She attended Iowa State Teacher’s College and taught rural school, before serving as a clerk and postmaster in the Meservey post office, for 33 years. Sylvia Quandt and Robert Raecker were married in 1945 and spent 57 years together before his death in 2002. HOUSTON, Texas — Mark D. Bergan, of Houston, Texas, was selected as a 2010 Space Flight Awareness honoree, for his contribution to the international Space Station program. He is the son of Muriel Bergan, of Hanlontown, Iowa, and the late Arden Bergan. Bergan is an employee of the Boeing Company, at the Houston Space Center. The award recognizes Bergan’s support to the International Space Station Program, for development of a highly important piece of hardware, the SGANT Boom, and for his dedication making sure the hardware was delivered to the highest standard of quality, according to a news release. Bergan’s efforts have made it possible to provide the capability of sending data back to earth from the International Space Station if the primary antenna has a failure, the news release stated. The Boeing International Space Station Program and NASA invited Bergan to be a guest at the STS-133/ULF5 Space Flight Awareness event, in Florida. The program, hosted by NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, includes an awards ceremony and special VIP tour of KSC, prior to the STS-133 launch, currently scheduled in November. Bergan was formerly employed by Snyder Construction, Clear Lake, Iowa, and Winnebago Industries, prior to his employment with the Boeing Company. He and his wife, Jodi, have two sons, Jack and Teddy.
