NUARY 2013-14

GETTING READY FOR ELECTION The Myanmar politicians are not the only ones getting ready for the election in 2015, at Global Platform Myanmar we have also started preparing.

In December Danida Fellowship Center came and trained trainers in election monitoring, so they can start training Fellows – ActionAid Mynamar’s young rural changemakers Seven trainings at GP during 2014 will ensure that 160 Fellows from all over Myanmar are prepared to educate and prepare their communities for the 2015 elections.

RAISING THE CREATIVE VOICE Times are changing and so is the way we do activism.

So for the first time Global Platform Myanmar and Turning Tables Myanmar joined creative forces and had their very first Creative Activism training in December.

The participants were challenged on their ideas about activism and trained in alternative forms of expression like song, rap and stencils.

So for a whole week GP were full of song, dance, rap and spray cans as the participants prepared for their big finale - a flash mob, a soundtrack and a video.

Everything was documented by Turning Tables Myanmar, who is now working on editing a small film about the training. For more information keep an eye on Facebook and YouTube page.

NEW MANAGER With the New Year came a new era for our training hub. After a year in the capable, kind and creative hands of Anne Louise Carstens, Dan James is taking over as Global Platform Myanmar’s new manager.

Dan is from the UK, where he used to work for the government as researcher. But for the last year he has been working as a governance trainer at GPM, so he already knows the platform very well.

Fortunately we are not saying goodbye to our former manager. Anne Louise will stay in the Global Platform family – working from Myanmar – where she will work on securing the quality of trainings at every Global Platform around the world.
