Machey graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of John Machey, of Clear Lake, and Kathleen Koranda, Hanlontown. He is a 2004 graduate of Clear Lake High School. Army Capt. Danny R. Frieden was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The medal is awarded to soldiers who have served in any capacity in an area authorized by the Secretary of the Army. The recipients must have distinguished themselves by meritorious service or achievement while acting on behalf of the Army. Frieden is the son of Ernest and Dana Frieden, of Belmond. He is a 1989 graduate of West Bend High School and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona, Tucson in 2000.
