Thank you We would sincerely like to thank our family and friends for the gifts, flowers, cards, letters, emails and calls to wish us well on our 40th wedding anniversary. Also, thank you to our children for the dinner in our honor for our special day. We appreciate the thoughtfulness in making our anniversary one to remember. — Phil and Nancy McLaughlin

Because I live one block north of Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, many employees and visitors park on my street. Snow plowing is difficult resulting in an enormous amount of snow at the base of my driveway. Recently, I was stuck twice in my driveway as I was leaving to attend my classes at NIACC. The first time my priest, Wendy, from St. John’s Episcopal Church, freed me. As I prayed, Wendy shoveled. The second time required two young ladies, my neighbor Scott, owner of Jitters coffee bar, another neighbor, and a kind man driving by to rescue me. The young lady who drove a van was actually under my car chipping away at a huge rock of ice as the others shoveled and pushed. In addition to my NIACC learning experiences, I learned that Mason City is blessed with caring neighbors. I know my John and God are smiling down on my six saintly angels. I am truly grateful. And to the angel in the van, your ice scraper is hanging on my back door for you. — Sally Baker Mason City
