Grace exists to strengthen people in their relationship with Jesus Christ and to empower them to share Jesus with others.
Pastor’s Welcome & We Greet Each Other Opening Hymn: Christ is our Cornerstone Christ is our cornerstone, on him alone we build. With his true saints alone the courts of heav'n are filled. On his great love our hopes we place Of present grace and joys above. Our Savior Jesus reigns, the God of truth and love; When he had purged our stains, he took his seat above. Oh, come, proclaim in joyful song, Both loud and long, that glorious name. His kingdom cannot fail; he rules o'er earth and heav'n; The keys of death and hell are to our Jesus giv'n Until that day when all the blest To endless rest are called away. 1 Peter 2:4-9 Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God's sight, and like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in scripture: "See, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame." To you then who believe, he is precious; but for those who do not believe: "The stone that the builders rejected has become the very head of the corner," and "A stone that makes them stumble, and a rock that makes them fall." But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you might proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Earth, hear your Maker's voice; your great Redeemer own; Believe, obey, rejoice, and worship him alone. Cast down your pride. Your sin deplore And bow before the Crucified. Prayer of the Day Let us pray: Almighty God, gracious Lord, pour out your Holy Spirit on your faithful people. Keep them steadfast in your grace and truth, protect and comfort them in all
temptations, defend them against all enemies of your Word, and give to your Church your saving peace; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives
and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Isaiah 51:1-8 ““Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord: Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn; look to Abraham, your father, and to Sarah, who gave you birth. When I called him he was but one, and I blessed him and made him many. The Lord will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing. “Listen to me, my people; hear me, my nation: The law will go out from me; my justice will become a light to the nations. My righteousness draws near speedily, my salvation is on the way, and my arm will bring justice to the nations. The islands will look to me and wait in hope for my arm. Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last forever, my righteousness will never fail. “Hear me, you who know what is right, you people who have my law in your hearts: Do not fear the reproach of men or be terrified by their insults. For the moth will eat them up like a garment; the worm will devour them like wool. But my righteousness will last forever, my salvation through all generations.””
This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God!
Rock of Ages
There is no rock, There is no god Like our God. No other name Worthy of all our praise, The Rock of salvation That cannot be moved, He's proven Himself To be faithful and true, There is no rock, There is no god like ours. (Repeat) Rock of ages, Jesus is the Rock, Rock of ages, Jesus is the Rock, Rock of ages, Jesus is the Rock, There is no rock, There is no god Like ours.
Ephesians 2:14-20 “For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.”
This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
Gospel: John 8:31-36 “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
The Gospel of the Lord Praise to You, O Christ.
VBS Songs Children’s Message LSB645 Built on the Rock
Built on the Rock the Church shall stand, Even when steeples are falling; Crumbled have spires in ev'ry land, Bells still are chiming and calling. Calling the young and old to rest, But above all the souls distressed Longing for rest everlasting. We are God's house of living stones, Built for His own habitation; He through baptismal grace us owns, Heirs of His wondrous salvation. Were we but two His name to tell, Yet He would deign with us to dwell With all His grace and His favor.

Post-Communion Hymn
We all depart in peace and joy, our sins have been forgiv’n The body and the blood of Christ have sealed our place in heav’n We go into the world for Christ And serve Him all our days Empowered by this Sacrament We’ll show His love always.
Benediction God is our mighty fortress, always ready to help in times of trouble. Therefore we will not be afraid! Let the earth tremble and the mountains tumble into the depths of the sea. Let the ocean roar and foam, and its raging waves shake the mountains. Like a river whose streams bring joy, the Most High God is in the midst of us. God's help will come at dawn. The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. Amen.
Closing Hymn LSB656 A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
A mighty fortress is our God, a trusty shield and weapon; He helps us free from ev'ry need That hath us now o'ertaken. The old evil foe Now means deadly woe; Deep guile and great might Are his dread arms in fight; On earth is not his equal.
With might of ours can naught be done, soon were our loss effected; But for us fights the valiant One, Whom God himself elected. Ask ye, "Who is this?" Jesus Christ it is. Of sabaoth Lord, And there's none other God; He holds the field forever. Though devils all the world should fill, All eager to devour us, We tremble not, we fear no ill, They shall not overpower us. This world's prince may still Scowl fierce as he will, He can harm us none, He's judged; the deed is done; One little word can fell him. The Word they still shall let remain Nor any thanks have for it; He's by our side upon the plain With his good gifts and Spirit. And take they our life, Goods, fame, child, and wife, Though these all be gone, Our vict'ry has been won; The Kingdom our remaineth.
