The Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health urges you to do all you can to prevent the spread of germs: ➠ Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough – or cough into your sleeve. ➠ Put the tissue in the trash — then wash your hands. ➠ Wash your hands often with warm soapy water for at least 20 seconds — that’s about how long it takes to sing the Happy Birthday song twice. ➠ Avoid contact with sick people and stay home when you’re sick. ➠ Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose. ➠ Get plenty of sleep.

Michael Fallis earns rank of Eagle Scout MASON CITY — Michael Fallis, son of John and Nancy Fallis, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Feb. 10. The Eagle Scout rank, the highest advancement rank in scouting, is attained by only about 5 percent of all Boy Scouts. Michael joined Mason City Troop 401 in February 2002. He made First Class rank within his first year of Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Life Scout in May 2004. While on his trail to Eagle, Michael was an active member of Troop 401. His duties within Troop 401 included being the assistant platoon leader on multiple occasions and the troop quartermaster. In addition to the regular troop activities and functions, Michael also attended and participated in the following scouting activities: Okpik High Adventure Cold Winter Camping Program, located in Ely, Minn., in January 2004, the National Boy Scout Jamboree held in Washington, D.C., in July 2005, and the Eagle Claw National Youth Leader Training Conference held at the Bighorn National Forest, Wyoming, in August 2006. He became certified in scuba diving and attended Florida
Sea Base High Adventure Camp, located in the Florida Keys in June 2007. Michael’s Eagle Scout project was designing and building four TV/DVD/Nintendo stands that will be incorporated in the new renovation of the Youth for Christ building. This will benefit the Youth for Christ organization by providing permanently mounted positions of their gaming equipment, thus saving time for the YFC staff and allowing more middle school and high school students the opportunity to simultaneously use the equipment.
