Walker, Crosser compete for Iowa Junior Miss CLEAR LAKE — Alysha Walker and Jordan Crosser, of Clear Lake, were among 13 Iowa high school seniors who competed for the title of Iowa Junior Miss 2010, March 13, at the Bridge View Center in Ottumwa. The high school seniors spent the week in Ottumwa meeting with students, business people and rehearsing. They also performed their talents — Walker’s was Taekwondo, and Crosser’s was poetry reading. Walker is the daughter of Douglas and Kendra Walker. Crosser is the daughter of Brian and Stephanie Crosser. The contestants were judged on self-expression, talent, fitness, interview answers and scholastic achievements. As a finalist, Walker received a $250 Michael Sieren making a Difference Scholarship. Crosser was named second-runner-up and received scholarships in the talent and self expression portions of the program.

Fern Midtgaard will celebrate her 85th birthday, April 6. She was born in rural Worth County in 1925 and currently resides with her husband, Arden, at 1327 330th St., Hanlontown, Iowa 50444. Fern and Arden have been married for 64 years, and are the parents of four children: Cindy (Russell) of Britt; Arlyn (Lila), of Hanlontown; Connie (Mark), of Mankato, Minn., and Vicky (Larry), of Cedar Rapids. They are blessed with 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, with three more expected this spring and summer. The family will celebrate Fern’s birthday on Easter Sunday.
