The Washington Conservatory of Music at Glen Echo Park is one of the 15 nationally accredited community and precollegiate music schools in the United States. Since 1984, WCM has served students of all ages and levels through individual lessons, classes, and ensembles. Students may study without audition with highly credentialed and performing artist faculty. For detailed faculty biographies: washingtonconservatory.org. Private Piano Lessons

Children, teens and adults - beginners, intermediate, and advanced - may enroll in 30 minute, 45 minute or one hour weekly piano lessons, with highly credentialed and performing artist faculty. No audition required. Learning piano is a great basis for learning music in general, and to prepare for playing other instruments. Individual Study on All Instruments and Voice

Guidance is happily provided to students of all ages in choosing instruments for private study to meet each individual’s goals. Lessons are offered on piano, guitar, voice, all strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments. 30-minute, 45-minute, and one-hour private weekly lesson options. Build your own Music Class

Is there something musical you would specifically like to learn – an instrument or topic about music? For a preformed group of six or more, we are happy to hear your ideas and offer suggestions for tailor-made group classes to address your special interests. Give us a call to discuss: 301.320.2770. Instrumental Ensembles

Classical and jazz ensembles are arranged on a weekly basis for students of similar age and ability. Call: 301.320.2770. Minimum 5 weekly to maximum 15 weekly classes.

Concerts and Events

Concerts and special events for children, families, and adults are offered by Washington Conservatory performing artist faculty members and guests at various times throughout the year both online and in person when it is safe to do so. Chamber Music Coaching for Preformed Ensembles

In-person chamber music coaching for beginning, intermediate, or advanced preformed ensembles are arranged on an individual basis. Coaching with performing artist faculty is provided for amateur chamber music ensembles who would like to refine their ensemble playing or work on specific repertoire. Acoustic Guitar for Beginners $184

Mike Kligerman Class: Tu, Jan 11-Mar 1, 7-8pm, Online Learn a few chords and strums; you’ll be playing satisfying versions of your favorite songs in this fun class. You know a lot about music just from years of listening. Use that knowledge and you’ll be playing by ear in no time at all. Bring guitar & notebook. Intermediate Guitar $184

Mike Kligerman Class: Tu, Jan 11-Mar 1, 8-9pm, Online So you’ve taken the beginning guitar class or you’ve been playing for a while and want to get to the next level. Learn some finger picking and other techniques that will make your playing more interesting. Use these skills to play songs you love. Guitar and notebook required. Irish Bodhran Refresher $94

Jesse Winch Class: M, Jan 10-24, 5:30-6:30pm, Washington

Conservatory of Music This multi-level refresher class focuses on traditional Kerry-style of playing emphasizing drum positioning, stick control, basic styles and finding the downbeat. Tune types include the jig, reel, hornpipe, slip jig, slide, and polka. Class will informally discuss the definition and characteristics of Irish traditional music including history and the role of percussion. Students must provide their own instrument. Advanced Beginners - Irish Flute and Tin Whistle $207

Tina Eck Class: W, Jan 26-Mar 23, 7-8pm, Online Combined class for advanced beginning players. Some basic knowledge of the instrument, fingering, simple scales, and simple tunes is required. Explore the rich mostly aural tradition of Irish music and expand your repertoire. Irish tunes learned by ear: jigs, reels, hornpipes, polkas. Learn about fingering, ornamentation, breath control, intonation, basic repertoire & listening recommendations. Bring Irish flute or tin whistle in key of D and recording device. Tina Eck Class: W, Jan 26-Mar 23, 8-9pm, Online Builds on the Advanced Beginners Irish Flute/Tin Whistle class. Fundamental skills required. Explores additional repertoire, ornamentation, phrasing; also focuses on tone, intonation, breath control, session tunes, learning by ear. Intermediate Irish Fiddle $345

Playing Klezmer Music $345

Avner Finberg Class: W, Jan 26-May 4, 7-8pm, Washington Conservatory of Music Learn to play Klezmer music, the joyous, traditional Jewish folk music. For beginners to learn or more advanced players to hone their skills - there is something for everyone in playing Klezmer music together. All instruments and levels are welcome — strings, winds, brass, dulcimers, accordions, drums. Students must provide their own instrument. Encore Rocks $195

Room If you love to sing the music of the fifties, sixties, seventies and beyond, you’ll love Encore ROCKS, Encore’s Rock n Roll Chorus! Repertoire includes music you grew up singing - and perhaps some music your kids enjoyed, too! Encore ROCKS at Washington Conservatory at Glen Echo Park is under the direction of Jeffrey Dokken. He brings to rehearsals a light, patient, humorous and friendly attitude that will engage and inspire. ROCK ON! Students must show proof of vaccination. Washington Conservatory Encore Chorale $195

Room Love to sing? Are you over 55? You are sure to enjoy the Encore Chorale in rehearsing exciting four-part (SATB) repertoire in preparation for concerts at venues such as the Kennedy Center. Conservatory of Music Yes, you can sing! It’s never too late to learn! In a group setting, enjoy learning ways to warm up your voice for the best sound, range, and vocal health, how to stay in tune, and how changes in posture and breathing can help you sing. Intermediate Voice for Adults $345

Conservatory of Music This class is designed for more experienced singers and those who have taken Introduction to Singing for Adults and want continued refinement of vocal skills. Prerequisite: one year of Introduction to Voice, or upon the recommendation of the instructor after an audition. Audition requirement: a prepared piece with audio accompaniment (no vocal track).
