IHSMA OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AWARD There were five contest centers at Fort Dodge: one string/band, two vocal, and two band in which the judge of each center had the prerogative of selecting one outstanding event of the day — either an outstanding solo or ensemble. Mason City students were recognized in all five centers, receiving the Iowa High School Music Association “Outstanding Performance Award,” a designation of effort and accomplishment that far exceeds the demands made by an average high school performance. Only 0.9 of 1 percent of all festival entries in the state receive this award. Those recognized were: Concert Chamber Choir, Craig Bergan — vocal solo, Katie Daugherty, Julia Gales, Brittanie Lucas, Katy Wilson — clarinet quartet, Molly Daugherty —trumpet solo, and Stephanie Faulkner — clarinet solo.
Newman Catholic State Solo/Ensemble MASON CITY —Twenty-two students from the Newman High School music department participated in the Iowa High School Music Association Solo and Ensemble Festival, April 9, at North Butler High School, Greene. Newman had a total of 23 entries, and earned 13 Division I ratings, eight Division II ratings, and two Division III ratings. Senior Sarah Floden also received the Outstanding Performance Award for her flute solo.

demonstrates outstanding achievement in several areas, including scholastics, professionalism, dedication to dental hygiene and leadership potential. Weiner, daughter of Steve and Jill Weiner, rural Nora Springs, attends the dental hygiene program at Iowa Western Community College, Council Bluffs.
