National American Miss Iowa finalists GRINNELL — Two North Iowa youths were chosen as state finalists and will compete in the National American Miss Iowa state pageant, scheduled June 26-27, at the Bucksbaum Fine Arts Center, Grinnell. Maliykai M. Schneider, 12, of Charles City, will compete in the Pre-Teen age division. Sophia Benjegerdes, 16, of rural Mason City, will compete in the “Teen” age division. Schneider is the daughter of Christy Schneider, Charles City, and Benjegerdes is the daughter of Karl and Tina Benjegerdes, of rural Mason City. Schneider’s activities include playing the flute in the band and joining the Charles City Girl’s City Softball League. Benjegerdes is active in volleyball, cheerleading, 4-H, track, youth group, Student Council, and band. She enjoys running, traveling, pottery and cooking. The National American Miss Iowa Pageant winner will receive $1,000 cash, the official crown and banner, trophy, roses, air transportation and sponsor fees paid to compete in the national pageant in California.
