Remembrance Day is commemorated in towns, cities and local communities across Australia at 11am on November 11 when Australians are encouraged to pause for a minute’s silence and remember all those who have suffered and died in wars, conflicts and peace keeping operations.
We mark Remembrance Day because it was at this time and date in 1918 that the guns fell silent on the Western Front, officially ending the First World War.
Locally there are a number of events taking place to coincide with Remembrance Day including a number of services organised by our RSL sub branches.
Beerwah
Beerwah and District RSL Sub Branch will hold a service at the Turner Park Cenotaph, Turner Street, Beerwah commencing at 10.25am with morning tea in the Beerwah Community Hall after the service.
Glass House Mountains
There will be no service in Glass House Mountains as the Glasshouse Country RSL is currently closed for major renovations. Members and locals are encouraged to attend the service at Beerwah.
Maleny
Maleny RSL Sub Branch will hold a service at the cenotaph at 1 Bunya Street, Maleny from 10.45am.
Montville
Mapleton RSL Sub Branch will hold a service at St Mary's Community Hall, Village Green, Main Street, Montville from 10.30am.
