AUTUMN WINTER 17/18
While floral prints have always held a special place in spring/ summer trends, this autumn, they will take a dark turn into a Romance Pre-Raphaelite dream. Embracing nocturnal shades and tinted darks into sophisticated compositions, delicate hues are given a harder edge by combining gentle colours with darker base ones. In interior design, luxurious and dark moods can be created, layering rich tactile fabrics, velvet textures, rich colours and floral motifs. Mixing them with waxy, wet, organic textures and finishes is key. This romantic trend will probably expand into Summer 18, and move into a slightly darker side of exoticism, island life, and imagery of wildlife and the sensuous mystery of the unknown.
WINTER FLOWERS
With emojis becoming the first truly global language, and animation movies targeting adults more and more, communicating via cartoon and bright coloured images has become an approved form of communication. Cartoon inspired graphics and colours will be more and more visible in graphic, fashion and interior design this season. Our passion for anything pearlised, translucent or iridescent will continue, with bold and bright colours replacing pastel shades in the coming spring. For this trend, colours will be playful... not to be taken seriously! From Minion Yellow, Lime Popsicle to Unicorn Glitter.
PLAYFUL COLOURS
LET IT SHINE !
The rose gold finish was a popular trend in previous season and now super slick, chrome surfaces have really taken over. However the high polish, mirror-like shines will get bold with colours. Luxury metallic tints and strong glossy treatments give surfaces a luxury look. Light sensitive materials are ideal for retail: coloured chrome metallic surfaces can create striking definition inside store environments.
OPULENCE
We have all seen it on social media (or dreamt about it), the trend of Outlandish and ‘the bigger the better’ in-your-face deserts is expanding. Anything goes - with ice cream or milkshakes: sprinkles, donuts, cocktails and layer cake. Opulence and layering is the rule and the same will apply to fashion and interior design this autumn. Not only will it keep you warm, the more daring you get, the cooler you’ll be: layering pieces of clothing and clashing motifs – go for it! Over-decorating in interiors and design will mean adding loads of textures and motifs, which will definitely clash with the over clean, white, Scandinavian style design we’ve been used to lately.
We live in a paradoxical world and a key trend in both the present and future is natural living. Vegans are no longer seen as rare or unusual, indeed it is a rising eating trend, consumers and companies are definitely going towards sustainability and natural ethical processes in all lifestyle areas, from food to interior design. A responsible attitude will progressively profoundly affect spending behaviour.

The natural materials in the trend evoke living mindfully and consciously: natural fibres and surface imperfections are celebrated in a pure and neutral colour palette. Delicate rice paper will be more and more used in packing, in home accessories and design, as cut transparent textures can create interesting play with shadows. In visual merchandising, interior and retail design, simple textured transparent walls can act as room dividers, allowing fluid space interaction and allowing light to pass through.
