HELLO My name is

Gleydis Viqueira I study design because I wish for a future for humanity where we do not have to destroy to survive and where physical handicap is part of the standard interior design.

BACKGROUND

I am from Cuba My cultural background is music, dance and games of domino. I have lived in Cuba, Havana and Miami, Florida. My family; my mother, father, brother and I are in Miami. My grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins are in Havana. I speak English, Spanish and some Japanese.(I hope to travel to Japan.) I become interested in design after visiting The Miami Children Hospital. It felt more like a hotel than a hospital, there was a feeling of comfort and luxury. The environment did not feel like sickness. The limitations of Cuba and the educational lottery inspired my parents to bring us to this country for our future success .

When I experience anxiety and stress, any aggressive color make it worse. The colors red, yellow, and orange have this effect on me. My phone cover is blue and my computer desktop is set in a blues and purple gradient. Fun fact, I like colors and patterns in my clothes.

COLOR

I have a natural love for calming, non stressing colors; blues, purples, and greens.

a piece of my mind

I walk to the sunset, so the night will never come for me. Not everything that shines is gold, and not everything that is gold shines. The best people of the world tend to be crazy.

DESIGN Residential Design Designing a bungalow in a residential area in India. I was requested the design of the foyer, altar, living and dining area together with and interior medical garden. Furthermore, it was necessary to use a fashion design as inspiration.

Color + Designer The approach of a designer to the world of color to solve a community problem, “Do we need a library?

David Adjaye He was born to a family of diplomats in a time when Africa was becoming independent countries. However, his brother suffered from brain damage and became handicap at the age of five. As a result, he became interested in the freedom and the accessibility of space and architecture due to his handicap brother straggle to access buildings. For him, architecture is not about aesthetics. It is about problem-solving and creating the best opportunities for everyone to enjoy architecture. Aesthetics comes as a result of problem-solving. He is the creator of an understanding experience of Afro-American culture through the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History and Culture on the National Mall in Washington D.C and accessible learning experience with the Whitechapel Idea. Store.

“The Whitechapel Idea Store is a lifelong learning experience” by David Adjaye

Site Information Whitechapel Idea Store Do we still need libraries? The Whitechapel Idea Store became the research project to answer such a question. Built-in one of the most impoverished areas in London, a great variety of programs were implemented to help the local community. Flexible and open spaces surrounded by lots of glass and natural light. A café with a clear view of cityscapes. There is also a yoga and dance study contributing to the enrichment of the experience. “A key finding in the research also indicated that people responded well to real customer care and a “retail feel,” so the commercial model is the inspiration here too, albeit the purpose remains to deliver a free, not for profit, public service (2).”

Exterior Analysis Color Analysis Analogous Scheme: the colors create a sense of tranquility and calm, softening the intensity of the interior color scheme. The colored light coming through is helping the user to keep their focus as humans react this way to the color green and blue. Blue: the shades vary to prevent boredom and depressive effects. It is also used to assist with balance and equilibrium. Green: it also helps with balance and equilibrium and is the warmest of the cool colors. “People are more productive in blue rooms (6). Following this, the whole building is covered in a rhythmic pattern of blues and soft green glass windows. Also, the building was created with access to the colored light from every room. This color was also chosen by using the logo of the company as the main inspiration.

Interior Analysis of the Library and Surfing Space Purple: hue used in an accent wall and indicates a place with expensive computers. Meaning: calm. Yellow: hue is on the apparent wood use in most of the bookshelves. Meaning: cheerfulness, vitality, the sun, and, most importantly, wisdom. Green: the hue of the bookshelves in the surfing area. They act as an accent in the design—meaning youthfulness and renewal.

Primary multi-hue color harmony scheme Blue: hue on top of every table and the special sitting. Meaning: strength and reflection. Red: the hue of the floor and columns. Meaning: excitement and courage.

Interior Analysis of CafĂŠ, Dance Study, and Reference Area

Analogous color scheme Yellow: enhance concentration, optimism, and self-esteem. Green: reduce negative allergic reactions to food. It is also a way to bring the outside into the building. It represents growth and relaxation. Gray: is a long-lasting color that represents technology and intelligence. In this case, it is also used as a transition from the black color of the floor. Black: the floor is black, firstly for cleaning purposes and to give a feeling of privacy and security.

Conclusion

After analyzing the colors used in the interior and exterior of the Whitechapel Idea Store, the building sits as an oasis of calm, providing serenity and flexibility to those who use it. At the same time, enhancing their mind and nurturing them through various experiences. The color is used creating a contrast between each other and accenting specific places. Furthermore, as represented by the architect, squares are used to create an analogous pattern of tinted glass windows that develop a three-dimensional piece of art thank to the light it is casting. The building is a place to help and improve the community. As David Adjaye himself said: “Architecture is the physical act of social change and the manifestation of it. I believe in architecture as a social force that makes good.

Color + Perception + Behavior How color exposition can affect the perception and behavior in a hospital, supported by a biomimicry study.

Color scheme: Analogous Complementary

Bee among crocuses Taken on March 25,2007 by Liz West Children's hospitals are colorful, paint with a color that adds light and brightness to the environment for sick children to feel better. Arizona's Phoenix Children's Hospital design by HKS Architects uses an analogouscomplementary color palette based on the secondary colors to create a feeling of playfulness and a sense of direction in the interior. However, changing the color dominance affect the overall design. The bright atmosphere turns darker and cooler after changing the color palette to it complementary. The energy went up to the yellow on the ceiling while the cool colors on the floor act as depressants. It is not suitable for places like hospitals.

As a result, color is the first design element taken from nature. Designers can find inspiration in everything, anywhere. The color palette from the original can be found in flowers as the crocuses, and after changing to complementary colors, it is still found in flowers like the hibiscus. Considering that changing the color palette can change the design's intention or mood and how it affects the people, we need to be extra careful and try the colors before applying them to the real place. A better understanding of the select hues for a design is necessary for being a success.

Color + Movies Directors all over the world use color to manipulate the audience response and tell the story.

The Life of Pi A writer who has lost his will to create a story meets a man called Pi, who tells him his story of surviving at sea alone with a tiger. An adventure that would be difficult under normal conditions turns into an odyssey in the company of the Bengali tiger, Richard Parker. "My fear of it keeps me alert ... it saved my life. " From storms to carnivorous islands. The movie is the journey of a man to survival and coming close to God.

Orange and Green This is the primary color palette during the whole movie, orange & green. It is used as the primary association with the life of the young Pi. Except for the transitional scenes in the movie, everything is represented in this color palette. Typically, the assumption would be that green was used to contrast the actor's skin tones, but I think it is more for the contrast between the tiger fur and the ocean. Psychological ramification: It is easier to follow the storyline.

Black A monochromatic black color palette is used in specifically traumatic scenes. The color is used to create a feeling of danger and impending death. It is used to transition the emotions to the next scene. Psychological ramification: ▪ Pain ▪ Chaos and Disorder ▪ Emotional Suffering ▪ Loneliness and Helplessness

Yellow During the film, every time the movie would transition to an important event, the atmospheric color becomes a monochromatic yellow color palette. Yellow appear before Pi encounters religion, and when he wakes up from the noise during the storm. However, the most important moment would be when he put his life in the hands of God. Yellow is used to represent moments of luck and mental clarity. It gives a feeling of peace to the viewer before the disaster occurs.

Blue and Green The combination of the analogous colors blue and Green are used on moments of wonder during the adventure. Every time a miracle occurs, these colors will be the main palette scheme. High saturation is used to create scenes challenging to view on the natural world. Psychological ramification: â–Ş Wonder â–Ş Hope

Black and Green The color black is used to continue the representation of negative emotions and death. However, in this case, green is used as a representation of nature and to increase the predatory intentions of the carnivorous island— the last transition point in the film. Psychological ramification: ▪ Supernatural experience ▪ Ominous premonition

Color is a vehicle for the story a representation of emotions and time, of the trials. Each color is assigned to one emotion and only use to represented. Like yellow, which is the representation of religion, faith, and God through the whole movie and it is not use any other way.

For the first time, I realized and focus on how the color use for different scenes affect me and how premeditated it is for me to feel that way. In a level, the fact I was paying so much attention to details, made me enjoy the movie more.

Conclusion

The movie is an emotional roller-coaster, a travel to understand faith in its most simple form. Of how, sometimes, reality can sound like a fictional story; so hard to believe that people prefer a lie to it.

Color + Balance The use of colors to brighter the mood and encouraging learning, all achieved with curiosity.

The Savannah College of Art and Design, located in Savannah, Georgia, is the perfect example of a school's word curiosity. Each space is different and full of details; however, the colors used in each of them are well balanced to prevent a load environment. With a constrained color palette of two colors for the base and accent, the users do not feel any discomfort. Not only that, but the colors are all part of the harmonious color scheme we previously learned in the Color + Theory module.

Symmetric Balance

(Formal balance) symmetry is the arrangement of the element's element on both sides of an axis equally balanced on shape and form.

This image is of one of the many corridors leading to the classrooms. The art installation is included in the symmetrical distribution of the furniture. Using the chair in the middle as a guideline makes it is easy to see the right distribution on the left entirely.

Asymmetric Balance (Informal Balance) asymmetry is the elements on either side of the axis equal in color weight but vary in shape and size. This image is of a common area for all the students to meet and interact with each other. As it is visible in the mural painted on the wall and the furniture distribution, even if the elements share the same color scheme, the difference between them creates asymmetry.

Conclusion: The trick to producing a balance between color is to select a color scheme or use the color wheel, do not forget symmetry.

Color + Emphasis Boutique: an establishment that sell a select product or brand.

Introduction In 2002, Stacey Bendet launched her store in the Miami Design District, Alice and Olivia. The brand tries to achieve a sexy and sophisticated design while been flirty and whimsical. It is a favorite for Hollywood stars and was born from searching to create the perfect pair of pants. Nowadays, dresses, gowns, skirts, and anything a woman needs to express themselves through their attire are sold here. It also reflects the love of Bendet for vintage, traveling, and flea markets.

Contrast of Hue The most basic color contrast, achromatic, is used for this store (the contrast between white and black). As white gives more relevance or weight to any object of a different hue, it is the perfect choice to make the clothes pop out of the walls. It also creates a sense of order and cleanness; contrasting with the black, a sense of interest and elegance forms. The use of black on the floor and white on the walls makes the store's space seem more expansive and growing.

Contrast of Value The contrast of the store can be described as bright. All the colors used in the design are in their purest hue. They were used to create a “fun and theatrical backdrop for Stacey Bendet’s unique sense of aesthetics.” The primary hues are the base of the color selection for all the furniture and wall applications.

Contrast of Texture

In most of the designs, the surfaces of the wall and floor are smooth. However, the columns have been designed to resemble long curtains falling from the ceiling, which create a difference in the overall visual impact against the floor and walls' smoother surface. Also, the color black is used in different line shapes, adding a new layer to the textures' contrast.

Contrast Of Design Features The spaces are separated by arches which frame each of the different sections of the boutique. Furthermore, metal is part of the finishing touches that keeps the sensation of “shine and smooth. To obtain more visual impact, specific panels with paintings were added surrounding a dome that goes up to the second floor, acting as a display for specific dresses.

Focal Point The shape of the displays guides the observer's eyes directly to the centerpieces of their collection. At the same time, the dress becomes the focal point and transform into the most relevant item. In all the store's different areas, splashes of color are being used to create little focal points to direct the user's attention.

Conclusion Using an achromatic color scheme in a retail environment makes any splash of color pop-up. The store is an inventive and non-expensive way of making colorful merchandise seem more beautiful as each piece of clothing became a work of art on a white canvas. The theatrical element created by the contrast between the design features and the application of the focal point concept is incredible.

It is not necessary to abuse color to create an exciting design. Just use it smartly.

Color + Material Concept The use of material can change how we perceive color and the meaning of words.

Color + Hospitality

Every space is unique and with the intention of making you feel joy and relax.

As if contradicting itself, the design of the hotel SLS Brickell in Downtown Miami uses a basic color palette consisting of three primary colors, despite the colorful faรงade of the building. Two hotels were studied, as access was restricted; the main lobby for tourists and one of the restaurants attached to the hotel. The design was kept simple, with no use of unnecessary ornaments. Thanks to the control illumination, after analyzing the lobby, the guest can experience a sense of privacy while being directed to the most important places (seating area and elevators). Space is horizontally designed, creating the ceiling's illusion of being lower and closer to the users, amplifying the sensation of privacy and security.

Marble and gold are used to direct the user's eye to the areas of interest, while the dark green rug is used to create a route of access into the stairs. Furthermore, the dark green rug acts as an accent to what could have been a dull color palette.

The use of a three-color palette continues from the lobby into one of the restaurants. It is achieved using materials and not paint. Also, the design continues to use horizontal lines to reduce space. However, contrary to the lobby, the color palette has been inversed to enhance coziness and warmth. If the lobby is private and impersonal, the restaurant becomes private while retaining a sense of sociability. Another aspect of notice is the lack of edges, making a continuous path. On the other hand, each surface has its texture, giving the users sensory stimuli fomenting diversity and contrast.

Materials: Oak Terracotta Polished Concrete

Conclusion

The design certainly works; the variety of materials create contrast between the surfaces and give visual and sensory stimuli while the color palette forms a sense of unity. However, as a viewer and while experiencing the space firsthand, one question always came to mind. What is the inspiration behind this design? I still do not know.
