Hi Everyone...
on the Cover
Our Division 1 representative Cr Rick Baberowski sent me an email late last week to let me know he will submit a notice of motion for the next ordinary meeting of Sunshine Coast Council on November 14. His motion is in relation to what he describes as recent debates about council’s alleged lack of transparency and the perception that council overuses confidential sessions, which is starting to erode public trust in council and the democratic process. Cr Baberowski's motion will propose two elements. First, making live video and recordings of council meetings available online. Second, using the same technology to record the confidential parts of meetings. Once the reasons for an issue remaining confidential have passed, the recordings should be made available to the public. Cr Baberowski has also advised that he is open to suggestions about how to improve his proposals and that he intends to work with the community, his council colleagues and council staff to work out how to secure the support of the council for these changes. Local building designers win national awards By Sonia Clark Maleny-based Norman Richards building design + interiors received three award feathers in an already impressive cap of industry and public accolades at the National Association of Building Designers Awards held on October 23. Noted for their innovative and elegant low environmental impact buildings and interiors, the company's local projects to date have included the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve Rainforest Discover Centre (in collaboration with Guymer Bailey Architects), the Maleny Community Centre refurbishment, Maleny Indoor Activity Centre and Glass on Glasshouse luxury accommodation. The building design business received three Queensland awards for outstanding design and interiors for the Mary Cairncross Discovery Centre and R-B House a private residential renovation. Building designer Norman said it had been many years since they had entered their designs for awards so their win at this year's state awards was an unexpected delight. “We were absolutely floored to have won at a national level. We were up against the best of the best so it was incredible to be honoured in this way,” Norman said. Designer Fiona Briody reiterated Norman’s sentiments and added that designing the Mary Cairncross Discovery Centre in collaboration with Guymer Bailey Architects was wonderful as it was a unique and important site for the Sunshine Coast and for visitors.

“We prioritised local materials that reflect the natural setting including blackbutt, tallowwood and ironbark timber for warmth, and local basalt stone for texture. We also re-used materials from the original buildings where possible,” Fiona said. R-B House was originally a four-bay shed that was renovated into an elegant and comfortable family residence on a tight budget. With a goal to make their designs look as simple and effortless as possible, one of the key skills of the design team is that they put an incredible amount of thought, effort and attention to detail to ensure a finished product that is in harmony with its site and environment. “We don’t advertise ourselves as eco designers. Sustainable design is just good design - design that gives a sense of space, uses less materials, less embodied energy and minimises artificial heating and cooling,” Fiona said. Plenty of locals will be happy to know they will be able to escape the heat and spend more time in the water with Ewen Maddock Dam set to remain open over summer before the rescheduled upgrade begins early next year. Natural Resources Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said the upgrades would now be delivered in two stages to minimise the closure of recreation areas. “The new staged approach will reduce the amount of time water levels are lowered and also minimise the duration of closures to the lake’s recreation areas,” Dr Lynham said. On-water recreation, including a designated swimming and beach area, will now remain open during summer. Seqwater had re-issued a tender for the project after the initial process in July 2019 did not result in any viable tenders. “Seqwater undertook a post-tender review to gauge the feedback from potential bidders and has updated the timing and scope of the project,” Dr Lynham said. “The project will now be delivered in two stages with the lake lowering and embankment work to
take place next year after the wet season. This will be followed by work on the spillway in 2021.” Work is expected to take up to 18 months, subject to weather conditions and other unexpected delays. To undertake the upgrade safely, the lake’s water level needs to be lowered to about 60 per cent of its full supply level. Seqwater will maximise production from its Ewen Maddock water treatment plant over summer and ahead of any lowering as well as making its required environmental releases. “The upgrade of Ewen Maddock will increase the dam's resilience to extreme events and bring the dam in line with modern engineering design standards," Dr Lynham said. "The revised construction schedule will not increase any risks to dam safety.” Seqwater will continue to update the community on the project as it develops and a community information event on the project is planned to take place at the Ewen Maddock wetlands area on Saturday, November 9 from 8am - 12noon. See ad on page 6.

Council’s transparency under question Sunshine Coast Division 1 councillor Rick Baberowski has submitted a notice of motion (NOM) to the council’s CEO Michael Whittaker to be tabled at the next ordinary meeting on Thursday, November 14. Cr Baberowski said he has been following the recent debates about council’s alleged lack of transparency. “I think the perception that council overuses confidential sessions is starting to erode public trust in council and the democratic process," Cr Baberowski said. “While I believe that council’s decisions to use confidential sessions have been for legitimate reasons, such as protecting the community’s interests in commercial negotiations, I think it is important that the community can decide that for themselves. “I have also certainly been frustrated in wanting to publicly discuss aspects of council decisions that I believe no longer have a reason to be confidential but that I cannot talk about without breaking the law. “This makes it difficult for residents to know how their councillor has performed and what they stand for, Cr Baberowski said. The NOM outlines the councillor’s intention to move a motion that, should it gain support, calls

on the CEO to prepare a report for council to consider significant transparency reforms. He will propose making live video and recordings of council meetings available online. In a digital age, Sunshine Coasters should be able to see council in action whenever they want to, he said. He also proposes using the same technology to record the confidential parts of meetings. Once the reasons for confidentiality have passed, the recordings should be made available to the public. “For example, once the commercial negotiations that a debate relates to have concluded, the video would be released," Cr Baberowski said. “I believe the community would have a lot more trust in decisions made in confidential sessions if they knew they would eventually be able to see the meetings in full." Cr Baberowski said he was open to suggestions about how to improve these proposals and intends to work with the community, his council colleagues and council staff to work out how to secure the support of the council for these changes.

Volunteer awards
On December 12 the Member for Glass House Andrew Powell will host the 2019 Glass House Volunteer Awards at the Maleny Community Centre to recognise the amazing volunteers across the electorate. Mr Powell says the work volunteers do is priceless and our communities would not look the same were it not for the countless hours that volunteers, from all walks of life, put in each and every week. “Thanks to the very generous support of the Maleny Credit Union, the Glasshouse Country and Maleny News and the local chambers of commerce, we will be coming together to celebrate our wonderful volunteers, Mr Powell said. Community groups in the Glass House electorate who are keen to nominate a volunteer or find out more about the event should contact Mr Powell's office directly before December 4 via Glass.House@parliament.qld.gov.au.

Women's war stories revealed in time for Remembrance Day This Remembrance Day, locals are invited to celebrate the untold stories of Australian women in war. The musical 'A Girl’s Guide to World War’ is coming to the Maleny Community Centre this weekend for two sold out performances. This powerful new musical reveals how Aussie women overcame obstacles to prove themselves on the frontline. The show features an amazing local cast including award-winning all-girl band Vix and the Slick Chix, musical theatre legend Susie French ('Mamma Mia’, 'Menopause the Musical’) and Zoe Georgakis (voice actor on 'Babe: Pig in the City’). In the first collaboration of its kind, Maleny Arts Council is partnering with independent theatre makers Musical Theatre Australia to produce this show in Maleny. 'A Girl’s Guide to World War’ tells a remarkable true story. During World War I a handful of eccentric, courageous Australian women tried to join the army. Rejected because of their gender, the women refuse to “stay home and sit still”. Instead, they went to war. The creators, partners Katy Forde and Aleathea Monsour, are thrilled to present the show at the Maleny Community Centre to celebrate Remembrance Day. “It feels very special to be presenting this show in time for Remembrance Day,” Aleathea said. “This show is about remembering – and celebrating – what women achieved in the war.”
“The incredible work of women in the war has been largely forgotten,” Katy said. “This show is dedicated to those adventurous, compassionate women who went to the frontline and risked everything to save others.” Maleny Arts Council president Peter Lavery is a keen supporter of the production and said that Maleny Arts Council is pleased to be working in partnership with the team at Musical Theatre Australia. The community response to the show had been overwhelming and the Arts Council said it was thrilled to see audiences had embraced this important new Australian musical by Maleny residents Katy Forde and Aleathea Monsour. The performers will be available to meet the audience after both shows. There will be an extended opportunity to meet the cast after the Sunday performance over drinks and ANZAC biscuits on the Maleny Community Centre deck.

Caring for the Hinterland community for over 20 yrs
Lest we forget Remembrance Day is commemorated in towns, cities and local communities across Australia at 11am on November 11 when Australians are encouraged to pause for a minute’s silence and remember all those who have suffered and died in wars, conflicts and peace keeping operations. We mark Remembrance Day because it was at this time and date in 1918 that the guns fell silent on the Western Front, officially ending the First World War. Locally there are a number of events taking place to coincide with Remembrance Day including a number of services organised by our RSL sub branches. Snippets from the Western Front An exhibition of original artwork will be displayed in St Mary's Community Hall in Montville from 10am-3pm daily from Friday to Monday, November 8-11. The exhibition, called Snippets from the Western Front, has a direct relevance to the commemoration of Remembrance Day. The artist is the late Ross Coulter from Central Queensland who visited the towns, cemeteries, battlefields and memorials of soldiers who served
the British Empire. Ross had many successful exhibitions and his artwork reflects the influence of his Australian Army operational services as a national serviceman in the war in South Vietnam. Ross's widow Kate has kindly loaned the artwork, including transporting it to Montville, and the exhibition has been supported locally by the Mapleton RSL Sub Branch with assistance from the Blackall Range Visual Artists.

in profile Quota International of Maleny 30th anniversary Quota International was founded in 1919 in the USA by Wanda Frey Joiner, a Russian refugee who became a successful businesswoman in Buffalo, New York. Today Quota is active in 14 countries around the world. This year marks 100 years of community service. The Quota Club of Maleny was chartered in 1989 and will celebrate 30 years of community service on November 10. The club currently has 23 dedicated members who show no signs of slowing down. Throughout its 30 years, numerous community groups have benefited from funds raised by the Quota Club of Maleny members. The major focus of Quota is women and children and its moto is “We change lives’’. Maleny Quota has been very successful in this endeavor with many thousands of dollars raised to support the community. Numerous projects have been conducted over the past 30 years, with many highlights. In 1991, Maleny Quota took up the challenge to organise the first high school debutant ball, supporting young people in the community. This event was well received by students, parents and the general community. Quota continued in this role for the following 25 years with the final ball held in 2016. Quota continued to look for other ways to support
its fundraising. The idea of having a quilt show was discussed with members, including some who were quilters, and the first Quota Quilt Show was held in 2004. The show proved so popular it has continued each year as the major fundraiser. In 2019 the 15th show was held on the long weekend in May. The two major beneficiaries of fundraising are Nambour Hear and Say, where the funds support children born with significant hearing loss, and the STEMM project (Supporting Teenagers with Education, Mothering and Mentoring) at Burnside High School. At Nambour Hear and Say the fitting of cochlear implants has a profound impact and gives children and their families the gift of speech and hearing. The STEMM project provides financial support for young teenage mothers to remain in school to complete their education. Expert educators and childcare are provided within the school to support young mothers. The babies are cared for in the school childcare area while the young mothers attend classes. Many students have gone
on to have professional careers. Quota is proud to be one of many community clubs providing financial support. There are numerous other community groups Maleny Quota has supported over the years including Maleny Girl Guides, TS Centaur (Naval Cadets), Disabled Scouts, Maleny CWA, Maleny Neighbourhood Centre, North Queensland farmers affected by drought and flood, Share the Dignity, school chaplaincy and the Rural Fire Service. Quota Maleny will celebrate its members' achievements and 30 years of service with a celebration luncheon on Sunday, November 10 in the main pavilion at Maleny Showgrounds from 11.30am. The cost is $30 per person. All are welcome. For information about tickets contact the club's secretary Jan on 0417 752 271. New members are welcome to join the club to assist with ongoing work for the many worthy causes Quota supports. For further information email quotamaleny@gmail.com.

Bookings can be made via Glasshouse Chamber of Commerce's Facebook page.
Update with Nicole Hilton Chamber President As 2019 draws to a close for the chamber we have had another big year and I feel we have achieved some great things. Our new website #lovemaleny is under construction and will be launched at our February AGM. We will also be hosting a 'meet the candidates' for Division 5 in the 2020 Sunshine Coast Council elections after our AGM. We decided to make our last meeting of the year an evening event to celebrate the coming festive silly season. It will be on Tuesday, November 12 at 5pm at The Orangery Maleny - a little bit more respectable hour and we hope will attract those that can’t always make a 7am breakfast meeting. Let’s come together and share some of our strategies to benefit from the Christmas shopping season. Hope to see you at The Orangery for our last networking event of the year – the first drink is on us!

Community News New supermarket, hardware, petrol station and fast food for Beerwah
By Greg Brown For many years there has been much speculation locally that a Coles or a Bunnings or a McDonald’s would be built in Beerwah. That conjecture may just eventuate with a series of applications lodged with Sunshine Coast Council last week by Coles Group Property Developments Ltd for land at the corner of Steve Irwin Way and Roys Road in Beerwah. The applications seek approval for a petrol station, fast food outlet, garden centre/hardware, gym, bulk goods homemaker centre, showroom, supermarket and a zone for service/light industry development. Although the application documents do not specifically name businesses that might occupy the retail spaces, it isn’t hard to speculate considering who Coles Group Property Developments Ltd are. Coles Group Property Developments Ltd is the property development arm of Wesfarmers Limited, which in turn owns Bunnings, Kmart, Officeworks, Target and other major retailers, as well as owning a 15% stake in Coles (which in 2018 became a separately listed public company, Coles Group Ltd). In March this year, Coles Group Property Developments registered the business name Beerwah Homemaker Centre, with its principal place of business being 8 Roys Road, Beerwah. In total, three applications have been lodged by the Coles Group. The first is an application (RAL19/0118) to redraw the current boundaries of the four blocks that make up the 16.5 hectare site to allow for the proposed developments, which are outlined in the subsequent two material change of use applications. As the land is not currently zoned for a commercial use – it is zoned for medium impact industry – one of the material change of use applications (MCU19/0267) is for a full-line supermarket and showroom. The application also makes an official request for council to make special changes to the Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme to allow for the development. The second material change of use application (MCU19/0270) covers the service station and fast food outlet. Currently no application has been made covering the other aspects of the proposed Beerwah Homemaker Centre – the garden centre/hardware, the gym, the bulk goods homemaker centre or the one for service/light industry development. To read more, go to https://developmenti.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au and search for the relevant development application numbers.

Collaboration on membership drive
An innovative collaboration between students from the University of the Sunshine Coast and the Rotary Club of Maleny has provided important information to assist the club in attracting new members of different age groups and from a broader demographic. A survey conducted by the students was designed to determine the level of community knowledge about service clubs active in the Maleny area, particularly the Maleny Rotary Club, the perceived barriers to participation and the main reasons people became members. Club president Sherryl Gregory said she was impressed with the efforts of the two town planning students, Ryan McNeilly-Smith and Richard Wilson, and thankful for the time given by community members who took part in the survey. “While the report found a majority of respondents had a positive view on Rotary, it also confirmed the club’s need to address a number of neutral and negative sentiments identified, many of which really harked back to the Rotary of yesteryear,” Sherryl said. Rotary had changed significantly over recent years and was no longer an organisation living in the past, she said. The survey also found that respondents thought the main appeal of joining Rotary was the range of opportunities available to contribute to the community and, on a personal level, finding a sense of belonging and making new friends. As the club expected, the main identified barriers preventing people from considering membership of Rotary were existing high engagement levels with community groups and a simple lack of time. “We are determined to get the message out that the Rotary Club of Maleny is striving to make it easier for busy professionals, people with family obligations and those engaged in other community organisations to be involved in club projects and social events,” Sherryl said. Members are free to choose their level of commitment and involvement in club projects and attendance at bimonthly dinner meetings. Sherryl is inviting anyone who would like more information on Rotary or on the benefits of joining to contact her on 0476 573 774 or at president.maleny@rotary9600.org.

Mooloolah Public Hall recently hosted its first Mooloolah Emergency Services Day with 241 local residents attending. Mooloolah Public Hall publicity officer Jason Carroll said the hall team had been keen to engage with the local community and, given recent fires and an influx of new residents, thought this would be a great way to get the community to come together. “It was not just a way to share essential information but also for families to have some fun and we were really proud of how well the event went,” Jason said. Mooloolah Fire Service arranged for a kitchen fire demonstration every 30 minutes with the Landsborough and Eudlo Rural Fire Service and SES members were on hand with their land buggy. Beerwah Police also attended with members of the public asking questions about crime and reporting and the kids loved dressing up as junior police officers and having their photos taken on the car. The Sunshine Coast Council Disaster Hub team were also extremely busy giving advice and information on survival plans, bush fire readiness and how to be prepared. The Mooloolah Hall committee Louis is a little young to be a recruit is looking forward to welcoming but he still had a great day at the everyone to next year’s event. o Exp Mooloolah Emergency Services
Local artists elevated in Brisbane production
The Brisbane season of the contemporary collective theatre work ‘Explain Normal’ has just completed a hugely successful run of eight performances at the Metro Arts Space in Brisbane’s CBD. Featuring Glass House Mountains performing artist Allycia Staples and Maleny’s Rebecca Dostal, this unique theatrical work embraced inclusive arts practices, dance, movement and theatre to provide an integrated and thoughtful reflection on what it is to be normal. Viewed through the diverse and deeply personal lens of the artists involved, some of whom identify as having a disability, ‘Explain Normal’ was an immersive collaboration between director Daniele Constance, the Aha Ensemble and professional dance group Phluxus2 Dance Collective. The production was a culmination of about two years of creative collaboration, which saw Allycia and Rebecca and other Sunshine Coast artists, Mitchell Runcie and Tara Heard, regularly commuting between home and Brisbane. Through the indefatigable commitment of arts therapist and performance artist in her own right Rebecca, local artists with disabilities performing in the production, Allycia, Mitchell and Tara, were artistically and practically supported to attend the production development process and rehearsals, with the final work receiving both industry and audience acclaim. Allycia, 24, was born with a rare deletion on the 18th chromosome. She is a member of Sunshine Coast performance group Sunshine Troupe and the Aha Ensemble, which gives a voice, opportunity and, importantly, visibility to artists with disabilities. Allycia has enjoyed working with and having Rebecca's support for many years. Allycia said that she greatly appreciated being able to feel encouraged by someone who has a creative background as well as an understanding of her as a person and artist. Allycia hopes to inspire other artists with disabilities. One of the highlights of the recent show for Allycia was a dance duet with professional dancer Charlie Ball. “I’ve loved the experience of ‘Explain Normal' and especially the collaboration with Phluxus2 Dance Collective. I really enjoyed improvisation and the experience of feeling open," she said. "I also loved being at Metro Arts as I felt it was a better space and experience for us – and we felt included and seen.” Sunshine Troup will be performing at a celebration of International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) on Tuesday, December 3 at Sunshine Plaza between 11am-2pm.

Zonta raises $1,000 for Hamlin Fistula Hospital
Mooloolah Lions Youth of the Year
A recent morning tea at the Uniting Church hall raised more than $1,000 for one of the Zonta Club of Blackall Range’s international projects. Guest speaker was Fiona McKeague Zontian Barb Inman whose interest was sparked when she and friends raised money for the cost of training a midwife at the Hamlin Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa instead of a gift for a new mother. The Uniting Church donated the use of the venue for the function and church member Jann Porter said how happy they were to assist Zonta in this cause. Initiated by Zontian Gillian Allen, the function has raised thousands of dollars for the Hospital by the River over several years.

Housing survey for women over 55
Glass Housing 55 is a new community group in the Glasshouse Country area seeking to gather data on the growing demographic of women aged over 55 experiencing housing stress or homelessness. The purpose of gathering this data is to better understand the major factors contributing to housing stress in Glasshouse Country. The data will be used to assist with developing strategies on a local level to increase the range of affordable housing available with the intent for long-term stability and community inclusion. If you know someone in this demographic experiencing housing stress or are directly affected, the groups asks you to fill in a simple, two-minute survey found online at https://forms.gle/UKV5UWvqfNMrwSpM9. The survey can be filled in multiple times to represent different people. All responses are anonymous and remain confidential. The survey will close November 25. Alternatively, if you are interested in the progress and developments of the group or would like to join members for future gatherings, please contact glasshousing55@gmail.com.

Beerwah State School was "red, red, ready" for the annual Day for Daniel held on October 25. The school took a family approach this year as child safety starts in the home and is complemented by the curriculum. Deputy principal Deborah Lawrence said at Beerwah the school staff worked as a team to educate students. "The home-school connection is very important to us," she said. “To start the day, families enjoyed a cooked breakfast organised by the wonderful P&C, followed by a whole school safety message in the hall. “The culminating family activity was a walk around the school oval. Thanks to the many families that attended the event,” she said.

Peachester State School’s chaplain Tanya Martin, who joined the school in term three this year, has been working with students to create The Kindness Garden. Tanya was inspired to give the children a colourful visual reminder of what it means to be kind. She said the project was a lot of fun and the children gave great ideas about how we can be kind to one another. “This is such a wonderful little school and I love how we take the social and emotional wellbeing of the school community seriously and want our environment to reflect this," Tanya said. “Kindness grows a person in many ways. There are not only social and emotional benefits but also physical health benefits that is a result of kindness for the giver and receiver. “Being kind is a stepping stone to empathy, which is the crucial social-emotional skill that paves the way for all other social skills that allow children to thrive,” Tanya said. The Healthy Guru is the only natural health food store in the Beerwah region and provides a range of natural and alternative products that cater for the whole family, from pregnant and new mothers, newborns, children of all ages, right through to adults. The extensive range caters for people with a large variety of health concerns, or simply for people who are looking for natural remedies. The team are trained and experienced in providing advice tailored to suit customers' individual needs. If a customer needs further support for their health goals, the team can easily refer to one of the many practitioners who work in store. “I love that the team here all have the same goal, which is to help others learn and achieve their health goals through the many natural and alternative products we have available in store,” Denese said.
“We’re proud to be able to give locals access to these products without the need to travel far. “Our team are here to listen and help you with your long-term goals and we’re proud to be able to offer this locally”. Denese has introduced a range of eco-friendly products, including the kin-kin range, bio-degradable and compostable bags, and has reduced the use of single-use plastic in store. “I’m always looking for new products that are natural and eco-friendly and I love hearing from customers about what products they’re interested in,” she said. “If there’s a particular product a customer is looking for and we don’t have it in stock, we can order it in for them and we can do this for ongoing products as well.” The Healthy Guru sources its products from great distributors to bring locals the best range of products to suit everyone’s individual needs. Denese’s future focus for The Healthy Guru is to continue to provide locals with products and services that are beneficial to their long-term health, all from the convenient shop located in the heart of Beerwah. Denese is currently looking at introducing a range of bulk food items, which she hopes will appeal to customers who are also looking to reduce their use of single-use plastics, as well as provide a variety of whole food products. Also, keep an eye out in store for a freezer full of speciality breads and other frozen products, which Denese plans on having available in coming weeks. Finding time to come in store can sometimes be tricky with the busyness of life, which is why The Healthy Guru is opening an online store so you can shop from the comfort of your own home.

You Said It Re: Pedestrian crossings
Thank you to R Houston for the letter in last week’s GC&M News. You clearly wanted to have a go at council, which is fair enough. However, you raise a very important issue of the safety of children crossing Peachester Road. I agree that there should be more crossings and I think your suggestions of putting a crossing near Nichols Avenue or Roberts Road should be seriously considered. If I could, I would bring this to council for you. Unfortunately, council has no authority to put a crossing over a state arterial road like Peachester Road. I know it’s tempting to blame council for the state government’s failures in our area but as you are passionate about this issue, I encourage you to take this up with the state government or your state member. If you contact my office, I am happy to provide you with assistance and support in doing so. Rick Baberowski Division 1 councillor
Re: Beerwah retirement development
Noela Collins' letter (GC&M News, October 23) regarding the Beerwah retirement development raises an important issue that does not go away. The proposal to reduce the nearby creek and surrounding vegetation to literally nothing is part of the "zero consciousness" that exists within our culture leading to developments that destroy the environment rather than enhance it. In fact, the state of the planet today arises from this sort of thinking that takes an existing eco-system and turns it into a dog walk. We are in the midst of the sixth mass extinction with 26,000 species now threatened say scientists. Almost 200 species are becoming extinct each day. Australia has the highest rate of mammal extinctions in the world and is the fourth worst for animal extinctions globally. There are more than 1,800 plants and animals on Australia's threatened species list, including more than 500 animals. And a recent report in the 'The Guardian' stated the biomass of flying insects has dropped by 75% since 1989, threatening "serious ecological loss". This scale of insect loss has prompted warnings that the world is on course for ecological disaster, with profound impacts on all of us. UK biology professor Dave Goulson recently said: "The whole system of food production .... which is entirely reliant on chucking on bucket-loads of chemicals is not sustainable … We are going to wipe out insect life if we carry on this way." So what do local developers do? They destroy further habitat so as to put more species at risk. If what Noela Collins says is correct another existing eco-system will go for the resort-style development. We are trampling the planet to death. What will today's children say in 20 years? Re: Our roads are dangerous!
Cr Rick Baberowski's comments (GC&M News, October 16) regarding the state of our roads was extremely disappointing. I was particularly let down by the comment "your rates only go so far". This is absolutely shameless! I've been a resident of the Sunshine Coast for almost 35 years and to have our divisional representative make these remarks leaves me in shock. It seems as though every year our rates are going up and up, yet we continue to be left behind. Lucien Chardon Glass House Mountains 20

Maleny town’s infrastructure
Maleny is a tourist town that needs a ten-year plan involving the council, the federal member, the state member, chamber of commerce and the tourist association to combine their efforts to bring a plan into action to prevent Maleny being overlooked in favour of the coast. The area in question is shown in the 39th edition 2019/2020 of the APEX Maleny Business Directory, on page 236. We receive grants for sporting activities from the federal, state and local governments but none for infrastructure. Let us have a competition for a design covering some of the following areas: Redesign Maple Street parking. Construct a footpath to the new police station from Maple Street. Put in decent footpaths on both sides of Maple Street and pedestrian crossings to service businesses on both sides of the street. Replace the suicide footpath outside of the Maleny Hotel. Repair or replace footpaths in Coral Street and put in pedestrian crossings to service businesses on both sides of the street. Redesign Maple and Fig streets garage corner. Construct an all-weather toilet facility in the town centre to include incontinence and baby changing facilities (medicos approved) and provide a toilet attendant from 7am-7pm seven days a week (we are a tourist town). Construct bicycle lanes/paths over the area in question. Redesign the ANZ bank corner. Provide a taxi rank in Maple Street and at the library. Whatever happened to the Maleny Development Control Plan approved before the politically forced amalgamation? Have council arrange with owners of land fronting Willow Lane, Maple Street and Coral Street for multi-storey car parking facilities to be built. We pay our rates, we want something in return, the same as the coast. John Wildman Maleny
Caring people - thank you all
On Wednesday, October 16 I had the unfortunate experience of crashing my pushbike into an Armco barrier on Old Landsborough Road. I would like to thank quite a number of people for their quick and decisive intervention and assistance. Unfortunately I don’t have any of your names. First, the two guys with first aid knowledge who stopped me from doing anything stupid and took immediate care of my injuries. Thank you. Thanks also to the tow truck operator from Clayton’s Towing Service who helped clean up the mess and took care of my bike. To the police officers and ambos for doing what you do – thank you. You are my heroes. To the many others who stopped and offered assistance, thank you for caring. The doctors, nurses and other staff at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Dr Ron Bond and his staff at Beerwah Surgery have done an exceptional job putting me back together. Thank you all. Without people like you our world and our small part of it would be a much poorer place. Alan Giles Beerwah

GC&M News goes travelling
Landsborough local Trevor Foulshan recently popped into the GC&M News office to share a photo of him at the Mt Everest base camp. We were tickled pink to see that he had taken a copy of our paper and had it snapped at Mt Everest! Trevor said that he always reads our paper and over the years had seen others snap photos of themselves in exotic places. So he thought, “I’ll do that too”! It is what we here at GC&M News love to see. Trevor has just returned from a 12-day trek to the Mt Everest base camp, which he completed with his younger brother Glenn, partner and family members. Look out for next week’s story about Trevor and his overseas adventure.
Let’s have a positive campaign
I had hoped that council candidates would not resort to the same petty political point scoring we’re all so sick of from some state and federal politicians. However, it appears from candidate Jenny Broderick’s latest letter (GC&M News, October 30) that she has decided to run a negative campaign without thinking through the issues. One criticism, originally raised by a previous letter writer, was that council fenced off the area where a new pathway was being built and directed pedestrians to instead cut across a few meters of mulch. Jenny called this “council garden insanity”. When her letter was published, the new path was already open. How does she expect pathways to be built? Will she require us to walk across the wet cement? Next she attacked the plantings on the Peachester Road/Old Gympie Road intersection. Three or four months ago I noticed the intersection was looking untidy. Since we didn’t yet know when the state’s upgrade was coming, I asked council’s maintenance team if they could tidy it up. The team decided to additionally put in a few small plants grown in council’s nursery, which cost us nothing. I commend them for the extra effort, even if some plants have to be moved next year. Jenny also strangely attacks the Glass House Mountains District Park as “the park no one can see or easily access”. It is easily accessed from Page Street, just off Coonowrin Road, a short walk from the school and the childcare centre, and is in between two of the most densely populated areas of Glass House. It also has five additional pedestrian entrances, from Gardner Street, Dana Close, Smerdon Way and two new ones soon opening from Railway Parade and Paul Place. Given the word limit, I will address the other claims in future. But as this is a friendly community, let’s have a friendly campaign. Rick Baberowski Division 1 councillor

Emerging jazz artists and Maleny High School students Dylan and Shelby Johnson will compete against other young talent in a special Youth ‘n’ Jazz Bursary competition on Saturday, November 23. Proudly sponsored by the Sunshine Coast Jazz Club, the finals for the bursary, which involves total prize money of $3,000, will take place at the Pelican Room, Caloundra Powerboat Club. Believing that youth are our future, the committee of the Sunshine Coast Jazz Club is thrilled to be supporting young local musical talent and hope that Shelby Johnson establishing the award will encourage the exciting youth talent of the region. Billed as a family friendly day out, the finals will kick off at 1.30pm and jazz lovers, families and friends of the finalists are invited to come along to show their support for these aspiring next generation jazz artists. Each of the finalist will be backed by the musicianship of Inspiration Point, a band led by Russell Bayne on guitar and vocals, John Conley on double bass and bass guitar, Will Sargisson on keyboard and Pat Robins on drums and vocals. The young competitors will be judged by a panel of respected musical professionals from around the state. Tickets are just $20 for a family (up to four members) and $10 for adults. Music Today Let’s all play for change
You may have heard of the wonderful Playing for Change (PFC) project, described as "a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that it has the power to break down boundaries". If you Google PFC you are soon inundated with the performances of songs you possibly know very well, which have been recorded and presented as video clips in imaginative ways. The music alone is enough to inspire me to Google further but there is even better news as the foundation that has arisen from this project is a non-profit organisation "dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world", and through these efforts it “aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet”. And don’t we need these hopes now more than ever as we confront the horror and havoc the present “world leaders” are wreaking on us! If, like me, you are enthralled by inspiring performances of what are, in many cases, standards of popular music, you might dig further and end up at the website of the organisation. Here you are brought up to date with the programs they are running in developing countries using the language of music to break down any boundaries that might separate us. The programs are offered to young people for free, employ local teachers, use local materials and are coordinated by local leaders. It is inspiring at a time when we need great leaders to step up worldwide. All power to them! The range of short videos found on the website is similarly inspiring people playing and talking about their world in music and children finding themselves though their artistic expression. Just give yourself over to it and emerge later better for it. Go on, don’t watch the news tonight. Spend a few hours immersed in world music and beautiful attitudes to life. Which country would you like to dive into: Mali, Bangladesh, Brazil, Thailand? At our recent Eudlo Music Nights festival we had a concert for peace that was opened with the intoning of a beautiful mantra for peace. It was over in a very short time but we hope people got something from it. For many of us it is about sharing and inspiring through music and opening our hearts to the other. The rewards of a giving life are immeasurable. Begin with an hour here and there and let it grow into something. Take the work of the PFC directors as your inspiration! Michael has a recording studio in Peachester. If you would like to find out more contact him on 0419 026 895 or E: mwhitick@bigpond.net.au

Health &Beauty Local shares knowledge in new book GC&M News was recently contacted by Beerwah local Sharon Tan who was keen to share with readers that she has recently become an author with her book ‘Legacy Living: How to Live and Give Your Legacy’. Life coach Sharon said the book took just under six weeks to write "as it has been in my heart for many years".
It looks at how to lead and inspire others to pass down wisdom and valuable traditions while crafting a legacy that will empower those who meet you as well as identifying and establishing the values that will influence all aspects of your life. To find out more check Sharon’s website at www.coachsharontan.com.
She said the book provided a practical approach to help readers discover how to love more fully and with purpose, and how to future-proof their legacy by having a vision bigger than themselves through selfdiscovery.

Fresca the one-stop Christmas shop
Being out of action for a few weeks and hobbling around on crutches has given me plenty of time to work out how to enjoy everything I love about Christmas but without going to 64 shops to prepare. I decided to make sure I was in charge of the grazing platter for the family Christmas this year, which means no actual cooking or real food preparation involved. So I will start my Christmas preparation by heading to Fresca Market and Café, where I can pick up some lovely meats, cheeses and antipasto delights. While I am mostly sitting around enjoying a lovely Italian hot chocolate and a beautiful cannoli, I am going to work my way through my Christmas gift list from the delightful gourmet products on offer at Fresca. Fortunately I have lots of family and friends who like to cook, can’t live without their take-away coffee or just appreciate tasty treats. During the year I have spied some great gift items at Fresca including beautiful earthenware olive pots, ceramic keep cups, gourmet pasta and sauces, lovely bottles of Peachester’s Hum Honey, bags of specialty Italian biscuits and also some lovely scented candles. So this year it looks like Fresca will be my one-stop Christmas shop.

Proud to be Glasshouse Country My most sincere thanks to the dedicated group of organisers, volunteers and sponsors of the two recent amazing community events - the 2019 Celebrate Glasshouse Country Street Party and the 130th anniversary of the Peachester Hall combined with the official opening of the Heritage Centre. I’m honoured that council and I were able to provide financial support to both events and, better still, a great sense of achievement to see the community turn out in support. In my view, these kind of celebrations remind us all of how great our country towns are. The countdown is now certainly on for the Glasshouse Country Community Carols to be held at the Beerwah Sportsgrounds on Saturday, December 14 from 4.30pm!
2020 heritage calendar out now! Funded through your cultural heritage levy, this year the photos on the theme of fond memories have once again been drawn from the private collections of eight local residents who were winners of the heritage calendar photo competition and council’s own Picture Sunshine Coast collection. State Member for Caloundra A word from young Ocean Warrior Poppy Ives
I recently met Poppy Ives and her mother Debbie at the 2019 Caloundra Community Awards. Poppy is a year 9 student from Beerwah State High School and was a finalist in the Young Achiever of the Year category for her dedication to cleaning up our beaches, encouraging others to reduce their single-use plastic consumption and raising funds for environmental causes. It would seem this mindset runs in the family as mum Debbie is a member of the local CWA chapter that helps produce handmade shopping bags with Boomerang Bags Beerwah-Glasshouse Country. I decided to hand over my column for this month to Poppy. I hope you enjoy reading her thoughts on how we can all be doing better to reduce our use of single-use plastic. “I was first motivated to clean the beach because of my love of the ocean and my dream to become a marine biologist. I became aware of the damage marine debris has on our ocean life as part of the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warrior program. “For over two years our family, with the help of volunteers and friends, have been cleaning the beach at Golden Beach. Cigarette butts, balloons, single-use plastics and small pieces of broken down plastic are the things we find the most. “It’s easy for everyone to make a difference when they are at the beach. Take 3 For The Sea is an organisation that encourages everyone to pick up at least three pieces of rubbish every time they go to the beach or park. "Simple, everyday choices we make will also have an impact. Try to never use single-use plastics, always take your reusable water bottle with you and refuse a plastic straw when you go for a takeout meal. “Balloons can be deadly to turtles, sea birds and other marine life. Keep your balloons for birthday celebrations at home. Paper streamers make for a good alternative when celebrating at the park or beach. “We meet once a month at Fraser Park, Golden Beach, and we would love your help! You can email us at visionaryoceanwarrior@gmail.com or follow us on social media.” Thank you Poppy for putting together these simple but impactful steps we can each take in our day-to-day life that can have a positive downstream effect on our waterways, like the iconic Pumicestone Passage. Remember, big transformations are not accomplished by a few people making huge changes but millions of people making small changes. caloundra@parliament.qld.gov.au Search us on Facebook Mark McArdle MP

In the Garden Sexy sterile male flies let loose
Queensland is well known for some great exports – Billy Slater, the macadamia nut, the pineapple peeler – but one the state is cursed for is the Queensland fruit fly. This native pest is a major problem in fruit growing areas and farmers in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia spend millions of dollars a year in control and prevention. In a continuation of a national trial, millions of sterile male Queensland fruit flies were released over sites in western NSW and northern Victoria last month as scientists intensify efforts to protect horticultural crops. The move marks the first time the innovative $60 million SITPlus (Sterile Insect Technique) program to curb Queensland fruit fly has moved into NSW and Victoria, following successful releases of the sterile flies in South Australia over the past year. Macquarie University ARC Centre for Fruit Fly Biosecurity Innovation director Professor Phil Taylor said the male flies were being released over areas of citrus, cherry and summer fruit orchards. “At each location, about two million sterile flies will be released from a customised aircraft each week until April 2020,” he said. “On the ground, scientists will monitor the Queensland Fruit Fly movement of the flies, their longevity in the field, the impact on crops and the wild population.” Using sterile insects isn’t anything new. It was first developed in the 1930s and first used in the 1950s to control screw worm fly in cattle. In the mid-1960s the first trials were conducted in NSW using sterile Queensland fruit flies. In the early 1990s, the release of sterile flies was used to eradicate Queensland fruit fly from Western Australia. By flooding an area with sterile male fruit flies, the resulting mating with female fruit flies results in Fruit fly affected apricot infertile eggs and no fruit fly larvae being produced. However, to make it work the sterile male flies have to be more attractive than the natural male flies in the area. This is where the magic happens according to SITPlus director Dan Ryan. Mr Ryan said some of the nation’s leading scientists had invested countless hours ensuring the sterile fruit flies would be fit and attractive to native flies, encouraging them to mate without producing offspring. “Female fruit flies are very astute when it comes to selecting a mate,” he said. “As a result, our scientists have spent hours developing breeding programs that ensure our sterile flies are the most attractive, best smelling, best singing and fittest flies possible.”

Pumpkins
It’s time to plant your pumpkins. Late spring into early summer is the best time, as earlier plantings tend to produce more male flowers and it’s those female flowers you want the most. Prepare the spot where you’re going to plant by digging through compost and manures, as pumpkins are hungry plants when they are growing. Also, dig through a big handful of dolomite to sweeten the soil a little and add some calcium. I find that the jap and butternut varieties tend to do best in our climate and they are faster growing from planting to cropping than other more traditional pumpkins (like Queensland blue). Create a mound about 50cm across and 25cm high and plant your pumpkin seedling in the centre. Don’t forget to mulch the mound well to maintain the soil moisture level. Pumpkins are solar powered and need at least eight hours of sun a day to perform at their best. They’ll also need plenty of space to ramble and spread. The reason they need to spread is that they will set roots down from their stems that support the growing pumpkins on the vines. So, it’s important to not pull up the runners and disturb the roots they’ve grown. Pumpkins (like cucumbers and zucchinis) produce separate male and female flowers. I’ve found that honey bees aren’t always reliable pollinators, so I tend to give nature a hand. In the mornings, pick off a male flower and remove the petals leaving the pollen covered centre structure, then dab the pollen onto the female flowers. Water and fertilise regularly to keep your pumpkins growing strongly. Try to water the soil and not the leaves to help minimise powdery mildew problems. Pumpkins ripen best by leaving them on the vine for as long as possible. Wait until the skin is hard and the vine starts to wither and die. That way the pumpkin will store and last for much longer. Pick the pumpkin by cutting and keeping some of the stalk attached. Pumpkins will have few pests but will be affected by powdery mildew. Watering in the morning and not watering the leaves will help but all pumpkins will eventually succumb to powdery mildew. If it happens late in the growing cycle when the pumpkins are fully formed, then it won’t really matter. If the leaves are infected before the pumpkins are fully formed, it will affect their development merely because the leaves won’t be effectively producing starches to feed and grow the pumpkins. In this case you’ll need to treat the leaves with old watered-down milk (whole milk, not low fat milk) or a commercial anti-fungal spray. If the ground is kept too wet, stem rot can occur. This is normally fatal for the plant and there’s no treatment suitable for a backyard garden. Don’t forget, it’s not just the pumpkins that are edible. Young crisp shoots with young leaves can be cooked and eaten. Remove any strings and tough parts and cook in coconut milk until tender, or cook as a vegetable in boiling water 3-5 minutes.

From the churches Being authentic and transparent in life is important otherwise you have to pretend all the time by wearing a mask. You end up with a life of tension, stress and being hypocritical about who you are. Vulnerability isn’t easy because it’s risky but in the end it keeps you and life real. Wearing a mask is unhealthy. In fact, being out of touch with reality is a characteristic of mental illness. On the other hand, being vulnerable is liberating. It’s the only authentic way to live. In the Bible James writes “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed" (James 5:16 KJV). Sharing and revealing our weaknesses with someone we trust is the beginning of healing. When you bring things out into the light it helps you to see them as they are and it begins the road to change or recovery. James also writes “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6 NLT). What is humility? It’s not denying your strengths. It’s being honest about your weaknesses. When we’re honest about our weaknesses, we can be honest about our strengths, too. Pride is usually what causes us to camouflage our weaknesses. That’s why God resists pride. It keeps
Rod Jobe Church on the Rise us from experiencing God’s full power. Vulnerability draws us closer to other people. When we’re authentic, people gravitate toward us. When you share personal pain with others you’ll discover a new level of connection and relationship with them. Your vulnerability will also encourage others to throw away their masks. They’ll realise it’s safe to come out of hiding. They’ll be able to stop pretending they’re perfect as well. We’re all a combination of both strengths and weaknesses. No one is perfect and we all miss the mark in different ways. Only God is perfect and He loves us despite our faults. Every person has weaknesses and how you handle them will determine whether they help you or hinder you as a person. If you understand and accept your natural limitations they become useful to you, but if you ignore them they become embarrassments or even liabilities. Rather than posture ourselves as self-confident and invincible, we need to see ourselves as trophies of God’s grace. DQ $XVWUDOLDQ &KULVWLDQ &KXUFK

Congratulations to Dan O’Mara and Ryan Mellors on their Australian NTRA (National Touch Rugby Association) representation. Both are active members of the Glass House and Caboolture touch associations. In June the two men represented Queensland in the NTRA state of origin series. From this competition both men were selected to don the green and gold colours in the Trans-Tasman series against New Zealand. Dan was named in the mixed masters team and Ryan was named in the mixed 18s for the Trans-Tasman series held at Tweed Heads on October 25-26.
Lessons for Beginners to Advanced
Range Croquet Club
Ryan The tournament started with the national anthem of both countries and was blessed by an elder of a local Aboriginal tribe. Unfortunately for Dan, the Kiwis ran away with a 3-0 game win over the Aussies. However, Ryan's team won all three games convincingly. Ryan played like a superstar showing his skills and talent on the footy field and received the best and fairest award for the tournament. A huge congratulations to both men on such a wonderful achievement.

Contributed by Ken Barker Thursday, October 24 turned out to be a ladies' day with Bev Sockhill and Gillian Bradley narrowly beating Nick Cram 17–16 while, on the same lawn, Kath Smith played well to pin back Ken Barker’s ears 16–10. Two games of doubles association croquet were cut short by a storm bearing down on play on Sunday afternoon, October 27. Vince Carbery and Kath played Sarah Widin and Nick in one game while in the other Wallace Roy and Ken played Donna Manning and Stuart Craig. Donna and Nick both made good breaks but no scores were recorded because the games were interrupted. The attached photo shows Nick heading towards two black attempting to roquet the yellow with red. He made that hoop and the next four before the impending storm forced everybody home. The Christmas party is to be held at 12noon on December 15 at The Orangery Maleny. Please let Priscilla know if you are coming. Play times have changed for summer. New times are 2pm for 2.30pm. Play days are on Thursdays and Sundays on the green and cheerful lawns at the bottom of the Maleny Showgrounds. Coaching for beginners and others is available from 8-10 am on Saturdays. These are popular sessions in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Our web address is www.rangecroquetatmaleny. org.au. For details contact president Vince Carbery on 54942193 or secretary Priscilla Vickers on 5494 3555.

Sport Witta Tennis Contributed by Pauline Fraley Maleny Racqueteers were too strong for Witta Wagtails and were the winners on the day. However, the Wagtails enjoyed the last day of competition tennis for the season and the camaraderie. Thanks to Cynthia Garvie and Sonia Douglas. A special thanks to Annie Stewart for filling in and thanks again to Jill Murtagh who also filled in. See you next season. Whistlers played at Caloundra against Hot Chillies. We had one stop due to a heavy shower. Then the sun came out and bought the wind with it. We had good rallies with the wind's help to both sides, which saw us having long rallies with lots of running. We had a great win to finish our season. Well done team and let's have another good hit in the semi-final! Score was 43-25 games, 6-2 sets. Team was Paula Cudmore, Brenda Warner, Aki Lepper and Maree Hooley. The Wildcats hosted Maroochydore at Witta and were able to manage 8-0 sets for victory. Stacey’s special cheesecake birthday cake may have been the absolute highlight of the day but the tennis and sportsmanship from both teams came a close second. Overall a really enjoyable day to finish the regular season. Stacey English, Annie Stewart, Jenie Riding and Libby Howlett combined well ensuring good rallies and lots of fun. Player of the day would have to be the birthday girl. The Wildcats are looking forward to the semi-finals in two weeks. Social tennis: Monday 8am and Saturday 1pm. All welcome. Court bookings 0437 295 501 or www.wittatennis.com.au.

Just for Laughs The quick thinker
A child asked his father: "How were people born?" His father said: "Adam and Eve made babies, then their babies became adults and made babies, and so on." The child then went to his mother and asked her the same question. She told him: "We were monkeys then we evolved to become like we are now." The child ran back to his father and said: "You lied to me!"
Your Stars ARIES March 21 - April 20 Generous Jupiter and loving Venus will move through Sagittarius this month, which is your friendly Fire sign. There is a good chance this pair will bring you long distance love as well as close up hugs from those you care for the most. There is also an irresistible urge to expand your horizons. Excellent time for travelling to a conference. TAURUS April 21 – May 21 Your focus during November will turn to those to whom you are closest. Heaven help those who are foolish enough to think that they can pull the wool over your eyes! You will surely spot a fraud from a mile away, especially mid-month. Your mission then is to pay attention to your gut and refuse to ignore warning signs you are deceived. GEMINI May 22 - June 23 You could end up retracing quite a few of your steps on the job this month, at least up until the 21st, or thereabouts. Your ruling planet Mercury will be retrograde until then, urging you to go over everything with a fine-tooth comb before you present papers to your superiors. Events cause frustrations but you still find a way to be positive. CANCER June 24 - July 22 Because family is always your first priority, this month you will be even more involved with the lives of your nearest and dearest. In fact, you might also need to act as a referee for a few squabbles in this first week of the month. To keep good health do not be tempted to overdo it when it comes to eating and drinking this week.
Week Beginning 06/11/2019

"No," his father said, "your mom was talking about her side of the family."
Intergenerational communication
A mum texts: "Hi son, what does IDK, LY & TTYL mean?" The son texts back: "I don't know, love you and talk to you later." The mom texts him: "It's OK, don't worry about it. I'll ask your sister. Love you too."
with Edgar J. Winter www.astroclairvoyant.com
LEO July 23 – August 22 As planets move through your sector of domestic matters this month, they are focused on the no-nonsense sign of Scorpio. That said, you may expect family members to be a whole lot more intent on getting their own way. You may have to have a meeting to iron things out. Forgiveness and compassion with emotional connection. VIRGO August 23 – September 22 The lovely planet Venus will be in your sector of home and domestic matters until the 26th inspiring you to turn your home into a warm cosy nest. It may be that you are going to redecorate or renovate, or you might be in the mood to have some serious feasts for friends and family. Nothing will get past you over the weekend. Trust instincts. LIBRA September 23 - October 22 Because Mars is on duty in your own sign until the 19th, you will be energetic and restless. If you are feeling irritated by the words of a family member, try not to over react. This is because your words will carry a lot of weight this month. Under fiery Mars it will be easy to hurt someone’s feelings without meaning to. Be careful. SCORPIO October 23 - November 22 If you are going shopping this month, Venus joins extravagant Jupiter in your sector of money and possessions. However, this may also mean that you will be feeling extremely generous towards your nearest and dearest. Uranus is once only in 84 years opposite your sign so expect various events to become totally unexpected now.
SAGITTARIUS November 23 – December 22 Venus will spend most of this month in your sign and in your sector of personality. She will stay there until the 27th, so don’t be surprised if you end up with a few admirers and a whole lot more friends. This is the month to put yourself out there and with Mercury in Scorpio you may be intently focused on finishing up a task or assignment. CAPRICORN December 23 - January 19 The year ahead of you, starting this month, means that life will heap all kinds of added responsibilities onto your plate and you will need to look for health breaks. Remember to always gather your facts and do not be involved with any religious cult or crusade. The weekend sees you dependable and there are friends with reliable support. AQUARIUS January 20 - February 19 You are famous for your love of clubs and associations, and you are usually an active member of several with interesting, unusual people who tickle your fancy and stimulate your restless brain. With Venus in free-wheeling Sagittarius until the 26th you might find yourself suddenly in the midst of another circle of new and fascinating friends. PISCES February 20 - March 20 Because you are sensitive to outside influences you may want to avoid negative people or potentially tense situations this week. This is because Mars is making tense actions against Pluto. When these two square off several portions of the world go mad in revolt and revolutionary actions against governments. Friends from distant past.

MINI DENTAL IMPLANTS NOW AVAILABLE Does your lower denture have a mind of its own? Is your diet suffering? Would you like to enjoy food, and life again? Mini Dental Implants could be the answer …..
Mini dental implants are becoming increasingly popular in dental care today - because of their smaller size they are often used in cases of limited bone anatomy. They can also make removable dentures more comfortable, and easier to wear. The positive outcomes of choosing mini dental implants include being minimally invasive and affordable. If you are unsure if they would work for you or if you would like to find out more information, please contact David and the team at Dental Excel today.
