describing the challenge, Roseview director Tim Bygrave said: “Four rounds of golf in a single day is surprisingly difficult, especially when none of us have played for years. Choosing what turned out to be the hottest day of the year didn’t help either! We teed off at 5am, just as the sun was rising. The last putt went in at 9pm as the sun set. We only stopped for half an hour in the middle of the day.
“Over the course of the day, between us we played thousands of shots and lost dozens of golf balls. But the sense of achievement when we’d finished and—more importantly—the money raised for Princess Alice Hospice definitely made it worthwhile.”
Roseview’s managing director Richard Burrells also took part in the challenge: “It turns out that seventy-two holes in a one day is really tough. But it was well worth it, given the reason we were doing it and the charity we were supporting.
“On behalf of Roseview I’d like to thank all the customers, suppliers and friends who have been so generous with their donations. We did this at short notice, so for people to have donated more than £6,500 in a few short weeks is fantastic. I’d also like to thank REHAU, who not only donated financially, they also supplied all the golf balls. We needed them!”.

DANNY WILLIAMS ‘COLD CALLING’
Each month our special correspondent Danny Williams* replies to a reader’s letter...
“If we want to build a good business should it be a case of ‘dog eat dog’ or is there still a place for honesty and fair dealing? I only ask because the example set by our politicians is to lie through your teeth and get your nose firmly in the trough for your own good and bugger everyone else.”
JW, Commercial and Retail Installer, Oxfordshire
Your note to me, JW, suggests that you might be a regular reader of my diatribes. These will have indicated the direction of my politics, which might be considered ‘pragmatic’ by some and distinctly right wing by some of the (few, surely?) simpering liberals that might read this illustrious organ.
However, whatever the colour of your politics, how many will disagree that politicians, generally, have a poor reputation when it comes to the concept of ‘trust’.
There was barely a week that passed without some scandal or another breaking under the last government but before the one or two Labour supporters amongst you that might be reading this start bleating on about the honesty and propriety of members of that particular race, perhaps we should remind you that Angela Rayner, for one, seems unable to open her mouth without uttering an untruth,. Even Sir Starmer is now regularly eating his pre-election words and promises and squarely blaming the Tories for their deceptions. Come on….how daft do you think we all are? Very, unfortunately. The upshot of all this is that I do agree that British society seems to be less caring and more ‘dog eat dog’ than it was, even pre Covid. However, this is a subjective view, and even if it is true, that does not mean that we have to simply follow that trend in our own lives and especially in our businesses, where
we are able to set and maintain the codes and standards by which we operate. In that world, JW, our word is law.
My regular reader will also know my attitude towards customer service, something about which I feel more passionately even than my views about Britain’s shirkers and scroungers. Recently I received one of the best compliments ever when one of our newer customers said to me: “I feel I am important to you Danny.” That means everything to me.
We work in an industry that is amazingly parochial JW. It’s like a village, one in which everyone knows everyone else and where also, news of bad behaviour, especially, spreads quickly. For fabricators, mutual loyalty with our key suppliers is a crucial element of business, one that I dwelled upon in this column, last month. Installers – which make up a significant part of our customer base – can switch at the drop of a hat.
Many will do so for a few pence off the price of a window, always chasing down the cheapest deal. But increasingly in my experience, installers are smarter and more loyal to their core suppliers, realising that the success of their business is determined to a very large degree, by the performance of their key suppliers – usually their fabricators.
I remember a row, back a couple of years now, when a couple of systems companies told their customers and anyone that would listen, that use of reinforcement other than the stuff they sold, would invalidate their warranties. My response was that this was all utter tosh, because I cannot remember ever activating a sysco warranty. Ever. Simply because it never gets that far.
When there is an issue with an installation it must be dealt with – and immediately.
Broken units? No problem. Mismeasure? Make a new one, and quickly. Wrong handle? Send one over now.
The buck stops with us, the fabricator. Even if the issue isn’t of our making, we will work it out between us to make sure the job is completed quickly to to everyone’s satisfaction, especially the homeowner. We can work out the details later.
But to make this happen there must be honesty and openness and accessibility between us. And we must be prepared to take responsibility for any situation and get it resolved quickly. These are simple rules. And essential in a B2B environment. Something that some door brands in our industry simply do not accept or practice, and I will do my best to avoid trading with them.
To summarise JW, ‘Dog Eat Dog’ is absolutely NOT the way to build a sound business at all in my view and especially not one in which the owners have any pride in and enjoy getting up in the morning. There are some fine brands in the window and door industry – my primary systems supplier Deceuninck is one of them – and when we do business with them it’s a partnership, not ‘them and us’.
And that is precisely how I want our customers to treat us, as partners. Those that want the cheapest prices can go find them; but when the brown stuff hits the fan, they know that we will dig them out of a hole whatever the problem might be.
The politicians will continue to lie and cheat and line their own nests, however principled they may have been when they began their political careers. We have a choice JW, dog eat dog is NOT the way to go for a business such as ours.
* Danny Williams is managing director of Chelmsford based Pioneer Trading and has been involved with all aspects of the windows and doors industry for 30 years. His activities include manufacturing a full range of windows and doors in PVC-U and aluminium, an IGU
retailing and commercial contracting.

Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) has announced that from September 2024, it will be launching a new virtual learning facility; courses will be delivered via an online classroom, connecting DHF trainers and delegates in realtime to complete training wherever they might be.
At the very heart of DHF’s operations is its extensive training programmes, created to keep the industry informed on the importance of putting safe and compliant products on the market.
“Over the past 10 years, DHF has trained more than 5,000 delegates on DHF courses either faceto-face or via the Distance Learning Programme,” explains DHF’s Commercial Director, Patricia Sowsbery-Stevens.
“Virtual learning will combine elements of both and provide delegates with the opportunity to complete a DHF training course remotely at a location of choice but still receive live interaction from a DHF trainer and other delegates attending the course. Our trainers are renowned experts in the industry (a reputation we are extremely proud of) and provide a wealth of experience and knowledge.”
Examinations will be completed remotely throughout the course
via the Online Training Academy, enabling delegates to receive instant results. Once the course has been completed, successful delegates will be able to download their certificates from the Online Training Academy.
“Virtual learning eliminates the need to travel and provides accessibility to DHF training courses wherever delegates might be located,” says Patricia. “These enable savings on travel costs, time away from site, and contribute to the reduction of carbon footprint.”
Virtual learning is currently only available for the Level 2 Awards in Safety for Automated Gates & Traffic Barriers and Industrial & Garage Doors, and as with face-to-face training this course will run from 9am - 5pm with given breaks throughout the day. ABBE Accreditation can still be added onto virtual learning courses starting from £40+ VAT.
