NOTE FROM DENISE How many of you dove into your New Year’s plans or resolutions and perhaps weren’t quite ready for the dedication and demand of your time to accomplish them? Referring to the statistics, only 64 percent last longer than the first month and according to U.S. News, approximately 80 percent of resolutions fail by the second week of February. It is very interesting to note, that only 14 percent of people over 50 actually achieve their resolution compared to 39 percent of people in their 20s and 30s. (Now don’t take this to heart if you are over 50 as a reason to give up!) From a FB post of mine. “I think January is a time to not necessarily jump into all of the new changes we imagine we are going to make. The end of the year and the holidays are stressful and then often there is a feeling of let-down from the hustle and bustle of one year ending and a new year beginning.” “So now you have had your month to rest, relax, rejuvenate and reset. NOW start what you have thought doing, what you want changed, what you want to create!! This is YOUR time!! Use it, take action and Create Success!!” Thank you, TR Garland for your response, “Resetting is just as important as hitting goals, trying new ideas, or just pressing through.” I will add that it is not too late, in fact as you are reading this, it is exactly the RIGHT time for you to look at you what you want to achieve in 2019. We do not want to get discouraged or quit if the first attempt fizzled out. There is no failure unless we quit or give-up. To me lessons learned and trying again is part of success and a sign of personal development.

Acknowledging what did not work, what got in our way, or why did we lack motivation, allows us to course correct. Now, the question is, what do you need to course correct? What of your plans for January did not happen? Do you still want them to happen? Then you have time to do so; you have the opportunity to create an entirely new plan. There is no right or wrong, every day you have an opportunity to do what needs to be done, without judging yourself for it. Sometimes life gets in the way, it can be due to a huge event or situation or perhaps to something not so big. It does not matter why you are of course, it only matters that you create a new Road map, Nancy Becher in her article, Road map to 2019 has a few tips to help you out. Most of us have learned, when we fall of the bicycle or horse, we get back on; there is no worth crying over spilled milk and when we fall get up, dust yourself off and try again. So here is to creating or refining, our course, our Road map, the journey we are on, called 2019!! You have the ability, and the power to make this YOUR BEST YEAR YET!! We hope you enjoy these articles featuring writers from the United States, Canada, and the Bahamas to share a global perspective on life, business and relationships.

ROADMAP TO 2019 6

|

The new year is upon us. We’re probably now well into the routines of our daily lives. If you’re like me, one day simply flows into another and we keep on keeping on. Did you have big goals and dreams for 2019? Have they already fallen by the wayside or are you moving ahead steadily towards your future? Statistics tell us that at least 50% of all small businesses fail within the first 5 years. That’s a daunting thought isn’t it? Are you past that stage or are you still forming your business model? Here’s something to think about… as many have heard me say over the years, you might make the best widget in the world but be horrible at running a business because you don’t know that side of things. If that’s the case, you have a choice. You can either strive to learn and become great at management and leadership or you’re truly better off doing what you do best: making the widget and letting someone else manage.

G LO B A L V O I C E MAG A Z I N E

If you decide you truly want to learn and become that successful business owner, one of the first things you need to do is to create a plan for what is going to happen ahead. I remember when I was a kid my parents would take us on a vacation every summer. They never would have said “Come on kids, we’re going on a trip” without knowing exactly where we were going and how to get there (and back). They had a plan. First, they decided where we were going and then they went to their insurance agency who provided them with a roadmap – a book of maps with roads drawn out for the best ways to get to Point B from Point A. There were directions for side trips, places to stay the night, good restaurants to eat at and all kinds of things we might want along the way. It was the ONLY way we would go on vacation and my husband and I still do similar things (via Google Maps) these days. The reason for this story is to tell you that running and growing a business are very similar to taking a trip. You definitely don’t want to just “go with it”. Although, unfortunately, many owners do exactly that. They get so involved in the day-to-day work of the company that they don’t take time to create a roadmap for getting to the end of their trip. What is needed in that map? What do you want to do and who are the people you want to work with? What is your goal?

Do you want a side Hustle or is this a true business where you can live a comfortable life, pay your bills, and other things you’d LIKE to have?

tip sheet will share many of them.) While others might be more in the form of outsourcing to a VA, a bookkeeper, etc.

Once you have a firm idea of where you want to do, then it’s time to create the roadmap that will get you there. Creating a marketing plan, working on putting the processes and strategies together that will help build the business while in the long run giving you more time, money and freedom along the way.

As an example, one hour of time a week given to someone else who’s area of expertise it is, can save you several hours of doing something not your best, or something that you dislike doing, and so forth.

It takes a bit of time in the beginning as you often have to try something, if it doesn’t work, try something else, until you find the right formula. But once you have it created those processes can be tremendously helpful and freeing.

In the long term, now is the best time of the year to sit down and create that roadmap to get you moving forward. If you’d like some support along the way, I am happy to share a few chats with those who are ready to start the process. My bio has the link to my scheduler.

Some processes are in the form of automations (lots of things on line to help with that… check out www.dontwaittilpigsfly.com and our weekly

In September 2018 I met Denise Thompson through the Success Engineers Facebook group hosted by Robert Garcia. She invited me to write an article for the first issue of Global Voice Magazine. During the process of discussing what I would write, we also discussed my business and where I wanted to go; she offered to provide support as my coach and I said yes.

show host so they can gain exposure by sharing their stories on the air. I explained how over six years I had gone from booking myself on podcasts and radio shows to helping friends for free to taking on three beta clients to finally offering a paid service with several clients signing up! Her response was Max if you are good at this, and people want to hire you for it; then perhaps this is where you can put your attention and effort, create a business out of what you are already doing.

ARTICLE TITLE

I finally had a qualified coach to help me turn my passions into a business. Someone to help me see the value I was offering and help me avoid the pitfalls that were costing me money and holding me back. The first conversation we had was about my being a “coach”. I thought she would ask about my target audience was, my offers and how many clients I had. Instead her first question was why are you a coach? She followed up by asking do you have a real passion for coaching? My response was no, coaching is something I thought was a natural progression of being an inspiration to people online. It was something others thought I would be good at. Her response was if you have no real passion, then why keep doing it? I’m surprised she had to work through this with me. Because it fits in with what I wrote in my first book Leading You Out of the Darkness Into the Light. I said to be successful you need to make sure your dream is really yours and not that of your friends, family members, or people you have seen online. But often we need to learn the important lessons more than once. She asked me what I was passionate about? I started with a general answer. I talked about how happy I am when I connect a friend or client with a podcast or radio

I’m sharing this because we all have areas of our personal or professional life where we could use some help. It’s not a sign of weakness to hire someone who is an expert in areas that you struggle with. I found most of the very successful people had the good sense to hire a coach, therapist, psychologist, consultant, etc. very early on. And while you don’t have to pay a fortune to get a quality coach, you do have to decide to invest in your future. As a top real estate coach once told me, if you want help from successful people expect to spend money or work your ass off. The next thing I had to learn has to do with my fearless approach to travel. In the past few years I had gone off on several trips across the country. Never did I have more than $500 on me when I left home. I was a real believer in the law of attraction sometimes to my detriment. Luckily, I was usually able to stay in friends’ homes, visit family members, or bring in additional income when needed. But last September my luck, as they say, ran out. I was stuck in New York City broke, sick as a dog, and without a place to stay. I had been reaching out to lots of friends via email and social media. At the last minute two online friends came through for me. One purchased a motel room for me for a night. The other bought my Amtrak ticket back home to Houston. I don’t remember the train trip back at all. In fact, the next month was a bit of a blur to me. I found out later that I even created a web page for my site that I didn’t remember building. For a while I was disappointed if not depressed by my failure. But eventually I worked through this too. I realized that I can’t keep taking such risks. I told myself that for the next year I would only take speaking events from organizations that were near me or would provide a speaker’s fee, travel expenses, or both. Funny thing is once I made this decision, I started finding opportunities locally. I will have spoken for the Visually Impaired People of Southeast Texas by the time this is published. I’m also negotiating a talk for the Houston chapter of the American Council of the Blind.

“I F YO U D O N’ T A S K , T H E Y C A N ’ T S AY Y E S ” MAXWELL IVEY JR. Now I am creating my new 90 and 180-day-package which includes online media connections and I am adding the option for people to market their podcasts, radio shows, or businesses on my website and podcast. I also have two pieces of merchandise for sale to go along with my books and courses. They are shirts. One says “If you don’t ask they can’t say yes”. The other says simply “What’s your excuse?” Because people say if Max (the blind blogger) can do it, then what’s your excuse? In the future I’m planning on marketing them by having each of my podcast guests wear and promote them online. Another change I made was adding my podcast the What’s Your Excuse? Show to the Global Voice Network. Now, joining any of the online radio networks involves paying to play. You exchange money for the opportunity to reach larger audiences. I had unsuccessfully competed for a free spot on another radio network. We are actively planning a re-launch of my show. We have recorded a get to know “Max, The Blind Blogger” interview for the network, and we are working on a new logo for the show and its Facebook group. The best part about this decision is that it means I will no longer have to do the hard work of submitting my show audios to

a podcasting platform for submission to the various syndication sites. Trust me this is a big deal because it is not easy to perform this action using a computer with a screen reader. As a result, I’m certain that my show will reach more people going forward. This will allow my guests to inspire even more listeners, and it will give me the opportunity to attract sponsors. I am excited to share the progress I have made over the last six months and the reasons behind the changes. I want people to understand I can make changes because I constantly re-evaluate myself, I ask for help from qualified talented experts, and I’m always moving forward. Even when bad things happen, I use them as a source of inspiration, education, and growth. I find out what I did or was doing wrong and look for ways to improve or correct it. I hope you will feel the freedom to accept your own short comings or bad decisions. I also hope you will decide to learn from them and make real changes one small step at a time. After all, if Max (the blind blogger) can do it then “What’s your excuse? Thanks for reading, Max.

February 13 was adopted for this observance since February 13, 1946 was when the United Nations Radio was established. In 2019 UNESCO will celebrate the 8th anniversary of World Radio Day. This day marks a time where people around the world celebrate radio and how it shapes our lives. Radio informs, transforms and unites us. It brings together people and communities from all backgrounds to foster positive dialogue for change. More specifically, radio is the perfect medium to counter the appeals for violence and the spread of conflict, especially in regions potentially more exposed to such realities. World Radio Day 2019 will celebrate the theme of “Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace”. In our world today, we need to engage in a dialogue of tolerance and peace. Diversity is to be embraced, freedoms protected, and peace and security required in all countries and for all citizens. Broadcasts, traditional radio and podcasts, that provide a platform for dialogue and democratic debate over issues, such as migration or violence against women, help raise awareness and inspire understanding for new perspectives in paving the way for positive action.

An Interview with Lisa Winston

E M B R AC E YO U R T U R N I N G P O I N T

A blessed THANK YOU to Lisa Winston for sharing her journey with Global Voice Magazine. I first met Lisa through Facebook, a loving, supportive, spiritual connection…since that is who Lisa is. By divine guidance of God, Spirit, Universe we met in person a year ago in San Antonio. What fun we had laughing, shoe shopping, eating, deep-soul talking, all of things which can bring Joy for the moment and stays in our hearts and mind for days to come… enjoy and embrace the love and light shared by Lisa. Denise Joy Thompson Denise: Lisa, you have had joyful and very difficult experiences over your lifetime leading up to your journey from CA to your move across the country. Share with our readers experiences which brought you to who you are today…. Lisa: I had a multitude of traumas from childhood through adulthood; I didn’t know who I was and I was very unhappy. After college, I was offered

an opportunity to sing on the road with Columbia Recording artists, “The Spiral Starecase.” Since I had sung in bands since I was 18, and because it was a life-long dream, I left my hometown to go on the road, with my parents blessing. I ended up traveling for a few years, landing in Houston for a while and then ending up in Phoenix, where I lived and performed until I met my first husband. We married in 1988 and moved to San Diego, where I lived for almost 30 years. I was married twice and because they were highly toxic relationships, I was divorced twice. I gave birth to a beautiful daughter in 1994 and had one very challenging 15 year relationship. I’ve been a pro vocalist for 40 years and had an amazing band in San Diego for many years. In 2007, I lost my home in San Diego to wildfire and then, 2 months later, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

All of 2008 was devoted to healing and rebuilding. Approximately 6 years ago, my daughter and I left that 15 year relationship and newly built custom home; she learned to be more independent and I went in search of my true life purpose. I didn’t have much money and it was a scary thing to do, but I knew if I stayed in that toxic relationship, I would end up even more sick or perhaps, dead. The next 6 years would include many different jobs to make ends meet and many moves; bold decisions like hiring a coach and building a new business. I wasn’t sure where life was taking me but I kept listening to my “gut” and moving forward. Denise: Oftentimes we, I, don’t listen, accept the “Messages”. You began hearing and seeing your signs and messages more clearly, and you accepted you were to move across the country. Explain how this experience was for you? Lisa: I had been coaching for several years and was at the end of year-long coaching clients and group programs; I felt great unrest in what I was doing and so, promoted to get more clients. When no one would respond (and after several months of doing everything I could think of), I hired more coaches. I bought more programs. I desperately went in search of someone to rescue me or to find the magic pill to open up my business. I hit rock bottom financially. NOTHING MOVED. NO NEW CLIENTS SIGNED UP! I threw my hands up in surrender and closed my business. I had never given up but considered it. Meanwhile, I got an intuitive “hit” or idea that I was to go back east to be with my mom for a while but I had just seen her. She was 87 and seemed to be in good health. I followed every synchronicity that came my way, even if it was unknown, unpopular or made no sense and at some point, I made a decision. I decided to put all of my things in storage and drive back east to live with my mom for however long I was supposed to. While driving cross-country, I got my sister’s call, telling me my mother was just diagnosed with stage 4 terminal breast cancer. We were both in shock. The Universe knew and now we did too. I was beyond grateful I had listened to my inner guidance.

Denise: What did you gain from being with your mother for the last months of her life? Lisa: The time I spent taking care of my mother (24/7), feeding and bathing her, talking and reminiscing with her, dressing the cancerous tumors all over the outside of her body, was a miraculous gift. Although hard, I had time to just BE with her. We talked about her childhood and looked at pictures. We watched movies and sang old songs together. We talked about death. I made peace with why I was angry with her. I felt we “completed” our time together. It was precious. The most difficult times were caring for her as her cancer progressed; watching her get more sick, not sleeping in case she’d need me at night or fall out of bed, listening to people who said she’d be around longer than I knew she would dealing with family members who were in denial about her coming death, dealing with the stress of caring for her and knowing I would have to watch her die, making funeral arrangements and monitoring and giving her medications from hospice. Then there was the intense last week while her body was in the process of shutting down.

G LO B A L V O I C E MAG A Z I N E

The most joyous part of the entire experience was getting to know how beautiful, graceful and strong my mother truly was, as well as the healing and evolution of my relationship with my sister and knowing my mother was going to finally be with my father. The other joyous thing was that “miracle space” that opened wide during one of the most difficult times of my life. I wrote my book while my mother was dying. I had a TV show fall in my lap during the same time. Denise: When we listen to our heart, our gut and yes, our head, we see a situation more clearly. In this specific journey over the last 18 months, your journey led you to reconnect with someone very special. This person has supported you immensely and through this reconnection, you have shared even more of yourself, your gifts and talents with the world. Discuss how reconnecting with a like-minded Soul, has impacted your life. Lisa: The Universe had been conspiring all along, I just didn’t know how much. Dr. Joe Vitale and I met when I interviewed him for a summit I produced in early 2017. We had a very deep and immediate energetic connection; we also experienced huge “shifts” during our time together. We both left the interview (at present, our Transform your Money Story interview has gotten over 92

thousand hits on You Tube) knowing something important had happened, but not sure exactly what. We started following each other (you can read about it in the foreword to my book) and through a series of crazy synchronicities, we ended up having dinner together almost one year later. That meeting has changed my life in ways I can’t even speak into right now. When we physically met for the first time, we had no idea why we both felt led to meet. As a matter of fact, at dinner Joe said, “I’m not even sure why we’re doing this.” But over time and through Divine orchestration, it became clear he was a very important part of my life and journey, and is now my best friend and soulful partner. He mentored and guided me in writing my book, which was a dream come true. He supported me every day through my mother’s illness and death. We talked about ideas and projects we wanted to create together, a major reason for me relocating to Texas. He supported me through my first live event. And there’s more on the way, which I’ll share with you at a later time. All I can say is that our coming together opened up my “miracle

space” that I write about in my book and because of that, my life has become indescribable and powerfully on track toward my bigger life mission. I am deeply grateful for him saying yes to what the Universe was calling him to. Denise: How the book was born; the birthing process? (I do recommend everyone have the Kindle or print version of Lisa’s book). Lisa: As I explained above, Joe was the catalyst for me creating this book. Whatever magic happened during our dinner, it sparked magic within me. It opened me up creatively to something that had wanted to be birthed a long time ago. It was time. During our meeting, we talked about what the book would be about and both came up with ideas. When I got to my mother’s home, it was obvious that my bold journey into the unknown and how I got clear on each step WAS my book. What was also clear was that I had to go through the previous year, having those difficult experiences that led to my success, or miracle space, so I could tell the world how they could do it too.

Every morning while caring for my mother and even after her death, I would sit down with a cup of coffee and write on my computer in silence, for hours. I would check in with Joe and somehow, I stayed on track. Much of what came through me was channeled. When I read portions of the book, it’s my story but I’m not sure how it all came through my fingers. For the first time, it all made sense, it was aligned and just flowed. Denise: Your first event “Own The Stage” was a hit!! I am blessed my schedule allowed me to attend!! I am waiting for the next one. Creating and hosting an event has many moving parts and is not for the faint of heart. Discuss the process you went through to make “Own The Stage” happen.

Lisa: I had always seen or had a vision of doing live speaking events but was afraid and didn’t know how to begin. I had spoken at a few smaller, private events. I had been a professional vocalist for 40 years but was terrified of showing up on a stage, by myself, with everyone looking at me. I went to events for speaking but didn’t feel clear on my message. I dragged my feet around doing it and it just never seemed to happen. And then one day Joe said to me, “Well, you want to do a live event. You’re a professional singer. You could help people overcome their fear of being on stage.” At first I thought it was a good idea; then not so much. I continued to drag my feet, but Joe saw and believed in me.

“” He was the wind beneath my wings. Once in a while he’d say, “You need to pick a date for the event.” He said that many times until one day, I decided it was time to move on it. And even though I was still afraid, it was a challenge I was ready to take on. Once I committed to it, I pulled the entire thing together with Joe’s support and it took flight. Actually, the event was done to create a program, but it went so smoothly and we got such great feedback, that we’re going to do it again sometime! What a feeling of achievement and fulfillment. I believe it’s critical for anyone who wants to put on their first event, to have a mentor or someone who unconditionally sees and believes in them. Denise: One of the changes you are having, and I am following, is traveling with several thought leaders most of our readers will recognize. I do believe when we, as you have, embrace our purpose and passion and do the work, we begin to be with people of energy, spirit and soul. Share a bit about your most recent trip. Lisa: I had the honor and joy of accompanying Joe on a recent trip to Bangkok, Thailand, where he was invited to speak at a large event. It was a dream come true. While there, I was blessed to hang out with the great Jack Canfield, who is filled with joyful stories, genuine laughter, loving smiles and hugs. I had the opportunity to meet the legendary Mike Tyson and the gorgeous Natalie Glebova, Miss Thailand 2005. I had the pleasure of meeting Andres Pira, author of the yet-to-bereleased “From Homeless to Billionaire” (a book co-authored with Joe), who put on the event as well as other fascinating people. I must say I loved the food and people of Thailand so much; so gracious and kind. I had the opportunity to network with everyone, getting to know them better, sharing my book and inviting them as guests on my Mindset Reset TV show. What a gift!

Denise: Many of us are packing our bags to go with you on your next trip!! What is next for you? Lisa: Well, I’m honestly still in transition. There are many things in the works that I’m not able to share just yet. There are amazing things “in the works” for my Mindset Reset TV Show and my co-host, Robert Clancy and I. As well, I’m in the midst of creating a companion workbook for “Your Turning Point,” as well as the audio version. I’m writing a few other books, several of which I’m co-authoring with Joe. Joe and I have plans to do an album or two together. I’m creating a program from my live event. There will be other live events in the future. I may start minimally coaching again because people are asking. I’m very much focused on speaking gigs this year on. So, the world is my oyster and the possibilities, endless. I’d love to update you later this year!

Denise: Lisa, you are very dear to my heart and spirit. What words from your heart, words of motivation and inspiration, would you like to share? Lisa: What I’d love to share with your readers about their own journey is this: whatever you want, whatever you feel called to, even if it feels bigger than you’re equipped to and even if you’re afraid to take the leap; whatever makes your heart sing, whatever drives your passion, is attainable through conscious choice, a strong commitment, taking action and doing “the work” (learning new skills and doing whatever it takes to being the process of healing your inner wounds), getting the coaching, mentoring or support you need, letting nothing stand in your way and never giving up. You must understand it’s an evolution. You can’t possibly become the best version of yourself overnight. It’s a process that’s life-long but you must be devoted to it. You must find your authentic self and voice and then, be willing to show up big in the world. And you must know this….life is always happening FOR you, not TO you. The Universe loves you SO BIG and is always speaking to you, guiding you if only you will listen to that small voice. Challenges are created to refine, not define you. You are a unique strand of the Divine and your “tribe” is just waiting for you. They need to hear what you have to say. Stay the course and pick up my book, which will tell you how YOU can get to your “miracle space” too. Oh, and don’t forget, this is ALL a miracle. Be grateful.

How would we use past experiences to make a superior life for ourselves? This is an extremely key inquiry to consider if we wish to execute changes in our lives.

ARTICLE TITLE

If we need better outcomes in our lives in comparison to what we’re getting, we must attempt different methodologies. The things we did yesterday have conveyed us to the existence we have today. If we need something else, we must accomplish something else today to make an alternate life tomorrow. There’s no other method to succeed. Negative emotions and experiences have always been with us. They may be difficult and may cause lasting pain in our bodies and souls. When we hang on to that pain, we can’t proceed onward to something progressively more positive. However, letting go of the past can be very hard. We tend to hang on to worries about the future, or, may repeatedly replay the mistakes of the past in our mind. A desperate effort to hold on to negative familiar memories limits our ability to find joy and happiness right now. A perturbed past that is not dealt with causes an apprehensive future. Life changes around us continually. So, it doesn’t make any logical sense to try to keep things as they were. Nothing stays the same. We set ourselves up for failure if we stay rooted in the past. When we acknowledge that refusing to change and let go of the past is counterproductive, then we can go forward into a better life. New possibilities appear for a positive life. So how can we let go of the past? You need nothing but that which you already have.

Try asking yourself the following questions: • • • •

What was the deal? What proof am I depending on to interpret the situation? What suppositions am I making? Is there another similarly trustworthy clarification of what happened? • How might somebody else who likes me decode this circumstance? • What’s a superior, more advantageous approach to decipher this?

3. Account for the New. A standout amongst other approaches to discharge the past is to account for what’s to come. Plan for your new future by asking:

Dreams don’t work unless you do. Here’s what to do: 1. Teach Yourself to Live in the Present. There’s no better method to discharge the past than to decline to harp on it. What’s more, the most ideal approach to avoid choosing not to move on is to keep your focus immovably centered around the present. When you wind up contemplating the past, make the accompanying inquiry: “Where am I at the present time?” This will take your consideration back to the present minute. The main reason your past is still bothering you is because you keep it alive in your psyche by remembering it. You are stuck in the past. If you stay in the present moment, there’s no room left in it for the past. 2. Transform the Past. When you don’t care for something about your past, transform it. At the present time you might think: “However it previously occurred, there’s nothing that I can do to transform it.” Although the facts demonstrate that you can’t change what occurred before, you can change how you decipher the past.

• What sort of future do I need? • What does this future need require so it can come into my life? The future that you need is coming. Prepare for it by letting go of every one of those things from your past that are not in accordance with your future vision. Also, utilize the time and vitality that you were dedicating to choosing not to move on and do what should be done to get ready for your vision of things to come. 4. Use Failure to Go Forward. John C. Maxwell, a well-known business author and speaker, gives some interesting advice in his book, “Failing Forward: Transforming Mistakes into Success”. He coins the phrase “failing forward”. Past errors may weigh heavily in our subconscious. Rather than giving them power over us, let’s use the lessons learned from the past failures to our advantage. This is using failure to go forward, not backward. Mr. Maxwell suggests the following: • Assume liability for your difficulties; however, don’t think about disappointment literally. • View disappointment as transitory. • Have practical desires. A great deal of the time we set our desires so high, we’re essentially setting ourselves up to fall flat. Ensure that the objectives that you set for yourself are sensible. • Fluctuate your methodology. When you fail you’ve gotten the hang of something about what doesn’t work. Presently, take a stab at something different. • Learn from your errors and proceed onward.

I have to do so as to have the capacity to relinquish this?” As an example, possibly you need to stand up to somebody who’s harmed you, or perhaps you must ask pardoning from somebody whom you’ve hurt here and there.

LEARN TO LE T IT GO

5. What Action to Take to Release the Past. There are some simple questions to ask yourself about a situation you want to release from your psyche:

On the off chance that there’s something from your past that you can’t relinquish, ask yourself what you need to do to discharge it. At that point, do it. Dreams do not become a reality unless people act in ways that make them a reality. You always have a choice to commit, to try your best and to stay focused on your goals. Obstacles will show up; CHOOSE to stay committed. Believe in Yourself. Carry on with your best life by discharging the phantoms of the past with the 5 strategies outlined above. You’ll be a lot more joyful in the present.

• Would I be able to relinquish this? • Would I let go of this? • Provided that this is true, when? When you make the inquiry, “Might I be able to relinquish this?”, Occasionally the appropriate response will be “no”. If so, ask yourself: “What do

VA L E N T I N E ’ S , GALENTINE AND “MALENTINE”

Thank you to Leslie Knope, the main character in the sitcom Parks and Recreation, who first invented Galentine’s Day almost a decade ago. Galentine’s Day is celebrated on February 13, the before Valentine’s Day. In the show this was a chance for the female characters in the show to get together and celebrate. What a great idea, an outstanding opportunity to ceremoniously celebrating your BFFs!! Ladies deserve to celebrate the love of friendship of each other!! In Knope’s own words, “Oh it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.” Quotes for Galentines’ Day by “Leslie Knope”: “You know my code: hoes before bros. Uteruses before duderuses…Ovaries before brovaries.” Gals, it is time to start planning your Galentine’s Day adventures!! Of course, one of the most celebrated observances around the world in February is Valentine’s Day!! Love is a universal language and the celebration of love and romance is universal too!! Why “Valentine’s Day” and why February 14? Though many might think this is mainly a US holiday, the roots of Valentine Day is in Rome and the Catholic Church!! Emperor Claudius II executed two men, both named Valentine, on Feb. 14 of different years in the 3rd century A.D. Their martyrdom was honored by the Catholic Church with the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day. There is a mystery though regarding which Valentine was meant to be honored.

G LO B A L V O I C E MAG A Z I N E

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, there were at least three early Christian saints by that name. One was a priest in Rome, one a bishop in Terni, and a third St. Valentine, of almost nothing is known except that he met his end in Africa. Rather astonishingly, all three Valentines were said to have been martyred on Feb. 14. Most scholars believe the St. Valentine of the holiday was a priest who attracted the disfavor of Roman emperor Claudius II around 270. At this stage, the factual ends and the mythic begins. According to one legend, Claudius II had prohibited marriage for young men, claiming that bachelors made better soldiers. Valentine continued to secretly perform marriage ceremonies but was eventually apprehended by the Romans and put to death. Another legend has it that Valentine, imprisoned by Claudius, fell in love with the daughter of his jailer. Before he was executed, he allegedly sent her a letter signed “from your Valentine.” Perhaps the most plausible story surrounding St. Valentine is one not focused on Eros (passionate love) but on agape (Christian love): he was martyred for refusing to renounce his religion. It does not seem to matter why we have Valentine’s Day…people celebrate love!! Now the question is….. What about Malentine’s Day? What about the men… do they need a day to celebrate their bros, their buds, the guys, the bromance? Or are men already taking time for themselves and their BFFs? Are the “men only” hunting, fishing, playing sports, drinking enough for them? Do men need a Day? What are your thoughts? HOW TO PROSPER IN LO V E A N D R E L AT I O N S H I P S An interview on life, love, and soul mates

Angelika Christie Q: Do you believe that relationships are the most difficult things in life to deal with? Of course this can only be so for unsatisfying, difficult, challenging and even abusive relationships, right? A: Not really. All relationships require much attentiveness, because relationships change; some in minor and others in not so minor ways. Is it not true that a wrong- doing of someone you trusted created the wounding you still carry inside of you? I believe that every one of us needs to bury a ‘sword’ and forgive old hurts and make peace with long standing “enemies.” Q: Since almost every aspect of life actually is a relationship, knowing how to let go of the burden you are carrying with you and learn how to prosper more in your relationships would impact your life immensely. Yes?

A: There is much to say about Soul Mates; I have a whole workshop dedicated to this interesting and controversial theme that you can request from me. But I believe that many of our relationships are karmic, at least to a point. When we speak about karmic relationships we have to accept that our Soul chooses many different situations and settings for specific reasons on earth. In other words, we need at least allow the possibility of multiple lifetimes. I also believe that everything that happens to any of us is through an agreement of sorts. Yet not everything we experience during our lifetime is for our own purpose. Your Soul may have agreed to suffer or enjoy situations. In other words, play the role of the perpetrator or victim for the benefit of others because of a karmic relationship. Those are soulagreements.

A: The path to Happiness in your relationship is less Q: Doesn’t this suggest that you are never a victim about learning more; it is the willingness to wake up in your relationships? to yourself and what you really want in your relationship. It comes down to awareness and choice. A: We create and co- create each moment. This is how it manifests: Q: I know that many want to find out more about Karmic relationships. This is an immutable law of the universe. It cannot be bent or disregarded; It favors nobody and punishes nobody either. I know it bothers me too that some seem to get away with murder (so to speak) and others do not. This is only an illusion that fits into our current state of awareness. But I can say with clarity that stems from my 30 + years of professional expertise and personal experience that we come into each lifetime with a purpose that attracts us to and attracts to us the relationships we have agreed to encounter in our lifetime. Whatever you think, feel, say and do manifests in a certain pattern. Those patterns are living entities that send out signals. It is those calling signals that attract to us the situations and people who resonate with our frequency patterns that are powerful without being visible. Q: Are thoughts and feelings that powerful? A: Yes they are and you may know this; many of us know it and yet few of us consciously use that knowledge.

A: You may be in a relationship right now that you do not understand and wonder why, or why you seem to attracted the same type of person that you experienced such grief with in the past?

Q: Did you ever notice that whatever irritates you in others you may need to look at and examine in yourself?

Think about a relationship you have right now… just one, the first that comes to mind. Ask yourself this: “Why am I in this relationship?” Take 3-5 Minutes to write down the reasons why you are in a relationship with the person that came to mind first. ---------------Was this exercise revealing? Often we want something in particular from a relationship. It could be financial security? Maybe you look for a sisterly or brotherly relationship? Or do you want a buddy for sports, for entertainment, for sex, for travel, to study and share knowledge with?

Maybe you’re looking for a partner to create a family with? Or a partner that can build a business empire that up-levels your social standing? And some of us are restless and have many relationships while others hold on to the one they want to grow old with. We are tribe people by ancient nature, and need relations to learn, grow and thrive. So relationships should be easy since they are deeply rooted in our evolutionary history. Yet relationships have become less primal in our modern time and therefore we are more confused about their meaning than our ancestors were.

Q: Would you agree that we all have open and hidden agendas in our relationships? A: Sometimes we feel lucky and at other times we feel like we deserve better, and occasionally we feel punished and do not know how to stay and make it better--- or let go and leave a relationship without feeling sorrow and guilt. When a relationship ends we often question how this could have happened? We are quick to judge and quick to blame and even quicker to establish our right to be upset, disappointed, feel unjustly penalized, and betrayed! It can be quite an emotional turmoil and roller-coaster of endless internal dialogues. Here is what this really means: your expectations have not been fulfilled and you are waiting for something to change. But what are you waiting for? You want a better relationship?? Do you really think that the responsibility lies with the other person to fulfill you? Nope…it is a false responsibility that especially we women put onto our men because most of us have been burdened with providing happiness to almost everybody around us. We were told that in doing so we were more lovable, or more deserving of love. So we want some of that happiness back from our mate. I am not saying that you should go into a relationship without any expectations, yet…If you could let go of most expectations and learn more about yourself; 40

SECURITY, SOCIAL MEDIA AND THE INTERNET By Ed Becher

G LO B A L V O I C E MAG A Z I N E

Happy New Year everyone. As we roll into the New Year, we as always need to look at our personal security and that of our family and business. With all that in mind, and since we are talking about relationships and how they relate to our business and personal life, let’s talk about some key things to keep in mind as we go into 2019. Social media should always be one of our highest safety and security concerns. With Facebook alone there are an estimated 2.27 Billion users with over 1.15 Billion users daily. How does this fit into your social media security plans? How about the apps that provide data to Facebook even if you do not have an account? Oh you didn’t know that? Well now you do. Many apps share data with others to build their networks and increase both users and paying clients. It is now time that we should all be looking at who is on our Facebook friends list. How many of these “friends” do you actually interact with? How many have died? Yes it’s a fact of life, people pass away but their Facebook account lives on forever. Is that one client on your list still a client or has that relationship ended. So, let’s do a yearly review and clean up that ‘friends’ list. This applies to not only your Facebook accounts but LinkedIn, Twitter, and any and all social media accounts you use. Even those you use infrequently. Another area of concern is your passwords. When was the last time you changed the passwords for your social media accounts? These passwords should be changed at a minimum of yearly, and they should not be the same for all your accounts. I know having the same password is easy, but its easy for the hackers as well. Trust me they are good and getting better every day. There are software products out there that allow to generate new and different passwords, keeping them safe for you so you don’t have to remember them all. While we are talking about passwords let us not forget the Wi-Fi for your home or place of business. How many people know the passwords to these Wi-Fi connections? I am not just talking about family, and clients -- how about people who just visited and asked for it and were given the password. I know I am not going to make any friends with this statement, but business Wi-Fi passwords should be changed monthly. Yes, I said monthly.

You would be surprised how many people will sit in your parking lots and make use of your free Wi-Fi that they got the password to 8 months ago. How many of you have ever looked at Google Street View? How much of your home does it show? I have shown this to clients while doing threat assessments and they are surprised by how much information is available about their home. Yes, it can be scary how much information about you, your family and business is out there on the Internet. Not only do we have a bad habit of putting things out there, but what about your family members? What information are they providing to their ‘friends’? Who is a contact on their list of ‘friends’ who we may not want to have a “relationship” with? How many of you look at your children’s friends list on social media? People say we should not spy on our children, but if we look at the number of children who have gone missing and we see that it is related to Facebook, Fortnight, or other social media we should be concerned. There are so many social media dating sites out there that as a Social Media Intelligence Analysis it gets hard for me to keep up. Many of us have found our better halves thanks to social media. And some of us found just the opposite.

D E L E T E YO U R ACCOUNT There are social meeting sites for every desire one can think of and even some we could not even imagine. The top three Online dating sites are Match, PlentyofFish, and Zoosk. One thing to remember is unless you delete your account it stays out there.

Now how do these stalkers gather your information? Read the article again and take a wild guess. Facebook, eHarmony, PlentyofFish, Match, you can add your own site in here and you will have a good idea where they find their victims.

I know folks who five or six years after they stopped visiting these sites have gotten emails about connections. Or old connections make an attempt to reconnect. Could be a good thing or bad.

How many business cards with your email address have you given out in the last year? While many of those cards will have positive outcomes, the possibility of it turning into a bad situation can happen.

One thing I was asked about discussing when we are talking about relationships is stalkers. Stalker is defined as: a person who harasses or persecutes someone with unwanted and obsessive attention. Since the onset of social media, we have seen a rise in stalking cases.

While I am talking about business cards, how much information are you putting on that card? Name, email address, contact phone number, maybe company website, and maybe your certifications. But does it need your Facebook contact?

During a 12-month period, an estimated 14 in every 1,000 persons age 18 or older were the victims of stalking.
