BRINGING SURFACES TO LIFE WITH TEXTURE

BRINGING SURFACES TO LIFE WITH TEXTURE

Surfaces such as tiles, flooring and wall panels are brought to life with texture, volume and association; thus creating exciting interior spaces.

SCULPTING WITH LIGHT With LED technology, light designers are able to create surprising new forms of lighting.

GIVING MATERIAL A SECOND LIFE

Sustainability and environmental consciousness in furniture and interior design is, as always a key feature in design, with recycled materials such as cardboards, wool, yarn, or scraps of wood; creating unsual lighting and interesting stools, playing with textures and light.

SCREENS AND DIVIDERS Dividers are functional : to break up space, separate areas; but they can also be inspiring, with cut-outs, textures and various shapes. They provide backdrops, dramatise light and shadows, create an atmosphere, playing with what’s hidden and what is shown.

STONE AND METAL

Many brands in furniture design put the emphasis on materials in their displays and products during Clerkenwell design week. Using simple, clean shapes, such as large rectangular desks, counters to highlight the quality and beauty of the stone, metal or wood. Products with a rich material vocabulary provide designers with the opportunity to be original and bold : to use colour and texture to create a more varied, inspiring and personalized interior environment.

STONE AND METAL

A recurring trend in furniture this year is the focus on wellbeing, comfort and relaxation. It is believed that a more inspirational or comfortable workplace/environment will help employees/people feel more creative and motivated. The introduction of privacy pods and nooks is a natural occurring trend to promote distraction free spaces for workers that just need to be concentrate for a while. Workplaces are now a mix collaboration and personal space, with the following characteristics for instance : - Chairs are turned into private booths - Sound isolated booths in office spaces are created for private conversation - Furniture that leaves people to use them at their will, lying down, sitting, standing... indeed, workspaces are flexing to provide a variety of spaces for workers to inhabit that promote movement throughout the day.

THE FUTURE WILL BE SNUG

One of the great achievements of contemporary British design is that it has become capable of mixing the old with the new, it is a smooth blending of tradition and modernism. Turning a wheel into a display, re-using cafetiere and turning it into a light, displaying traditional china plate on a roughly gold painted background, all are examples of a certain quirkiness in British design.

CAPTIVATE AND AMUSE

It is about the concept, and a “designing with a smile on your face approach that exemplifies creativity and stand-out style.

Wood continues to provide inspiration for designers, utilising it’s natural properties and ecological credentials. It took a large part of the exhibitions, both in an attempt to bring nature in the interior and to give a more luxuruous feel in furniture.
