Rotary ‘Students of the Month’ MASON CITY — The Mason City Noon Rotary Club named Matthew Henderson, Shea Brunsvold, Helen Wies, and Michael Dunlay, Students of the Month for April. Matthew Henderson, a senior at Mason City High School, is the son of Scott and Patty Henderson. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Math Club, and a varsity letter winner in swimming Henderson and an alternate at the state swim meet. His awards and honors include: Principal’s List, Central Iowa Metropolitan League All-Academic recognition in swimming and an academic letter. Henderson’s community activities include being a member of the Mason City Swim Club, a referee for the North Iowa Soccer Club, various National Honor Society service projects, and volunteer soccer refereeing at the Summer Iowa Games. He plans to attend the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Rapid City, S.D., to pursue a degree in civil engineering. Shea Brunsvold, a senior at Mason City High School, is the daughter of Kevin and Julie Brunsvold. She is a member of the National Honor Society, SymBrunsvold phonic Band, and the Girl’s Swim Team. She is a four-year varsity swimming letter winner and state qualifier.
Her awards and honors include: Principal’s List, Honor Roll, All-State French Horn musician, earned All American status at the state swim meet, All State Swim Team, Academic All-state, regional champion in the 500 freestyle, 2008 homecoming queen, Student of the Month, and band president. Brunsvold’s community activities include being a swimming instructor and lifeguard, being an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church, where she serves in the brass choir and on the Servant Cabinet Committee. She was a youth representative at the ELCA Synold Assembly, Hurricane Katrina volunteer, and has served in many food banks including Mason City, Chicago, Minneapolis and San Antonio. Brunsvold plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa, to major in science education. She is the recipient of an athletic scholarship to swim for the Panthers. Mason City High School’s Concert Madrigal Concert, was recognized in two of the ten centers, receiving the Iowa High School Music Association “Outstanding Performance Award.” Only 0.9 of 1 percent of all festival entries in the state receive this award.

Nicole is the daughter of Ken and Linda Brandau of Rudd and the granddaughter of Dale and Kathryn Shoger of Osage and Joan Brandau of Osage. Adam is the son of Tom and Deb Clark of Osage and the grandson of Betty Clark of Osage and Donna Berdelson of Osage. Kimberly Brandau served as maid of honor to the bride. The bride’s other attendants were Melanie Onken, Megan Rosendahl, Erin Gerdman and Katie Watzke. Personal attendants were Kelli Gilbert and Shannon Bieber. Best man for the groom was Dustin Clark.
