Coe College homecoming court CEDAR RAPIDS — Erinn Hoel, of Mason City, was selected for the 2011 homecoming court at Coe College, Cedar Rapids. Nominated by their fellow senior classmates, five women and five men were chosen to be on the homecoming court.

Hoel, a senior majoring in psychology and gender studies, is a 2008 graduate of Newman Catholic High School, Mason City. She is the daughter of Ann Kurtz.

The homecoming king and queen, Amanda Hanson, of Riverside, Iowa, and Juan Arredondo, of Corcoran, Calif., were announced at Coe College’s coronation ceremony, Sept. 16.

Korbin Drake Casey

The family of Dr. Carroll Bogard would like to congratulate him on being elected National Commander of the (AXPOW) American Ex-Prisoners of War organization, at the national convention, in Dayton, Ohio.

Carroll enlisted in the Air Force in 1942, serving in the 8th AF 466th BG, 785th BS. He was shot down and captured in August, 1944, then held in Stalag Luft VI and Luft IV. He participated in the 87-day march across northern Europe and was liberated by British 7th Army in Germany, at the end of the war.

He joined AXPOW in 1986 and became an active member serving various offices, working for veterans benefits, etc. He will serve as National Commander from 2011 to 2012, ending his term at the age of a young 90.

Carroll and his wife, Barbara, live in Mason City.

They have three children: Jeff Bogard and wife, Susie, of Golden, Colo.; Liz Bogard and Jim Ivonavitch, of Mason City, and Barb Weiner and husband, Dick, of Nora Springs. They have 11 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren, and are expecting two more in April.

We are very proud of all he has done and we are honored to be your family.

Audrey Merfeld, 90 MARBLE ROCK — Audrey Merfeld will celebrate her 90th birthday Oct. 8. A family celebration was held at her home in Marble Rock during the weekend of Sept.

24. Attending were her four children: Judy (Steve) Smith, Sanibel, Fla.; Alan (Sunny) Merfeld, Harrisburg, Pa; Carolyn (Dean) Athey, Columbus, Neb., and Doug (Tracy) Merfeld, Marble Rock, and five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A community celebration is planned from 1-3 p.m.
