Golden memories for class of 1969
some lovely ones set in the classroom that, no doubt, brought back some fond school yard memories. The planned reunions originated in 2014 when the society celebrated 60 years of high school education in Maleny with a reunion for the original students on their Pioneer Day. In 2015 a reunion was held for students who started high school from 1955 to 1960 and each following year the corresponding golden class has been celebrated. Next year 2020 will mark the golden milestone of the class of 1970. To find out more about next year’s reunion or future Maleny school reunions visit www.historicalsocietymaleny.com.

Maleny Cultural and Historical Society hosted a golden class reunion on Sunday, October 13, for Maleny students who started high school in 1969, which included students who joined or left the cohort at any time. The reunion was hosted at the Maleny Pioneer Village with a morning tea, official welcome and lunch celebration to mark the milestone, followed by a tour of Maleny State School. Historical Society vice president Desley Malone said that every year the society planned to host a 50-year school reunion at the village. “This year we celebrated the class of 1969, which was well attended. The reunion included students who joined that class at any year level during the 12 years at the Maleny State School. This class started year 1 in 1962 and graduated year 12 in 1973,” Desley said. Following the official welcome and presentations in the Car Club, local community photographer Marsha Kelly took some group photos, including
