A benefit for Shirley Kohler will be held at the Catholic Center of Nora Springs on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009. Shirley was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer last February. Chemo treatments have greatly impacted her ability to work as needed in her hair styling business which she operates out of her home in Nora Springs. Shirley also worked at the Nora Springs Care Center up until her illness. With her strong work ethic, Shirley continues to work in her salon on days she feels up to it. Though Shirley and her husband Jay voiced they would try to work things out on their own, family and friends have come together to organize this event. Shirley’s benefit is being sponsored by Thrivent Financial. A spaghetti dinner will be served from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., charged for as a free will offering. The meal is being provided by the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs Kiwanis, Nora Springs Insurance, and KohlerLentz Construction. A silent auction packed with many unique items and a large bake sale will take place the duration of
the benefit. A live auction will start at 5:30 called by Dennis Behr. The live auction includes such items as a large, flat screen T.V., Serta queen mattress and box spring, home-made quilts, David Rottinghaus prints, truck load of delivered screened, black dirt, half black angus beef, Brett Favre framed jersey, BluRay player, hand crafted wooden poker table and high chair along with many gift certificates from North Iowa restaurants and businesses just to mention a few. Triple J Construction located on Highway 18 East in Nora springs will donate to the benefit with proceeds from all cans dropped off on their site on Saturdays now through the event. The First State Bank in Nora Springs will accept donations on Shirley’s behalf. All donations, no matter the amount, will be deeply appreciated and used to offset mounting medical expenses for Shirley as she fights this battle. If you wish to inquire how you might help please contact Shirley’s sisters. Pam McKiness 641-3571336, Jamie Bonner, 641424-5397, Julie Walker, 641-749-5575. BIRTHDAY
Love You and Miss You
June 1, 1942 - Oct. 5, 2006 Three long years have passed since you went away. Not a day goes by that you are not talked about, by me, relatives and friends as well. Tears still fall quite often and seems they always will, that’s because we love you and we always will. “Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, ends with a tear.” When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so when you die, you’re the one smiling and everyone around you is crying.
We Miss You Everyday Forever & Ever. Love, Val, Kris, Lori, Peter and Tobie
