Landsborough level crossing closure Planning to travel through Landsborough on the weekend? If so, take note, as you won’t be able to cross the train line as you normal do. Queensland Rail (QR) plans to close the Caloundra Street level crossing from 1am Saturday, June 1 until 5am Monday, June 3 while it undertakes some track maintenance works. “Next weekend, the Caloundra Street level crossing at Landsborough will be completely renewed, with crews excavating the road beneath the crossing to renew the formation, ballast, track and lay new asphalt to keep it safe for road and rail users,” QR CEO Nick Easy said. “This important work will keep the road at the crossing safe and in good condition for up to another 15 years.” Mr Easy said buses would replace trains during the closure between Bowen Hills and Gympie North, Shorncliffe and Kippa-Ring stations. For more information about the track closure visit https://translink.com.au/service-updates/227471. In a notice handed to Landsborough businesses, QR apologised for the inconvenience, as well as the noise that local residents will experience as a result of the track works. Traffic and pedestrians will be detoured, with cars directed to the Caloundra Street North level crossing (past the school) and foot traffic having to go up and over the tracks at the train station.

Another Landsborough in-fill proposal

It appears QR may not have been aware of local events, as they scheduled the level crossing closure for the same weekend as the Maleny Show, which could cause problems for people travelling to and from Maleny on Saturday. The level crossing closure is unrelated to plans for an overpass and the subsequent permanent closure of the current crossing. A reference group of Landsborough business, community and resident representatives was formed in late April after a public forum on the rail overpass proposal organised by the Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle. The reference group will aim to take account of all sides and all perspectives and form a cohesive vision to ensure the eventual overpass plans work best for the future of Landsborough. To find out more about the reference group and its activities, follow the updates on Mark McArdle’s webpage – www.markmcardlemp.com/ landsborough-rail-overpass-proposal.

Landsborough appears to be a hot-spot for infill development with yet another application submitted to Sunshine Coast Council to split up an existing large residential lot. The 11,440m2 block at 49 LandsboroughMaleny Road, just up the hill from Peace Park cricket oval, is to be split into seven house lots and two drainage/open space reserves. The existing residence is to be maintained on one of the new lots. The housing blocks will range in size from 756m2 to 1025m2. Engineering plans submitted with the application also show future development on the adjoining block (41 LandsboroughMaleny Road) containing a further five housing lots. The proposal appears to be consistent with the low density residential zoning of the area. Therefore, the council has deemed the development as ‘code assessable’, meaning it will not be advertised and no public submissions can be made.
