The Founding Curator’s Opening Remark It is already the second year since we have established Yerevan Hub of the Global Shapers Community, an initiative of World Economic Forum. Yet another time I am honored to write the foreword of the annual report, I would again like to take the opportunity to thank all our shapers, partners, mentors and volunteers who invest their time and resources for changing our community to the better. Not only do our shapers initiate positive change for different groups of our community, but also they are the impersonation of that change. All inspired by the motto of WEF: improving the state of the world‌ Yerevan Hub was established in July of 2012 and ever since we had got 15 bright individuals together with diverse backgrounds, complementing strengths and perspectives who did not know each other, yet came together to build an efficacious relationship and work together to tackle different problems of our society. The results of those efforts are various successfully implemented projects during the last 12 months. Unfortunately there are still so many problems that our citizens encounter every day. Something that was clear to us from the very beginning is our desire to see more smiles on the streets. That is part of our dream and we have few goals that would help that dream come true. Our team believes that we could make those positive changes. Our projects are in different areas of social life that is backed up with the diversity of the shapers and partners that carry on those projects. We do understand that we should make Yerevan a better place on the Earth that can further be transformed into other hubs and cities to improve life quality all around the world. Heading into 2014, I would like to highlight that it has truly been my pleasure and joy to work with every single member of Yerevan Hub in a healthy and balanced atmosphere of professionalism and fun. I am really blessed to get to know all our members and already be friends with them. Their strong sense of initiative, solidarity and cohesion has given the Hub the ability to develop new project ideas and successfully implement them. As a Hub we would also like to express our gratitude to the World Economic Forum and peer Hubs for their continuing support, encouragement and goodwill.
Kind regards, Hovhannes Toroyan Founding Curator, Yerevan Hub

YEREVAN HUB Overview Global Shapers Community is an initiative of World Economic Forum (hereinafter WEF) that has the idea to put together young leaders who work under the motto “Improving the state of the world”. It is a network of city based hubs where members have rather freedom to address local issues and then scale those up and make them global. Yerevan is the capital city of Armenia: a country with ancient cultural heritage and interesting geographical location, situated at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe. Yerevan is an ancient and at the same time a young city with talented young people devoted to shaping a better future and realizing ideas to make our country a better place to live in. The Global Shapers Yerevan Hub was established In July 2012, by such young enthusiasts. The main goal of Yerevan Hub is to bring together active, passionate and ptimistic young people with different professional and educational backgrounds, who are ready to devote their time and efforts, share professional expertise and leadership skills to reveal different issues existing in the social and economic life of our city, initiating innovative solutions and triggering positive changes both in Armenia and globally. The Yerevan Hub Shapers are from diverse professional areas, ranging from finance to education, from information technologies to arts and culture from health to social policy. For the past year Yerevan Hub expanded its family of shapers and by July 2014 it had already 15 active members. Despite varying interests and personal characteristics Yerevan Hub shapers are unified and inspired by the common idea: “Committed to Improving the State of the World”.
4
Cooperation Layers and Recruitment Our people are the decisive assets for making the Hub successful. From the very beginning we decided to form four layers of cooperation with the Yerevan Hub. First layer would be Mentors that is currently comprised of 7 very reputable individuals that have shown excellence in their fields and proved high stand of morale, as well as have experience in working with the youth. We also expect that our most successful alumni will be part of the Mentor group in the future. Second important circle of cooperation is with Partners, a group of individuals and legal entities that have supported the Hub in organizing various activities. Another important cooperation circle would be Volunteers that have agreed to donate their time in support to the shapers and are called for help for specific projects, if necessary. And of course the last but obviously the most engaged would be “Shapers themselves. To expand the scope if the Hub’s positive influence through diverse community projects and assure the diversity of the members, Yerevan Hub increased the number of shapers from 10 (2013) up to 15 by July 2014. The Yerevan Hub Shapers have expertise in different fields: health and education, social field and culture, arts and finance, information technologies and communication.
Shapers at Work Yerevan shapers have one mandatory meeting per month. Shapers engaged in particular projects have more frequent meetings driven by the project urgency, planning and implementation. Standard projects usually undergo through 5 stages: idea generation, research, action plan preparation, actual implementation and reporting. Shapers at first present their ideas on topics and issues they would like to work on, offering possible solutions based on their own field of expertise and interest. Some of the ideas also come from media or interaction with different leaders. Once the pool of ideas is formulated, they are being discussed at a meeting and prioritized based on the collective decision of all shapers., shapers then research the topic of interest and present draft project. Based on the findings, a project leader is selected, who is responsible for preparing a detailed action plan with specific responsibilities and deadlines for the shapers involved. Afterwards, the implementation staeg starts, when the project is actually brought to reality. Obviously, interim reporting per stage of implementation of the action plan and actual outcomes versus anticipated results helps the team to keep track on the flow of the project and ensure high efficiency of all efforts that Shapers put in. Depending on the project, shapers also meet in smaller groups when needed. This is a fun process where every single member of team enjoys his/her time and also has some fun. Occasionally we meet to socialize, have a party or spend a nice weekend in the countryside.

In the second section through animation clips and interactive pantomime the kids strengthened their knowledge on children rights. The last section included each shaper having a 10-minute talk with kids on four different topics: dreams; friendship, why do I love my city; what would I change in my neighborhood. ONCE UPON A TIME – when tales come true In June 15, 2014 Global Shapers Yerevan Hub launched its new project - “Once Upon A Time” - initiated by three young and enthusiastic shapers of the Hub. This is a fairy tale retelling and storytelling project for children aged 7-12 from socially vulnerable families in Yerevan that will expand to other regions of Armenia on later stages. The project idea was based on such current Urgent social transformations in Armenia that bring to blurred national identity among the young generation, lack of civil responsibility and acknowledgement of being a change-maker, which is especially vivid within socially vulnerable groups,. The project has both psychological and socio-cultural goals. It is is driven to enhance the development of children’s personality and value system through strong cognitive influence of fairy tales, strengthen the civic identity, nurture the sense of being a change-maker and focus the public attention on the necessity of the book in the children’s education and development, to revive the love and need towards the reading.
Yerevan Hub shapers, together with the psychologist, designed the detailed methodology and structure of the program. The core storytelling program consisted of four different sessions, each session aimed atdeveloping children's instant qualities and attitudes w through storytelling, discussion, games and other engaging activities. During the sessions children learn to express positive self attitude, to overcome their fears of failure and be active, to be engaged in different positive activities and develop self-confidence as well as be part of a team. The last session was a parent-child session, when all the children present their achievements and learning to their parents and get evaluation from the psychologist. With the success of the project and already developed program module, Global Shapers Yerevan Hub intedns to expand the scope of the project and engage more children from various age groups and coming from regions of Armenia.
