Celebrating Healthy Pets!

A look back at summer in:

Fall, 2013

As Canada's Healthy Choice for Pets, Global Pet Foods is stepping up our efforts in 2013 to provide more education to help pet parents improve the health of their pets. Global Pet Foods believes that there are four elements that are key to caring for pets: Mind + Body + Soul + Spirit. By offering a wide variety of unique, healthy and wholesome pet products, the Healthy Pet Care Specialists in all Global Pet Foods stores across Canada can help pet parents make informed decisions for the health and well-being of their companion pets. We celebrate all pet parents who are incorporating these elements into the care of their companion pets on a daily basis!

Sonny: Nadine took Sonny for regular walks this summer to keep him healthy. She also ensured that she fed Sonny a good, healthy food each day.

Miley: Sally kept Miley cool this summer by keeping her fur trimmed. Sally shops at her neighbourhood Global Pet Foods store where she purchases a healthy pet food which also helps to keep Miley healthy.

William, Simon and Charlie: Kimberly adores her three Eskimos. They’re pictured here looking exhausted after a hard day of playing. Kimberly made sure that they spent eight hours or more outside each day running, playing and swimming. Kimberly is very dedicated to making sure that her Eskies stay fit and healthy!

Gracie: Kelly kept Gracie healthy this summer by taking her outside daily to play and made sure that she went for a walk twice each day.

Milli: Ashley kept Milli healthy and cool this summer through exercise by swimming with her in the pool. Milli loved jumping off the diving board and playing fetch!

Charlie: Sally kept Charlie, Miley's adopted brother, healthy and cool this summer by encouraging him to lie on the cool ceramic tile and ensuring that he had plenty of cold water to drink every day.

Ryley aka “The Muffin”: Since Ryley had allergies this summer, Brandi-Lee gave him a supplement. BrandiLee also ensured that Ryley went on daily hour-long walks when it wasn’t too warm. During the really hot days, BrandiLee let him play with ice cubes. She also ensured that Ryley kept cool by keeping him inside when the heat was unbearable.

Molly & Jake: This is a photo of Molly & Jake’s first trip to the beach back in early July. Elisabeth kept her pets healthy this summer with a lot of exercise, love, attention, and holistic food! She took them for walks or runs in the fields. They usually went outside every evening when it was cooler for 30 minutes to 2 hours every day. Elisabeth knew that taking them out after the sun set kept them from overheating and getting dehydrated.

Piper: Brenda kept Piper healthy this summer by keeping him cool with his Outward Hound neck cooler while he was out for his walks. Piper doesn't do his "business" near home so he must go for a walk no matter what the weather, which means that he was outside exercising every day!

Tokyo: Megan kept Toyko, her Italian Greyhound, healthy this summer by arranging play dates, doing agility in the backyard, and keeping her covered in sunscreen so that she wouldn’t get a sunburn.

Charlie: Shannon kept her two year old, female Boston Terrier/Pug mix healthy this summer by feeding her Acana Chicken and Burbank Potato dry food along with other healthy treats. To keep cool during the summer, Shannon provided Charlie with fresh, cold water and took her for dips in the cottage lake (always supervised!). Shannon also provided her with icy treats to keep her cool during the summer heat. Charlie also enjoyed the occasional relaxing paddleboat ride during the summer evenings.

Chelsea: Annik kept Chelsea, a 3 year old rescued pitbull, healthy & happy this summer by feeding her a holistic pet food and treated her with dehydrated duck legs. Before each meal, Chelsea went for a 30-60 minute walk. Then she practiced her basic obedience skills and some fancy tricks (such as hi5, sit pretty, etc) after which she was able to eat her meal. Chelsea also played fetch and walked a minimum of twice per day. Chelse has already started to lose some weight since Annik adopted her back in early July.

Cujo: Annik kept Cujo, a five year old Marshall black roan mitt ferret, healthy & happy this summer by feeding him Orijen cat/kitten kibble food and Duck Soup, and gave him plenty of fresh water every day. To keep Cujo's hunter instincts busy and satisfied, Annik provided him with plenty of toys and fun games. She played chase with him, and during ferret-approved temperatures, he went outside with his harness and leash. During hot summer days, Cujo played with a bin filled with water which keep him refreshed and helped to avoid heatstroke. Cujo enjoyed his tunnels, ball pit, toys, and his kitty brother (who he loves to chase!). Cujo was a busy little guy this summer; always on the go!

Nous: This past summer, Megan took her dog, Nous, for walks to places where she was also able to swim so that she wouldn’t overheat.

Meeko: To keep Meeko, a 7 year old DSH cat, healthy and happy this summer, Annik fed him a holistc pet food diet and plenty of fresh water. During nice weather, Meeko was able to play outside with his kitty harness and leash. He had plenty of toys and scratch posts to keep him busy. Annik also played with cat teaser toys to entertain Meeko’s hunter instincts. Meeko shares his life with a ferret brother (which he loves to play fight with) and a doggy sister.

This summer, Teri took her dogs around Crystal Lake every day for exercise. Over the weekend, she would take them out to the bushes for long runs. Her dogs spent time in their kiddy pool, which was set up in the backyard, so that they had easy access to water to cool down during the summer heat. Teri put some feeder fish in the pond for the two dogs to fish out which was great fun for them.
