Cemetery re-dedication

RSL representatives Lee Petrie and Brian Machin plant a tree

Beerburrum State School held its annual cemetery re-dedication service at the Beerburrum Soldier Cemetery last week.

The service is held each year to remember the area’s soldier settlers and their link to the school as they fought hard to have a place for their children to be educated.

The annual service continues due to the ongoing partnership that exists between Beerburrum State School, Glasshouse Country RSL Sub Branch and Sunshine Coast Council.

School leaders read a poem written by the son of an early soldier settler describing the difficulties that were faced living on the plots of land leased to the soldiers at the end of World War I.

School captains Riley and Felicity (pictured) were assisted to plant and water a native grass tree (to celebrate National Tree Week) by state Member for Glass House Andrew Powell and local councillor Rick Baberowski.
