The Founding Curator’s opening remark It is already the second year since we have established Yerevan Hub of the Global Shapers Community, an initiative of World Economic Forum. Yet another time I am honored to write the foreword of the annual report, I would again like to take the opportunity to thank all our shapers, partners, mentors and volunteers who invest their time and resources for changing our community to the better. Not only do our shapers initiate positive change for different groups of our community, but also they are the impersonation of that change. All inspired by the motto of WEF: improving the state of the world‌ Yerevan Hub was established in July of 2012 and ever since we had got 20 bright individuals together with diverse backgrounds, complementing strengths and perspectives who did not know each other, yet came together to build an efficacious relationship and work together to tackle different problems of our society. The results of those efforts are various successfully implemented projects during the last 12 months. Unfortunately there are still so many problems that our citizens encounter every day. Something that was clear to us from the very beginning is our desire to see more smiles on the streets. That is part of our dream and we have few goals that would help that dream come true. Our team believes that we could make those positive changes. Our projects are in different areas of social life that is backed up with the diversity of the shapers and partners that carry on those projects. We do understand that we should make Yerevan a better place on the Earth that can further be transformed into other hubs and cities to improve life quality all around the world. Heading into 2019, I would like to highlight that it has truly been my pleasure and joy to work with every single member of Yerevan Hub in a healthy and balanced atmosphere of professionalism and fun. I am really blessed to get to know all our members and already be friends with them. Their strong sense of initiative, solidarity and cohesion has given the Hub the ability to develop new project ideas and successfully implement them. As a Hub we would also like to express our gratitude to the World Economic Forum and peer Hubs for their continuing support, encouragement and goodwill. Kind regards, Hovhannes Toroyan Founding Curator, Yerevan Hub

YEREVAN HUB Overview Global Shapers Community is an initiative of World Economic Forum (hereinafter WEF) that has the idea to put together young leaders who work under the motto “Improving the state of the world”. It is a network of city based hubs where members have rather freedom to address local issues and then scale those up and make them global. Yerevan is the capital city of Armenia: a country with ancient cultural heritage and interesting geographical location, situated at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe. Yerevan is an ancient and at the same time a young city with talented young people devoted to shaping a better future and realizing ideas to make our country a better place to live in. The Global Shapers Yerevan Hub was established in 2012 bringing together active enthusiasts, passionate and optimistic young people with different professional and educational backgrounds, who are ready to devote their time and efforts, share professional expertise and leadership skills to reveal different issues existing in the social and economic life of our city, initiating innovative solutions and triggering positive changes both in Armenia and globally. The Yerevan Hub Shapers are from diverse professional areas, ranging from finance to education, from information technologies to arts and culture from health to social policy from business to design/communication. Global Shapers Yerevan Strategy Global Shapers Yerevan Strategy Global Shapers Yerevan Hub Strategy includes refined Hub governance, internal regulations and strategy to ensure even more alignment with global and local fast changing environment. According to the new strategy the scope of the Hub activities are defined within the Strategic Triangle below:
The following strategic principles have been adopted by Global Shapers Yerevan Hub 1. Local and Global Impact - The projects initiated and implemented by the Hub should be scalable, targeting both local and global issues. 2. Sustainability - Projects initiated should be change triggers in the local communities. Sustainability of the launched projects is hence of very importance and should be considered at the project design phase. 3. Value Added - the biggest resource of the Hub are the shapers and people on Hub networks (Shapers of other hubs, Board of Advisers, Alumni Network, Partners, Volunteers, etc.). Projects designed and implemented by the Hub should be primarily built on the expertise of the Hub network representatives. 4. Collaboration – The Hub should join efforts with other public, civil society, private organizations and individuals to achieve synergy and greater impact. 5. Engagement & Visibility - The Hub members should be actively engaged in different professional communities and promote Community values. The success of any Hub member is the success of the Hub. The Global Shapers Yerevan Hub Shapers are the most important and engaged members of our community. These are exceptional young leaders and socially active community members.
6
The strategy priorities of the Hub include: 1. Education SDG 4 concerns to ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. The access to education is especially important for socially vulnerable groups. Education in its broad terms defines the access to formal and informal education, transfer of skills, transformation of skills and future of jobs. This direction also includes collaboration and partnership with Education related initiatives and organizations. 2. Professional Development Professional engagement in different global professional initiatives. Organization of professional development conferences and regional events. Professional development can be directed to experience sharing and exchange of professional skills. The key subjects can be in line with 4th Industrial Revolution themes. Local professional discussion and thematic meetings can lead to wider exposure to current and future topics including 4th IR and the future of glob. 3. Community Development SDG 1 is driven to ending poverty in all its forms everywhere. Initiatives driven to the community development, job creation and poverty reduction are the priorities. New models and transformation of current models in community development, introduction of global experience and best practices, collaboration locally with the communities. One of the key direction can be the youth engagement and transformation of current community model which will lead to increase in life standards and decrease of poverty. 4. Environment & Recycling SDG 10 raises engagement in tackling climate change impact and taking actions. This direction intends to identify major environmental issues for initiating projects or organizing events that will bring positive impact. Climate change and green economy are priority for Armenia as well. Our people are the decisive assets for making the Hub successful. Currently Yerevan Hub formed comprehensive internal structure engaging shapers and insuring the high level of Hub motivation in line with the strategic goals of the Hub and Community. External communication includes several key cooperation layers: Board of Advisors - an advisory body for Global Shapers Yerevan HUB. Members of the Board include the founding curator and 4 reputable representatives from different sectors holding high level management position and with great network to provide a broad perspective. Board members may be selected from the Alumni community as well. Alumni Network - former Shapers who are currently Alumni are also the valuable assets for the Hub and the network is growing each year. Partners - are respectful public, private, social organizations which share similar values with GSC and work to make a positive impact. Partners receive different mutually beneficial opportunities in return for their support within different events and projects organized by the Hub. Partnership is considered both monetary and non-monetary basis.
7
Volunteers - are one of the most important part of Yerevan Hub community, as they play major role during events and projects which require large human resources.
Shapers at Work Yerevan shapers have one mandatory meeting per month. Shapers engaged in particular projects have more frequent meetings driven by the project urgency, planning and implementation. Standard projects usually undergo through 5 stages: idea generation, research, action plan preparation, actual implementation and reporting. Shapers at first present their ideas on topics and issues they would like to work on, offering possible solutions based on their own field of expertise and interest considering the strategic priorities of the Hub: Hub interests, global trends and state priorities. Some of the ideas also come from media or interaction with different leaders. Once the pool of ideas is formulated, they are being discussed at a meeting and prioritized based on the collective decision of all shapers. Shapers then research the topic of interest and present draft project. Based on the findings, a project leader is selected, who is responsible for preparing a detailed action plan with specific responsibilities and deadlines for the shapers involved. Afterwards, the implementation stage starts, when the project is actually brought to reality. Obviously, interim reporting per stage of implementation of the action plan and actual outcomes versus anticipated results helps the team to keep track on the flow of the project and ensure high efficiency of all efforts that Shapers put in. Depending on the project, shapers also meet in smaller groups when needed. This is a fun process where every single member of team enjoys his/her time and also has some fun. Hub engagement is also one of the key components for the efficient operation of its member Shapers. Thus the Shapers frequently gather together to socialize, have a party or spend a nice weekend in the countryside.

Each year on the 3rd week of October famous and respectful representatives from different fields such as culture, education, business, music and media visit different public schools in Yerevan by the initiatives if the Yerevan Hub. Throughout the past 6 years over 500 children have been engaged in the Dignity celebration activities. The event was a great success as not only students eagerly engaged in discussions but also our famous speakers expressed positive experience recalling that such initiatives need to be done more frequently. “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. - Nelson Mandela Global Dignity is the story of three friends - a prince, a philosopher, and a community leader and organizer, who share the belief that dignity has the power to transform our world into a place where compassion, understanding, and love triumph over intolerance, injustice and inequality. They founded Global Dignity in 2006 to engage young people around the world in a powerful and immersive learning experience focused on the universal values of our shared humanity: dignity. About the school The Special School for Children with Hearing Impairments is located in the picturesque corner of Yerevan called Nork and is the only institution in Armenia that provides a 12-year secondary education to children deaf or with hearing disorders. The school can host up to 350 students, where they get a full education, including studying sign language while learning a wide range of arts and crafts. Most kids in the school have a great talent for sports, particularly wrestling. They have won a number of local and regional competitions. This is quite an amazing achievement given the fact that they don’t have a gym area where they can train for competitions! In March 15th the Global Shapers Youth NGO kicked off the crowdfunding campaign through the Generosity.com platform and in 1.5 month USD 6,091 was raised by 126 supporter throughout the world. The raised amount was matched by the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development within the Community Initiative. As a result the total budget for the project comprised about 11,000 USD. Global Shapers designed and implemented recruitment of highly professional company with competitive process. Based on the negotiations a contract was signed for renovation and supervision of the total area. As the school was closed for the summer period the renovation works started in mid-September and were finished in mid-November. Though initially the project included renovation of total of 72sq.m area, however as we raised a bit more than was in budget we managed to renovate another 30sq.m adding more space to the total GYM area. The area was fundamentally renovated and reconstructed, two separate dressing rooms were added for boys and girls, the window and the floor were completely replaced by new modern ones. After the GYM area was fully ready the Global Shapers arranged purchase of the training equipment and refurbishment of the GYM.
