The Spirit Of Christmas Cheer Fund “I have had 3 surgeries this year and the house I was living in was sold by the landlord, adding more costs to us. After paying all the bills there is no money left for Christmas. I only want my son to be able to have a present.” Letter writer asks for help

“God bless the Cheer Fund,” one donor wrote in a note that came along with their donation. “You bring happiness to so many needy people.” Letter writer is happy to give

Each year since 1927 we have received thousands of letters similar to this ones above, which continue to reinforce the importance and true meaning of the Christmas Cheer Fund. Letters from children, letters from adults and letters received anonymously on the behalf of others, all asking for a little additional support during the holiday season. Each year since 1927 we have continued to call upon the support of people like you so that we may help others less fortunate than ourselves. Thanks to your support, more than 1,500 families in North Iowa received food certificates, Christmas gifts, clothing or checks of varying amounts each season. Plus, donations were made to such organizations as: Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank, Mason City; Franklin

County Pantry, Hampton; Britt Area Food Bank, Britt; God’s Pantry, Garner; Mitchell County Food Bank, Osage; Neighborhood Food Bank, Forest City; Share Shop, Northwood; Mason City Ministerial Association, Mason City; Francis Lauer Youth Services, Inc., Mason City; Community Kitchen, Mason City, Northern Lights Homeless Shelter for Men & Women; Caring Pregnancy Center, Mason City and the Salvation Army. This year our goal for the 2008 Cheer Fund is $100,000. “It’s sad, but there is a real need out there. These people are not asking for elaborate gifts. They just want a little extra to buy food and other necessities,” said Globe-Gazette Publisher Howard Query. “The Cheer Fund is one way that people can spread holiday joy around.”
