Signs of Lent: Road Work Ahead Opening Hymn LSB457 Jesus Christ is Risen Today! Jesus Christ is ris'n today, Alleluia! Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia! Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia! Suffer to redeem our loss, Alleluia! Hymns of praise then let us sing Alleluia! Unto Christ our heav'nly King, Alleluia! Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia! Sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia! But the pains which He endured, Alleluia! Our salvation have procured. Alleluia! Now above the sky He's King, Alleluia! Where the angels ever sing, Alleluia! Sing we to our God above, Alleluia! Praise eternal as His love, Alleluia! Praise Him, all ye heav'nly host, Alleluia! Father, Son and Holy Ghost, Alleluia!

Psalm 118:17-24 I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the Lord. The Lord has disciplined me severely, but he has not given me over to death. Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it. I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation. The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Confession and Absolution

Let us confess our sins and ask God’s forgiveness for the sake of Jesus Christ, our

risen and reigning Lord. Heavenly Father, we do not always live as your redeemed people. We follow our own sinful desires. We disobey your commands and do not follow your will. We do not love you or others as we should. Hear our prayer for mercy and forgive us for the sake of Jesus our Lord, who died on the cross and rose from the dead for us. Jesus shed his blood on the cross to wash away your sins. He rose on the third day to give you the gift of eternal life. For his sake and by his command, I announce to you that your sins are forgiven, in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. This is the day that the Lord has mad; let us rejoice and be glad in it! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Children’s Message Hymn of Praise

Christ the Lord is ris’n today; Alleluia! Christians hasten on your way; Alleluia! Offer praise with love replete, Alleluia! At the paschal victim’s feet. Alleluia! For the sheep the Lamb has bled, Alleluia! Sinless in the sinner’s stead. Alleluia! Christ the Lord is ris’n on high; Alleluia! Now he lives, no more to die. Alleluia!

Hosea 6:1-3 Come, let us return to the Lord; for he has torn us, that he may heal us; he has struck us down, and he will bind us up. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him. Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.

This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God!

1 Corinthians 15:51-58 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable

body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. This is the Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God!

Matthew 28:1-10 Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, O Christ!

Sermon Hymn:

As we walk the road before us, See each sign along the way Marking out the steps of Jesus That we follow day by day. Here our path winds through a garden, Where a stone has blocked the way; Now the earth with joy is shaking As the stone is rolled away!

Sermon: Road work Ahead

Hymn of Response

Jesus, Stone by all rejected, Has become the Cornerstone! Living stones, by faith raised up, we Shout our praise around his throne! See, his work now lies before us, Work that is not done in vain: Witnesses of Jesus’ triumph, Witnesses of Jesus’ reign!

Offering Prayers Lord Jesus, risen Savior, on this day you overcame death and the grave for us! In your resurrection we have new life now and the sure hope of life to come in the resurrection on the Last Day. Lord Jesus, risen Savior, give your comfort and peace to those in need of hope today, especially…and those we name in our hearts. Help us to live as your servants, so that others see and experience your love through us. Lord Jesus, risen Savior, like your disciples, we have come to the tomb this day and we have seen in your Word that you are the Living One. Make us faithful witnesses to your saving love and power. With your Holy Spirit at work through us, our work for you is never done in vain. Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Benediction The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious unto you. The Lord look upon you with favor and + give you his peace. Amen.

Closing Hymn

I know that my Redeemer lives What comfort this sweet sentence gives He lives, He lives, who once was dead He lives, my ever living head! He lives, my kind, wise, heav’nly friend; He lives and loves me to the end. He lives and while he lives, I’ll sing; He lives, my Prophet, Priest and King. He lives and grants me daily breath; He lives, and I shall conquer death; He lives my mansion to prepare; He lives to bring me safely there. He lives, all glory to His name! He lives, my Jesus, still the same Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives, "I know that my Redeemer lives!"
